Import Vista Media Center Settings Into Win 7

Is there a way to import Vista Meda Center settings including scheduled recordings into Windows 7? I know MCE Backup worked for Vista, but I tried it with Windows 7 and it didn't import any of my settings or schedules.

Backup Scheduled Recording / Settings For Media Center
I'm looking for a method to backup my scheduled recording/settings for media center before performing a clean install of windows 7.

I don't mind manually copying the files and replacing them, but I don't know their locations.

How To Have Media Center Show As A Choice In Default Program Settings ?
I might be mistaken, but when I first installed Windows 7 I had a choice of Windows Media Center to play a DVD. My original installation started to crash, tried to reinstall but installation kept crashing.....found out it was because of a Memory stick going bad.

Upon re-installation, there is no longer a choice in program defaults for Media Center to play the DVD, nor is there a choice for Media Center to chose from if the default setting is set to "alsways ask". The only program choice to play the DVD is Media Player. Am I mistaken, or should there be a choice of Windows Media Center also?

TV Slow To Start - Media Center Did NOT Upgrade From Vista
I used Media Center extensively under Vista Ult 32bit but after I upgraded to 7 RC 32 bit, I was unable to find Media Center short cuts (either by searching or by driving through the start menu).  ADD WINDOWS FEATURES, MEDIA showed MC was installed but as I said, I could not find it.  I uninstalled/reinstalled MC which added the shortcuts.

Upon first launch I was surprised to see that I had no choice but to launch the LIVE TV wizard but on the first screen it said it had found old setting and I approved it using them.  However, LIVE TV would not launch after that.  Soooo, I ran the wizard again, but told it NOT to use the existing info and to use the full wizard.  Each screen of the wizard was correctly populated with my old settings, so there was little to do but click next.  LIVE TV then started correctly and quickly.

I LIVE TV and MC several times and now it almost always displays a FINDING TUNER type message (sorry I can't recall the text!) and after about 30 seconds LIVE TV starts.

The tuner is a single Haupauge 150.

Neither of these problems occured on the only other desktop machine which I use exclusively as a theater running Media Center (and was upgraded in exactly the same way from Vista Ult to 7 Ult RC).  The only notable difference between the two machines is that my theater is 64 bit and my desktop is 32 bit.

Import Settings For Scanner
i have recently upgraded a clients computer to windows 7. They use an AIO Canon MP600 printer/scanner

The first time they scanned through devices and printers, an import/TAG box appeard asking them where to save the pictures, do you want to tag the picture etc...

The many time they scan after, it doesnt show up and it always saves to the last chosen place. Its not what they want.

Is there a way to get this back, is there a way to reset the import settings when scanning documents?

Win 7 Media Center And DVD Folders
I have hundreds of DVDs stored on a Windows Home Server which I can then play on Windows XP MCE in various rooms in my house. Before anyone says anything about pirated DVDs, I own every DVD I have on the harddisk - it's just for convienience.

The DVDs have all had their region protection removed, and are stored as files (i.e. VIDEO_TSvideo_ts.ifo, VIDEO_TS*.vob, etc..). The movies play perfectly using Media Player Classic HomeCinema, so it's not a security issue or codec problem.

In Windows XP, I could play the DVDs in MCE by navigating though the folder structure I have to get to the DVD I wanted to watch. The DVDs are in folders using the same structure as a DVD (i.e. "\homeserversomePathsomeMovieVIDEO_TSvideo_ts.ifo"), and work perfectly in Windows XP MCE with DVD Gallery turned on.

In Windows 7 Media Center there seems to be two options:

- Movies, which ignores the folder structure, but plays the DVD folders. This is of no help to me as the folder structure is essential to knowing which disc is being played as I have multiple discs with paths like "MediumSeason 1Episodes 01-04VIDEO_TS.ifo" all of which show up as just "Episodes 01-04".

- Videos, which shows me the folder structure, but doesn't play the DVD folders. I can play individual .VOB files, but obviously that's a real pain and navigating to the right file is a nightmare.

Is there a method to turn on DVD Folder support in Videos like in Windows XP MCE? Or a method to allow folder navigation under Movies?

Setting Up A Home Media Network Using Media Center And Media Extenders
I am trying to setup a media network for my new home that's being built.  What I want to accomplish is a network that can feed my 5 TVs live feeds or be able to record up to 4 or so TV shows at once.  But I wanted it all to come from one centeralized location.  I know that I can do this with Windows Home Server and Windows 7 Media Center and then I know that I need a media extender for each TV.  Other than that what else do I need?

Can I just have one cable box plugged into the Server and have that feed all the TVs or do I need one cable box for each TV and do I need a Tuner Card in the Server for each TV?

How many TV Cards can Windows 7 support at one time?  How many Media Extenders can support one TV Card?

I want to store my movies and music and pictures in this same server that I'm using for the live TV and DVR so what specs on the server do you recommend?

