No Device Drivers In The Installation Media
I just downloaded the iso file from microsoft site, then popped it in the cd/dvd drive. When the installation was just about to start, I get this msg saying: "There's no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK"
Can anybody help me understand why these drivers are not included in the iso file I downloaded from MS? What should I do now?

Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers
We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers. We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf. We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64. Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager. As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

W7 Installation: Device Drivers Not Found
I bought a W7 Home Premium, the discounted version for students, and I'm trying to install it on my Acer 6930G (500GB, ram 4GB, ...right stuff for W7). I'm actually running W Vista x86, and I know that in order to run W7 x64 (the one I bought) I must do a custom installation from the boot. And I'm doing so, well trying to... After the window asking for my location and keyboard input, I continue but then I get stuck. A new window pops up asking me for a device driver...it stated "device driver not found"... I read a lot on the internet, but that's driving me mad... how can I solve the problem and having that OS running?! I'm going to sue Microsoft if that OS is not gonna run... xD

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed After Win 7 Pro 64 Bit Clean Installation
I've just clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (original OS was Vista Ultimate). All appears to have gone well but on checking Device Manager there's a Base System Device entry in Other Devices group which is showing an exclamation mark. On opening this entry it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" Clicking Update Driver and searching the Internet fails to locate a driver. I didn't install an Intel chipset after the Win 7 install (this computer is almost 3 years old and Dell haven't provided a chipset for Win 7 so I'm assuming chipset support is included in Win 7 out of the box).Could anyone advise if the above is likely to cause any significant problems?

Rc Installation Problem : Cd/dvd Device Driver Not Found
I was trying to change from Windows 7 beta 7000 build to RC 1. Right after loading files, setup said something like a necessary cd/dvd device driver was missing and asked me to load it. I browsed for my driver folder and randomly tried with all the drivers. Did not work. Error message after that was something like no new devices found, please make sure driver is in installation media. Is there a way to get around this?

Re-installation From Upgrade Media
A friend did an overlay upgrade from Vista (+ lots of software, incl. Norton I.S.) to Windows 7, ending up with a borked computer. After much struggle, it's working, but boot times to desktop are extremely long. I have suggested a clean reinstall, with disciplined addition of drivers and apps, carefully checking functionality along the way. I am assuming that reinstalling from his upgrade media, and choosing Custom, then formatting and etc., will not result in any activation troubles. Correct? I want to help him get to a properly working system (w/o the execrable Norton stuff, if possible). There should be no issues between Windows 7 and his system hardware--my box is essentially the same and performs great, and I know to look to the mobo and hardware vendors for drivers rather than taking them from Windows Update (wrong Realtek LAN driver, thank you, MS).

Creating A Media Less Recovery / Installation Partition
After purchasing my new Student Version of Windows 7 Professional I was keen to do a full system format, and start fresh. I no longer had a need for the Dell Recovery Partition which contained Vista (and a decent amount of bloatware), so I removed all partitions from my disk to start with a blank 180GB HDD. I thought to myself, if I am going to start fresh I might as well do things right and mimic Dell’s setup with a recovery partition of my own. Now to be fair, this isn’t an extremely wild idea as there are plenty of manufacturers and software companies who provide such solutions very simple and easy. Everyone knows that Norton Ghost is fantastic, and Acronis TrueImage is right there with them. Of course you can simply run-up Imagex along with WinPE and sysprep a WIM to re-image your HDD at anytime for a free solution. However, all these solutions require that you have some sort of recovery media for boot time operation, and the Imagex solution isn’t for the faint of heart. Now I do a lot of travel, and I wanted a solution that didn’t require me to look after a bootable DVD or USB stick, and because I am working with a laptop I didn’t have second disk which I could boot from via BIOS settings. My recovery solution had to be a Primary Partition on my only HDD with boot time options (in case my system is completely rooted.) This turned out to be quite the challenge, as Windows 7 / Vista no longer support the simple easy boot.ini file that allows you to manually adjust boot time parameters. Instead Windows 7 / Vista have moved onto some fancy form of bootsect / BCD (Boot Configuration Data) which is very difficult to edit manually. Thankfully all of my hard work paid off and I now have a self sufficient system with all the diagnostics and re-imaging tools I could ever need. And thanks to Windows 7’s new Backup and Restore options, I was also able to include a system image which contained all of my settings and applications so that I don’t have to sit through 10 hours of Windows Update again. What I ended up with is a Primary partition on my HDD that is a full and complete bootable version of the Windows 7 installation media. When I choose this partition at boot time it is exactly as if I have inserted the Windows 7 Install DVD into my disk drive! I can utilise all of the tools in the Windows Recovery Console (which includes the option to restore from a previously created system image), or I can simply re-install Windows 7 from scratch - without affecting my restore partition or boot menu variables!

