Prolific USB To Serial Driver
Hardware ID = USBVID_067B&PID_2303

I have been all over the internet looking for a driver that works with this device. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 64-Bit. Every driver that I have found that will "work" absolutely does not work. Any ideas on a working driver?

Prolific USB Serial Adapter Driver Problem
I recently purchased a USB to Serial cable for my MacBook (running Windows 7 Beta 1, via Boot Camp) to control my Uniden BCD396XT scanner radio.  However, when I try to install the driver, it gives the message "Device driver software was not successfully installed."  I right-clicked on the device in Device Manager and selected Upgrade Driver... and browsed to the path of the downloaded drivers .Â

After selecting the appropriate path, it thinks for a minute then displays a window saying, "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it."

Further down in that window it says, "USB-SERIAL CH340, Access is denied."  I also tried downloading the latest drivers from Prolific's web site (the manufacturer's of the chip inside the USB-Serial adapter), but those also failed.  Why is Windows 7 having such a hard time installing this simple driver that apparently works well on Windows Vista?

If anyone has had success installing the drivers for the Prolific USB-Serial in Windows 7, please post insights.

USB To Serial Support Vs Native COM Ports
I have a new laptop at work, a HP Elitebook 6930p without its own internal COM-port. Too bad actually, but the days of the good old serial port seems to be gone. In my line of work I often use COM-ports to communicate with various PABXs and/or other TeleCom devices.

Now I have a small Belkin USB-to-serial adapter (model F5U257), and it works fine with Windows XP SP3 that I'm running now on my laptop. And I can use a DOS based program from Panasonic to communicate with an old PABX they have without any problems. The program also works fine with Vista and Windows 7.

My old work laptop was a HP Compaq nc8000 with an internal serial port. This computer now runs Windows 7 just for fun and testing. So I know the program works fine in Windows 7 and in XP on that laptop, and I can use the internal serial port to communicate with the PABX just fine both with XP and 7 ... What I cannot do, is use the Belkin USB-to-serial in Windows 7 on that laptop and communicate with the PABX, even though 7 install the adapter without problem (an adapter from ST Lab needed drivers to work correctly).

My problem, and my question is - "Any" USB-to-serial adapter doesn't seem to work as good as a native COM-port in Windows 7, at least for me and my program that I use towards the specific PABX. That is the only thing I've tested so far - I haven't had so much chance yet to do further tests towards other products like an external modem and/or other PABXs. I haven't installed Windows 7 on my new HP Elitebook 6930p yet either, because I need to make a disk image for quick restore to XP since I'm dependent on a working computer.

Synaptics Serial Driver For W7 64bit
My Windows 7 64 bit install is all good except for the Synaptics touchpad integrated into my keyboard. It is recognized as a Microsoft Serial Mouse, but the latest Synaptics drivers don't seem to 'do' serial. I have tried the new 14.0 driver, as well as an older 9.0 version designed for 64 bit Vista, but to no avail.

I've also tried a serial to PS/2 to USB conversion, and though the touchpad is then recognized as an HID compliant mouse, I can't get it recognized as a touchpad with scrolling, etc. I can't use it as a PS/2 mouse because my new motherboard only has a PS/2 keyboard connector.

USB Driver Error - USB Ports Do Not Work
I'm not sure if any other specs needed to solve this problem.

I upgraded from vista 32bit to windows seven 32bit a few days ago, ever sense i have upgraded i have never been able to use any usb ports. i have went into the device manager and uninstalled and reinstalled the usb port drivers, they will start to work for about 30 seconds then will fail.

This is the error in the properties under usb port:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I have installed my motherboards new drivers and bios for windows 7. also have updated windows and installed all major updates. I have been working on fixing this error for days now and i have had no success.

PCI Serial Port
I just installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers. I am missing two drivers, and I don't know what they are:

PCI Serial Port

PCI Simple Communication Controller

What exactly are these? I own a Lenovo X200 Tablet. Any ideas where I can find the drivers for these two things?

Virtual XP And Serial Port
I'm trying to use one of the serial ports from withing the XP virtual machine. It seems to work, but it intermittently drops the connection. This is on a Dell Latitude E6400, running build 7100 of Windows 7 x64. I have tried adjusting the FIFO buffers, fiddling with flow control and bit rates, all to no avail. Admittedly, that's kind of a shot in the dark for me as I'm not exactly a serial port ninja.Anyone else having a similar issue?

Serial Key Issues
I have recently purchased a copy of Windows 7 Upgrade for my PC. Like an idiot, I upgraded my laptop and PC without realizing that you could only use one serial key per machine. My question is, what exactly happens if you never use an activation key on one machine? I was told that a message just shows up every day? Is it as simple as that or will something much worse end up happening?

Install Windows 7 If I Have A Serial, But Not The DVD ?
Anyway, a month ago I bought a laptop which came with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. However, it had issues (for those who know about the issue, it's when "Not Responding" error constantly appears in all applications. Something to do with setting the drives to work in IDE or AHCI mode). So I put Windows XP on it, erasing the 7.

But then 2 days ago I got myself a desktop. It's relatively high end, but it's custom built. Did not come with an OS installed. So I put Ubuntu Linux on it. But I'd like to install the 7.

