No Internet With Upgrade Of Vista To Win7
I have a MSI K8N Neo2 mobo with a nvidia nForce 3 Ultra chipset which functioned perfectly from the get-go with a clean install of Vista Ultimate. I didn't have to jump through hops to find drivers since everything was included on the disk.
 When I do an upgrade to Windows 7, I can't connect to the internet through the onboard ethernet. I thought I read somewhere that the Vista drivers should work with Windows 7.
Does anyone have internet access using the K8N mobo, or a similar mobo?

I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Will I Be Able To Upgrade To Win7 From Vista ?
I am ready to buy a new dell computer which ships with Vista SP1 64 bit premium. I have heard great things about Windows 7 and want that operating system. If I buy my system today, will I be able to upgrade to Windows 7 for free when it starts shipping from Dell, or should I just wait to purchase?

Cannot Upgrade From Vista To Win7
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Service Pack 1. I downloaded the ISO of Windows 7 RC 1 and used Nero 9 to burn a DVD. Using both the DVD to perform and upgrade and copying the contents of the DVD to a separate hard drive and performing an upgrade from there, I get the following error:"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8000FFFF" I'm pretty sure both the DVD and the hard drive sources are clean and free of physical errors Any thoughts?

Vista To Win7 Upgrade Just Keeps Rebooting Over And Over
My upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium seemed to go ok. All five steps were completed but when Windows attempts to boot a message along the bottom of the new Windows screen says the installation was not successful, the previous version of Windows will be restored and not to restart the computer during this time. However Vista never gets restored and the Starting Windows screen appears again and goes through the same cycle. So I don't know now if I have any operating system. Windows 7 won't boot and there is no sign that Windows Vista has been restored. It seems obvious that I should power down the computer but I'm not sure I'd be able to boot up again.

I do NOT want to reinstall all of my applications (and possibly cannot) after switching to Windows 7! This could take days. I am currently running Windows XP. It appears that Windows 7 will not install over Windows XP and keep everything running. It is possible to upgrade from Windows XP to Vista and keep all of your applications intact. Win 7 documentation implies that it is possible to upgrade from Vista to Win 7 and not lose your applications.Is the easy way to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 to first go from XP to Vista and then Vista to Win 7?

How To Remove Vista After Upgrade To Win7 ?
I finally upgraded computer from Vista to Windows 7. MAJOR IMPROVEMENT. However I still have Vista on computer, as when I reboot it gives me the option to run Windows 7 or Vista. I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I no longer need to use Windows Vista of course. And if I am correct it is taking up memory on CPU. Drive CÂ has 24.3 GB available of 62.4GB. And Drive D has 322MB available of 9.99GB. So I would like to clear more space by removing Vista.Can someone please explain in detail, step by step how to properly remove Windows Vista from computer. I have only found articles how to remove Vista to go back to XP. I hope I do not have to reinstall Windows 7 all over again!

Upgrade Win7 From Vista (both 64 Bit)
I think I may have jumped the gun buying the Win7 Upgrade during the half off sale a few months ago. I'm running Vista64 on a XPS laptop and just received the Win7 Upgrade product today. Now I read that no upgrade in place exists for 64bit os's. Right? If I'm wrong there, then no need to answer the rest. If that is true, can I dual boot Vista/Win7? A book I bought on Win7 shows a way to use the upgrade product to do a complete clean install, so I could do the dual boot. If I am forced to use dual boot, will I need to reinstall all apps or can I use one of the migration tools to give Win7 access to the all the apps I already have installed? If I'm forced to reinstall all apps, how will apps like Office treat this install? In other words, would it consider itself as two installs? (1 vista, 1 Win7) If instead a complete clean install is required, again, does anyone know how Office would treat the reinstall?

Vista To Win7 Upgrade Promotion
I recently bought a Windows Vista laptop with 4GB of ram which was covered by the free upgrade to windows 7 promotion. I have sent off for and received the Windows 7 media. After this I learnt the difference between 32 and 64 bit operating systems and discovered I have a new laptop which can't use all the RAM it was sold with. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor shows the laptop only able to use 3.1GB of the installed RAM!  Who should I contact to get a 64 bit version of Windows 7 so that my laptop can use all of its installed RAM? There is no mention of receiving the 32 bit version of Windows on Amazon where I purchased the laptop.  Alternatively can I use the product key I have received with the 32 bit media for a custom install with borrowed/"purchased and then returned" windows 7 64 bit media on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5536G)? Is there any legal technical or moral reason not to do this? I have checked the Laptop with the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it says my laptop meets all the technical specifications.  As a final resort I would return it as not suitable for purpose as it has been sold with an operating system which can't use all the installed RAM. I expected a laptop to be sold in a state so that it can use all installed RAM. Are there any other options open to me short of returning the laptop as I am not willing to pay for a second licence to use windows 7 – especially as all information I have found published by Microsoft states that both versions 32 bit and 62 bit would be supplied.

I have both Vista Ultimate 32 and 64 bit with Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade coming after release. Is it allowed to install the Vista 32 bit in one machine and the Vista 64bit in another machine and then upgrade each? These were gotten when purchasing my system hardware for a new build. Just want if it is legal to use both copies or if I can only use one of the version even though both keys are different? Or if the keys are someway connected.

