LAN Connection - Unidentified Network / No Internet
May 10, 2009
I have installed Win 7 - Build 7100. It worked for 2 hours and since then all I get is the network icon in the bottom right with the yellow triangle. It states unidentified network - no internet access. It is a NVIDIA Network controller on a ASUS Striker II Extreme board.
I had problems with my computer not connecting to the network sometimes after restarting my computer. That was usually fixed by simply unplugging and replugging into my outlet. I have a hard wire connection and my ethernet cable gets plugged into the wall and connects to the modem/router (whichever it is) from there. After I reset my computer this morning though, my computer has absolutely refused to connect to the network. I've tried resetting the router/modem and unplugging and replugging in my Ethernet cable. I noticed however in the network center it showed me connected to Network 8 (my standard home connection) for a few seconds but then it changes to unidentified public network and breaks connection to the Internet. Wireless is working fine and I'm infact typing all this on my iPhone 4.
I just got an Acer Predator. I transferred settings from XP using Windows Easy Transfer. The Internet connection was working perfectly. I installed Comodo Firewall, Avira AntiVir and ThreatFire. Then it could not connect. I plug the Ethernet cable into the XP computer and it connects no problem.I tried a system restore and it didn't fix it. I am running a thorough AviraAntiVir scan now on the Windows 7 system. I don't want to assume it is a virus, but the system was unprotected until I got the three security applications installed. I did also see some Comodo warnings and I approved going ahead because the security apps were installing at the time.
Basically my ethernet capability flew out the window ranomly the other day. Wireless works perfectly however.. before ...the other day.... it has been working solidly for almost a year Im plugged into a router which is running off my cable modem, both sitting less than a foot away from me. Also hooked up to the router is another computer, and my xbox the xbox works but the other computer cant seem to get a local connection either.
at first i assumed they were having an ip conflict of some sort, but why now after all this time?
I have tried:
- ipconfig /release - /renew - abolishing bonjour - taking the other pc completely off the router/network - updating drivers.....rolling back the updates - different cables different ports -plugging directly into the modem - and asking nicely
im on my laptop, Dell studio also the first time i noticed this happen was directly after having powered down the modem and router.

i am having problems connecting to Xbox live because it has no internet access and i have tried lots of things and nothing is working. here is the story behind it.... i had tried connecting many times before but it wouldn't work but one day i tried and i changed sharing on something (IDK what i forgot) and it worked so i had live for a couple of days. then one day my bro was online and the power went out in the house for a while, the next day i tried to connect and it wouldn't... on the when i plug in xbox ethernet to computer
For some reason my router and modem will not show correctly on my dell inspirion one desktop. Im running windows 7 and here are the net work connection deatils

The Connection was working about ten days ago and then suddenly stopped and read as an unidentified network no internet access. at one point is was not receiving packets but now it is but it still says no internet access on the IPv4 Connectivity. Media state is also enabled and the speed is 100.0 Mbps when i troubleshoot it says windows cant identify problem but in the details it says default gateway is available. when i use the cmd prompt ipconfig/all my local ethernet adapter has a physical address of all zeros.
My Toshiba Satellite L45d-s5976 suddenly started not connecting to the Internet via wireless router Linksys WRT 120N and motorola surfboard cable modem. It connects to the modem but I get "No Internet access" and at the top it says " Unidentified network" but underneath it shows being connected to the router but "NIA".roubleshooting instructs to cycle the modem which I have done several times, no help. The modem and router are good as we have an Acer netbook and two I phones connected to the Internet via the same router. I have gone over the forum and tried solutions for simuliar problems with no avail. This laptop and a Toshiba netbook we both Oliver in when we had a lightening strike 3 weeks ago. I gave up on the netbook and am trying to decide if I want to keep spending time on it.
PS please no comments on lighting protection. I have GE lighting protectors on the incoming power. The lighting came throughAn improperly installed cable connection which was not buried. The cable was not grounded and no fuseable link installedThe modem and router literally exploded and the strike jumped to the AC via the modem power supply and burned several wires and breakers.
I was lucky (?) enough to get a Windows 7 party pack but so far have had nothing but network issues. I have completely given up on wireless - its hopeless. Driver support from belkin is pretty lame.
My issue now is that i am trying to connect my original (NOT 360) xbox to my PC via cable. Simple and straight forward enough? I thought so too. Not the case.
Obviously i use a program like flash fxp to transfer files across which was all good in both vista and xp, but now whenever i connect the cable in Windows 7, i get the "Unidentified Network" and connection through flashfxp times out.
