Win 7 Does Not Show Logon Screen
I just installed Windows 7 (build 7100) in a Asus 1002HA notebook. However, when windows starts, or comes back from hibernation, the screen stays black. It shows the "starting windows" or "resuming windows" screens, but then it becomes black and it does not show the logon screen. I can see that the computer is running (hard drive blinks ocasionally), but no response from the keyboard. However, if I put the computer to sleep (I have it configured to sleep when I close the lid), and then wake it up, I get the logon screen, I am able to logon, and everything works fine. Any idea on what is going wrong?

Speed Up Domain Logon When You Do Not Have Any Network?
First, we do not use Roaming Profiles. When people bring their computers home where there is no company network, it takes approx 50-60 seconds to log on on Windows 7 laptops. This must mainly be because Windows waits for contact with the company network/domain controller. We use login scripts and other stuff so I guess there are policies trying to reach out when you log on. Are there any group policies or tweaks that can lower this long long timeout before it finally logs on using cached credentials?

Logon Server Not Available Error When Login To Corp Domain Server
I just finished installing Windows 7 RTM version on my 64 bit laptop. Everything seems to be working except I get this error message when I try to log into our corp domain, using my domain userid and password. Here is what I have done so far1. Installed the OS2. Successfully joined the corp domain (using the domain joining wizard)- it even asked me if I wanted to create the domain account on the local machine3. Rebooted and tried to login, and that's when I get this response saying "no logon server available to logon". Has anyone seen this behavior with windows 7 (vista was working fine). Any thoughts on how to get past this issue?

I'm creating a Windows 7 Image using the AIK. I been using Audit Mode to install my applications. I've created a custom power scheme so that the computer will not hibernatesleep while I'm in Audit Mode. My question is I would like to enable the checkbox to require a password to bring the computer out of a screensaver mode during the OOBE pass or via the SetupComplete.cmd.Â

Screen Becomes Corrupted And Logon Screen Changed Color
This is so strange. My screen resolution is corrupted and my logon screen changed from Green to Blue. Steps: 1) Using Office Word 2007, Outlook 2007, IE 8 Beta, and Live Messenger on Windows 7 2) Pressed Ctrl + Alt + Delete to lock my computer Observation: 1) Screen is corrupted (resolution becomes 640 x 480 from 1280 x 800 and colors become 16 bits) 2) Logon screen is now Blue instead of Green I was able to change the resolution of the screen. However, still don't know how to switch my logon back to Green color.

Computer Joined To Domain - Removing Domain Users
Recently, I converted to using Windows 7 Ultimate and immediately after installing and joining my company domain I tried to set my security a little tighter since I'm one of the IT staff for my company. In Windows XP Pro I would remove the typical "Domain Users" was not part of the Local Machine users, and removed the "Domain Admins" from the local machine "Administrators" group for security reasons. In Windows 7 I added my Domain account with explicit permissions to the local machine "Users" gorup. Then I tried simply removing "Domain Users" from the local machine "Users" group and was till able to login with any of my other domain accounts. In order to get it to deny the "Domain Users" from logging in I had to remove all the NT built-in members and then ensure only the explicit local and domain accounts that I wanted to use the computer are members of the local machine "Users" group. Is there a better way to do this in Windows 7? It seems really odd that removing "Domain Users" isn't enough to stop them from logging in.

Logging In To Non Domain Network Share From Computer On Domain
I've got a machine running Windows 7 logged on the network domain but when I try to map a share to a machine on the network, but not registered on the domain I cannot connect (even though I have a local account on the networked machine). When attempting to connect Windows 7 prompts me for my connection credentials and it automatically fills in the domain name. How can I connect to this network share using credentials that are local to that network share?

Can You Change The Domain Log On Screen?
I am hoping to deploy Windows 7Â on a domain in a primary school enviroment. Our users will log in using their own credentials which are stored on a domain. We get enough calls to the service desk from users forgetting to change the drop down menu to log onto the domain, as such I am positive that having to click "Switch User", "Other users" then manualy typing in a domain name then a username will be beyond most of our end users, and more than likley a deal breaker when it comes to the issue of upgrading. Is it possible to change the UI so that the last user is NOT remembered, and that the domain is availible from a drop down menu?

Is There A Logon Screen Screensaver ?
In XP & Vista a Windows screensaver would turn on after a short while if the system was left on the user[s] log-in screen. At least with my installation of Windows 7Â RC1, this does not appear to be the case. if left on that screen, nothing ever happens. Is this WAD? And, if so, is there any way to turn it on?

