How To Replace Windows 7 With Xp

Mar 7, 2012

I've recently purchased a new Sony Vaio with Windows 7 Professional. Most of my software is dated and needs to run on Virtual XP which is not as virtual as I'd hoped. I hate it so much that I want to switch back to Windows XP Professional (by far the best platform produced) and I know I will lose at least 4gb of usable memory but so be it. Does any know how I get XP installed?

Windows 7 License Transfer?

Aug 4, 2012

Its been a little while since I've been here and I have a quick question about this new fangled Windows 7. I have it and Windows XP installed as a dual boot on my machine currently. However, I'm ready to get rid of XP entirely and switch to 7. I have a new SSD coming and I could just clone the drive but instead I was wondering about doing a fresh install on the new drive and just formatting the old one.

Windows 7 License Question

Feb 27, 2012

Now first off, I would like to make myself clear; I am not attempting to break any laws/rules, I am attempting to find out the rules so as NOT to break them. My question is this: If I make a virtual machine of Windows 7 with 5 users, on a Linux server, and have 5 Linux machines hooked to it, would I be breaking any MS licensing laws if each "Windows user" accessed that Virtual machine from their Linux machine? And to be honest I'm not even certain the Virtual machines can be accessed this way or if they have to reside on the actual Linux client

Transfer Of Windows 7 License Between PCs

Sep 9, 2010

I bought the retail version of Win 7 Home Premium when it came out, and put it on my laptop.I'm now building a PC for my parents, and I was thinking about transferring the Win 7 install to the new PC.I still have the Vista for my laptop that it came with, but would probably want to keep Win 7 on it until i'm happy that the PC is working ok.Having never transferred licences between PCs? Will the two versions run concurrently (I know its a license for one, but i'd like to know what happens!) or will the 'old' version stop working correctly?

Will Windows 7 64 Pro Boot When Replace MB / CPU

Aug 3, 2011

last friday my 596mhz 512k laptop died. But the good news is I have a desktop that died an hour later.spent sat/sun buying and setting up a new ASUS i3 laptop and retrieving my docs from my desktop, critical as I'm in a jobe search (talk about bad timing) but got every thing up and running,Desktop dies in bios and as it was old figured time to rebuild. the MB has been a bit flakey for a while. So I ordered a Gigabyte Z86 MB, an i5 2500K cpu, 16 gig of ram, and a new dvd as the new MB has no IDE. They'll be here today and I'll build it in the next couple days.To be clear I'm keeping the case, PS, 4 HDDs (replaced the old ones 5 months ago) and video a geForce 8800 so still quite decent for my minimal gaming since the HDDs are fine and have a viable win7 64 pro build, do you think the computer will boot? I did make the repair/ restore disks but don't know if they'll work either.in the day I built and worked on these and wondered why folks didn't do their own work, but without the cheater disks and MS / other vendor support disks it can be a pain to do some of this stuff.

I cannot install OEM versions of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit from a Windows 7 x64 DVD with COA and valid license keys. I purchased a new OEM Windows 7 x64 DVD from a well known retailer for a new computer build with all new components. When I tried to install with the Windows DVD to a new empty intel 240 gb SSD the install failed and I was presented the following error.

Moving Windows 7 X64 Pro From MSDN License?

Jan 24, 2012

I graduated college a year and a half ago and with my degree program I had access to the MSDN. I don't know if this still exists, but I was able to attain licenses for much of Microsoft software, excluding Office...When Windows 7 came out I got it through MSDN and ran a fresh install of it over my laptop's WinXP.Now, my laptop's CPU fan is dead and the laptop only operate for a few minutes before overheating, so basically this license is sitting on an unusable piece of hardware. I would like to move the license for Windows 7 Pro x64 from the defunct laptop to my new desktop pc.I have tried using external fans to try to cool the laptop, but it's old and still does not manage the heat well; I don't want to use the laptop anymore.Firstly, is it possible to move these licenses from MSDN, or are they like OEM licenses?Secondly, how do I transfer the license?

Flip Windows License Between 2 Computers?

Dec 14, 2012

I bought the retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium last year and am currently using it on my mbp via bootcamp. I am now building my own computer. I want to know if I can install and activate windows 7 on my new pc and deactivate but not uninstall it on my current macbook. So I want to keep windows 7 installed on my laptop and I don't mind losing the updates and anti virus.

The second part of my question is that will it be possible to deactivate it from my to be built computer and reactivate it on my laptop a year later?I won't be using the laptop for now but I will be using it later and my pc will be left unused for some months. Can I keep windows 7 installed on both my macbook and my pc and switch the license between the 2 of them when I need to?

Dual Booting But Want To Replace XP With Windows 7

Feb 22, 2009

I have been dual booting XP Pro 32-bit and Vista Ultimate 64-bit for some time now but haven't really found a good way to delete XP Pro (my first installed os) leaving my Vista os able to boot up normally. I have scoured the forums and was about to delete a lot of files from the XP partition but leaving the loader files and root files alone. This would enable me to free up a lot of drive space. Currently the 2 os's reside on a RAID setup one partition for XP and another for Vista.

OK so I have found the Windows 7 forums and thinks that it would be good idea to replace XP with Windows 7 but the upgrade options for the Beta do not allow upgrade to Windows 7 from XP.

If I upgraded XP to Vista 32-bit what would happen to my boot files etc etc and could I then further upgrade to Windows 7 leaving that and Vista 64-bit dual booting together?

Or is this a complicated way to do things?

What I really want to do is delete XP Pro - I am rather fond of Vista now and seems very stable. But I do not want to be faced with boot problems after deleting.

I currently have installed on both os's, Acronis's OS Selector and BCD Edit.

I really need a very accurate method rather than a theoretical answer - someone who has done this successfully please. I have spent too long wading through forums looking for a way of successfully deleting XP and receiving maybe this will work or maybe that type of answers.
