Installing Win7 On HP Pavilion Dv6700

I have an HP laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. Im planning to install Windows 7. I am a member of the IEEE Computer Society, and have an account in IEEE and the Computer Society which is a MSDN Academic Alliance Software Center. I downloaded Windows 7 Professional (x86). Then unzip the file and run the setup, but i could only get to the Upgrade or Custom page of the installation.

Tried to do both and just get a message box that says that the installation couldn't be done, and that I should check the Set Association in Control Panel, so I think there is a file that doesn't know what program use to open it. I searched in the Internet and found an article telling that in order to upgrade Vista to 7 I should have the SP2 installed, so I downloaded the SP2 for Vista and installed it. Then I tried again to install Win 7, but it just do the same thing as before.

I burned the setup files to a DVD. I run it when turning on the laptop to boot from the DVD. On the screen appears some information about the laptop, then stay still on "A:". And I get stuck there as I don't know what commands I should use to begin the installation.

I've got some questions about it.

Does the version of Vista have something to do with it?

Can I only install a specific edition of 7 on my laptop, or I can install any edition on it?
Does the 'burn to DVD' have a specific burning settings, like set from the DVD burner program to be a boot disc?

How should the boot installation must be? Is there any command I should put?

System Information about my laptop:

-Windows Vista Home Premium - Service Pack 2
-Hewlett-Packard
-Model: HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC (it appears in HP webpage as dv6926nr)
-Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00 GHz
-RAM: 3.00 GB
-System type: 32-bit Operating System

Does anyone has tried successfully installing Windows 7 on HP dv6700 laptop? Does it work? I am asking because HP is not officially supporting it on all laptops (including this one).

Win7 On HP Pavilion Dv9500t
It seems that HP, in their dubious wisdom, has decided not to provide driver support for the entire dv9xxx series of portables.  The PC seems extremely capable so I'd like to keep it and upgrade to Windows 7.  Has anyone got this combination working?  If so, can you provide a source for the drivers?

Install Win7 On HP Pavilion S7713W
Ok here is my problem. I have a HP S7713W and I current;y run XP Pro. I bought the Upgrade disk for Windows 7 Pro. The install runs perfectly until I reach the point where I should enter product key info. The screen goes black. No cursor, nothing. I restart, see the windows logo, and again blank screen. I went back to XP and updated the BIOS.

No luck. It will not start in safe mode, I get the message that windows needs to finish installing first. The system runs Nvidia which is directly on the motherboard, not a seperate graphic card so the monitor plugs directly into the motherboard.

Win7 X64 HP Pavilion DV6-1140ez Hardware Not Recognized
I'm trying to fix the last hardware problems I find with Windows 7 x64 RC1 version after battling for some of the hardware (touchpad Synaptics detected but not completely functional - had to install Synaptics official Vista 64 complete driver to make it work with vertical scroll ....)  on my HP Pavilion I just bought one month ago.

I find this hardware not wanting to be installed in unspecified section of Devices :

- A309 that I presume to be the DVB T Tuner but even with official driver no luck.
- 3 Base System Devices located on PCI bus 6, device 0, function 1, 3 and 4. I presume them to be related to motherboard components such as SMB, and bus stuff ...
- SD Host Controller that I can't figure out why it seems to appear in unspecified. Though I didn't try to use it .... so not sure it's not functional.

Errors I Came Across When Installing Win7 RC
Just thought I would throw 2 errors (as I describe them) that I encountered during my installation experience of Windows 7 RC. So I decided to install the Windows 7 RC on a spare machine which is used every now and again. It's a 10 year old machine and according to the Windows 7 upgrade advisor beta all hardware requirements are met, except the RAM, the maximum amount is installed, which is 512mb but 7 runs acceptably, which is just brilliant, dare I say better than the XP installation on the primary hard drive.

OK, to the point, the graphics card installed is a Nvidia Geforce 6200 and according to the upgrade advisor it is compatible with aero. The same graphics card is installed on another machine (much more modern than this one!) and aero is enabled on the 7 installation with onboard disabled via device manager.   After installation no aero themes were available to choose. So, I disabled the onboard graphics, and installed the driver for the Geforce 6200 via Windows update, however still no aero themes.

