Run 32 Bit Programs In Virtual PC On Win7 X64
I'm running Win7 Ultimate x64 and I have a legacy 32 bit app I need to run (AutoDesk Raster Design 2008). This app will not install under Win7 x64 directly. Can I install it using Virtual PC Xp mode?

All Programs Is Blank On Win7 X64 (upgrade From Vista Premium X64)
I installed Windows 7 Beta x64 as an in-place upgrade over Vista x64 Premium Service Pack 1. There's one minor hiccup in the UI post-upgrade: when I go to the Start Menu and click on "All Programs", nothing at all is displayed. Ironically, this hasn't been a major impediment for me because of how I work. I usually get to what I need through QuickLaunch icons (which came through fine), application launch via hotkeys, finding items in Recent Items, or using the Control Panel. All of those work fine. If I right-click on All Programs, I can successfully open my personal start menu folder nested under my AppData, or the All Users menu folder under the root ProgramData folder. I just don't get a vertical list of items as expected. Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing this is probably due to a glitch during the migration process, and since the menu appears very similar to Vista's this may be something that happens there as well. EDIT: This isn't the problem documented in MSKB 939041 or 932404. Actual paths to the folders containing the items are: C:Users<name>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms Also note that the menu plainly does "update". I get the <Back displayed after clicking "All Programs".

Run 16-bit Programs From A Command Line
Since DOS 2.0 I have written and collected command line programs. Many do things not possible without command line support. Such as run an Assembler and editor from a .BAT file (I use A86 if you want to search for it) to created and run handy small .COM programs. But none of these 16-bit programs work on my Vista 64-bit. A friend has the same computer I have, but with Vista 32-bit and he verified a few of my .COM programs worked fine. ? Would I be able to install Win 7 32-bit and run them?

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues). But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work. 64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit. I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.

Run Vista Home In A Virtual Window Under Win7
I was runnung vista home 32 bit, and I upgraded to windows 7 professional. I did a clean install of windows 7, 64 bit. May I run, legally, the vista home in a virtual window under the windows 7? I ask because I have installed the vista home using vmware player with the windows 7 as host, but to continue, I must validate the vista home - the program I used for the upgrade.

The Ribbon Interface Will Be In ALL Programs That Run On Win7
It's called the Scenic Ribbon and you can already see it in Paint, Wordpad and Movie Maker. The Ribbon originated in Office 2007 and has been improved even more in Office 2010. Untill now it has only been a part of Office however starting with Windows 7 the Ribbon will be a part of the Operating System. That means any programmer will be able to add the ribbon to his program instead of the current menu bar. Microsoft envisions a future where all programs running on Windows will have a ribbon instead of the menu bar.

Issue: Fresh Win7 Install; Cannot Run ANY Programs
I downloaded Windows 7 from MSDNAA from my school and burned it to a blank DVD (4.90GB I believe is the capacity). Everything seemed to work fine and the burn didn't seem corrupted even when I burned it at full speed, so please keep this in mind for the following issue. After I successfully installed Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit on my system, I ran into an issue. Certain programs will not open or execute at all, whether it be a setup file or even Internet Explorer 8. Windows Media Player opens sometimes, but bugs out too every now and then. This is hindering me because since this is a fresh install, that means I cannot begin to install drivers such as the latest Catalyst drivers for my HD 3870. Even if I open it as Administrator, it does nothing but show the usual "Processing" mouse animation spinning symbol and after a while, nothing shows up. I checked the task manager and I see it is still running, but since I don't see anything, I have to kill the process. Again, this happens with more than 50% of the Application files/Programs that I have tried and this is a fresh install of Windows 7. I have tried to re-install Windows 7 again to no avail. One weird error message I got was when I tried to open the sample "Wildlife in HD" video just to test it out: "Server Execution Failed". I don't know what else to try and right now I am using my laptop with Windows XP to use this forum since I can't even open my browser on my desktop. Is there a way to solve this problem? Sorry for my first lengthy post, but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible. And I think my specs should show below since I filled that part out....does it?

