Optical Drive Problems
I recently installed windows 7 professional on my system and now my optical drive is acting weird. The drive will run CDs just fine (I can install and rip. haven't tested burning), but it will have nothing to do with DVDs. When I put a DVD in it, it doesn't do anything. After a while, if I go to my computer and double click on the disk drive, the optical drive will eject the disk and say "Please insert disk". I have looked in the device manager and it says the driver is working properly. I have tried looking into the "regedit" and the upper and lower filters aren't there.Â
I have tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting so that windows installs them (no luck). I have also tried starting with the driver signature enforcement disabled but nothing happens. My ODD is a (SATA) Samsung Sh-S223Q in case you wanted to know. One thing that i noticed that I thought was odd was that my device manager had 2 drivers for my Optical Drive. They are HCB JGPYF*X SCSI CdRom Device and TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223Q ATA Device. I have a virtual drive (daemon tools lite) installed but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.Â

Optical Drive Issues
It seems as though my two optical dvd-rom & dvd-ram drives are working only intermittently, since loading windows 7 64 ultimate from vista 64 ultimate. While there are many drivers that I have saved as downloads plus those that can be found online there are drivers that are only available via disk, so having the optical drives consistently function properly is of the utmost importance. Anyone with any suggestions are solutions please let us all know your thoughts.

Thumbnails And Optical Drive Problem
I know how to disable thumbnails system wide and this is not what I want to do. The problem my system is having is when I place a disc such as an SVCD in the drive and want to copy one of the files. When I go into the folder with the videos, Windows tries to make thumbnails of all the files or at least it tries to gather information on them. The problem is that since it's an optical disc, there is only one laser, so there is a very long explorer.exe freeze while it tries to do so. I guess it is reading a little of each file at a time and trying for all of them at once. Is there a tweak or a setting I can change without affecting videos stored on the HDDs?

Optical Drive Disappears When Rebooting
Rebooting disappears the optical drive when attempting to view it by clicking on "Computer." It also disappears from "devices." However, shutting down and starting does not affect the system in any way. Hence, when I'm instructed to reboot, I now simply shut down and start rather than reboot. I haven't been able to find out the source of this problem. You should know that this is a desktop with a very small form factor; i.e., mini ITX with an Atom and the optical drive is a slim laptop optical drive with an adapter for use on a desktop setup.

LG Optical Drive Disappears From Device List
I have a HTPC with dual boot WinXP and Win7 RC7100. I have a problem with my optical drive in Win7, but the problem does not occur in WinXP. Problem Description: On booting up the system the optical drive works fine and appears in My Computer and the Device manager. At some point (usually within three minutes of bootup) the drive disappears from My Computer and the Device manager â it just vanishes⦠There are no errors or windows explaining why it happens, there are no errors shown in the event logs either around the time it occurs. Once the drive âdisappearsâ the tray cannot be opened by the button on the drive and it isnât redetected if you run the search for new devices gizmo. If you just leave it in that state, periodically the drive light flashes and there is a clicking noise. In the event logs it shows an error âdrive not readyâ. The error repeatedly appears sometimes every few seconds for a few minutes. It then stops and might not do it again for hours, or might start again in a few minutes. Whilst all this is going on, the drive still doesnât show in device manager and you cant eject the tray by the switch⦠I would suspect a faulty drive, but as I said above it works completely fine in WinXP. I have tried stripping the machine of any added software, which didnât take long as all I have is Kaspersky AV, PowerDVD and software for the LCD on my Antec case. The drive in question is an LG GGC-H20L (Sata CD/DVD Writter, Blu-Ray Reader). I have tried searching on the net for others with the same problem as me, but surprisingly mostly I found people saying their same model drive works fine on Win7. On the other hand the couple of people I did find with similar problems both stated that LG had refused to help them saying they wouldnât support Win7 until it was released. The closest thread to my problem I could find on here was this one: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/1a40914b-d90d-4d0f-b228-942d8880218e At the moment I can only see a few options: 1. Buy another drive from a different manufacturer and hope for the best. 2. Wait for Win7 to be released and hope that LG fix the problem with a driver update. Any advice or ideas on how to solve this without resorting to the two options above would be much appreciated. Â

Explorer Optical Drive Default To Open Not Play
I'm running Windows 7 build 7077. I've messed around with all the autostart/autoplay settings I can find. But I can't find a way to change my optical drive default in Explorer from Play to Open(as in explore the folders not play the video.) It's just a nuisance to forget, double click, get the error(because I have WMP disabled in local security policy) then right click on the drive icon and click Open. Life would be easier if I could just double-click it!! Anyone know the secret?

