Pc Freezes After I Enter The Password
I bought W7 Ultimate edition a few days ago, and i tried to install it. after facing a lot of problems with the instalation ( had to take out all usb cables, also 2gb of ram so i have 1 left inside, in order to finish the instalation.) and now, finally, the instalation is finished. not to mention that somehow even though i chose to create the new copy of w7, my old XP is still installed. Beside that, i finally installed w7, and once w7 starts, i enter the password, 5 sec passes, and the whole pc freezes. I Read a bit on the forums and seen that some people advised to download newest video drivers, but it didint help. In safe mode, it runs perfectyl, but outside the safe mode, nothing works.

Enter Network Password
Have a dilemma here about this "Enter Network Password" issue. Been reading some of the other threads and tried some of the settings offered and still nothing seems to work. I'm not understanding why I have to enter a network password and where its coming from. Obliviously its from Windows 7. Also I'm assuming the enter network password is for the homegroup? I don't even have homegroup setup or enabled. If it was once setup and then disabled will the password prompt still pop-up? I'm currently using the work network as the network location, with password protect sharing off and under Homegroup connections use User Account and passwords. I have a windows server 03 running and all my comps can login with the 03 local account but windows 7 wont let me with out putting in a "Enter Network Password". I even tested this using XP on vmware bridged environment and it let me login. So I dont know what the deal is with Windows7.

Had To Enter Password Twice To Unlock Welcome Screen
When I unlocked my PC this morning, after entering my password once (where I would usually see my desktop) I was presented with a similar screen and had to enter my password again. I remoted in to my PC from home last night, but this is not uncommon and this is the 1st time I have seen this happen. Has anyone else seen this? We see this all the time logging onto a Windows 2008 terminal server farm, but this is the first time I've seen it when unlocking a Windows 7 PC directly.

Computer Will Not Enter Standby Automatically
I have a PC that I use as a media center attached to my TV running Windows 7 RC and it worked perfectly until about a week ago when I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 and placed them both in the same Homegroup. Every since then the Media Center will not enter standby mode either automatically, after 10 minutes as configured or from the MC remote control. To get it to enter standby I have to select "sleep" from the WMC "tasks" menu. As it only happened since creating the Homegroup I am assuming it is something to do with that, but I may be wrong. The MC PC is set to the "Balanced" power profile. Any ideas?

Enter Network Password In LAN
i've just reinstalled XP on my internet routing computer (i have dsl usb modem that's routed towards my laptop through a LAN card) and when i try to access the desktop resources i get an ënter network password" message. The shared drive is for everyone, i've even tried with firewall down, the laptop's Windows 7 that tries to access it sees it as a home network, all rights are allowed, file sharing services are on and all passwords are off. This never happened before using this combination of Windows 7/XP, but something similar happened a while back using Win 7/7 with a different behaviour.  The Aspire is the name of the laptop. Domains are turned off on both computers and they're in the same network. help?

Outlook 2003 On XP Migration To New Computer With Outlook 2007
I have an older laptop running XP and Office 2003. I just bought a new laptop running Windows 7 and will install Office 2007 (with Outlook) on it. I have searched the site and haven't found anything specific to this type of migration. I want all Outlook data to migrate. Will Outlook 2007 automatically recognize Outlook 2003 files? Can I just use the migration utility in accessories / system tools?

Export Outlook Express XP Into Outlook 2007
I have an old XP laptop which I was using Outlook Express for one of my mail accounts (a work account). I also ran regular Outlook for another (personal). I want to have both of these accounts on my new PC. My new PC is running Windows 7 wiht Office 2007. I used the Windows transfer cable and things worked failry well. My regular Outlook files all came over well, but nothing for Outlook Express. I really would like to take this time to somehow export my OE files into my Outlook 2007. I would really like to keep the account which imported in on Outlook seperate. Question 1: Is there a way to import my OE files into Outlook 2007? Question 2: Is there a way to have two seperate email accounts in Outlook without combining them? Basically I want to have a work email and a personal and keep them seperate. If I can't have two seperate emails with Outlook, can anyone suggest something which would allow me to export my old Outlook (the old personal emails) into another program so that I can at least use my work email on Outlook 2007?