So I uninstalled the card via device manager, restarted, and drivers were installed automatically on login. However, still no aero themes. So I went to restarted the machine and went to nvidias windows 7 driver site, downloaded driver, installed and restarted. After this aero themes were available.

Woo! Also when I attempted to install 7 from within XP setup wouldn't begin as the a message came up saying the machine didn't support ACPI, which it does. The machine has the latest bios available, so I ran the installation from boot up, and no such message came up, and installation went ahead. So they may not be errors as such but in my opinion aero themes should have been available initially, and the ACPI message should never have come up from within XP.

Win7 Freezes After First Stage Of Installing
I'm trying to install Windows 7 32bit on one of my drives via Vista, I click install on the DVD and click the drive. It does the first stage of installing and expanding files (whatever that is!). Then it restarts.. upon restart it boots onto Windows Setup and I get the logo which glows for a while then freezes.

I've looked this up and i've removed ram so I just have 1stick of 1gig and i've unplugged various USB items except my keyboard and mouse and still get the issue.

Any ideas?

Query About Installing Win7 On D Drive
I have a 320 gb hardrive which is split into 2 partitions at the moment, C and D. Unfortunately, my C drive, which has Windows XP installed on it at the moment, is only 15gb. I know I need atleast 20GB for a Windows 7 64-bit installation.

As I don't have access to another drive or a large enough USB to back my files up in at the moment, I was wondering if I should just follow the guide here and install Windows 7 in my D drive instead. The thing I wanted to confirm was this:

I read in this thread that if I install Windows 7 on D drive, it'll read the drive it is installed on as C. Is that true? Because I was wondering if I could just install Windows 7 in D drive and then format C which has XP in it (but none of my data).

Then I could rename the blank drive to D. Is this scenario possible? To cut a long story short, I want to install Windows 7 on my PC, get rid of XP, but my C drive is only 15gb and my D drive has all my data (movies, pictures, documents etc) in it.

Installing Win7 On A New Hard Drive
I have decided to install an additional internal hard drive to my system, a larger one. What are everyone's thoughts on me installing Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V on the new hard drive and then install 7 on it? Or should I use VPC instead, I already have the Server 2008 but haven't installed it yet. Or, how or what should I do to the hard drive?

Can i just install Wnidows 7 directly to it or what is the best way to do this. I do have 5 computers at home here that are all networked that I try various things on, going to school now.

I think that I would like to have all of my programs on the new drive or is this a bad idea or not necessay? What should I do and how please? Do I need to format and partiction the new drive as well before I do anything with it?

Bsod While Installing Win7 On Vhd
I am using windows 7 build 7260 as my primary Os.

I wanted to try Windows 7 Home Basic edition. So I modified build 7201 iso and started installing it into a vhd. After the first restart during installation process it gave me a BSOD. It is telling me that the drive containing the vhd file does`nt have enough space so that the vhd could expand. But i already have enough space left in that drive that is more than 11Gb while windows 7 takes only 8Gb to install.

Installing Win7 On Dell - Restrictions
When Windows7 ships, I will be installing it on my laptop (Dell Latitude D631). This machine currently has Win XP Pro installed on a SATA HDD of 120Gb capacity.

My plan is to remove this disk & put it to one side, and install Windows 7 64bit on a brand new SATA HDD. I have bought a 500Gb WD drive and ideally plan to create 2 partitions - one for Windows, one for my data.

My questions are:

1. Any upfront advice on pitfalls of this approach?

2. Any knowledge (I can't specifically find any data on this, having trawled all sorts of places) of any drive capacity limitation for my Dell laptop - I have heard of 120 or 137 or other Gigabyte sizes as a limit so am now a little concerned that my lovely new 500Gb drive may not be fully usable.

If there's any inherent limitation, what's the way around this? Or will the BIOS 'autodetect' and see all 500Gb or is there something I need to do in BIOS or elsewhere to ensure the whole drive is visible and usable?