Easily Backup & Import Your Wireless Network Settings In Windows 7
One of the biggest annoyances when setting up wireless networks is remembering the security key and typing it correctly so that you can connect all laptops and netbooks to it. Windows 7 makes it easy to export your wireless settings from one machine to another.
The backup of the wireless networks settings can be easily done from Windows 7, and the settings can be saved to a USB stick, and then the settings can be imported on laptops & netbooks running Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Media Center Freezes On Change Media File With Waiting To Finish Network I/O
I upgraded my Media Center computer to Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) some months ago and ever since the Media Center Application occasionally freezes. It seems to happen when there is a rapid change of what is played for example when a track is skipped.

Looking in resource monitor I can see that the in the wait chain for the service "svchost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation)" that it is waiting to finish network I/O and other processes seems to be waiting for this process.

I use DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev C)

Driver version: 2.1.6.0

The computer is part of homegroup.

Any suggestions on how to continue analyzing and resolving this problem? I thought I would try with a different network adapter but I would like to know if there is any config changes I might try first.

Media Center DVD Play Stutters, Media Player Doesn't
Playing a DVD via Media Center sees it pause (freeze) for a second or two every 10 minutes or so. No other apps are open at the time.

Closing WMC and playing the DVD in Media Player doesn't show this behaviour.

Booting into Vista 32 and then playing the DVD gives no pauses on either WMC or WMP.

Dual-boot Dell E520, ATI X1300 card, 2GB RAM, loads of HD space.  No other codecs than the Win7-supplied ones have been installed. The Paging file is set to a fixed 4 GB on a separate partition.

Media Player 12 / Media Center - Multiple Cds Albums Sorting In Library
I have some problems to sort the music files in the library.

If there is an album with more than one disc, the sorting is like that:

1 - track 1 CD1
1 - track 1 CD2
2 - track 2 CD1
2 - track 2 CD2
etc...

I would like more logical sorting like this:

1 - track 1 CD1
2 - track 2 CD1
etc...
1 - track 1 CD2
2 - track 2 CD2
etc...

Do you see what I mean ? It seems that WMP/WMC doesn't sort using the "disc number" tag of the file (as it should be).

Is there any way to sort it fine without creating 2 different albums for a 2 disc album ?

Problem With Default H.264 Codec In Media Player / Media Center
There is a problem with the new default H264 codec in Windows 7

I have around 380 DVDs ripped to H264 by using Xillisoft DVD Ripper (apple tv h264 profile) bit rate max 800, frame rate 25

Now in Vista media center all of these movies played just fine (using the Community Codec Pack)

Windows 7 default codec pack and only about 10 of the ripped films actually work, the rest of them are just a black screen, some play with sound, some dont play at all.

This is when I try and play them in Win7 Media Player or Media Center.

Now if I use Quicktime or another media player (VLC for instance) using the CCCP codec pack, they work perfectly fine in windows 7 (but still dont work in Win 7 Media Player or Media Center).

Some something is seriously screwed in the Microsoft codecs

Mapped Network Media Not Present In Media Center
Music stored on a mapped network drive does not appear on Media Center or Media Player.
The folder can be seen clearly in "libraries" and tracks in the mapped drive can be selected and play perfectly through Media Center but only one at a time. Also whilst playing, the backdrop is a grid of images of all of the albums in the "invisible" folder.

If I copy albums from the networked folder to c:users...My Music then add this folder to the libraries, then these albums show and play clearly in Media Center.

Import Large Music Library To Media Player 12 From Wmp 11
I have a large music collection and it will take some time to go through and search again for all my music that I previously searched for in Media Player 11 in Vista. Is there an easy way of setting all the albums to "found" to stop me having to do it all again?

Other than that, it seems to be working really well for a beta. Almost ready for primetime!

Language Packs For W7 - Import From VISTA
Anybody know if during the RC other language packs will be available.

If not could I "Poodlefake" or Backport the language packs from the VISTA system.

I'd like to try the Icelandic pack so some of our "Normal" i.e non technical users back home can check / try Windows 7.

(Of course they all speak excellent English -- like most Scandanavian countries English is a mandatory language in Schools here and even as adults around 90% here speak it fluently but it would be nice to test Windows 7 in a "Working environment" away from the IT testing areas to see how it performs in day to day work. (Maybe not 100% mission critical stuff but for reasonably robust office situations).

Media Center Codec
I'm having problems play an original DVD movie. I get sound but no video. I tried doing a re-install and it fixes the video problem, but then I have no sound.

I think either my Audigy 2 drivers or my ENLTV(which is the a program my tv tuner uses to play live tv) is interfering with the default codec.

My question is...."How can I set my windows media center/player codecs to default or fix this issue?" VLC plays DVD fine. And all other video formats play fine on WMC as well.

I tried to get the fault condition, but the screen went dark within a few seconds of bsod...

Media Center On Via Epia EX
I recently downloaded windows 7 for my Epia EX PC. It works fine except that Mediacenter won't work in full screen mode. It just shows a flashing mouse.

I'm currently using a s-video cable to a crt TV, but I added my LCD monitor and tried to make Mediacenter fullscreen on that in dual monitor mode, but that didn't work either.

When I had it full screen on one display, and selected another window on the other display it would appear in full screen untill I clicked back onto it and it would disappear.

The graphics are onboard and are "Via/S3G UniChrome Pro II IGP" and fully updated using Microsoft Update.

Any idea why it wouldn't be working?