WinPE Not Compatible Error Booting From Installation Media
I have a multi-boot system with Win7 RC x64 and ubuntu 9.04. After installing ubuntu, Win7 booting was broken. This was fully expected behavior, but when I tried to use WinRE from the Win7 RC installation media (the exact same physical disc used to install Win7), I received the "This version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair" error. At that point my only options are to reboot or reinstall win7 from scratch. Any suggestions? I tried creating a new boot disk that would go directly into WinRE, but it gives me the same error. What does WinRE check to identify the installed version of windows? I still have access to the Win7 partition through Ubuntu, so I can check for the existence of specific files if necessary. If it makes a difference, this is on a GPT disk, and the Win7 partition is now partition 3 (was originally partition 2). I've installed dozens of multi-boot systems in the past, and I'm a former MCSE (Win2K). I'm not used to having problems that I can't solve with either my own knowledge or Internet searches, but I've struck out on both counts in this case. In all honesty, I've spent enough time trying to solve this issue that I could have rebuilt the install several times over, but now it's the principle of the thing (or my stubborn refusal to admit defeat, take your pick).

No Device Drivers Were Found
No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK. Windows XP-32bit > 7-64bit I have now spent many hours now on this and this is the latest error message i get after redownloading and going through all this malarky. I am getting very frustrated and heartly sick of MS. They are every example of a monopoly for the economist and will be for years. It is an absolute disgrace that they never even got 10 students to try and download when they uploaded; it's just basic. The money I have spent buying it have been long exceeded at a personal cost in time. I feel cheated.

Custom Install Issue - No Device Drivers
I downloaded the student edition of windows 7 Home Premium, I am currently running Vista Ultimate so cannot do an upgrade and have to do a custom install. I downloaded it fine, ran it, it opens up fine with the blue windows 7 opening screen, I select install, then select custom install. In the next window I have an empty white box which I presume is supposed to list my HD's allowing me to select where I want to install Windows 7. None of my HD's are showing up, I'm given the option to browse or scan, when I select this it gives me the message- No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK Any suggestions?

Realtek NIC Drivers - The Device Could Not Start
Windows Update suggested I update my Realtek NIC driver and as i had had problems with it, i installed the driver. However, the driver was a version from 2007 and the original was from 2008. It also did not work at all - "The device could not start" device manager told me. How do I escalate this to MS or are they not bothered?

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed
In Device Manger under "Other Devices" there is an entry titled "Base System Device." The message is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." Also "pci bus 9, device 3, function 2" appears. Needless to say, the "Update Driver Software" nor the Sony Support Website seem to list any drivers. However, everything seems to work but perhaps I haven't used whatever function this driver runs. I'm running a Sony laptop, Model VGN-FW351J. 2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded.Any suggestions to update (or install) the driver will be greatly appreciated.

How To Stop Win7 From Trying To Install Device Drivers ?
I installed Windows 7 RC. Initially, my HP Officejet J6480 printer did not work (the printer did, but the scanner and fax did not). As recommended on this site, I reinstalled the HP drivers using compatibility mode "Windows Vista" and everything seems to be working fine. However, every time I boot up, Windows 7 trys to reinstall the HP device drivers and after a few minutes, reports failure to do so. Is there some way to shut this off? The attempt to install the device driver delays my ability to do other things on the computer. I noted a similar post and the suggestion that the user install the "Windows device driver". However, I am not sure how to get the "Windows device driver". Isn't that what the computer is trying to do when I get the message? Russrich

Setting Up A Home Media Network Using Media Center And Media Extenders
I am trying to setup a media network for my new home that's being built. What I want to accomplish is a network that can feed my 5 TVs live feeds or be able to record up to 4 or so TV shows at once. But I wanted it all to come from one centeralized location. I know that I can do this with Windows Home Server and Windows 7 Media Center and then I know that I need a media extender for each TV. Other than that what else do I need? Can I just have one cable box plugged into the Server and have that feed all the TVs or do I need one cable box for each TV and do I need a Tuner Card in the Server for each TV? How many TV Cards can Windows 7 support at one time? How many Media Extenders can support one TV Card? I want to store my movies and music and pictures in this same server that I'm using for the live TV and DVR so what specs on the server do you recommend?