Have To Enter WEP Key Every Time I Access Wireless Internet
I'm running Win 7 Home Premium on a desktop computer. There is only ONE user, me. I installed a wireless card. When I click on the icon to connect, I click the "connect" button, and every time I have to enter the WEP key. I've tried leaving the check box checked and unchecked where it says "connect automatically", but I still have to enter the key no matter which one is selected. I've searched all possible files and help sections and I can't find a way to keep it permanently entered. (I installed Win 7 on my laptop and it NEVER asks for the WEP key.) How do I get this to stop happening?

Drive Letters
Might not be a problem for a lot but I'm beginning to run out of letters for Networking disk drives on Windows systems. Once you start sharing multiple CD / DVD devices and multiple external devices (USB sticks, Ipods etc etc) and have may be 12 - 14 Virtual machines together with a decent TEST Bench set of real machines all up and running in a computer test lab this becomes a real pain. Isn't it about time to get rid of the C: type nomenclenture (originated way back in the 8 bit Intel 8086 MS DOS days or even before). Even the UNC system is pretty OK ( amemount) . I'm not sure what type of change would be needed to the file system but IMO the change is LONG LONG overdue. Why on earth we are still stuck with this system which has been around "Since Pontius was a Pilot" I can't imagine. It really wouldn't be a major problem to be compatable with earlier systems -- you could easily have a simple internal map say references to C: would be replaced by Mountpoint whenever the I/O was requested. Overhead would be very small. (In any case it's really time to change the NTFS system -- but that's another topic entirely which would be a bit more complex).

More Than 26 Drive Letters
I have a problem/challenge I need to solve. I have a computer with 16 drives connected at this moment. They all get the drive letters starting for F:. Now the eventual goal is to connect 32 drives/usb units to 1 computer. Little bit more info: I work at a company, and we need to flash units who are connected trough USB. Only problem at this moment is that the drive needs an drive letter. And because the alphabet ends with Z, I cannot connect anymore units. Is it possible to create more drive letters like AA: AB: or 0: 1: ?

Drive Letters, EasyBCD
Actually my computer is equipped with a 300GB drive as boot-device with two equal sized partitions on it to alternatively boot either Vista x64 (default at the moment) and Windows 7 x64 alternatively. It depends on which OS I boot, how both partitions get drive letters assigned: If I boot into Vista, the Vista partition gets drive letter C:, and the Windows 7 partition gets drive D: If I boot into Windows 7, that partition gets drive letter C: and Vista will become the D: (Just switching) But now I start to use EasyBCD 2.0, the Beta version, in Windows 7: After updating from Windows 7 Build 7100 to 7229 it shows me booting Vista from drive D: and Windows 7 from drive C: Before I did the update, the regular EasyBCD 1.72 shows when Vista is booted, to boot Vista from drive C: and Windows 7 from drive D: Is there anywhere out there a simple description on how the drive letters of startable devices are allocated? What about drive letters in BCD?

Importing Outlook Express Into Outlook 03
I just received my new laptop running windows 7 and I installed Outlook Mail 2003. I'm trying to import old outlook express mail (version 6) from my old laptop. Can someone tell me how to do this? On a related topic. Should I install Outlook 2007 on my computer instead of 2003? I chose the 2003 version as I have read reviews that Office 2007 is no good. I'm asking because I can see Microsoft releasing a new version of Office which would be more compatible 2007 than 2003.

Win7 Won't Start Up, Blue Screens And No Option To Enter SAFE MODE
I recently installed Window's 7 RC to temporarily replace Vista. Everything has been fine for couple months, then I used a tried and true program I used to use on Vista called "Auslogics" to help improve system speed. I used Auslogics Degrag, memory optimizer, but ran into problems after running "Registry Defrag". The program restarted the computer, began to defrag the registry, and then crashed to blue screen, dumped memory, and promptly restarted itself. Problems:1. There is no option for safemode. Only "Automatically repair" (which doesn't work) , or start normally (which goes straight to blue screen after splash) 2. It will NOT: recover disk. 3. System Restore is apparently not enabled on hard drive, and I wouldn't know how to enable without getting to desktop. 4. Image Recovery also does not work. Please, if anyone has any suggestions, I need advice on where to go from here!