Unexpected Error During Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I got Windows 7 for Christmas yesterday, so I was all excited and started to install it last night. I did the compatibility checker and there were no major issues, just some minor ones that seemed innocuous, so I proceeded. The install process was pretty seamless until I got to a point about 3/4ths through where an error message popped up. You guys are probably familiar with this so far. The message says an unexpected error has occurred.. etc, etc. When I restart my computer, I get the same thing. When I boot from the install disk, it asks me to pick a language to install and all that, but when I choose to install Windows 7 it tells me it cannot find drivers or something to that effect, and there's a choice to browse or cancel. It appears I'm caught in between Vista and Windows 7 and neither of them are useable. I can't get to either of them. The Roll Back option simply doesn't work, for whatever reason, and here I am, caught in Windows Purgatory. Any help would be very appreciated. Keep in mind I am on a laptop, not my desktop which is experiencing these issues.

i bought a new computer (dell optiplex 330) in dec, 2008, with a configuration called "vista premium downgrade relationship." basically, what this means is that the computer came with XP/SP3 installed but that i have a separate disk that will install vista instead if i decide i want to (i can't remember if it uninstalls the XP or exactly what happens with the XP if i do switch to vista). what i haven't been able to figure out from the articles that i have read is whether, with programs that will be available either now or when win7 is formally released, i can upgrade to win7 -- (1) directly from my currently-installed XP, or (2) by switching from XP to vista by means of the vista installation disk that i have, and then upgrading to win7 from there, or (3) either one, and if so which route is the least hassle and the least likely to bollix up my computer. or maybe i should start from scratch -- scrap both XP and vista from this computer, and just install a clean win7? does anyone know about this issue?

I have vista installed on a seperate 500gb hard drive. I keep all my media stored on 4tb of other harddrives separately. they are setup as dynamic disks spanned together. Once I upgrade will those drives still work properly and will I loose any data?

Upgrade From X86 Vista To X64 Win7
I plan to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium x86 to Windows Seven Home Premium x64 when it is released. However, I only want to pay for an upgrade license, NOT a full price version. My current version of Vista Home Premium is itself an upgrade from the original OEM copy of XP that came on my PC. There are two ways as far as I can see: i) Vista Home Premium x86 > Vista Home Premium x64 > Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (first stage done using an alternate media which I have just paid GBP 7 to be delivered shortly. ii) Vista Home Premium x86 > Windows 7 Home Premium x86 > Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (first stage using an x86 retail upgrade, second stage using alternate media obtained after buying the retail x86 package). However, looking at the following article: Installation choices for 64-bit consumer versions of Windows Vista it reveals that the steps are likely to be even more complex. For example, my option i) becomes:Uninstall Vista altogether Reinstall my original Dell x86 copy of XP Home Edition. Use the Vista alternative media to do an upgrade installation of Vista Home Premium x64. Then do an upgrade installation of Windows x64 on top of that. Extremely messy, and almost certain to end in tears! It would be nice if MS took the opportunity to provide a straightforward upgrade path from x86 to x64 this time around; until we know the upgrade options no one knows for sure I guess. However, does anyone know or suspect an easier method? For example, with my x86 copy of Vista Home Premium in situ, could I install a clean copy of Vista Home Premium x64 on another partition by booting from the DVD, and then just do an upgrade install of Windows 7 x64 when it become available?

VISTA Upgrade To Win7 Problem - Failure
I have some major problems with upgrading Windows Vista, that I could not find any discussion about. Here is the deal - I have a customer, that had Windows Vista (Slovenian, Home Premium) and bought Windows 7 for upgrade (also Slovenian, Ultimate). Naturally we ran the upgrade adviser and it checked out just fine - it did complain about some Power DVD program but I ignored that since I have upgraded before by others without problem. So the upgrade process began, it ran almost to the end when it suddenly, just before the end, resulted in error that said something about "unspecified or unknown error" and the installation should be ran again (and can not be continued). We tried to reboot without any luck - installation just keeps resuming - ending with the same error, also, it is impossible to run the upgrade again - because another one is in progress, I guess. So I ask - how to finish the upgrade or, if able, to revert back to Vista - my customer NEEDS working system - he has many programs that are vital for his business and/or business continual. I know that he should back up his important files and such, but there are some accounting databases that could not be backed up so easily by him - and we are past that point now.

a naive question perhaps: when upgrading from vista to 7, what will happen to all my various configs (networks, bookmarks, desktop icons, etc...)? are they preserved or will i have to rebuild everything? also, the upgrade advisor tells me that everything is ok with my installed programs, but what about user configs on each piece of software? i understand that the register will be cleaned out, so..

I am living in Beijing, China at present and am about to buy a new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. This comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Preinstalled (Chinese Version). I then intend to use the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program to acquire Eglish language media It is clear in Microsoft's documentation that this is not a supported upgrade path. However, assuming I can get Lenovo to provide the English Language Windows 7 upgrade media, I should be able to do a clean install as per Doing a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version and Paul Thurrot's Method. In fact this would be the method for achieving any unsupported upgrade path, eg: Vista 32 -> 7 64 Vista 64 -> 7 32 Chinese Vista -> English 7 Can anyone confirm that this is true, particularly for the language upgrade.

After Upgrade To Win7, Can I Delete Some Old Vista Files ?
I have seen in the program files folder that windows sidebar is still there. I wonder, can I delete some old vista stuff that isn't used by 7 after my upgrade? are there programs folders like this that I can rremove? or Is 7 still using this for gadgets? I didn't do a clean install some I am not sure if these a reminents of old programs that no longer work.