3. Finally...can I use the Windows 7 install process to create the 2 or even 3 partitions successfully?

WUSB600N + Win7 Auto Installing Own Drivers
I use a Linksys WUSB600N wireless adapter and I'm having a problem with it. Every time my adapter is detected, Windows 7 installs its own drivers which are terrible. I can't even install the drivers I want! I have searched everywhere but haven't any luck for solutions. I've even tried installing my drivers over Windows', but that doesn't work well. I have Windows set to "Never install driver software from Windows Update" but it still does.

The setup.exe for my drivers requires the adapter to be plugged in to finish installation, but I can't do that with Windows' drivers inevitably going to install first. Nor can I manually install drivers with the Device Manager if it also requires the adapter to be plugged in. I'm guessing the DriverStore is causing Windows to auto-install these faulty drivers?

Installing Win7 And Partitioning A 1TB Drive
I am looking to use my 1TB seagate SATA II drive for my Windows 7 installation, and was wondering how I should go about partitioning it and how large each partition should be or what I sould put on each partition.

My system will be used for the following:

Computer Games that take up a lot of space (World In Conflict, Empire Total War, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty, etc.)

Music

Video files/ recordings (I have a Hauppauge tv card)

Some Photos

Basic apps like office

Data files

Which of the above items should I put on the OS partition, and which should get their own partitions? How large should the OS partition be compared to the other partitions? Seperate partition for games?

Having one giant drive might be nice to try, but then I would have no where to put my excess video files if I ever needed to reformat. The 1TB drive accomodates whatever video files I can't store on my 2 smaller drives and currently has 120 GB of video on it.

In addition to my 1TB drive, I also have 2 more internal drives, a 250GB Maxtor ATA which is filled with video files and a 200GB WD SATA that I use for my TV card and storing the recordings I make until I have a chance to edit them or move them to a differet drive.

I have a seperate 250GB external drive for backing up data files and music, so the backup issue is taken care of.

Error Code 0x80070570 Installing Win7
I downloaded the Windows 7 32-bit ISO from MSDN and used the iso to install the OS on a VMWare virtual machine with no errors. Then I burned the ISO image to a DVD and booted up my Dell Optiplex 755 to wipe and clean install Windows 7. Everything goes smoothly until the installer starts unpacking files. It sits at 0% for about ten minutes then shows this error...

Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, then restart the installation. Error Code: 0x80070570At first I suspected the burn.

Since I had installed the OS to a VMWare image by mapping the iso, I know the iso is good. I burned a second disk at the slowest speed setting my machine offers, and tried the second disk with the same results.Any idea how I can overcome this prolen?

Hard Drive Has Old Data After Installing To Win7
I recently did the custom install of windows 7, that I downloaded through my school's engineering program.  So I did the installation without a disc but it is a valid copy of Windows 7.  Anyway I upgraded from 32 bit vista to 64 bit 7 and I did the custom install thinking that it would overwrite the old os.

The install went through fine, but when I got on my computer and I went to restore my old files from my external I realized my internal hard drive was still almost full. I can not figure out how to get rid of the vista operating system, and data so that I can free up my hard drive space.

Whenever I boot it just goes straight to 7, it doesn't ask if I would like to boot in vista. Any information on how to get rid of the old vista os and all the files that are with it would be greatly appreciated.

Installing Win7 - Disk Drive Issues
I know there were several discussions concerning this issue but I've tried a multitude of things and I still can't get this installation to work.  I tried to install windows 7 on my machine that previously had XP, the first installation went well, but then after setting everything up and restarting, I kept on getting a boot manager error no matter what I did (even after disabling quick boot), so I decided to try to reinstall windows 7.

The problem though was that when I tried, it kept on giving me errors at the installation screen stating that there was no driver found for my DVD Drive.  Now I've tried swapping out the drive, trying to find multiple drivers for my motherboard and DVD drive, trying sata and IDE, switching out harddrives, etc, but its still having issues and saying that it can't find the drivers.

I even tried reinstalling xp, updating the drivers and then trying to install windows 7 again but it still didn't work. Any ideas on what I can do?  I also tried burning another installation copy and it didn't work.

Edit: By the way I already tried using a USB DVD Drive, and currently I have a M3N72-D ASUS Motherboard with a Dual Core AMD processor.  I know this hardware has to be compatible with windows 7..

