Maxtor One Touch Not Recognized

Maxtor Onetouch II external drive. The drive works perfectly w/Window XP, but is not recognized at all by Windows 7 64 bit. It does show up in the Device Manager and  in Disk Management, but I can't initialize it. At first gave me an error message when tried to initialize, now it's turned grey and I can't even try to perform the action. Tried powering the drive, shutting down and restarting, etc. I do get a chime when I connect the USB. Works fine w/XP, so I'm sure the problem is not the drive itself.

Maxtor One Touch III Turbo / Firewire Disappears
Maxtor One Touch III turbo / firewire disappears - requires power cycle. I have a Maxtor One Touch III (IIIm) firewire RAID array attached to a Dell Inspiron 5100 via firewire. It's the second device in the chain behind a DVD-RW drive. If I bring the disk up after Windows is is booted, it works fine. I can install apps from it, copy data to/from it, etc. The cable doesn't appear to be having problems - since I have hammered the disk in XP, and it runs reliably. (I've dumped 3-4GB DVD ISO's on it, and it didn't blink)

The trouble is that it disappears after the laptop is put to sleep - or the disk goes to sleep. Once either of these happens, I have to power cycle the RAID box to get it to show back up. About half the time, Windows acts like it's never seen the thing before, and loads drivers.

I do have the Vista software package for it installed, and when it disappears, it doesn't show up in the management app or in device manager. Even stranger, if Windows goes to sleep and is awaken before the disk goes to sleep, the disk acts like it is still connected. (both lights are on solid) Eventually, the disk will go to sleep on its own if I don't restart it.

The DVD-RW drive, on the other hand, always shows up reliably. I've ripped ISO images from it, and burned ISO images to it from Windows 7 - so it seems to be an issue with the disk, and not the firewire controller/driver. The disk also shows up even after a soft-start or sleep mode.

The RAID box does have a USB mode, but it is substantially slower than the firewire mode - however, if this keeps up I may have to start using it. Any ideas?

Maxtor One Touch III Turbo (firewire) Sleep Problems
I have a Maxtor One Touch III turbo, and am attaching it using Firewire 400 to my Dell Inspiron 5100. (built-in TI controller). The drive works fine, until it goes to sleep. At this point, it drops out of Explorer entirely. I have to cycle power to bring the drive back up.

This does not happen in Windows XP or Linux.

The work around is to either a) turn off the RAID box's power management (not great) or b) cycle power (also not great)

Any idea if this affects other firewire attached disks, and if it is going to be fixed? I reported this as a bug during the RC period as well.

Note - I'm not using the backup software at the moment. It's just mounted as a firewire disk.

Touch Screen Issue: Touch Recognized On Wrong Side Of Screen
So I have a small 10" touch screen  as a secondary screen and it is recognized and installed when I plug it in the computer.

My problem is that the actual touching is severly misplaced and I can not use the calibration tool (Tablet PC Settings in control panel) to correct this problem.

It is as if the vertical and horisontal inputs of the screen has been swapped. If I touch the right side on the screen and drag my finger to the left I can see the cursor go from the top to the bottom and if I touch the top and drag down the cursor goes from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen.

Installing the drivers from the manufacturer of the touch controller, http://www.eeti.com, did not help at all. It just says there are no touch controllers connected to my computer.

Is there a way I can correct this problem?

ATA UDMA ATA Maxtor Not Recognized In W7 64bit
Finally have W7 running however it can not see my original C: drive 60Gb maxtor. As the W7 is separate from the original XP 32bit (dual boot) I wanted to be able to use drivers & programs on this drive to actually start using the 64bit system. (Beyond some other problems with drivers everything seems to be okay).

Should I try to find Vista drivers to be able to access this drive. I have already copied all the drivers from the ATA to the SATA drive that W7 is installed on to no avail.

When restarting in XP (on the aforementioned HD) the system starts normally.

Also have issues with my Linksys WRT54GC USB network dongle but have found a 64bit vista driver for it & will attempt an install later today. (will let u know)

Touch Screen Problem - Win 7 Wont Recognize Touch Screen
I have the following problem:

Windows 7 don't recognize my touch screen.

It all started when my harddrive crashed, and I had to replace it. - the old drive had a pre-installed vista on it, including a HP recovery drive (2 partitions).

Since I didn't have any CD/DVD with windows on, i downloaded WIN 7 RC. The installation went without problems - great operating system by the way.

The only problem is that it didn't find the touchscreen. I've searched everywhere but can't find any drivers. I can open "tablet PC" via control panel, and I all so get the "calibrate screen" and "configure - setup". But when I tab the screen to set it as a touchscreen nothing happens.

