It Faild When At Defraging

My computer is running really slow, I really need to defrag it but when I go through my control panel to the right place and press defrag it starts to do something then just stops. And it does the same thing when I try to scan it to see if it needs defragging. No matter how many times I click the button it always does the same thing and won't let me defrag it.
