Network Application Crashes

I have several applications that we run over the network from a location on the domain.  If I copy the files to the windows 7 desktop they run fine.  If I run the files straight from the network it crashes.  Any ideas?

Application Error - The Application Was Unable To Start Correctly (0xc0000005)
I have an old application Creatacard Gold which my wife uses all the time and works fine from Windows 98SE, through XP right up to Vista with SP2 on a variety of PC's that I have built over the years. It doesn't need to use any compatability mode to run on these systems.

I installed it OK on my new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. This is a new built PC using an Asus P5Q-EM mobo,E5300 CPU and 4GB of Kingston RAM, that has not had any other Windows version installed. Other Apps loaded to date all work fine so I don't suspect the RAM.

When trying to run the Creatacard program in Windows 7 it reports "Application Error - The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application". I have tried setting the compatabilty modes to XP SP2 and SP3 as well as Vista. Also tried running as Administrator in these modes but no success with same error message. There is no support from the authors as it is 10 years old. Any help appreciated.

XP Mode Publish Network Application (shortcut)
A client of mine has a program that (other than the local database) resides on the server. The only thing on the local machine is a shortuct on the desktop to the program on the network drive and the local database. This program in not compatible with Windows 7, but will launch just fine in XP Mode. Is there a way to publish this application to her Win 7 desktop? Since the application is not really installed on the XP Mode vm, nothing is published to Windows 7. Is there a way to manually publish an application?

Network Discovery Crashes Router
I have been having a problem with my home network crashing when using WIndows 7. For some reason, whenever I tried to access shared folders or computers on my home network, windows 7 would show "limited connectivity" and I would lose my internet connection. The crazy thing, is that Windows 7 was somehow causing my router to fail because all of my networked computers lost their connections (wired and wireless) until I reset the router and restarted windows 7.

I recently turned off "network discovery" in my network control panel in WIndows 7, and the problem seems to have stopped. But now I still can't access shared computers, folders, or printers. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Router: Belkin wireless G router with the latest firmware

Adapter: Realtech integrated into my gigabyte motherboard

Windows 7 build 7100 64bit (Although I've had the same problem with other early Windows 7 builds)

Starting Network Application In Seamless Mode Won't Work
I'm trying to start a legacy network application on a network share in seamless mode. In XP Full screen mode it works fine, but in seamless mode it seams that he cannot establish a connection to the share early enough. First I tried it with the share on the host pc - doesn't work. Second I map the share in XP by hand (changed network adapter to NIC) and tried it - also doesn't work.

Firewalls, Network Drives (NAS) And Explorer Crashes
My observations: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Two NAS servers, from QNAP. After a random period, Explorer hangs/crashes. This is with either the McAfee firewall or Kaspersky's. It looks like Windows looses the SAMBA connection and Explorer can't restore when an attempt is made to access the drives.

The Windows firewall works fine.. but ONLY if autodisconnect (a registry setting) is set to 0xFFFF (65536, max value). For other firewalls, this doesn't matter it seems. Failure occurs anyways. Did anyone see this as well ? In case of Vista there were no problems, but it's my understanding that the firewall support in Windows 7 is different.

Network Drive Searches Crashes Explorer.exe
So I have about eight Win7 Pro 64-bit systems in our office and 3 of them crash Explorer.exe every time you try to search a network drive from within Windows Explorer.  The other Win7 systems do not have this problem.  The 3 systems that have the issue do not experience the same crash when searching local drives, only network drives.

I tried uninstalling antivirus software, but that did not help. Below is the Event log description of the crash. The log also mentions ntdll.dll so I checked the file's  digital signature, date, and size on the suspect systems and everything looks the same as the systems without the issue.

Explorer.exe Crashes When Browsing Network Files
I am seeing Explorer.exe crash when opening certain network folders. It might do it two or three times in a row and then opens it ok. There is nothing special about the folders, they just contain regular files and folders (for example, no video or pictures files, etc). Just now, I can't reproduce it, if I do again, I'll post the error info. If I click to restart Explorer, a new explorer window opens - you don't get explorer back running your desktop and Start Menu.

These folders present no issues on any other OS. Is anyone else seeing this?

Application Setup Error Due To Another Application Setup Running
With 98% of most of my applications installing running, I had two left that I can't installed on my 64bit Window 7 RTM.  These are 32bit Adobe Media Player and 32bit Java runtime. These application setups are giving me the error message:"...

The application could not be installed because another application is already being installed.  Complete the first installation before proceeding with this one."Does anyone can give me a hint how to identify this background installation?  And/or, clear this condition? The error stills comes up after rebooting and trying to run setup again.

