Network Access To One Particular Share Denied
Oct 18, 2011
Background: Last weekend we changed the domain name and migrated all accounts, users, computers, etc.
We have one Windows 7 workstation giving us trouble - the user no longer could connect to their personal folder share (mapped to the U: drive). In troubleshooting, we discovered that NO user, including the domain admin, has access to that share when logged into that box. All accounts have full access when logged into any other computer on the domain. All other shares on same server (Windows Server 2008) can be accessed.
We have renamed the host, re-assigned the IP, dropped the box out of the domain and back again, triple checked all permissions, but no one can access this share...from this box...including the domain admin.

I have a few computers on the network and they have shared files.I can see their shares fine, they can't see mine.
192.168.0.1 ->this doesn't work for them, they keep getting the error that they don't have permission to acess it.
192.168.0.1SharedFolder
this works for them. They are mixed machines, vista, windows7 but they all get the error when trying to connect directly to my ip.
I tried enabling and then disabling homegroup(not using it btw) turning password protected sharing on and off, NOTHING works
What does one have to reset/fix in order to connect to the ip and see the shares on that machine.

I'm doing some work for a company who has 13 computers networked together. I just upgraded 3 of their computers to Windows 7 machines. One of them is being used as a database server, but is not running any sort of server software. It's a Windows 7 Pro 32 bit machine, with network access to the folders required for the database shared to "Everyone", and password protected sharing turned off. The problem computers are running Win XP SP3. Windows Firewall is turned off (which is required by one of the databases..I still don't understand exactly why), and I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials on them currently for antivirus.
Randomly, and for no reason that I can get to the bottom of, 3 of the machines lost connection to the shared network folder that the database uses. At one point, I narrowed down the issue to being something caused by Symantec Endpoint Protection (there was a bug in the version they had that could cause this problem) and the only way to fix it was by running Symantec's CleanWipe utility. This worked on 1 of the machines as a permanent fix. On the other two however, the issue continues to occur. If you try to launch the database program, it will lag and freeze windows explorer. If you try to access the shared folder from My Network Places, it will also lag up and freeze. Running CleanWipe again fixes the problem, but it apparently is only temporary. Now the strange thing is: I can boot the computers in safe mode when this happens, and have full access to the network shares. When I boot back into windows afterwards, the access will go away again. I can also access shared folders on any other computer in the network, just not this particular one regardless of being in safe mode or not.

I want to know if I can access a network share (for CMD line copy) that requires a username and password without mapping it.
The reason is for the purpose of copying backups. If I were to map the drive, any virus/malware could infect the share, defeating the purpose.
I know I can copy to the share if use the same account/passwords on both machines and just do xcopy \pcname\sharename..... I was hoping to avoid creating/changing accounts on the machines.
I know I can map the drive using netuse and then kill it after the copy. This isn't perfect, but I guess if there is no other way, it will pass.

I have a network hard drive mapped as Z: which I have become unable to do ANYTHING with. I can't delete anything, change anything, or add anything to the drive. I just get that blasted "Destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action."
The internet has provided me with a plethora of solutions to this issue, and none of them have worked. I'm logged on as administrator. User Account Control is totally off. Windows 7 will allow me to neither change permissions nor ownership of Z: or any folder or file within Z:.
I try giving Full Control to Everyone and it says "An error occurred while applying security information to (file name). Access is denied." I go into Advanced and click the Owner tab. It states the current owner of everything on Z: is "nobody," and if I try to change the owner, it says "Unable to set new owner on Z:. Access is denied."
I've tried going into command prompt and changing ownership using "takeown /f Z:" and I just get "Z: Access is denied."

I'd like to put a .cmd file in my c:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup directory, but Documents and Settings has a lock on it and tells me "Access denied" when I click on it. Is this a job for "Take Ownership" or is there another way? The instructions for "Take Ownership" say not to use it on the C drive, but it's not clear if that applies to the whole drive, or individual files/folders on it.

I have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.
On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).
On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.
The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.
Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

I haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.
I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.
I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
What am I doing wrong here?

After backing up my files to another drive, I couldn't access some of the files on my C: drive [the one I backed up files from to my D: drive]. I'm always on the administrator account, and there are no other users on this computer, and I've set the file so that the administrator has full control over it.Normally, I should be able to access the files [for example, my 'My Documents' and my 'My Videos' folders are unaccessible].

I had a go at installing Windows 7 yesterday and have run into a small hiccup. On my XP installation, my HD was partitioned into 2 drives, C: and D: (both the C and D drives are NTFS formatted).C: was used for windows and program files.D: was used for my documents eg. videos, photos etc.I installed Windows 7 as a fresh install to the C: partition and the installation went smoothly. However, My Computer, I can see the D: drive listed, but every time I click on the icon it says "Access Denied - Drive Not Accessible"All my stuff is backed up on an external drive so I'm not too worried about re-formatting HD etc, but wondered why it is doing it and if anyone knew a way to get my D: drive back without formatting?

My husband and I have been trying to get pictures from our camera (Fuji FinePix S3400) to the computer with the supplied USB lead. WE have been able to do so by taking the SD card and shoving it into the computer but we can't do so with the lead which we prefer to do. It seems wrong that we can't do that! With lots of going into all jigging around into files and setting we keep getting the message, "Access is Denied". We have even got into security of the folder and put in "Authenticated Users". We have an Acer that was bought with Vista and then converted to Win 7.

I seem to be having a problems with my computer's Administrator perks. My account is an administrator, and recently, I have been unable to do anything that requires that I be an administrator. Whenever I run an application that is set to Run as Administrator, an error box opens that says "The specified module could not be found" I can not access User Account Controls, the window just does not open, no error message. I can use applications that would normally display the error message in Safe Mode, but I still can't access things like User Account Controls.

Ok, I have XP and Win 7 setup in dual boot mode, but I can't run XP because (I am pretty sure) the boot.ini file I have in Win 7 now is pointing to the wrong disk and partition for the location of XP. So I wanted to edit the boot.ini file and change the numbers so that it would point to the correct one. But when I go to save changes I keep getting "Access Denied" message. I have admin privileges, so I don't understand why it won't let me write to it. Is there a security setting I need to change so that I can edit this file?

I have been having intermittent OS problems on my PC, so before they managed to get any worse, I ran the sfc/scannow check. It ran without a problem and when it was done it reported it had completed 100%, however "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."So, I go into my windows (yes I am logged in as administrator) to read the log file and access is denied. I went into the security settings for the main Log file to change the security settings for myself to full control, however it didnt change anything. I am unable to get to any type of security measures for the file itself going the regular route via its properties.I am not all that knowledgeable with these types of things, (but know enough to get myself in trouble now and again! ) and would appreciate knowing if there is something else I need to do in order to gain access and read this file? I also tried to get to it going through my Administrator Command Prompt but I was denied access in this attempt also.
