PC Freezing / ATI Display Driver Stopped Responding Error
Feb 21, 2011
I have been receiving the ATI display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered error. I formatted a partition on my PC with a fresh install of windows 7, installed latest catalyst drivers but no dice, ramped my fan speed up to 100% to troubleshoot and it definitely worked, stopped getting the error but pc starts seriously lagging after a while (playing spore & Black and White 2) playability also increases if I down the res from 1920 x 1080. This seems to indicate overheating n my opinion but I haven't seen the card go above 57 degrees. My chassis has no fans but with everything at stock should it overheat especially on old games. I have run Prime95 and Furmark all came out fine, no glitches. Max temp on Furmark was 84 degrees.

So I have a pretty terrible problem. Right now, I'm running Windows 7 Build 7100 on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop with Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T3400 at 2.17 GHz and it runs beautifully.
My only problem comes when I'm playing a little game called Guild Wars. It runs pretty good for a while and then I run into my problem. My problem is that my screen goes completely blank and then reappears with this error message.
It happens to me every time I play Guild Wars. It never fails.
Anybody know why it does this? Any advice on what to do?

I am trying to load the site MYHABIT Sign In (don't judge me, ok? lol) and it won't load at all. If I delete the cookies it places on my computer, the home page will load and it will let me log in, but it won't load any of the merchandise pages at all - it just hangs there trying to load - I never get an error of any kind. I had been using OpenDNS after having some other trouble with my ISP, so I tried switching to GoogleDNS but that has made no difference.I ran the flushdns.bat file as instructed in the tips for posting thread, but forgot to save the snip as a jpeg before I ran the bat file.

I am a bit stumped here, my computer at work is getting the display error mentionedabove about every 4 or 5 days or so. When this error occurs the computer unresponsive, it will operate, but at an untolerable speed (like 5 minutes to open browser, during which time the mouse will not even move) The PC is a Dell vostro 220 -[URL]have searched for this error ongoogle and as well as here, but it seems as though this only seems to be happening tothose with discrete GPU's which we do not have. I have installed all windows updatesincluding one for the G45/43 express graphics, and it is still happening

So I ran the test earlier today , and everything was fine. Max temperature after 11 minutes running the test was as far as I can remember not more than 85 it stayed stable with only 1 degree difference from time to time till I stopped the test. I am with Palit Gtx570 Sonic Platinium video card. So I didn't take a screen because I thought everything was fine. Seven hours later I ran the test again and then suddenly here is what happened :
Actually I bought my computer recently. I am using Windows 7 64bit. I had that problem and here is what I have done:
1.Reinstalling drivers from different sources - Palit, Nvidia and disc drivers. Tried older versions. 2. Reinstalling Windows - putting first the drivers of the video and then the drivers of other devices with the purpose to try to detect if there is a driver conflict. 3. Talked with the distributor which sold me that video card and they changed it with a brand new one. The same model. The first video card had that TDR problem quite often. This one not that often. The first one was able to force the TDR crash in two ways -no need of those test. I installed a game called - World of Warcraft and I tested it there was where i experienced TDRs for first time. After that I found out that I can force them to happen also when I am testing the " Windows experience index" - usually happens on the 3D Geometry and some other 3D tests. Somewhere in the internet I read that it was due to a low core voltage so here comes the : 4. I increased the core voltage a little bit to 1038 with afterburner program. But this didn't help at all. - this is considered for the first video card. Now I am kinda desperate. It cannot be from the vide card to be malfunctioning because it was changed with new one. It is not the driver too... As you can see the first time it passed the test of the FurMark with no reclamations second time it failed. Sometimes it passed windows experience index without a problem , other times it is experiencing TDRs. P.S. Here are the parts I am using - everything is brand new recently bought: i7-2600 3.4 Ghz ; Asrock extreme4 gen3; Palit GTX570 Sonic Platinium; Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb dual channeled 1600 ( CL:9); Seasonic 850W Bronze; Box - Thermaltake RX-I

I have a dell inspiron 1501 Laptop that came with the vista platform. However, I have upgraded my computer since (and it's been years now as well) to windows 7 ultimate. For months I have been able to use my computer fine with no problems whatsoever pertaining to my Display, but of late, since about 3 months now or so, my computer has been delaying when I am watching movies and now every time I am on it, my display driver keeps on stopping and then displays this message
"DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED AND HAS RECOVERED"
I get this message I would say almost every 2-5 minutes when I am using my computer. It is getting frustrating because it makes it harder to watch movies, and burn any kind of dvds on my computer.