No Screensaver On Logon Screen
My wife and I each have user accounts and we "Switch User" back and forth all the time, and sometimes leave it at the logon screen with our two icons to click on. In XP, the screensaver would run on the logon screen, but I'm noticing that nothing happens from the logon in 7. We have use the photo screensaver which makes it a digital picture frame of sorts, but if you leave it at the logon, you'll come back an hour later to see our two icons waiting for you. Has the screensaver on logon been removed or is there a configuration I'm missing?

Customize Welcome / Logon Screen
Has anyone found a way to change the "Welcome" screen without downloading a "fix" from the inet? I've tried creating a jpeg (the correct size) in windowssystem32oobeinfoackgrounds (saved as defaultBackground) and making a chage in the registry to: HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Authentication>LogonUI>Background... Key OEMBackground value 1 ... but to no avail. What is interesting is that the original MS background file ((bitmap) in system 32oobe) that is the welcome screen has security permissions on it .... with Adminstrators only having Read/Read and Execute ONLY... O.O TrustedInstaller has full rights to it . Any suggestions?

Black Screen Instead Of Logon Screen
I use the bios selection to boot from either drive A or B.I use Windows dual-boot menu on drive B to select between Vista and 7RC. The black screen problem was first observed with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the Beta distributed at the Installation Festival. I had taken only one monitor to the festival and everything appeared to be working fine then. Once home, I noticed that I had no sound. I downloaded drivers for my SPXFI card and got sound but, got the black screen on reboot. I asumed that the SB driver was the cause. I had configured the Display on DVI 2 as my main display. I then tried the 32-bit version with the same results. I had purchased a brand new 1TB drive for my Win 7 experimentation. I had disabled my main drive (A) throught the BIOS for installation. I hastily concluded that W7 was not quite ready for my system. I installed Vista Home Premium on my B drive using the same method and everything worked fine. When RC was announced, I downloaded the 64-bit version, created a partition on my B drive and installed it there while my A drive was disabled from the BIOS. Installation went fine but I encountered the same black screen problem on the final reboot. However, I observed the odd disk activity and did not want to turn of the computer while this was going on. I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and other things and managed to get some voice from the computer. I had activated the Access functionality from the invisible logon screen. I did another Ctrl+Alt+Delete, typed my password and followed by Enter. The monitor connected to DVI 1 immediately came on. I did not have a menu bar because I had specified the other monitor as my primary one. A right-click on the screen brought up the contextual menu, from which I selected Personalize > Display > Change display settings. Clicking the "Detect" button turned on the second monitor. I plan on altering my connection so that my main display will be on DVI 1 instead of 2. In the mean time, I will blind-type my password and restore the settings.

I'm pretty sure its the video card driver or the video card itself. Computer Type: Desktop Video Card Type: ATI Radeon 4870 Works in safe mode with internet Alt Ctrl Del works but doesn't show taskmanager Cannot logout only shutdown. Fresh install (today) Tried reinstalling the vista driver and then the windows 7 driver. I heard something about BIOS could be a factor but i don't think so.

Replacement Bitmaps For Logon Screen
Nothing special just give the Bitmaps a Black hue instead of the standard colors. Screenshots of my Laptop screen I apologize apparently my digital camera sucks, they don't really show the effect of the change as well as actually looking at the screen. Also I have uploaded a copy of my own edited Authui.dll with the excess crap removed from the file to get filesize down. Instructions to download are included with the zip file, along with a copy of the original Bitmaps Note: If your looking at screenshot of my laptop, you'll notice buttons still look blue, that is only from the transparency effect coming from the wallpaper. The buttons will take on the hue of the wallpaper.

Customizing The Win7 Logon Screen
If anyone is interested in customizing their Windows 7 Logon screen such as moving items or removing items. Current Edits so far: Change Wallpaper - Very easy yes we all know Change button text shading - another easy one everyone knows Remove Windows 7 Banner Remove Shutdown buttons - Red button set at bottom right corner Remove Ease of access button - Blue button bottom left corner ( This one I haven't seen anyone accomplish yet and every site I visited said it isn't possible as of 2 am this morning I successfully changed the following Custom Userbox Custom Enter Button Custom Shutdown Button set Custom Ease of Access Button set If anyone tries these out especially on a x64 machine and has trouble let me know. I've had report of a blackscreen when locking the computer but it hasn't happened to my machine running x86. Also before doing any of these hacks create a restore point first goto control panel/system'advanced system settings/system protection and click create Ok so heres instructions: If your not comfortable with editing yourself here are the basebrd.dll and the authui.dll files that I customized for my pc. They will work for all versions of Windows 7.
