Outlook 2003 Not Opening Attachments?

Oct 16, 2012

For the last two years I have had no problems using Office 2003 in Windows 7. Now the Outlook program will not open any files created by Office 2007 or 2010. It did before, but now comes up with a error message as it tries to install an unknown program - "an error occurred when sending the command to the application" and then shuts down. A further message then shows indicating that WDVIEWER.cab is not available. So I downloaded and installed this but it is still not found.

Word 2010 Is Opening Word 2003 Attachments?

Feb 20, 2012

I normally use Word 2003 for documents, although I use Outlook 2010. This morning I opened a Word 2010 document and after quite a while of some sort of an installation, I was able to open the Word 2010 document. I did not think too much of it, except that later I was sending an e-mail and attached a Word 2003 document and when I went to check it (i.e. open it up) it opened in Word 2010. How do I disable Word 2010 as my default program to open Word documents. I do not want to uninstall the program, but at this point I am not ready to learn how to use Word 2010.

Opening Attachments From Web-based Email Are Saved In Temp Location

May 25, 2012

As above, if a user opens say a Word document which is an attachment on a web-based mail system like hotmail or outlook live and the user then just clicks SAVE, the document is saved to a temporary location.

We have lots of users who are doing this and then finding that they have lost there work etc as they have assumed it was saving to a network drive or even back to the attachment (yes I know thats wrong, but students don't always know till its too late).

So my question is, is there any way of getting Word to prompt them to save the document to somewhere when they click SAVE, rather than save it in a temp area under the temporary files area on the C: drive??

Is it possible to do with a Group Policy setting or any other way round not saving the doc in temp area and forcing the user to choose the location.

Importing Address Book From Outlook Express Under XP To MS Outlook 2003 In Windows 7

Nov 20, 2012

Having successfully moved my address book (.WAB format) to w7 and converted it to .CSV format I can get as far as "Select the Contacts folder that you want to import to" as in the website [URL] but when I click "next" the box is blank where a Contacts folder should be. In outlook 2003 I have some contacts which I added manually to address book so there should be an address book of some sort.

Outlook 2003 - Any .PST File Operation Crashes Outlook (windows 7-64)?

Dec 27, 2011

whatever i try to do on my outlook that has to do with .PST file management results in a crash where outlook quitsif i go to control panel > mail settings > data files 2 of the files that are in use (& work) do not show up, one of them the default mail delivery .PST. in these two, trying to access the advanced properties gives an error:The operation failed. An object could not be found.now - general googling tells me that recreating the profile could perhaps fix this - but i would love to avoid that as there's no manageable UI to set up the email accounts and there's many in use.event log on trying to open a pre-existing .PST that's not in the current profile:

Outlook 2007 Slow Throughput For Attachments?

Jan 15, 2013

Ok so is no confusion the issue isnt a slow connection to the mail server or slow to submit email it is a low throughput. Since normal emails are tiny they go fast but if I eg. send a 1meg file over smtp email it is slower than eg. ftp.My connection is 20mbit upload so approx 2.4mbytes upload so no confusion. So my web server which I manage is my primary email server, it also has ftp as a transfer protocol. As well as a webmail interface.

If I upload the file to the ftp it uses all my upstream bandwidth. If I send an email with the file as an attachment using webmail it uploads and is sent in under a second.
If I send the email via smtp using outlook it sends at around 200kB/sec.

The following all have no affect on the speed other than stated.

Disabling a/v
Changing the smtp port.
Disabling tls/ssl.
Enabling ctcp increases the speed to 250kB/sec, which is still hideous barely over 10% of my possible speed.

I havent tried another email client such as outlook express or thunderbird, or outlook 2010.

I suspect the issue is that outlook is hardcoded to a small tcp send buffer as a typical end user doesnt have a fast upload connection when outlook 2007 was developed. If so is there a way to tune it higher (or is it really hardcoded non tunable) or is there other ideas to speed it up.

Windows 7 X64 Computer Slows Down On Opening MS Office 2003 Stuff

Jun 12, 2010

Whenever I open anything from microsoft office 2003, that can be outlook, that can be a word document, that can be a powerpoint presentation or an excel sheet, my windows 7 taskbar and the computer in general slow down considerably, but expecially the taskbar lags for at least 3 seconds whatever I do (like moving the pointer over several icons so that the aero-thingy shows up takes 5 seconds to pop up the little windows or opening a new explorer window). So when did it all start? At first everything was fine, office 2003 was running fine with w7x64, then I installed the cisco system vpn client (64bit of course) because i need it for university. After that the problem occured and I haven't been able to make it go away since then.

1. I uninstalled the vpn client -> no changes
2. I uninstalled office 2003 and reinstalled -> no changes
3. Office is updated with the latest patch -> no changes
4. I tried to turn of aero (who knows?) -> no changes

It even downloads new emails without problems. I used the installation disk to see if I could do a repair but my system hangs when trying to do a repair or re-install. I used the control panel and removed the complete office package and reinstalled but it stills hangs when I try accessing my emails.I have to restart my computer in order to get Outlook to close. All other office programs seem to work with no problems.

Outlook 2003 Hang Ups In Windows 7

May 28, 2011

Outlook 2003 works fine on my computer with Windows 7 - except for one annoyance. When I first open Outlook, it loads immediately. However, when I exit (using the red X), and then try to reopen Outlook, it hangs up. When I use CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, I find two instances of Outlook running! If I end the process on the one using the most memory, Outlook then opens immediately. I am having a similar problem with Windows Media Player. Again, it's not a majopr problem but a real nuisance.

Unable To Start Outlook 2003

Oct 22, 2012

I set up Outlook and my email account details, and Outlook's test message was received successfully (by Windows Live Mail).

But then when I tried to start Outlook, I got this error message: Microsoft Office Outlook Unable to open your default e-mail folders. "Outlook could not start because a data file to send and receive mail could not be found. To add a data file, such as a personal folder file, double-click the Mail icon in Windows Control Panel".

I tried this but the only options open to me were modifying the mail settings I'd just set, or Change settings for the files Outlook uses to store e-mail messages and documents.

When I tried this by clicking the Data Files button there was no pst file listed. When I clicked Add, it is empty.

Outlook 2003 Hangs On My Computer

I Installed Office 2003 SP3 on my new Windows 7 x64 last week and it seemed to initially run ok. Over the last few days I've had a problem with Outlook where it hangs, seemingly at random. I've tried uninstalling the Windows updates and re-installing the entire package with the same problem. It doesn't generate any specific error message so I'm not sure what to try next.

Outlook 2003 Displays One Recipient In Text Only

I've been having an issue with Outlook 2003. I've had to rebuild my computer, and in doing so, reloaded Office 2003 and I use Outlook as my email reader. For some reason, when Outlook 2003 downloads One (1) particular recipient, it converts their emails to text only. 100's of others come in as HTML and I have no issues with their emails?

This occurred after the rebuild. When I received emails from this person prior to the rebuild their emails came in just fine as HTML. Nothing was changed to the best of my knowledge?