Like i said, I am NOT trying to connect to the Internet (i have just spent £140 on getting a new line hardwired for that), just trying to connect my old xbox to my pc to transfer some music & movies over.
I have tried using both static and DHCP, and I'm currently on static.
I have tried changing the network type from public to home and then to work. - no dice.
I have tried disabling Homegroup as i have read on some forums. - no dice
I have tried 'Diagnosing' the connection many many times wiht no success.
I have the newest drivers for my motherboard. - ASUS P5Q-E
I have done clear a CMOS.
I'm not exactly an expert with computers but i know a bit and have been at this for days and read gods knows how many different forum posts, but nearly all refer to Internet issues, whereas I've given up on the wireless network.
I just want to transfer my music and movies to and from my xbox.
Can anyone gives this tired mind some fresh ideas?
Recently when I try and connect to the internet my wireless connection network says it is an unidentified network with no internet access. This never happened before.
just this morning i disconnected all of a sudden, and now i can't connect to the internet with my ethernet cable, my wireless connection is fine though...I've been searching for solutions but nothing has worked so far, i really have no idea what to do.
A week ago I put together a new computer and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, every thingy installed just fine even the Ethernet drivers that came with the Motherboard disk installed ok, but I get 'Unidentified Network' for my network and only local connection. I have reinstalled the drivers many times. I am on another computer hooked up to the same router and modem, but it is running Vista instead, but the internet works just fine, and it is using the same cable as my other computer so it can't be the cable.

I am running win 7 and my LAC says "unidentified connection" no internet access. I can still connect wireless to other connection. I am running comcast broadband connection through a marvel yukon ethernet. I can't get my work done from home anymore!
My pc is connected a router with an ethernet cable. The router was reset and now the pc cannot connect to the internet. The message I get is,unidentified network access type No Internet access, work network connections, local area connections,we have rebooted, turned computer off then on, reset back to a previous time, changed the ethernet cable
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium ACER Aspire X3400 Nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 ethernet Cable internet SB1502 Cable modem
When I try to connect to the internet, it just says "identifying" then says it is an "unidentified network". I've tried:
Resetting the modem Checked all cables Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers Disabled & enabled the drivers It's set to automatically connect to DNS Updating the ethernet with the latest from Microsoft Ran ipconfig /release and renew Tried another modem and new cables Tried other houses with DSL & Cable internet
I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.
I decided to just post this as a new thread, as it appears to be getting positive results for most people. I highly recommend it anyway, as you will eventually encounter this if you apply all of your updates. For those of you reporting problems with your network after updating MS Office or installing Adobe CS3..If you are having Internet connection problems related to "Unidentified Network" showing and the "!" over your NIC icon, then this should take care of it: [code] If you do, stop it and disable it. It is actually the Bonjour DNS Responder Service, and I believe it is the cause of the "Unidentified Network."The Unidentified Network disappeared after stopping this service and a quick disable/enable of the NIC, restoring Internet access.I Actually just rebooted, edited this post, and then re-enabled the offensive service to see what would happen...Immediately after enabling the NIC and this bastard service, the "Unidentified Network" returned...stopped it, disabled it, disable/enable NIC...Internet back up and running and no "Unidentified Network." (woot - woot!)
I experienced this in both build 7100 and 7127...I am running 7127 now x64 - and discovered this fix just last night...so far so good just rebooted and then edited this post...I believe this fix will solve 7100 build issues too; however..I have not tested 7100 again yet.I also re-enabled Win 7's Discovery Mapping services, but always leave IPv6 disabled just because I am not using it.another two reboots, and a hard disk addition, and no problems with the Internet! - If you tried another fix such as changing the address of your network adapter, under "Advanced" - this is not necessary...I set mine back to "Not Configured." Everything is working fine as long as the Bonjour service is not running.. [code]
I recently had a virus that I had removed, but now that its gone, I still cannot connect to the internet. It does not detect the ethernet cable when its plug in, as in the LED does not light up green. This is what CMD shows me when I do ipconfig /all Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.
My computer had been working fine and while I was watching a movie on my computer the internet randomly gave out (wasn't streaming the movie or using the internet to watch it). Now I can't connect to the internet and it says that the network is Unidentified. I've tried a bunch of fixes such as uninstalling my drivers and letting windows reinstall them, changing my mac address, resetting the router, checked everything was plugged in, disable bonjour, tried releasing my ip and renewing it. I've tried so many things that have popped up on google that I have no idea what else to do. I don't want to reformat my computer if I can avoid it. If anyone has any idea I'd be so happy.I'm running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. Other computers on the network are able to connect to the internet and I can access files from other computers on the network.

