Laptop Turns On But Does Not Boot-up
Feb 29, 2012
I have a Packard Bell Easynote TJ74, i bought it will a defect screen as i was planning to use my tv as the external monitor. For a few months it has worked perfectly. One morning i turned the laptop on and the laptop turned on with certain lights, but did not boot up and the screen which usually just has a white light did not show either, the hard drive lights did not light up but the heat sensitive buttons do work and light up but it's almost like the laptop is on but nothing is happening inside :S. I have the power supply constantly plugged in but the battery is not being used as don't want to over charge. After turning the laptop on and off multiple times it will finally start up correctly and the screen will light up just with a white screen and it will change over to the TV correctly.

my Toshiba laptop screen stays black, my laptop turns on but the screen stays black, I have tried many steps and none has proved, I wonder if it has to do with a cable or is the screen that needs to be replaced.

Recently my computer started to show signs that the power supply wasn't working properly. Every time it was unplugged and plugged back to the outlet, a light in the back will blink and make a clicking noise. Two days ago it did it again, when I unplugged it and plugged back in. I unplugged everything from the computer and try turn it on, but it didn't work. I checked all the cables inside and everything seemed to be connected properly. I unplugged the main cable from the motherboard and plugged the power supply and light at the back stopped blinking and remain lit. I decided to plug the motherboard cable. After doing that, the computer started but now it won't boot. All fans are running and there are no clicking or beeping sounds.

I have a windows 7 os that on bootup gets to the logo then it turns the monitor off so that it says no signal. I can hear the sound of it booting up...no signal. This is a 30 day old build that has been working perfectly. I used the onboard graphics card...same results. Everything works in safe mode(where I'm typing from now)but I cannot access much. I placed this post here because I only had this problem after the latest update(even though I'm not sure they are related). I had already tried to repair/and restore...no affect.

When my laptop wakes up from sleep mode, my wireless turns off for about 2-5 minutes. The screen also flashes, the task bar switches from black to clear. When wireless starts working again, the screen flashes a second time and the task bar returns to black.

I've got a HP Pavilion g series laptop, which has recently, when being turned on, powering up as normal by turning the light of the power button on and lighting the screen, then quickly shutting these off again, and then continuing to turn on as normal. It hasnt been doing this for very long, I have no idea whether it is a serious problem or not as I don't know anything about computers. I must add that I don't use my laptop with the battery in; I use it with the battery out as I mostly use it plug into the mains.

I have rebuilt my system twice now and my system is still turning off the display and powering down randomly. I have followed all the guide lines for disabling sleep mode and it still randomly stops running by turning off the display and powering down. I have to push the power button again and then Windows start up in diagnostic mode where I can select safe mode if I want.

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this but, ever since I reformatted my laptop, it randomly freezes for about a second and a stuttering noise comes up. Then the screen turns black. It doesn't shut off because I could see the back light, it just turns completely black. What's causing this problem and how do I fix it? I checked the Event Logger and there are tons of errors and some critical kernal-power things.

I got my hard drive replaced a few weeks ago (dropped my laptop) and had an OEM version of Windows 7 installed. After getting home and re-installing all my drivers /programs, I used it like I normally do. Fast forward 2 weeks. I wake up and press the power button but the laptop is dead (this is odd because I usually put it in hibernate on a full charge before I go to bed). This continued to happen every day, my computer s dying overnight. Since last week I have been observing it overnight. Whether it be hibernate or sleep, my computer will turn itself on and become completely unresponsive (sounds like it's on but the screen is off. My test to see if it's frozen is to hit the 'num lock' key to see if it lights up). This event is a 100% occurrence. The only way to turn it off is to hold the power button for 5 seconds. Basically if I leave my laptop in sleep or hibernate, it will turn itself on at a random interval and immediately freeze. It will stay this way until it dies or I do a hard shut down. Also, if I leave it alone and go afk while working, it will go into sleep mode and freeze completely.

i have a hp pavilion dv6 6123cl with windows 7 home premium. since last week, it crashes randomly and the led that indicates whether wifi is on which is on f12 button turns red (wifi off). it has happened surfing on the web (in mozilla firefox) watching Internet videos or playing games with wifi on. after the laptop freezes, i turned it off with the power button, turn it on and the wifi does not reconnect.
only if i turn it off and leave the laptop for say, half an hour and then turn it on, then wifi is able to connect. i have been looking at event viewer near the time of the freezes and there's an error that indicates that a service called trueservices stops with event id 7034. also there is a warning that 'wlan autoconfig service has successfully stopped' with event id 4001. i am quite newbie with windows 7.