Core 2 E4300 Can Run Virtual PC But XP Not Supported
My CPU is Intel Core 2 E4300. I have been running Windows 7 x64 and have installed Microsoft Virtual Machine 64 bit edition. I have 3 Windows XP machines inside Virtual PC 2007 SP1, and all of them runs fine. I was reading the thread regarding the CPUs that supports XPM, and E4300 is listed as NOT supported. Is it possible? I can run my own WinXP virtual machines, but I cannot run XPM? After I installed Windows Virtual PC Beta x64 (Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu) and Windown XP Mode Beta (VirtualWindowsXP.msi), I can NO longer run my Virtual PC 2007 program. The error message was "Virtual PC 2007 SP1 is not supported on this version of windows". This is weird. Also, where can I find a tutorial on setting up XPM step by step?

Run Fujitsu Dot Matrix Using Virtual PC
I will soon be buying a few new computers for the small business I work for. We are looking to get top-of-the-line computers that will last us another 10 years or so, so I'd like to go with Windows 7 64-bit Professional. We were at first a bit concerned, though, that the main program we use, DataEase for DOS (yes, I know it's antiquated, lol) wouldn't work, but we've been told it should work fine through a Virtual PC emulated environment running WinXP. What concerns us now, though, is whether or not we will be able to continue using our old Fujitsu DL4600 dot-matrix printers. We need these printers for printing on three-part paper to get signatures and such. I'm quite sure there is no 64-bit driver available for these printers, but since we are going to be running XP through Virtual PC - will we be able to print to these printers through that emulated environment?

Upgrade XP Prof X64 English To Win7 Ultimate X64 Dutch
Ok, i'm dazzled by the many websites with each a different opinion, upgrade paths, and so. It took me hours of reading and clicking. I'm nearly fed up. So finally made it to this forum. With my question: Is it possible to legally upgrade from XP professional X64 English (OEM) to Windows 7 Ultimate X64 Dutch? Retail or OEM needed? BTW: Windows 7 Professional X64 Dutch would be a good alternative. It's unclear to me if it' s allowed to switch from an English OS to a dutch OS. Some say any new OS MUST be the same language as the old one. But is this also appliable for the Ultimate version, since it can switch to other languages after install? I will be doing a clean install. Further on i am struggling with the ' professional' to ' ultimate' switch. In some cases that path would not be allowed, others say it is allowed. What we'd need is a wizard containing all the different choices and possiblilities. Simply choose the old OS from a drop down menu and the new OS, and it would tell you YES thats possible or NO, impossible. And under what conditions. Would draw a lot of site visitors. Just my 2 cents.

Image Current Vista Installation And Run On Win 7 As Virtual Machine
My main desktop is a Vista Ultimate machine and I would like to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on it. However, I have Adobe Web Standard CS3 set up on this machine and if I re-installed it on Windows 7 Ultimate I would have to get it all set up again for preferences, to point to my web sites, etc which I don't want to do. I would rather replace Adobe Web Standard when CS5 comes out and install it fresh on Windows 7 Ultimate. Using Microsoft technologies is there any way I can somehow image my current Vista Ultimate installation and run it as a virtual machine on Windows 7 Ultimate and still have Adobe Web Standard CS3 work as it did before?

Upgrade From X32 Bit To X64 Bit
I have a Gateway computer running Windows Vista 32 bit which has all requirements now for x64 bit Windows 7. Is there anyone who can give me a direct answer if I can do a direct upgrade from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit? They are stating from Microsoft that both the 32 and 64 bit are included in the Windows 7 box. Even the Windows upgrade advisor states I have everything needed to run Windows 7 64 bit, but it does not state that I can use the Windows 7 64 bit software.

Run Different Language Programs
How do i keep the OS in English, but run another program as a different language There should be an option to have a program always run as a set language I would like to be able to run an English, Japanese and Korean program side by side, not reset the computer just to run one app. I Know about applocal, but some times it does not cut it and the program fails to run properly. Windows should let me run a program from any country, not just one at a time.