This seems to be an old problem going back to win7's initial release yet people are still having the problem now. Everybody told me to install win7, "it's awesome", "everything just works", etc...and here I can't even get online.Anyway, what I can tell you is that I'm on a wired connection. Everything else connected to the same router works fine. I've got another computer running Vista, works fine. My xbox & ps3 both work fine. This computer that's having the problem was working fine when I was running XP and Vista on it. So it's clearly an issue with Windows 7.I've checked for the Bonjour service I saw mentioned in other threads, don't have it. The next thing I should probably try is assigning a static IP manually. I'm fuzzy on how to do that since I have no experience with win7.
Im having a big problem with connecting to the internet. It was working fine a couple of days ago but now i cant connect to the internet at all. I have a windows 7 compatible laptop and google chrome is the default internet Im using. I have checked the wireless network connection status which reads "IPv4 Connectivity No network access" "IPv6 Connectivity No network access" "Media state Enabled". The unidentified network is currently set at Public network and cant be switched to anything else. l have spent 4 hours trying to resolve the issue of reconnecting but have had no luck.

so I have recently made a new install of windows 7 and now I can't seem to acces the Internet. I am using PPoE connection for the Internet which requires username and pass from the ISP, and yes I'ved checked if they're well written thousands of times before posting this but it still seems it doesn't work. The error I receive is: Quote: Error 691: The Remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server. As I said before, I checked thousands of times if the data for the connection is valid and also called all the ISPs I have subscriptions from and said there's nothing wrong from their side. I used Windows 7 before for about two years and never had this issue. Also if I try to disable and enable the network again it says that it is unidentified, and under the title it says that there is no internet acces, but in fact there is. Anyone knows how to solve this issue? Been trying for two days almost now, and I'm out of ideeas. And another thing is if you're asking if I have anti virus software, no I don't as the Windows OS is freshly installed, I also did an online virus check but it seems there isn't any.
Working with a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS. I set it up in my home and applied all the updates. Bought it to the persons house and hooked it up there and all seemed fine except after some time the computer could not access the internet anymore. The icon in the task bar stated "Unidentified Network, No Internet Access". I went back and went into Network Sharing and removed all the unidentified networks which there were 2 and connected once again telling Windows 7 that this was a Home Network. It all worked fine, logged off, shut down and everything came back fine. I thought all was good until about 4 hours later I get a phone call saying they have no internet access again and that the taskbar icon again states Unidentified Network No Internet Access. What can I do to resolve this?
Now i upgrade Vista Home Basic to Window7 Ultimate during setup, i selected Home network and connect the wireless network but I can't access internet .What should I do ? Should I change to public network?
I have a new Packard Bell running Windows 7 Home Premium. The tower has been replaced once as although I could initially connect wirelessly to the internet, it became more and more problematic. When the shop checked it they said it was dropping the connection and therefore swapped the tower (charging me for backing up my info to my hard drive) At the time I asked if could be a Windows 7 issue and I was told no.
The new tower connected to the internet for about 2 minutes before dropping the connection and since then I have had the little yellow warning triangle and "unidentified Network - No internet access" message although occasionally it does identify the network but still had no internet access.
Even when showing the unidentified network message, it still shows that the Wireless Network Connection 2 is connected to the home network.
I don't know what information you need, or how to get it but am willing to try ANYTHING you can suggest!
The other computers are all happily connected - I am using my netbook to try to find the answer to the issue.
I have not loaded any of my own info onto the new system as thought it best to sort the issue first. If I can't use the computer for the internet it is pointless me having it and I will return it to the shop!
I have a Windows 7 32bit desktop and Amilo Li3710 Laptop with also Windows 7 32bit.
Both have WLAN.
motherboard of desktop pc is P5k deluxe Wi-Fi edition.
I made on desktop pc an ad hoc connection with protection and security key.
Turned on wlan on laptop and it was detected. But as i try to connect, at the end i get unidentified network and can't connect to Internet.
But my first try was a success and i had Internet and a working home group.
Now i don't know how sometimes i get home group (on my laptop i can share music, videos etc thats on my desktop pc) but i still don't have Internet. Or in the worst chase both are gone.
Now i noticed when i go to Network and Sharing Center and then enter "Change advanced sharing settings" i see that a Public is the (current profile). How do i change that to be the Home?
I've read multiple posts about this problem but no concrete solutions. My problem is a bit different than the usual usecase.
Win 7 64 bit
Asus p5k se (integrated NIC)
Everything was working fine (a couple of months) until today. The only thing I did was trying to install some extra memory into my machine. That failed (but is a subject for another post). Problem started happening after that, but I find it hard to believe that it the two things have a direct connection.
