Problem:Partition Not Recognized

The Partition, where I have Windows Vista on, is not recognized by Windows 7. Is there any trick to solve this. I can access the partition through booting into Vista but not in 7. My Harddrive is 1TB Western Digital, partitioned into 800 GB for Windows 7 and 200GB for Vista. The 200GB aren't recognized.

Upgrade Xp To Win7 - Partition Not Recognized
I'm currently running Windows XP (SP3)and am trying to run the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. Each time the installation gets to the point of starting to erase the XP program files and load the Win 7 files and stops with a statement that it doesn't recognize the C partition where XP is installed. The PC has a single SATA HD with only a single partition. Is there some step that's left of the installation instructions that I could be missing?

Logical Partition Created By Win 7 Vanishes When Boot To WinXp Partition
Summary:
A logical partition created by Win-7 was deleted when I booted to a partition with WinXp on the same drive.

More info:
My development computer has multiple drives with multiple partitions.

Drive A: WD-300-gb-Velociraptor (Model H)
Primary Partition 1: 32gb Win7600-64-bit
P.P. 2: 32gb Vista-Sp2-64-bit
P.P. 3: 20gb WinXpPro-Sp3-32-bit
Logical partition 4: 100gb data
Logical partition 5: 102gb data (vanishes when boot to P.P. 3)

Drive B: WD-300-gb-Velociraptor (Model G)
Primary Partition 1: 32gb Win7600-64-bit
P.P. 2: 20gb WinXpPro-Sp3-32-bit
P.P. 3: 230gb data

Drive C: Intel 160gb G2 SSD
Primary Partition 1: 32gb Win7600-64-bit
P.P. 2: 20gb WinXpPro-Sp3-32-bit
P.P. 3: 100gb data

Drive D: WD-1.5tb-Green
Primary Partition 1: 32gb Win7600-64-bit
P.P. 2: 1500gb Data

Some of the partitions were created with WinXp, and some with Win-7. I don't recall exactly which were created with what o.s. However, I think the 5 partitions created on Drive-A (the Model H velociraptor) were created with Win-7, but I'm not sure.

When I booted to the WinXp partition on Drive-A, after a period of time, the 5th partition vanished. I was unable to recover data directly, but I had a backup. However, I was unable to create a logical partition with WinXp. I got a vague message when attempting to format the partition about:

"An unexpected wrror has occurred. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error. Close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer."

There was no info in the Event Log.

I was able to create the logical partition with Win-7, and copy the data back to the 5th partition. However, when I booted again to WinXp, the partition vanished again.

Some questions:

* Am I doing something wrong?

* Is it not advised to "mix and match" partitions created with Win-7 and WinXp?

* Are SimpleDisks created with Win-7 incompatible with WinXp? Or perhaps "fragile"?

* Is it best to not have more than 4 primary partitons on a drive?

* Is it preferred to not use logical-partitions with Win-7?

After Recovery, 200 Mb System Partition Became A Primary Partition
Like the title says, the 200mb system drive that Win7 creates during first patition/install has suddenly become a regular E: drive on me.In more detail:1) When I installed windows 7, I created a 40GB OS partition (C:) and a 555 GB file/program/media partition (X:), both NTFS. Windows 7 Automatically created a 200 gb system partition. The install worked fine, and I was able to install and run programs on both C: and X:2) I backed up some files from vista to Linux before switching to 7, and I wanted to put them on my X: partition.

I restarted, pressed esc in bios, selected my linux drive and let it boot up. I copied the files onto my X: drive with NTFS-3g, then rebooted to windows.3) Boot was interrupted by a chkdsk message wanting to check X: for consistancy. The check found no problems. Once inside windows, the X: drive was missing its display bar and couldn't open. Right-click>tools>Error-Checking complained "disk check could not be performed because windows can't access this disk." Computer Management showed the drive as RAW instead of NTFS.

Opening cmd and running chkdsk /r X: reported the drive as NTFS with 0 errors, and correctly listed all the files, but computer management wouldn't recognize it.NOTE: My Linux (and its bootloader) is on a  different physical hard drive than windows, which I have to hit esc during bootup to even access. This is not an issue of bootloaders corrupting each other.4) I didn't know how to get X: back in shape, so I decided to backup/reformat/replace. Linux read the contents of X: just fine, and the backup went well.

I reformatted X: with the 7 disk, then replaced all the files. They copied over fine, but the windows bootmgr somehow got lost in the process.5) I loaded the windows 7 disk, and let 'startup repair' do its thing. It worked wonderfully, and everything on both partitions is good as new, EXCEPT my 200mb system drive has turned into a regular E: drive. It shows up as a 'Primary Drive' in computer management. How can I return it to a hidden "System Drive" like it originally was?

Deleting A Partition / Moving Entire OS To Another Partition
So here's the deal, I partitioned my hard drive when the beta for windows 7 came out, and now the final version of windows 7 is on that created partition.  I had vista on my other one and wanted to delete that and just merge the empty space so I just have one main partition.  The problem is that I can't delete/format the other partition because it's a primary one and it's active.

The partition I'm using right now is a logical drive and it's easier to delete. Does anyone know how I could basically move my entire OS to the other partition?  Or how I could make my logical partition into an active primary one? Also, I don't have vista anymore, I clean installed the same version of windows 7 over vista to take us as little space as possible, will that make it easier to switch things over? I've tried a backup but that just saves documents, not programs.