Installing Win7 On A Seperate Hard Drive
I want to install windows 7 on my other HD, the 200GB HD which is currently unformated, and I want my windows xp 32bit install to be safe from anything windows 7 might do to break it.

I've heard that windows7 can installs a bootloader that can cause issues with a windows xp install, or that it might wipe the boot sector or something if I install it while my windows XP HD is connected. So im planning to remove my WinXP HD from my Mobo before I install windows 7 on my other 200GB HD. Then after I complete the install and I want to go back to my windows xp install, I will just remove my 200GB drive with windows7, and connect my winxp drive back. At a minimum will this protect my windows xp install form windows 7?

And more importantly is there a better way to switch between the two installs, without putting my windows XP install at risk. After the install, say I plug my windows xp HD back in, and then just switch the boot order in the bios each time I want to switch between my xp HD, and win7 HD, would that work ok, and would my windows xp install still be uneffected by the windows 7 install on the other drive?

Also in terms of drivers for Windows 7, I'm hearing a lot of different things about which drivers to use for my GTX260. Some people say let windows update get the drivers for it, others say this will render my GTX260 uselesss for windows 7, because of some problem with those drivers. I've also heard to use the vista 64bit drivers from Nvidia, or some other beta drivers.  Wondering which drivers I should try first for a Evga Nvidia GTX260.

Using this Hardware:

MoBo: Evga Nvidia nForce 680iCPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 2.66GhzGFX: Evga GTX 260 Core 216 896MBRAM: OCZ 2x2GB DDR2 1066 [PC2 8500]PSU:  SilverStone ST75F 750W [4x +12V@ 18A each]HD1: Samsung 500GB 7200RPM SATA HD [Windows XP 32bit]HD2: Seagate 200GB 7200RPM SATA HD [Future Win7 64bit]

Installing Win7 On Asus K8V SE Deluxe
I have been working on this for about 5 hours now, searching many forums, downloading drivers, changing Bios settings, etc... but nothing is working. I realize there is a compatibility issue with KV8 and Win7 but a guy at Asus said it might be able to be fixed with certain drivers. I have been fooling around with VIA and Fasttrak 378.

My hard drive is working fine as I am using it right now, but when I get to the Win7 installation to choose where to save it, it does not detect a hard drive. This happened when I tried to install XP pro 64 a while ago as well. How can I make it appear? My system is:

ABS built
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
2gb G.Skill Ram
160gb Maxtor SATA hd

I guess I'm confused as to why my hard drive is even RAID configured being that there is only 1.

Guide To Installing Un Signed Drivers In Win7 X64
Since I made the Move to 64-bit a while back, Every once in a while, I would run into a Problem where I needed to Install Driver that was Un-Signed.

As A Security measure in the 64-bit Versions of Vista/7, All Drivers must come with a Secure Digital Signature.

This is not a large problem anymore with the fact that Most Drivers are Signed nowadays. But Older Hardware Drivers tend not to be Signed.

There is a Simple way around this Block.

Open the Command Prompt in Admin Mode (Type "CMD" into the Start Menu and press "Ctrl+Shift+Enter") Enter this Command: bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS Now when you Re-Boot, You should be able to Install those Pesky Un-Signed Drivers.

Installing Win7 RC On Acer - Could Not Find CD / DVD Drivers
I copied all the Windows 7 RC files into my bootable USB pendrive, using de UI and even command promptBut, once I boot up my Acer One from the USB, and after I click "Install now" after selecting my language, I get a Dialog box, "windows setup can't continue because could not find proper CD/DVD drivers" prompting me to search for CD/DVD drivers, because setup couldn't find them
For the name of the logic, of course I have no CD/DVD drivers! the netbooks have NO CD/DVD drive! And that was all, after long days of waiting after the fabulous Beta (tested in the same Acer One), I won't be able to install the RC...

This is REALLY dissapointing!More information:I did NOT burn the ISO image, I just mounted it and copied all its contents into my bootable USB, as I did in order to install the BetaI booted directly from my USB pendrive, so no windows registry problem applies, because none of my installed windows even startedThe Acer One doesn't have any CD/DVD drive, and I never plugged one to it, that's why I can't understand why the setup mentions a CD/DVD drive
