Samsung DVD Rw Drive Issue
I have a hardware compatability issue with a Samsung DVD/RW drive. Windows 7 x64 see it as only a CDrom, so of course none of my DVD burning software will work on it. the Drive mode is a TSSTcorp-CDDVDW SH-SH182m SsmSung is the maker. I've already updated the firmware to the latest. and my Bios sees it, and I can boot from it there. I tried to update driver from the MS servers, but it keeps see it as a CDrom. Help?

Samsung DVD/CD Burner Burning Failed
I had a fairly new Samsung DVD/CD burner which would read under Windows 7 but burning failed in all apps after I upgraded from Vista. No new firmware. I decided to replace it with newer drive but it did the same thing.  Since the DVD was the only thing attached to a Marvell SATA RAID controller I went searching for new drivers for the SATA controller. Sure enough they just published one and now everything is working. Of course I have a perfectly working drive sitting on the shelf but at least I can burn.

Asus DVD Or Samsung CD Driver Errors
I use an Intel D845 main board with an Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz and 2 Gigs of RAM for testing. If I remember correctly I and run XP PRO then Vista Business 32 with no problems. Now I have Windows 7 beta and I cannot use my Asus DVD or Samsung CD, they show in hardware manager with driver errors but if I try to update my drivers Win 7 tells me I have the latest drives installed. Okay so now I want to try Windows RC, I boot from DVD no problem except it cannot find any hard drive to install to. I think the problem is cause by the fact that the hard drive is SATA and the DVD/CD is IDE. Is there a work around for this?

Samsung External DVD Won't Work
I did install win7 from a USB-stick following instructions on a forum, formatting this and making it bootable with all tools from the Win-7 DVD and it worked great. But now I did get me an external DVD burner (Samsung SE S084) and would love to use it. If I plug it into my old XP notebook, it works without installing any drivers. So does it when I boot the Linux partition on my netbook, I can boot from it too, But it just won't show in the explorer when I plug it in the netbook and boot Win7. It is shown in the device manager, it has CD.sys as driver and is reported as working fine (I don't really agree on that;-) Driver update is grayed out. So, what can I do, besides switching to Ubuntu, to start using my DVD?

Samsung F1 Drive Install Issue
Existing Setup Abit IN9 32-Max, 2gig OCZ, E6300, WD 250g, Windows 7 v7264 x32 NO issues, everything runs fine. Removed WD 250g and switched to Samsung F1 Spinpoint 750g drive (which is essentially my old gamming system running on xp). Cannot install Windows 7, regardless of version, locks halfway through install. Hard reset and Drive is no longer detected. I experienced this same issue back when I had the gaming system and the only way to fix it was to disable Command Qeueing ( which was recommended by users with same issue ). The problem seems to be with the nvidia chipset ( in this case 6) not playing nice with some Samsung drives. However, I was able to install XP and of course disable this option. PC then ran fine for a year, no lockups. Basically same system, but will not allow Windows 7 to install. Ive tried different sata ports, different partitions, different Windows 7 versions, different bios settings... Always locks halfway through.

Hard Drive Speed - Samsung Spinpoint
I have just put together a new PC and have 2 Samsung Spinpoint (sata300) hard disks installed. I have had a look at Windows 7 performance utility and although all the other components rate very well, the disk data transfer rate is the same as my previous PC. Very disappointing to say the least. I have an Asus P7P55 motherboard with 4Go RAM. Am I to believe this low rating (5.9) or is it not very reliable? If it is, do I need to tweak something?

DVD RW Drive Does Not Read / Write DVD's
my DVD rom is not able to read / write a DVD but can read a CD though. i saw many posts on the internet and i wasnot able to get this thing working. i followed the following steps:- 1. i tried deleting the upper and the lower filters. 2. i also flashed my mother boards bios to the current one .. performed a cumilative flash.. with all the bios versions flashed one by one as per the release date. 3. i also enabled my AHCI driver on my OS 4. i also uninstalled Nero8 as someone on a Forum had posted nero kinda blocks access to the DVD drive. for some particular scenarios. ( honestly did not belive that but still i performed the step ) 5. also tried to test my DVD drive on various microsoft OS: XP professional sp 3 , Vista ultimate, windows 7 did not work on anyof them except.. in Vista Ultimate when i uninstalled my drive through device manager and reinstalled my drive the drive would let me read a DVD only once. once i remove my Disc and load anyother disc it would not read it. 6. i tried to rewire my drive by opening my cabinate and used another SATA port. still got no response. Searching for a latest driver for my Drive but not able to locate it anywhere. if any one of you can direct me to the latest driver for my DVD drive model .