I am currently having an issue with what I think is my graphics card. When I run online games the game runs for about 2 minutes, crashes and says "display driver AMD has stopped responding and has been repaired." I've googled this problem and none of the solutions that I've found have worked. I've downloaded Microsoft fix it center and it says nothing it wrong. I've tried to update the card but it says it's already updated.
-My graphics card is: AMD Radeon HD 6630
-My computer model is: Sony VIAO SE

I have a fairly fresh install of Windows 7 (< 1 month), because I found a good deal on a SSD I couldnt pass up, and it has been running nice. I mostly use this machine for working and as such used the on-board graphics card of the motherboard (GA-880GM-UD2H), however with the great reviews on Guild Wars 2 I figured I would get back into gaming and bought a XFX Radeon HD 6870 for the occasion. As my Thermaltake TR2-450 would not be sufficient for this FX card I swapped it with a TR2-500 I had on another machine. I can play GW2 for hours at best quality and it works great no slugginess or stuttering at all. However if I start the machine and open up a browser I can within 5 min get 2-3 errors (Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.), and eventually the system will reboot. It is not limited to one browser and has also happened with Windows Live Mail.
System OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 440 Processor, 3000 MHz, 3 Core(s), 3 Logical Processor(s) Ram: Kingston Hyper X DDR3 16GB 1600 PSU: Thermaltake TR2-500W Graphic: XFX Radeon HD 6870 Corsair Force 3 SSD [Hard drive] (90.03 GB) -- drive 0 ST3500418AS [Hard drive] (500.11 GB) -- drive 1 ST3250620A [Hard drive] (250.06 GB) -- drive 2

Sometimes, after having been on for a long time, my screen will go black for a few seconds. It comes back a bit awkwardly, with different parts of the screen appearing separately. Once everything is back, I get a little popup saying that the display driver stopped responding, and has recovered. It's only a minor annoyance, but I'd like to know if there's any way to fix this? In my device manager, it says that I'm missing a video controller, which could be the cause of this.

but has recovered...is the message i get right after my games freeze for about 5 seconds. My games never crash when this happens, screen flashes then comes back as if nothing happened. I get this maybe 1 or 2 times every three days or so.I get this message when im gaming sometimes after my computer wakes up from sleep mode(only seen it do it once though).I have tried catalyst drivers 9.11, 9.12, and 10.1. It has been doing this ever since i got my computer a month ago. I have the newest drivers for just about everything. In the beginning i would get this issue half a dozen times a day but now its much more rare for some reason. I have had this issue in every single one of my games at least once.

Before RMA'ing the card, i reinstalled Windows and still had the issue. What other part should i test? The videocard people said it couldn't be the MB, as it wouldnt display that issue.

I built a system a while back and have been updating it constantly, at the moment I am running AMD 1100T, Asus ROG Crosshair V, 8GB Corsair Vengance RAM, Sapphire HD6950 and Corsair TX750 PSU. I've changed literally everything in it. From memory (4gb Kingston) and mobo (GA 990FX) to processor (AMD 1090T) to GPU (6870 Asus), have done multiple clean installs with win7 64bit, edited registry by adding a QWORD Tdr value and finally disabling it with TdrLevel 0 and im still getting god damn display driver recovered message.. the amount of money and time alone I have spent on this is rediculous

I am writing this from "safe mode" since my system is not stable enough to run and write this at the same time.My problem started when playing League of Legends (Dominion) Normally i would not have a problem, but once in a while the screen would freeze, occasional artifacts would show on screen. Screen would go black for a second or two, and a pop-up lower right corner would show, saying: "Display driver Nvidia version xxx whatever stopped responding and has recovered" This was not so much of a problem really, since it only happened in the beginning of the game, i searched the forums (league of legends) and noticed other people complaining about this as well, so i figured it would be dealt with at some point by someone else.
The problem is this started happening more and more often. So i decided to update my nvidia drivers to the newest version. Changed nothing, it actually made it worse from what i could tell.. So i downgraded to some older drivers.. didn't change a thing. And yes i did everything by the book, deleting all folders, safe mode driver sweeper etc. I also updated windows 7 completely, since i had the bug where a certain update would "jam" the windows updater, i updated it manually.I then tested different stuff. If i opened Nvidia control panel, and marked the section where you see a slowly spinning logo, after 20-40 seconds my screen would flash black a couple of times, and the message "display driver stopped etc" would pop up.I tried running furmark stability test, i could hardly see the first "image" when running the test, it would shut down instantly. When running minecraft, just running the exe and logging in to the menu, would cause strange artifacts after 10-40 secs and also jamming the system, flashing black and responding with: "display driver stopped etc" (in this case i downloaded Ntune, to monitor the graphic card temperature, it climbed from around 40C to 70C)Currently i'm at a point where i boot my system, and when i hit(as in arrive at) desktop, my screen starts flashing b"l"ack and forth. As in showing the desktop and showing a black screen, flickering.. and then rebooting automatically.

It runs amazing with one major exception.
The screen will occasionally black out, then work fine again after displaying this error
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
"Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 195.62 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
It happens more frequently when I play games.
My friends think my video card is dying, but I am unsure and figured Id check on here.

Now I keep getting this message "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered." The screen will get little pixle squares all over and freeze up then shoot to a black screen for a few seconds. when the system come to that error message pops up. It happens usually when i'm just surfing the web or playing solitaire. I updated my BIOS Power supply is more then adequate.

I keep getting the message:
"Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I have received over a dozen warnings in the last 14 days, all when browsing the Internet. I have read a couple threads in regards to the atikmdag errors. I currently have all up to date drivers (10-13-09), Mobo Bios, have ran test on my hardware etc.
I have ruled out faulty hardware and my GPU is running at or around 37c to 45c. I am not sure if this warning is result of a faulty driver from ATI? I am RMAing the card back to Newegg and will try one more, if the problem persist looks like I will go a different route.