EXPLORER.EXE Crashes, MMC.EXE Crashes, Moviemaker.exe Error
I want to love Win7 so badly, but this is just crazy. I'm about to go back to good old XP, simply for the stability. I'm about fed up with Windows 7 after only using it for two weeks. Off of a brand new and formatted clean install, with only Norton NIS 2010, Itunes, Adobe Reader, and Firefox 3.5.7 installed, I get constant explorer.exe crashes.

Shortly followed by an mmc.exe crash, then it just gets caught up in a never-ending explorer.exe crash that only a reboot resolves, for a short time. All drivers are up to date, and all Win 7 updates have been applied.

I've even formatted and re-installed Win7 only to have explorer begin crashing a day later. This is all on a stock Dell Inspiron 545 quad core, 8GB RAM, etc. I'm very tech savvy and am about jump off of the Win 7 bandwagon. Maybe the Apple Mac commercials are correct, another fumbled attempt at a stable OS from Microsoft?

After extensive reading, it appears that many others are suffering through this ____ also. Some get it while attempting to right click any icon, some when launching apps, some, like me , for no apparent reason at all. I don't ever get the BSOD, but the computer is essentially non-functional due to explorer restarting all the time.

I've done a ton of reading and have tried sfc /scannow, which found no errors. I've tried shellexview, to no avail for the context handlers. I've uninstalled and re-installed all non-MS apps. I've tried everything that I've read, and it eventually starts crashing again. It is very random, and I can find no patterns that cause the explorer crashing.

It works for two days, then goes haywire. Sometimes it only works for an hour before the explorer crashes begin. And yes, this is a fully licensed and legal copy of Win 7 Pro that I purchased through CDW. A side note, this computer ran WIN XP perfectly. All hardware has been tested and is perfect. If anyone has found a fix for this issue, then please chime in! Below are the errors that populate the Event Viewer:

Activation context generation failed for "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryMovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryWLMFDS.DLL" on line 8. I just want to know whether it will run perfectly fine with Windows 7.

One of my concern is that the application reads and writes to registry and it works fine in XP, whether it will create any issue in windows 7?

Application Switching
So I have windows 7 RC1 installed. Generally I never do task/application switching using windows but I recently installed a wacom pen tablet and one of the shortcut keys on the tablet was programmed to switch to various applications... BUT IT DID IT IN A WAY I HAVE NOT FOUND IN Windows 7 YET!

Usually Alt+Tab gives you the generic windows task switcher that shows all the icons of the various apps you have open.

But the pen tablet used an app switcher that did this..

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/49679/win7application.png

Its a screenshot of every open window you have open and you can cycle through them til you get to the one you want.

Any idea what the shortcut keys are to access this application switcher?

Application Recovery After Reboot
We had something interesting happen after an SMS patch was pushed to a Windows 7 machine overnight. The tech had several applications open, including an unsaved and untitled Paint document. The SMS patch forced a reboot, and the tech reported that when he logged back on, the Paint document popped back up with "recovery" in the title pane. Is this a new Windows 7 recovery feature? If so, is there documentation on it? I'd love to read up on ways to tweak it, for use in future build revisions.

How To Add Application And Drivers ?
I have been working with the Windows 7 pre-installation environment and AIK for some time now. I have the latest versions of each.I have succeeded in loading drivers and creating a bootable media to do everything I need to deploy from custom .wim files. The only issue is that almost all my target PCs have a touch screen only. No keyboard, no mouse.  I have the touch screen working in Windows 7 because I can install it - drivers, registry entries, config files, executables and all.

How can I get this touch screen working in Windows 7PE?  I have installed the drivers using drvload.exe. I have copied all the system file to their respective spaces.  I have manual created the program files folders and copied the executables. But- it still doesn't act like a touch screen!Any ideas?

Third Party Application Support
I have little to no third party app support.  Any way around this?

1. Missing: Intel 945GM Chipset DriverTried: Installing Windows Vista Ultimate Driver for Chipset but got the error "version not supported" (isn't Windows 7 supposed to be backwards compatible with Vista?)

2. Error Upgrading BIOSError:  Gives an error message something like "Cannot read application... or something like that"

3. Sony Power management Installs correctly but when I click on the tab in power management - Always get a failure message

4. General third party applications such as hotkey functions for the notebook.  All applications are generally XP based so I lose all functionality there.

5. Even the Sony easy upgrade application that helps you upgrade necessary software doesn't run. Anybody in the same boat that has found solutions to these problems?  Any suggestions?