Dvd Maker Does Not Recognize The Dvd Drive In Computer
I have windows 7 release candidate on my old desktop and this newish notebook. Windows DVD maker works fine on the desktop but on this Lenovo 3000 N200 it will not recognize the built in dvd drive. I have checked with Device Manager and the software is up to date and the device is working normally. I can make DVD movies using a free program called DVD Flick. DVD Flick recognizes the DVD burner, so why won't Windows DVD Maker work??

Optiarc DVD RW AD-7173A CD/DVD Drive Driver
I would like to do a custom install from boot as I always have, but I'm getting this message: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." Now I have been able to install by just going the upgrade route from the desktop and am using Windows 7 as I type this, but I really want to do a fresh install booting from the Win 7 disk, but that message stops me in my tracks after the window that asks for location, language, etc. This is a widespread problem as Ive run across many instances looking for an answer, but mostly this seems to happen to the downloaded version and a wrongly burned ISO. This is retail Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade I'm talking about. My PC is about a year old and is a Core2Quad on an Intel board, 500g hdd, 3g ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512. My optical drive is Optiarc DVD RW AD-7173A and that seems to be the snag I guess. What exactly is that message asking for? It seems I should be able to load the right driver from a USB flash and carry on. I loaded a folder onto a flash drive with every driver I could find that remotely was linked to that drive or controller and let Win 7 do a where's Waldo search hoping it'll search it out like a drug dog. Didn't work. What exactly am I looking for??? As it stands now I've got Win7Ultimate32bit installed and running, but I really want to load the 64bit disk and I cant do that with the Upgrade disk unless its done custom at boot.

USB Flash Drive / DVD Drive Problem

The copying/ moving process would stay on for about 5-10 seconds then freezes then I get an error message. That is: H: refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer... I have all the latest drivers. And windows/ nero 9 can't use my dvd drive to burn files. Some info about my system: AMD X4 630 CPU. MSI KA780G (AMD 780G chipset) mobo. I have 2 sata hdds, non raid mode. The DVD drive is IDE. 4gb ram ddr2 ram. windows 7 64 bit.

DVD-RW Drive Functions Like A CD-ROM Drive
I have installed windows 7 RC. It's a clean install not an upgrade. But my DVD burner behaves like a CD-ROM drive it will only read CD disks but not DVD disks. It will NOT burn any cd disks and dvd disks. Its functionality got limited in Win7RC and beta. Some forums suggested me to remove upper and lower filters in the registry. I did that but no use. I have tried 3rd party software such as Nero and roxio, then also it is not working. Another advise that I got is, itunes will alter the dvd behaviour. But I have no itunes installed in my system. To find out whether it is a hardware problem, I installed linux in my laptop (dual boot). In linux the dvd drive is functioning well. That means, we can rule out bios and hardware issues. It worked well when Vista was running. I guess it is a problem with Win 7 RC and Beta version. Am I right ? The device manager is showing that the drive is working properly and there is NO exclamation mark. In many forums it is mentioned that there is no exclusive  driver for optical disks. Windows is supposed to install its own driver for that purpose. Which it did, i.e. "cdrom.sys". My DVD model is  "TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632M ATA Device"

DVD Drive Not Reading DVD's Or CD's
Well first off windows 7 has been great for me, even for gaming purposes. i have only encountered 1 intermittent problem and that is with my dvd drive. i removed my upper and lower limits from registry. and it worked fine. then recently it just went inop. not reading anything, dvd's, cd's, you name it. i downloaded the firmware for the drive but the installer will not install it, says it cannot find the correct directory.which is understandable because the firmware is from 2004. i tried the other fix that you type into command prompt. and that did not work. the computer does recognize the drive. it is a pioneer avp 108 dvd/cd burner drive. any thoughts or suggestions. i am just tempted to buy a new drive due to the age and hassle it has been. But if i do buy a new drive have there been any designed for Win7 use?

Laptop With No DVD Drive
As the title says, my laptop's DVD drive seems to have failed. I'd like to clean install Windows 7 from my portable HDD, but since I can't boot from USB, was womdering what options I might have. Right now, I'm wondering if I can install to a partition from within my Vista partition. Is that possible? It seems to me that when I previously installed Vista, that the reboots would be a factor.