The display options says: "Nvidia default flat panel" and in "screen resolution - monitor - monitor type" i is set to generic PnP monitor.

I found here on technet (see link below) that you can force windows to set up as a tablet pc via regedit :

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsTablet PC - Change the values in DeviceKind and IsTabletPC to 1" - this dosen't work - I get the following message; " cannot edit DeviceKind / IsTabletPC: error writing the valvue's new content"

There is no drivers on HP's website.

The computer is a HP PAVILLION entertainment PC tx 1000 (tx1151ea)?

how do i get the touchscreen to work.

This is what I get, any help would be awesome, I have tons of shows I taped on the drive!

No additional drivers should be needed to run any usb drive in W7.

Plug it in and W7 should detect it and autostart will pop up menu options.

Maxtor Basics Compatibility Stops Responding
I've got an issue with Win7 64-bit RC where my 1GB Maxtor Basics USB HDD seems to timeout and stop responding. This typically happens when I've been using the machine but not accessing the HDD for a while. The net result is that when I try to access the drive either Explorer, or whatever application I am running tries to access the HDD it locks up and the process cannot be killed easily. If I unplug and reconnect the HDD it comes back to life.

Win XP/7 Connecting External Hard Drive (Maxtor)
I have a iMac Desktop. I have my Maxtor Central Axis External hard drive attached to my Wireless router. I have now installed Parallels to the desktop which will show the windows and Mac screen at the same time.

On my Mac, I can access the external hard drive without any problems, however when I insert the disk and upload the data for the hard drive on the Windows desktop it will load, and let me open it up however it will say, "NO CENTRAL AXIS DRIVES FOUND, MAKE SURE THE DRIVE IS CONNECTED TO YOUR NETWORK AND TURNED ON".

It's turned on and it is, I believe connected to my network.

MP3 Corruption Update And Maxtor Onetouch III External Drive
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. When I apply the MP3 corruption update for Windows 7 from the KB article provided in the release notes for build 7000, my onetouch III external drive isn't recognized anymore. For those who are familiar with this drive, the white light on the front just keeps flashing like it's in sleep mode. Any thoughts on what might be causing the problem?

Touch Screen
I understand with the correct specs, drivers, vid card (and monitor?) that Windows 7 PCs can have touch screen capability.

The HP TouchSmart IQ545a already has that, with Vista.

If I am in the markert for a new PC, and WANT at least the ability to have a Windows 7 Upgrade voucher for future use AND want touchscreen capability, what do I specifically look for spec-wise?

In other words, are there any presently available PCS apart from the HP, that CAN have the touchscreen capabilty when on Windows 7. And is the HP TouchSmart IQ545a upgradable to Windows 7, anyone know, that would then retain touchscreen capability post-upgrade?

Touch Screen Interface
I thought I would give windows 7 a go about a week ago on my Home system and loved it so much I've decided to install on my "carpc" that's fitted in my Toyota Hilux

The install seemed to go well just like it did on my Home system, with even the touch screen being found, only problem I could not get it to Calibrate very precise.

One thing I noticed right away was Windows 7 seems to have a built in Touch Screen interface that only shows the options to when it knows a Touch screen is present, for example you can scroll about in word docs, or internet explorer just by placing your finger anywhere on the screen rather than the little bar on the right you normally have to use which can be hard on a 7" touch screen.

There is a better on screen keyboard that pops out when needed if using the touch screen, also the cursor changes to a small dot rather than a mouse cursor, but changes back as soon as you move the mouse. I'm sure there are other features I not had chance to find yet.

My only problem now is due to me not being able to calibrate the screen as good as normal I decided to install the Software/drivers from the screen manufacture, I used the Vista version which worked well, and now the screen is calibrated perfectly.

The problem is now windows 7 has taken away all the touch screen options in the control panel, plus all the above features I said no longer happen

Any idea how I can get them back while still maintaining my manufactures driver/software?

Touch Screen Theory
I've heard that the desktop computer & the lap top computers will have a setting on the computer so you can touch what your doing. Well I do have to ponder a question to you guys that are testing Windows Seven out be for the release date comes.

My question's:Will the screen break if you use the touch screen on a lap top? Do I need to get a specially monitor for the touch screen that will be add to Windows Seven? If I do need a specially touch screen, will Windows Seven come up with one that does expect Windows Seven software. An if I wanted to get a touch screen how wood I know if it is a touch screen other then a regular monitor, wood it say it is a touch screen ect.