Changing Default Drive Letters
A few days ago I decided to install windows 7 7100 on my newly built desktop, unfortunately a day later i get an error called 651, i looked around and found out that it is a bug so i am resorting to a more stable os (vista...but only for now) and i am trying to boot it from daemon tools becuz my dvd copy has trouble booting, but every time i try to install it, it keeps trying to install the OS on my system partition and gives me an error that says there is not enough space available. So my question is, how can i change the default drive letter that windows 7 gives to Daemon Tools?

Drive Letters Changed After Install
Decided to install Windows 7 Pro today but when the install completed, I noticed my drive letters were out of order. Previously, my partition drives when running Vista Home Premium were C: System D: Recovery E: Apps F: Data Now its automatically changed to C: System D: Apps E: Data F: Recovery My HP Recovery partition jumped down the list and changed from D to F and shifted the letters of the other drives as well. I have no idea why it changed on its own as I only installed Windows 7 in drive C. The Recovery drive is the 2nd fullest driver on my HD behind C Drive. Is this normal? Is there a fix for such a thing?

Changing Boot Drive Letters
Vista Ultimate 64bit / Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 64bit I successfully installed Windows 7 on a blank drive. The installation kept the drive letter "H" and name. Drive C: Is my Vista boot drive, and I'm done with it. My plan is to change it to some higher letter of the alphabet, then . Question I If I change my "G" drive (Windows 7 boot drive) letter to "C" with 'Disk Management' will all be well? Question II Will just deleting my Vista installation cause any problems with the Windows 7 installation?

Changing Drive Letters - Four Partitions
I have two HDs; on the first one (80 GBs), I have four partitions, with XP on C: (and this is the boot drive), then D:, E:, and finally Vista on F:. I have another HD, a 1 TB one, which I use for storage, and I have made a lot of partitions on it, generally about 100 GB each. When I ran the setup for 7, I selected a partition on the second drive which was labelled S:. After 7 installed, and I opened My Computer, I saw that everything was messed up, and 7 was now on C:. I know it doesn't mean it is physically on C:, it is still on the same partition of the second HD where I installed it, but it shows its partition as C:. I used Computer Management to change most of the drive letters so that they appear as they do in XP, but every time I try to change the drive letter of 7 from C: to S:, it gives an error, something about not allowed to change drive letter of system disk which has the pagefile. So is it at all possible to force change the drive letters so that 7 is shown on S: and XP on C:. I opened C: (the 7 installation) and found many text files in system folders and program files which point to locations on C:, so if I force a change from C: to S:, what happens to all of these - do they automatically change their paths to S:, or does the whole thing just go phut! I had the same problem when I installed Vista, but I didn't use it all that much, and so I didn't do anything about it, but I like 7, and unlike Vista which everyone said was an intermediate product until the next version came out, 7 is here to stay. I am ready to do another clean install if there is any way around this problem.

What Happens To Drive Letters When You Dual Boot ?
1. My machine has XP on a single hard drive w/ 3 partitions. In order to try Windows 7 the easiest thing for me to do is to install it on my E: partition. If I boot into Windows 7, do the drive letters change around or do the Windows 7 system files still show up as E:WINDOWS? Are there any downsides to this installation that I don't know about? If I got tired of Windows 7 would it be a problem to get rid of the bootloader? 2. My original plan was to buy a second hard drive, install it by itself, and load Windows 7 onto it. Then reconnect the original hard drive and dual boot by changing the boot order in the BIOS. What does this do to the drive letters? I would have one hard drive with 3 partitions and another hard drive with one partition. If I boot Windows 7 I'm guessing that its hard drive would become C: and the other hard drive would become D:, E: and F:. But what happens if I boot XP from the other hard drive? Does it stay C:, D: and E: and the second hard drive becomes F:, or do the letter scramble differently?

Drive Letters In Explorer Issue
With today's computers able to use multiple hard drives and/or multiple partitions, portable hard drives, USB flash drives, flash card readers, multiple optical drives (CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray disks), floppy drives, virtual hard drives and optical drives and other data devices, such as digital cameras, one can quickly go through 26 drive letters. It would be nice to just refer to drives through some other, expandable method.