Just today i read a post stating that java has a bad virus. Know that i ran a malwarebites scan and it found 1 harmful item and i deleted the item. After restarting my computer from a prompt, my lenova v570 laptop now turns on with a black screen and a movable cursor right after the windows "welcome screen".
ctrl + alt + delete does not work
I have tried in safe mode and it turns on properly. So, i tried to do what others sujjested on other forums, which was to " roll back my graphics driver" after that, nothing has change.

i am able to turn my computer on for a few seconds but then it automatically shuts itself off after a few seconds but the thing is after letting it sit for a couple seconds it says something about how the clocks on my processor have been overclocked too high and asks if it wants me to restore them, so i do that and then the computer works fine, but then when i turn it off and turn it back on it does the exact same thing until i get that message again.i've tried manually reducing the clocks on my cpu even though they were already at stock clocks and that didnt work
system specs:
windows 7 ultimate 64bit
intel core 2 quad q6600 @ 2.4ghz standard clocks
4gb ddr2-800 ram

whenever I turn on the laptop, it seems to boot into Windows 7, in that the "Starting Windows" text appears and the little animation of colors forming the logo shows, but as some point it fails. This message appears on screen:autocheck not found - skipping AUTOCHECK After a few seconds a BSOD shows up, but too fast for me to make out what it says. It used to, but after some hasty fix attempts no longer does, cycle around to a menu that informed me of this error:Status: 0xc000000f Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Here's the longer history:As some point in the past I decided to try out dual-booting Windows 7 and Linux on the laptop. I got it to a state where this worked fine. I had partitions roughly as follows:[Ubuntu][Windows 7]([Data and files][Boot]) The parentheses denote a logical partition. The Boot partition was very small and only held what was necessary to launch GRUB. This week, I realized that I hardly ever used the Linux partition and decided to get rid of it to reclaim storage space. This is where the trouble begins. I rebooted into a thumb drive that could run GParted and modified the hard drive layout in the following steps: Delete the Ubuntu partition Delete the Boot partition Grow the Data/Files partition to take up the space left by Boot Shrink the Windows 7 partition to make it faster to move Move the Windows 7 partition to the front of the volume Expand it to take up the remaining space. What I ended up with was: [Windows 7]([Data and files]) My naive and fatal mistake was to trust that the Windows Repair CD could fix any boot issues, and also that there would be no catastrophic hardware failures. Both of these assumptions turned out to be false.
First, the laptop's CD/DVD drive has either broken or is too unreliable to use. I have noticed it becoming more and more unstable over time, but now (when I need it most!) it simply does not seem to want to spin up and function at all. This forced me to create a Windows Repair USB drive. However, I can't load any installation media. This is because the laptop did not come with an install DVD. It had a recovery sector, which I cannibalized for the Linux partition. I did copy the stock recovery stuff to a series of DVDs, but, well...This is all to say that any solution that requires a DVD drive is straight out until I can replace it, which I'd like to consider a last resort. My expectations for the Windows Repair CD/USB have been dashed. Attempting to automatically fix boot issues either fails for some specific reason (I can probably reproduce it and provide the details, if necessary), with a dialog to send a report, or fails because it cannot detect any problems. I have tried a variety of things based on my own research to fix this through the command prompt: Running chkdsk /x /r on all drives. Does not find any errors. Running various bootrec commands: /fixmbr, /fixboot, /rebuildbcd, /scanos. All complete successfully, but the last 2 report finding 0 Windows installations. Using bcdboot and bootsect to recreate the bootloader. Again, no errors result, but it does not fix the issue. I guess it should have been obvious that none of the boot record fixes would matter, since the laptop does boot into Windows 7, briefly.

Today when I was surfing on my laptop (G74S Series) I wanted to restart the laptop because the internet crashed and it usually helps to restart. But I restarted it holding down the power button thing. So, I restarted it and while I was waiting, staring in to the screen, the blinking "_" thing when you start up was doing that for a while and nothing was happening, and a couple of seconds later the computer tells me that it can't boot the laptop/pc because no drive was found. I saw an error code but I didn't catch it, but it was something like "0x0000".So then on later, it sent me in to "Image Restore" But I have no image to restore with, so I cancel it, and then it sends me into the menu where. I can choose to "Restore Computer" or "Scan for startup errors" or something like that (I don't really have a such accurate memory.)And on the top it also says "os unknown on (unknown) local disk".Everytime I start the computer it sends me to that menu where I can choose to restore my computer etc..And I can't really do much about it since I don't have the windows 7 disc/dvd thing either. And this all came all so sudden I don't really know what to do.I don't have any backu or anything, and windows can only detect my /D: drive and not /C:, and I have my OS on /C/