So can I do it somehow for free? I have the 7 Home Premium serial number on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop, but I don't have the DVDs. Is it somehow possible to download the DVDs of the internet, and then put my serial number in?

I know I could find it on the torrent websites, but I am not sure I want to do that. Would it be legal to download a copy of windows 7 from a torrent website, but then put my serial number during the installation?

Serial KMDF Drivers - Cannot Open Com Port
I'm using ,WDK version 7100.0.0Win 7 os RC built 7100This is the directory of WDK source code C:WinDDK7100.0.0srcserialserialWhen is was executing loopback testing using hyperterminal on WIN 7 using onboard port COM1, it works. The next step, i plug in one PCI serial adapter and install the serial driver i build from win 7 WDK. The installation was successfull.

So when i check on device manager, COM3 appears under Ports(COM & LPT). Everything seems to be okay and i tried to run a loopback test on COM3,I encouter this error when i hyper terminal tries to connect to port:Unable to open port  (COM3). Please check port settings.Subsequently when i try to open COM1 using then hyperterminal and run the loopback test again, I encounter the same error of unable to open port as well.

So, i initially thought that both ports might be conflicting , but when i checked, both ports are working properly and are not conflicting with each other. I do not know what is wrong here.

Just for your information, I managed to successfully run the loopback test on port COM3 on windows XP. Port Com1 sucessfully passed the test as well. I'm using the same serial source code in WDK and build for WIN XP and WIN 7.Any expert advice on this issue?

Virtual XP Application Not Accessing Serial Ports
I am having a problem with a Virtual XP Application in Windows 7 not accessing serial ports. I have tried turning off the firewalls, adjusting the serial port settings, etc. I am running one on board serial port and four USB to serial adapters. I am mainly testing with Com 1, being that it is the on board port. The application sees the com ports, but I am getting no data out.

Multi Installations With The Same DVD And Serial Code, Is It Possible?
I installed first the Windows 7 in a large NTFS partitions available in a computer  with WinXP installed, without important files, so no risks..., but with more simple rated hardware (only "1"  whit this windows 7, because video card simplicity). But  Win7 is very ok in this computer (I´m using it to write this now), the boot loader to choose WinXP or Win7  is perfect.

So, if possible, I want conserve this installation until change its videocard to an other more modern, and see how is this beta version in it. Now, felling  me more secure, as my principle computer, with Vista Business installed,  hardware rate= 4,2, has a partition with 32 Gb availeale, I ask you if it is allowed use the same DVD of windows 7 beta to experiment it in other computer with different hardware?

Move A Serial Ata Hard Drive From Pc To Another
Our 4 year old Gateway FX400XL desktop with two 250GB, 7200RPM Serial ATA hard drives recently quit booting up. Windows 7 Ultimate (beta and then RC) was 32 bit OS with a dual boot for XP on one partitioned drive and Win 7 on the other. No problems with Windows 7 or the dual boot.We need the data off the Win 7 drive and want to move the drive to a Dell with Intel Xeon CPU, an empty Serial ATA slot, with Windows 7 Ultimate (same image as the Gateway's).Can we remove drive from dead one and plug it into the Dell with success? Is any preparation necessary, like sysprep?

Standard Serial Ports (COM1 And COM2) Cannot Be Installed
I need to use both of the standard RS-232 COM ports for some instrumentation I use.  Under Windows 7 RC, the COM ports are not installed during windows installation.  If I try to add them with the Legacy installation option, the resources are already bound to other devices (PCI Bus for IO and ACPI for IRQ).  No unused IO and IRQ are available.

Any suggestions?

Use Serial (COM) Port To Change Channels On Set Top Box
I've tried as hard as I can to get my STB to work with Windows 7 media Center and an IR blaster (Pinnacle Remote Kit) and my Motorola DCT2224 Set top box. It appears that Windows Media Center is unable to recognize the IR code for changing channels correctly, nor can i find codes that work within the list of Motorola codes either.

I've even tried manually setting each button (1-9, 0, CH+, CH-) and I still can't get the channels to change correctly. What I'm looking at doing is directly connecting my computer and my Set Top Box via a 9-pin serial cable (COM1) through the STB Data port.

I've read on numerous threads across the internet that it's possible with Sage and this specific model STB, however there are no mentions as to WMC. Is it possible at all to direct my STB via my COM port?

I've also found that using the Data port still requires the correct IR codes, and I have found a downloadable set of codes for this STB in the form of a *.ir file as well as a *.ini and I would like to know if it's even possible to drop this in a folder somewhere and direct WMC to it and simply control the IR blaster too. Anyone know how to fix this?

Trail Download Of Win 7 - MAPS Serial Key Activation
I am new to MAPS never mind the TechNet forum. I wanted to ask a simple question regarding MAPS.I recently subscribed to MAPS and wanted to know if it is possible to install a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate while I wait for Microsoft to grant me access to the serial keys for MAPS software?ie. Install Trail -> Activate with MAPS serial.Normally I am patient with this type of thing however, I have recently had to salvage my data from an extremely old Athlon XP machine .

(yes....extremely old!) and I really need to get back to work but I don't want to install a copy of Windows 7 on my new machine and configure my software just to find out I have to do it all over again.