Can Startup Programs Run As Administrator ?
I have a couple of programs (Logitech Setpoint is one) which need to run as administrator in order to work in some programs (e.g. Visual Studio 2005). They are set to run at start-up, however since I've set them to run as administrator, they don't run. Is there any way to get these to run at start up?

Virtual PC Beta X64 Guest Support
How disappointing to find out that WVPC does not support x64 Guests... As an employee of a Microsoft Gold Partner in which my job involves products that are all but now x 64 (Exchange Server, OCS, Windows Server 2008) it is really not sensible to be using a server product - (Windows 2008 with Hyper-V) for my desktop... the licence cost is astronomical compared to a desktop licence! I prefer having my desktop as a desktop OS... now I have to use VMware to test Microsoft products and to demonstrate to customers... absolutely ridiculous... Lets hope Microsoft wakes up and adds x64 support to the RTM...Â

Sound Drivers = Only Able To Run Programs As Admin
When I install the drivers for my HTO Striker 7.1 and restart to complete driver installation, suddenly, I can only run anything if I right click and Run as Administrator.. not even Firefox. Its annoying to have to get the gray User Access Control screen everytime I want to do something, as well as having to right click and left click just to start a program. HTO Striker 7.1 drivers on their site are listed as being good for Windows 7 x64. What could be happening here? Has anyone had this problem?

Cannot Run 64-Bit DVD
I wanted to install 64-Bit. I had to install 32-Bit because I could not run the DVD from boot. I was getting the driver not found error, so I had to run the setup starting from WinXP 32-Bit. Since my drive didn't work anymore after install Win7, I assumed that was the reason I was getting driver not found. I have a drive that works with 7 now, but I can't run the 64-Bit DVD at boot. It just goes to a black screen telling me to restart, insert install CD, and choose repair. Do I need to completely remove 32-Bit before trying to run the 64-Bit DVD?

Can't Install Myst 64 Bit Programs, And Some 32 Bit
Just like it says, I have some (several) programs that can install in either 32bit or 64bit as well as I have straight up 32bit and 64bit programs only that some install but most do not. Why is this? This is how it always goes, every time too. I start the installation process and it starts doing it's thing. All looks good so far, as the installer takes you through to each next step, like normal. And then it comes! After a couple of three of these first things (which all seem like they are working normal) all of a sudden, I see that it wants to install something quite normal, a "MicroSoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (64)" file/program/whatever and as the little green process line grows it gets almost to the end, and sits there for a few seconds and then I get THIS popup error message: http://www.md-arts.com/scrn/64bit_Windows7_InstallingError_Cxx2005.JPG Is there something I can do to fix this? I have even tried downloading this file off the net and installed it, but it never seems as though it did any good, since I still get these same problems.

Error When Run A 32 Bit Program
Alright, well I only saw this once before, but now it seems like every time I try to run a vintage 32-bit program it comes up. Whether it's Cool Edit Pro, Halo (the Microsoft game), whatever. anything that uses the video card - this comes up. In this case it's Windows Live Messenger 8.1, running in Windows 2000 compatibility, so that Microsoft lets me sign on without upgrading to their new crap they call a messenger. (That's not the point, though, if even one person tells me that the problem is that I didn't upgrade WLM I'm gonna ignore them... It works PERFECTLY on ALL the computers I've done it on, so that's NOT the issue!!) Anyway, does anybody know what that error means and how to fix it? Google tells me that it's a DirectX9 DLL problem (Which is way outdated, right? Since DX11 is the one that comes with it)... I tried all the suggestions, from installing DX9 (which of course didn't work since it "detected" a newer version), to replacing the DLL with a fresh one. I might try installing Windows 7 x64 in VMWare, then copy the DLL from *THAT*, but still... what's the problem? It worked fine and that error is just now coming up. I scanned for viruses last night with Malwarebytes, and it's clean.
