Only 1 CPU Showing In Device Mgr. On Dual Socket System

Performed a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on a Dual Socket PIII system with 2 Intel PIII 1ghz processors on Asus motherboard that has a VIA chipset.

In the Device Mgr., under the Processors heading, it only lists one Intel Processor. At the least, it should list 2 Intel Processors to reflect the 2 physical processors mounted in the 2 physical CPU sockets. When WinXP Pro SP3 was installed on this same computer, it did show 2 processors in the Device Mgr., and I believe Win 7 should as well. I have several other Dual socket workstations with Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate installed on them, and they show 4 processors in Device Mgr, for the
2 physical and 2 virtual Hyper Threading processors.

Does anyone have any idea why only one processor is being detected and/or reflected in the Device Mgr.? Do I need to install some Chipset drivers? Or should Windows 7 have installed drivers for the chipset?

CPU Upgrade - Socket 462
Does any one know what good upgrades I could get for Socket 462? I am clueless and what not, as this machine is VERY slow and I can't get many tasks done on it, since it's CPU is way to slow. Any processors built for performance and reliable? Any suggestions?

P.S. My current CPU usage when I finished boot up and IE is running.

Network Adapter Not Showing In Device Manager
I upgraded from XP to Windows 7. There was no network adapter listed in the device manager at first. I went into add legacy hardware, and first it gave me options for Intel and Microsoft adapters. Playing with that, I finally got an Unknown Device to show in Device Manager. I was able to select a manufacturer for it (Nvidia), so now I have the Nvidia nForce Network Controller showing in my Device manager, with a yellow exclamation sign on it.

The error message is This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. I have tried downloading the most recent drivers (15.51), same result. I tried the drivers that were slightly older (both 15.35 and 15.23) and same results. I have tried going into the windows.old for the drivers when it was on XP, and same result. I have a wired connection.  Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

The adapter is a Nvidia nForce 5 series.

Second Hard Drive Showing In Bios, But Not In Device Manager
I just installed a new HDD (Samsung 1.5TB Silencer Series 32M) today, when i was running windows 7 RC1 64bit just plugged it in and worked fine, formated it with device manager and the works. So, I coppied my important files from my main hard drive(Western Digital Velociraptor 300gig) onto the new one. Once that was done I did a fresh install of Windows 7 This time it was Ultimate 64 bit seeming I just bought it.

When I went to install windows 7, it didnt show the new Hdd there but I thought what the heck, i was going to be installing it on my old HDD anyways. So, Ive now installed windows 7 but My second hard drive is no were to be found. Its showing up in Bios tho in sata port 9 where it is connected. but its not showing up anywhere else ?

Play To Device Error / Libraries Are Showing Up Empty
Media is not fine yet.

When i try to use Play To another device (different Windows 7 pc) it fails. (failed to retrieve media information)

The WMP instances are seeing each other and the libraries are showing up, but no Play to

The libraries are also showing up but, they are all empty, except pictures and video's.

Could this be caused by indexing, perhaps i first need to leave all my Pc's on with Media Player running until the index blackboxes are done withe there indexing magic.

IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers Not Showing Up In Device Manager
IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers not showing up in Device Manager after Windows 7 upgrade. Since upgrading to Windows 7 my firewire ports are not working. I thought I maybe needed to update some drivers for this, but when I went to the device manager I noticed it didn't even list the IEEE Bus Host Controller as an option.

Then, stranger still, for whatever reason when I started up my computer a couple mornings after upgrading, it recognized them and gave me the option to capture video from my video camera. However, after 30 minutes everything froze and when I started the computer up again, it was again not showing up in the device manager.

Computer: Compaq CQ5107C PC
OS: Upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
AMD Athlon X2 7550
320 GB Hard Drive
3 GB system memory

Any thoughts?

32, 64 Bit And Dual Quad CPU
I have the 32 bit Windows 7 on my computer because it seems to work better than the 64 bit. However like any computer geek I want the 64 bit and with a removable Hard Drive I can put the 64 bit on the other Hard Drive. Once I get tired of my 32 bit I'm sure I'll build the 64 bit but once I do this I don't think Microsoft is going to like it if I plug in my 32 bit once I register the 64 bit? What do you think?

Now I want to build a new computer but what good is the quad? Does any software run on it using all 4 CPU's?

Problem Controlling Use Of Dual Cpu In Various Programs
I am running BOINC 64-bit in Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. When running projects such as Seti At Home, using a dual-cpu machine, I should be able to adjust a setting in BOINC "preferances" that control whether the system uses 1 cpu or both Cpu's.

I am so far, unable to use both cpu's. As a side note, when I run Task Manager it shows ruffly equal activity in Both CPU windows even thomy BOINC Program reports that I am only using one of them.

I also use Grid Republic to control the settings since I am running more than just Seti At Home.  Grid Republic is a sub program that can be utilized to control BOINC when a user wants to devide machine time into two or more "tasks".