The system image was promising until it required me to include every partition. Am I missing something? Can anyone help? I just want to be able to free up 110 GB one way or another without having to manually install all of my programs. I have 2 3rd party partitioning software programs but they won't let me erase/format the primary partition

Installation - Partition - Why A 100MB System Partition ?
I have started the installation process of windows 7 on a clean 1 TB hard drive. In order to ensure expediency of the read time of my primary drive, I choose the custom installation. When I did I partioned the drive as 250GB & 700GB. Hoever it also created a 100MB system partition on its own. It never did this in Vista. Is it suppose to do that?

How To Move Win 7 Partition To Vista Partition ?
I got a disk drive with 3 partitions...

1 - vista 64 (50GB)

2 - win 7 64 (30GB)

3 - data (80GB)

I want to move win 7 installation to vista partition and extend partition 3 with freed partition 2.

-I though to do this

-Backup win 7 to external drive

-boot from cd installation

-choose to restore win 7 in partition 1

-After it boots correctly, resize partition 3 adding partition 2.

I realized that boot files are in partition 1, when I tried in windows 7 to backup system (partition 2) it want sto backup full partition 1, because it's part of system and partition 1 is considered critical.

Any procedure to accomplish this?

CD Drive Not Recognized After Reboot
I'm using a Dell laptop Studio XPS 1640. Ok, I was about to upgrade to Windows 7 and it listed a couple of programs that needed to be deleted, so I uninstalled them. The 2nd or 3rd time I was required to restart my computer, it froze at the "Shutting Down..." screen for about 20 minutes. I waited and waited and decided to power down. I turned it back on, and it didnt say Windows was not shut down properly, so i figured it was ok.

However when I booted back up, I was going to eject and re-insert the upgrade CD. I hit eject, nothing happens. Hit eject again, nothing happens. I go to Computer to try and view the CD thats in my CD Drive....NOTHING SHOWS UP! MY CD drive is now UNRECOGNIZED by my computer! Now I cant complete the upgrade. Not to mention, the upgrade made me uninstall itunes and my virus protection, saying a new version will be installed automatically after the upgrade.

Mouse Freeze Up Or Is Not Recognized
I have been testing Windows 7 Beta with all of the updates on an Insperion 600m. Surprisingly it worked fine and ran Office 2007. Suddenly my mousepad pointer locked up. I shut the computer down and connected a wireless mouse with no correction to the problem.

I shut down a second time and connected a wired mouse and restarted the computer again. Again the mouse was motionless. Beside three dead mice what could be the problem?

Sometimes Keyboard Not Recognized At Boot Up
When I boot up my system, my keyboard is not recognized sometimes. In the past it would not see my keyboard after being awaken from a sleep state, but that appears to have stopped. I have uninstalled both of my keyboard drivers (HID and PS 2) and switched keyboards! I had to rebot three or four times before it re-installed my PS2 keyboard driver.

The PS2 driver is the 2006 32 bit Legacy driver that comes with windows 7. I am running Windows 7 64 bit business edition. I have a MSI X58 Premium Motherboard, I7 920 processor, ATI Radeon 4670 Graphics card, Enermax 500 watt power supply and two SATA hard drives (SSD 64 Gigs C: drive, Western digital 500 gb and a IDE DVD RW). I have tried several different Keyboards, with the same results. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Wifi Adapter Not Recognized
I have a problem with Windows 7 Release Candidate (beta rev7100). I have a Linksys Wireless-B (WUSB11V4) network adapter that I use to connect to my wifi router. It works fine under my Windows XP. However, as I installed Win7 beta, I didn't find any way to make it work. Tried to find a driver, but it does not seems to exist for Win7.

Tried to install the driver I got with it, but it doesn't seem to work as it's for Windows XP. Tried to make Win7 recognize it by its own ways, but failed. The adapter's a 802.11b. Is that too old for Windows 7?

By the way, when I try to plug it out, I hear a sound and when I plug it in again, I hear another one, but it does not seem to be the "hardware recognized" sound.

Can anyone help or send a driver for windows 7?

None Of USB Connections Are Recognized
I have just installed Windows 7 32 bit and now none of my USB connections are being recognised. my computer specs are: http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_9301AWSMi_Laptop_LX.AWP0X.008/version.asp Before I installed Windows 7 everything worked fine on XP. I have 3 Maxtor Onetouch 4 external hard drives, a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Even my iphone isnt being found when i plug it in. I get no response from windows when I plug the USB's in. I can hear the external hard drives powering up so it isn't a power issue and I have swapped all of the USB connection leads about and it doesn't make any difference.

I've tried all of my hard drives on my friends computer and they all work fine. Ive looked through the forums for answers but cannot seem to find any that work. I have been to the disk manager and device manager and they cant find the USB connections. Ive also been to the Maxtor/Seagate website and non of their walk through seem to work or be applicable to this scenario.

Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated as I'm a student and really need to access these external hard drives along with my i-Phone etc (preferably on my own PC).

At first gave me an error message when tried to initialize, now it's turned grey and I can't even try to perform the action. Tried powering the drive, shutting down and restarting, etc. I do get a chime when I connect the USB. Works fine w/XP, so I'm sure the problem is not the drive itself.

DVD Not Recognized Sporadically
I just installed Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1737, and have problems with my DVD/CD RW. When I first put a CD or DVD in, the drive is recognized. After a short while, the DVD disappears and there is an error as if the device does not exist.

I have tried the fix for removing registry entries "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}"

low and upper filters, but this does not work.

I have also tried running the command "bcdedit /set load options DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS", but this also does not work. I cannot eject the DVD/CD once the drive disappears from explorer until I completely shut down and restart the PC. Any ideas?

Please email me at (email removed for privacy) with a fix. I like Windows 7 for the low CPU usage, but actually think I am ready to go back to (gasp !) Vista. I also attempted to use the "FixIt" file on the Microsoft support site, but got an error....