I am aware of the fact that my current gfx cards may be low end for DNF (Radeon 5750x2) but what is happening is that the game shuts down the monitor ingame. Like shutting down the signal (?). This occurs anytime from 5 minutes in to the game up to 30 minutes or so.
Only solution to get signal back is a hard reset.I have set up a GPU monitoring software (AMD Overdrive) to measure temps and will post logs here later, my intention with this post is to figure out any other verification measure I might take to verify that this is indeed this game overloading gfx cards?

My first guess was that since we have an electrical instability in our home, perhaps the uneven flows of power would sometimes send a false signal to the power unit of the computer and trigger a start-up (quite often the lights in our home will briefly, and sometimes violently, wave up and down, especially at night).

i am facing a unique problem. I recently installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my pc. the pc runs normally for about 30 to 45 mins. but later monitor turns off with a "no signal" indication. but when i check, the processor is still running. then to get the signal back again, i must restart my system. then after boot up, i get the message saying windows was not shut down properly. i am not able to understand what is creating the problem. is the problem with hardware. or with windows 7. i never faced such kind of problem before when i was using windows xp SP3.

Motherboard: MSI Z68A-G45
Nvidia GTX 580 (Latest 285.62 Drivers)
Windows 7 64 Bit
I've had this computer about 2 months and everything was working great until today. This problem started out of nowhere. I didn't mess around with drivers etc.
Anyway, when I switch on my computer, the bios screen loads up..followed by the Windows 7 loading splash screen. Then just when the welcome screen should appear, my monitor turns to standby and says that it's not receiving an input signal.
I booted in safe mode and removed the drivers. I restarted my PC and it worked and my desktop appeared. However when i install the drivers again and restart the computer as required by the driver installation..the same problem as above reappears.
My monitor is connected via a HDMI cable to the GTX 580.
EDIT: When I go to device manager and right click the GTX 580..there is an option to roll back drivers. I clicked this and it now shows as a VGA Adapter. I restarted and my computer booted up...but obviously in low resolution as no previous drivers were ever installed since i bought the PC with up to date drivers.
I also just installed 290.53 BETA drivers. Restarted and my computer now just hangs at the welcome screen. I can still boot in safe mode which is how i'm managing to write this.

I recently bought an ASUS X54HY-SX060 laptop.
I installed Windows 7 on my own and started installing drivers. At first, I downloaded and installed drivers for ASUS x54h laptop, not x54hy because it says ASUS X54H on the sticker on the laptop.
I figured it out I was installing the wrong drivers so I installed new ones. Everything was fine, until for the last few days.
I turn on the laptop and everything is fine until the desktop shows and then my screen turns off. It's completely black. I have to restart my computer (sometimes few times) in order to work. I tried reinstalling the drivers. I completely deleted them with DriverSweeper and installed them again. I tried repairing the Windows, but the problem is still here.
I'd like to solve the problem without reinstalling the Windows (but I will do that if it's necessary). I googled the problem many times without finding anything useful.

Since about 1 month my PC turns randomly off. Sometimes after 10 hours, sometimes after 2. Mostly when in Idle or when I'm watching movies on a second Monitor (TV but it also crashes if it is unplugged so thats not the reason). Sometimes when I try to boot again it wont start except if I turn off the PSU for ~15 seconds. Sometimes when I reboot there's an error message "Asus Anti Surge was triggered".
I already tried:
- Replaced my OCZ ModXstream 600w with a Corsair AX750 PSU
- Stock settings in Bios
- Asus Anti surge deactivated
- Changed the power outlet to another one
My hardware:
i5 3570k @4,3 GHZ
Asus Sabertooth Z77
GeiL Evo Corsa 16GB
Sapphire AMD 6970HD
2 Harddisks 250/500gb
1 SSD OCZ Agility 3 120gb
And like I mentioned 2 different PSU's.
OCZ ModXstream 600w
Corsair AX750

I performed a new 32-bit install of Windows 7. For some reason, the monitor shuts off when windows starts. I found that after Windows boots, if I hit the "sleep" button on my keyboard, allow the computer to sleep, then wake the computer, the monitor turns on and everything is fine. Why would they force a person to put the PC into sleep mode every time the PC is booted? I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H motherboard (AMD 690G chipset). I'm using the integrated graphics and I removed everything from the PC except for the drives, monitor, and mouse.