Upgrade Problems From Vista, No Optical Drive Detected
I am having major problems upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista. I have an HP dv3 with Windows Vista 64-bit. I am using the HP upgrade disc with the upgrade option. I first ran into problems when the Windows 7 disc told me that some components would not be installed properly, namely that I needed to upgrade my keyboard filter driver. I did what I was told and when I tried to re-start the upgrade process the disc told me that I would need to re-start my computer. I did that and when it re-started, a message from HP popped up saying that my optical drive was no longer connected and that I needed to re-connect it in order for the upgrade to continue. So now my optical drive is not reading anything and I do not know what has happened or how to even fix it.

Disappearing Optical Drives
I am using Windows 7 RC and I have two identical LG DVD internal drives on my quad core system, When I boot up sometimes both drives show up in the drives list and are accessible. Then one or both drives will simply disappear. Right now, one drive shows up and it contains a disc but when I click on the drive letter the system goes into an endless loop and the drive light never lights up. I even closed down, rebooted and only the one drive showed up and I still cannot access it. The disc is good because I have a laptop and two other XP systems that will read it. Also, when a drive doesn't show up on the drive list, pressing the eject button on the drive does nothing. It seems to indicate a lack of power to the drive but it isn't consistent. Additionally, the drive that shows up does show the correct volume ID for the disc but just hangs with the little "busy" icon on the screen instead of returning with a disc directory.

I am using the Windows 7 RC and when the computer returns from the screensaver or sleep mode my optical mouse intermittently (the majority of the time) doesn't work until I unplug it and then plug it back in. Â Is this a USB problem? Â Or is it something I need to change in my Windows settings (i.e. power, screensaver, etc...)?

Odd Mouse Behavior (MS Optical 3000)
Win 7 64 Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 (USB) (IntelliPoint) Driver: 6.31.236.0 12/4/2008 I'm experiencing odd behavior from my mouse, all involving the wheel. Web pages (Firefox), windows boxes with scroll bars, this webpage & forum, MS Office etc.. work perfectly. But 2 apps, there are a couple more I just can't remember from work :) the wheel operates badly. iTunes & Steam. iTunes: The wheel appears to not work at all for scrolling at first. But if I really flick scroll it really quickly, it will move. Sometimes just a little, sometimes many pages. The Steam 'browser' does the same thing. Both have been deleted and reinstalled several times. Same operation when I switched to Win7 32bit briefly, back on 64 now. I believed at first the mouse was just going flakey and needed a new one. But it works fine just about everywhere and I would probably wouldn't bother this forum with it if I didn't have 700 albums on my iTunes. That's a heck of alot of 'clicks' when browsing the library. I grabbed an old mouse out of the junk drawer, and the wheel on that works fine everywhere, including iTunes. I can't remember the driver that Win loaded for it, it was something generic. UIC Compliant Mouse or something similar. I've played around with all settings available in control panel for this mouse. Nothing seems to help. Since the problem seems to be consistant with certain apps, it leads me to believe it isn't the hardware, but do I have a 2 year old at home. So some kind of sticky, prolonged heavy stress might have been applied to it while I wasn't looking... So, Hardware or Software?

Sata Optical Drives Not Working (Code 52)
Can't seem to get my 2 SATA dvdr drives installed. Before I installed windows 7 the compatibility checker said: These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. After the upgrade completes, check Windows Update for updated drivers or go to the device manufacturer's website. Storage controllers: SCSI/RAID Host Controller I didn't know that this would mean my SATA drives. Under device manager it shows the drives, but there's a yellow caution triangle and when double clicked it says: "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)" under status. I have tried uninstalling the drivers, unplugging the drives, nothing works. It's an ASUS M2N - SLI Deluxe board w/AMD 5600 Athlon 64 processor Drive 1: LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1L SCSI CdRom Device Drive 2: TSST corp CDDVDW SH-S223F SCSI CdRom Device

Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 1000 Issue
Basically the mouse keeps "unplugging" and "plugging" continually . It's a real hassle to try to do anything when the mouse is doing this constantly. There has been no other mouse installed ( clean install of OS ), so I don't think it can be a driver conflict. In fact, the mouse doing this was one reason I re-installed fresh over my first OS install which was just the "upgrade" option. And I tried other mice on the previous install and they were having the same problem, so it's not hardware specific. Any thoughts?