Win 7 Application Error
I was using Windows Vista Home Basic operating system which was pre-installed on my laptop when I bought it. I use Tata Indicom Plug2Surf USB modem for connecting to internet. Till date it was working fine. But when I upgraded to Windows7 Ultimate RC last day, it stopped working.

I have re-installed the drivers using the CD which came with USB modem, but still it is not working. It always shows the message "Modem driver not installed. Install driver and restart the program". I tried several times, using all my knowledge like uninstall & reinstall, restart the laptop, etc; but all in vain.

Kindly advice me a solution to overcome this problem.

There Is A 32 Win Application Error
I am very new and have a question about the windows automated installation kit for windows 7 how dose that work is it where I do not have to burn on to a DVD? I am having troubles burning it on to a disc I have nero suite 6 and download another program etc. and I am having troubles with burning is there another way to install without burning?

I am confused. The burning it on a dvd? What exactly kind of writable dvd I need? I have the DVD+R now, what do I really need. Is there a disc that can be mailed to me instead? I really want to test this for games that I have to see it will work for The Sims 2 & 3 games, SimCity Societies etc?

Application Compatibility Settings
In one of my software deployments, the installer refuses to run on Windows 7 RC, saying it is an unsupported operating system. To install it manually, I have been changing the compatibility settings to run in compatibility mode for Vista SP2. When I do this, it installs without a problem. The application itself works just fine on Windows 7.

I created a vbscript to do this for me automatically: when the vbscript determines it is running on Windows 7, it sets the appropriate registry settings (AppCompatFlags) so the installer thinks it is running on Vista SP2.

This works great when I manually run the script as an administrator. I open a command prompt with administrative privileges, use "cscript.exe install.vbs", and the software installs as expected. The installer leaves a log file that specifies that it found itself running on Vista SP2, and completes successfully.

However, when I deploy the vbscript and installer through SCCM 2007, it doesn't work. I know the vbscript sets the compatibility setting in the registry (the vbscript writes this information to the Event Log, and I can see the setting in regedit), but the installer leaves a log that says it found itself running on Windows 7 and fails.

Right now the only thing that I can think may be causing this problem is if, for some reason, when applications run in the SYSTEM account (like SCCM deployments that are run with administrative privileges), Windows 7 doesn't enforce compatibility settings. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything online to back up this suspicion.

Does anyone know if application compatibility settings are honored when running in the SYSTEM account?

Or, does anyone know of something else that may be causing this problem?

Application Start And Compatibility
My laptop (IBM ThinkPad T43) is prone to getting quite hot when running certain software, so I use Network Hardware Control to monitor the CPU temperature, and display it in the taskbar.   NHC worked perfectly with Win XP, but under Win7, it won't start automatically.

If I click on it to start it, I get the "Permission request" every time, even though I've set it to "Run as Administrator".

I'm sure the fix is easy, but how do I get Win 7 to allow it to start at bootup, and how to let it run as Admin without needing to give it permission each time?

All Plugins Have INVALID APPLICATION Error
I just got a brand new Touchsmart 300z running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. I set up Windows Media Center, and added Mediabrowser for better TV show support.

Mediabrowser sometimes behaves normally, other times it gives me an INVALID APPLICATION unable to launch Mediabrowser error. I usually don't get the error when I first launch Mediabrowser. I usually get it (only sometimes) when entering one of the media collections, trying to play a video (again, only *sometimes*), trying to save settings, etc. The crazy thing is, sometimes it works.

It does seem to consistently give me the error for some video files. For others it might give me the error *sometimes*. Sometimes I can play the file without problem, other times I get the error.

All files play correctly in native Media Center, in the Touchsmart software (which also doesn't support TV series collections very well), and WMP.

Thinking this might be a video-related problem, I also installed Heatwave, GameEx, and mcShoutcast. Heatwave also gives me this error -- SOMETIMES. mcShoutcast and GameEx seem to always give the error. For kicks I also tried TunerFreeMCE - always gives the error.

I have tried various things like manually deleting caches, changing permissions for the ProgramData folder for the plugin to allow everything from the user profile that I log in with to run Media Center... Nothing has worked.

Yet I can use the native Media Center capability for videos, music, Internet TV, etc.

Basically, the upshot is that NO PLUGINS WORK CORRECTLY. I suspect that it is at least partially due to x64, based on the fact that when others have had the same errors that could not be resolved using the normal fixes, they were x64 also. Seems like the 7RC had less trouble from what I have been reading...

I'm very frustrated, and am thinking of returning the s****y Touchsmart and building a Windows 7 32bit or Vista 32-bit box... Maybe using XBMC or something and skipping the tuner all together, though the husband would really like to watch live sports OTA.