Also, using Grid Republic is supposed to control how all machines on my home network are utilized.  It matters not what setting changes I make, This system simply will not allow me to use both CPU's according to BOINC. Currently there are three machines utilized but only one of them is a Dual Core machine.

Does anyone know of settings within Windows 7 Enterprise that would place an internal control limiting CPU usage to 1 at a time?  If so please let me know so I can begin to utilize the true potential of this wonderful machine.

Win 7 64 Bit Fails On Dual CPU Setup
I have a Supermicro X8DA3 motherboard, with dual Xeon X5550 CPU's - both same stepping model. Each has 4 cores and Hyper-threading enabled.  12GB ram per processor. I can install Win7 Pro 64bit onto the system when only ONE CPU is installed - works flawlessly - shows 8 cpus under Device Manager (ie 4 cores + 4 hyperthreads)  At no stage can I get Win7Pro or Ultimate 64bit to install when the two physical processors are in place.  System will just power down at during the install process.

It is not a Power Supply issue as I have tried a 1200W PSU and the same power down happens. When the second CPU is added it is just shutting down the system (ie power off). Once the CPU is added, it is turned on, Windows 7 boots up normally (as it still thinks it only has 1 CPU) so the log on screen comes up and you can login.  The desktop appears and as per normal Windows behaviour, it realises new hardware has been added (ie the 2nd CPU and all its cores with HyperThreading - another 8) so it installs the devices.  Then the ubiquitous "Restart Now/Restart Later" pops up as a result.  I choose "restart later" the system will quite happily run as it did.

Choosing "restart now" - it goes through its shutdown procedure normally as per Windows, then starts its reboot.  On the reboot it will POST completely normally (does everytime) starts loading win7 and then the fun starts. Sometimes it will get to the login screen, sometimes to a different point - this is the stage win7 is loading its drivers - that is why I'm starting to think there must be a problem with a system driver.

Obviously Win7 seems to be unable to handle more than 8 processors in the system (ie 2 x 4core, or 1 x 4core + 4 hyperthreaded) It must be a MS OS system issue with a MS provided driver as I can boot the system up (with 2 physical CPU's installed) into SAFE Mode.  Safe Mode works fine, system boots, shows all CPU's available (all cores and hyperthreads).  Just a normal bootup will get to differing points and just power down the system. Win7 64bit will NOT install from scratch onto a clean disk while 2 physical CPU's are in place !

Dual Monitor Showing Black Bars On TV (top, bot,R,L)
I have a home built Rig. Running Windows 7 RC 7100. Very happy with it. I just had a DVI/HDMI adapter, 15ft HDMI 1.3 cable and a 20ft coax cable delivered. MONOprice.com for the win on those(less than $20 delivered in less than a week)

Anywayz, I set up the cables and all to my Toshiba 37" LCD 37HL67 and the coax to my reciever. audio is working. And even the dual monitor set-up thru Windows 7 works great. However, I am having a "desktop fitting the FULL screen" problem.

It is showing black barz top, bottom, left, and right. Not fitting the complete screen. My TV res is 1366x768. which i have win 7 set to. it seems to be the fullest on the entire screen. But not completely. It does not matter if i make it the main mont or not. Wont change. My GPU is a ASUS 4830 from Newegg(another winner ).

I do have the latest drivers and even tried to play with the CCC and started seeing problems becasue i was doing a trial and error sesh and i stopped quickly. I am not PC inept but I am not the most savy creature either. This one is beyond me at this point.

Program Usage = 100% CPU But CPU = 10% When Idle
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with 1 gb of ram, 80 gb harddrive, 2.4 ghz intel celeron and a nvidia geforce 6200 graphics card with a clean install. Everything runs fine with no driver issues and 2.8 processor rating.

I also turned Aero off - using Aero Basic but thats not causing it. It idles betwenn 5-7% and 46% memory. But, whenever I open or use any program the cpu usage hits 100% and slows the program down.
When I leave the program idle it goes back down but when I use it, it goes back up.

Open Windows Media Play, hits 100% then back down. Try to watch a move, goes to 100%.  While playing the file, drops to 80%-100% With IE8, idle fine, open new tab or window or change sites 100%. The same with other non window programs - winrar, process explorer, dixv player, real player.
ANY program uses 100% during usage but much lower when said program is idle.

Does anyone know what is causing my Cpu to yoo-yoo like this?

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed
In Device Manger under "Other Devices" there is an entry titled "Base System Device." The message is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." Also "pci bus 9, device 3, function 2" appears. Needless to say, the "Update Driver Software" nor the Sony Support Website seem to list any drivers.

However, everything seems to work but perhaps I haven't used whatever function this driver runs. I'm running a Sony laptop, Model VGN-FW351J. 2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded.Any suggestions to update (or install) the driver will be greatly appreciated.