Optical Drives No Longer Work After Clean Install Completes
I performed a clean install of Windows 7 (Build 7100) to an internal SATA hard drive from disc using my internal drive, completed all updates and then restarted my system. Updated Bios and checked all changeable bios settings upon start up. I went to my device manger and I have 2 errors I can not seem to fix. My wireless is not a necessity but would be nice if it worked (ASUS 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Card) has a code 10. Biggest issue and why I am on here is now my DVD/CD-ROM now has a code 39 (Memorex DVD+ -Ram 530L) I after verifying the firmware/drivers were up to date from the Memorex and Microsoft site I tried swapping drives. I shut down then R/R a different drive (Pioneer DVD 114LG), then did same driver/firmware checks still (Code 39 error). So once again I shut down then R/R a different drive (ASUS DRW 21B1S), then did same driver/firmware checks still (Code 39 error) Also tried another free IDE connection on my Motherboard, using drive solo tried different cables, tried different pin settings (master/slave/cable select) Swapping HD and DVD location and setting pin accordingly (Master on end device slave on other) I also have IDE to USB converter so I was able to try all 3 DVD drives separately on another PC to verify they all work with no issues. I tried all 3 on this computer through USB and get the same code 39 error, I have tried uninstalling and deleting all drivers for the devices as well. Right now under DVD/CD-ROM drives. I have the Memorex connected internal (IDE) and it has code 39, and also the Pioneer is connected (USB) and it has error Code 39. Only extra storage (a 500gb drive and a 300gb drive) is also connected through IDE and they work correctly with no errors no matter how the DVD seems to be configured. Previous OS Windows 7beta system ran great with exception of audio and internal wireless. I eventually disabled both of them and used an external USB wireless and a USB audio dongle for those services.Windows 7 evaluation copy Build 7100 System: ASUS TeK Computer inc. Motherboard P5GD2 (Premium) American Megatrends version 1009.003CPU: Socket 775 P4 2.80GH, RAM 4.0gb 32bit opersting SystemExternal Clock 200MHz, Max Speed 3600MHz, Current Speed 2800MHz

Intellimouse Optical USB - Intermittant Reset / Cannot Find BT Mouse
Ok here is something for someone to figure out. I have an Intellimouse Optical USB (P/N X05-48976) connected to my Dell D/Dock via USB. The Notebook is a Dell D620 4GB Ram, 2.0G Dual-core Processor. I am dual booting Windows XP and Windows-7 RC. When using XP, the mouse works flawlessly. When running under Windows-7, the mouse intermittenly "disconnects". I do not see a USB disconnect, but instead looks more like a complete driver reset. The mouse goes completely dark for about 5-10 seconds, then comes back on and is fine for about 1 min, then goes dark for 5-10 sec, then back on. It is VERY annoying. I installed the latest Intellimouse software I could find and the problem persists. Also I have a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 (P/N X807028-001) that works flawlessly in XP, but fails to be found in Windows-7. The W7 bluetooth found my cell phone OK, but will not find my mouse. BT Radio is Dell Bluetooth 350.

Microsoft Optical Comfort Mouse 3000 Scrolling Problems
I've read where other people have had problems with this mouse's driver not working correctly in Win7, but I've also read posts where people say there is a driver specifically for Win7 (which I can't find). When I try to scroll in things like CDisplay or other programs, the mouse won't scroll properly. It will either not scroll at all or will require me to act like I'm scrolling VERY fast to move a small distant on the actual page. Has this been fixed yet? I know I read that the problem only seems to be present with Microsoft Mice, so I thought they'd have taken care of it asap but I still read posts where people have problems with them. So, what can I do to fix the scrolling problem? (Even if I lose the intellipoint functions like magnifying) Edit: Forgot to mention there is NO Win7 Driver for my 3000 model, but there is one for the 1000 model, should I try the 1000 driver?