In my case, the NIC manages to get an ip from the router (this is a direct cable connection, not wireless) and the gateway address is correct. However I still get the Unidentified Network - No Internet Access error. I'll clarify that the IP and gateway info appears on the Details screen of the network adapter. The main status screen shows (among other things):
IP4 connectivity : No Internet Access
I cannot ping my router. It's as if the negotiation phase between the computer and the router goes fine and then nothing. Looking at the DHCP table in my router I can see that my machine appearing there with a 192.168.1.2 IP.
I tried all the usual solutions:
Uninstall driver and reinstall
no DHCP
turn off computer
power off and take out cable
disable and enable adapter
I also saw that some software named bonjoure is blamed for a similar problem but I don't have that installed.
My issue i'm having at the moment is that i can't connect to the internet nor can i connected to my home 's intranet LAN network.I turned on my computer on Monday to find that i got the Black Screen Of Death (Black screen with only the cursor after logging in to account)I booted into safe mode. Run several virus scans with multiple programs (Avast, Spybot S&D and Malware Bytes) as i hear the Black SOD is caused by malware. I found no threats. I couldn't use AVG or Kaspersky as they need an internet connection to update to most recent version, not helpful as i need an uptodate database!I also tried booting into safe mode with networking. This did not work. So i felt that there was a networking issue. I then booted into safe mode and disabled ALL network adapters including Hamachi and nvidia nforce networking controller. After doing so i booted normally and i got hold of my computer again! got past log in screen. the lot. I Have also noticed that my computer is slower than it was the day before. And it hangs for several minutes on the 'shutting down' screen.I have re-enabled networking controllers and reinstalled drivers for the nVidia nforce network controller. (i have also noticed a lacking of networks adapters in the device manager compared to what was present before disabling all network adapters/ controllers.)This did not work.
I tried pinging my router. And other computers, this didn't work.I also tried 'ipconfig /renew /release' command prompts and windows timed out connecting to some adapters. While typing command 'Ipconfig /all' i noticed that there was a lot of information which i feel that shouldn't be there!! (I'm at school at the moment, i will post information found in CMD prompt I tried 'CHKDSK /C /R' I recieved no errors I manually inputted the i.p. DNS & suffix mask address, nothing is working!
I've tried every online post about this issue that I can find and it's still not resolved.
I just installed Windows 7 on my PC. I did a clean install and my old system was Windows XP. I haven't installed anything on Windows 7 yet except for the below mentioned. Also, my internet works fine when XP is installed on it. Here is the list of things I've tried to be able to get online:
I've deleted the network adapter and let windows reinstall it.
I've updated the network card adapter to the lastest version. (it's a
marvell yukon 88E8001/8003/8010)
I've updated my motherboard's bios to the newest version.
I've updated my motherboard nforce chipset with the latest drivers.
After noticing that my computer is assigning an ip address of 169.254.157.90, I set a static ip to 197.168.1.9, set up the DNS servers, etc. that still did not work.
I've tried disabling the IPv6.
I've disabled the IP helper in services, msc
I checked for the service that adobe and itunes installs (which aren't installed), and it wasn't there.
I've manually set my network address.
I've updated my router's bios to the newest version.
I've tried connecting to the internet directly through the modem, without the router.
I've disabled the Windows Firewall.
I've edit my registry to change my DHCP Broadcast Flag.
I tried connecting the cable modem via usb but there doesn't appear to be a driver supported by windows 7 for my Ambit U10C018 through usb.
I've tried ipconfig /release and then /renew. I've also tried the /flushdns
I've tried disabling and reenabling the network adapter.
I've tried pinging the router and other computers as well as google, usually nothing gets out, but a few times it just times out.
I've watched my attached devices in my routers page on another computer and I do see the windows 7 computer try to connect but drop out.
And I've tried many combinations of the above mentioned.
Any other ideas would be appreciated, I may just try to purchase a new nic card and see if that helps.
And I should mention, I was able at one point to connect to google, but it disconnected me again before it finished loading the whole page and I haven't been able to get to that point again. Also, it does show that I connect to an Unidentified Network if I let the computer sit long enough and sometimes it will say it is connected to the internet, but I can't actually load any internet pages.
I was on my laptop on Friday and the internet would connect when I turned on my laptop. So I just thought I needed to retype the security key. Nope. So after that I reboted my router. (Sorry for my horrible spelling). That didn't work either. So I came here and saw a number of people had the same problem. I tried every thing pluging my laptop into the router, netsh winsock reset, disable and enable the network.
