Win7 is driving me nuts. I just tried to link Audacity to the lame_enc.dll mp3 encoder, but it couldn't find it inc:windowssystem32, where it was (according to xplorer2) and where it was supposed to be. I had to move it to another folder before the link would happen.I'm the only one who has access to this computer, let alone uses it, and I'm SICK of fighting with "permissions," "blocking," and all the rest of "security." Isn't there some way to just turn it all off?
I got a virus (winupgro.exe). Afterwards, that program showed up in my task manager, but I was unable to end the process. I also got a notification that I would need to restart my computer in order to turn off UAC. Since I did not want to turn off UAC, I went back in, and turned the UAC back on. I then ran a virus scan with Norton. It didnt seem to find my virus, so I just shut down the computer.Winupgro.exe no longer shows up in task manager, but I cannot turn on Windows Security Center - getting the dialog box "The Windows Security Center service can't be started".Malwarebytes was able to find and remove it, but I still cannot open windows security center (after a restart).I used FreeCommander to run create md5 checksums. After searching the output file, I did not find any references to winupgro or its checksum string.
Yesterday I noticed the red flag stating that the Windows Security Services Center was off. When I tried ti turn it on I got an error message saying that it can't be started. I searched some posts that said to access the services.msc file but when I tried that I get another message saying that "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either..
Recently I got a Antivirus Antispyware virus on my computer, I ran Rkill and then Malwarebytes and it found the virus and I removed it. However now my Windows 7 Security Center firewall and my McAfee firewall will not turn on. With my Windows 7 Security center, when I try and turn it on it prompts me with a message that says 'Action center cannot turn firewall on, turn windows firewall on manually' so I click on that and I click the recommended settings and it gives me a message saying 'Windows firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070422'. My McAfee fire wall will turn on for a second and then automatically turn off. I have tried many things and seeked for many solutions but so far none of them have worked.
my windows security center will not work properly.then i followed the following steps. when i am open the service.msc then it shows your current security systems prohibit running active x control in this page or you have blocked a publisher of one of the controls. it causes my windows gadjet does not work properly and i can't restore my system to an earlier point.
I use norton anti virous soft. When I turn on my laptop, I saw an important meassage from windows action center that in my laptop the windows security center is off. Is it a problem? If yes how can i solve it? I use windows 7 OS and corei3 processor.

I recently purchased a lenovo laptop for home purpose around 1.5 months back. The laptop was having already microsoft security essentials (MSE) and mcafee antivirus plus software. Unfortunately, yesterday i was facing blue screen on death type of error (BSOD) error. On one forum, I found that it may be due to the mcafee antivirus software. So, I uninstalled the software as per suggestion. Why MSE was not able to detect this bsod error? Moreover, why mcafee, which itself is a anti-virus software, was causing this issue?
Morever, I want to install good free antivirus software. I am totally confused whether should I install the antivirus software or, the internet security software. Please throw more light on good free internet security software from longer perspective. (I just found that almost all free trials are only for 1 month only)? Moreover, why built-in windows firewall and microsoft security essentials (MSE) are not enough for detecting malacious software. Why extra internet security software or antivirus software is required ?
I recently bought a notebook PC, and was quite annoyed to find that Intel has magically removed the ability to change the Centrino N 130 wireless adapter's MAC address. Before the nutters get in here with accusations of "illegal" activity, I feel obligated to point out that there is nothing "illegal" about changing the MAC address on my own property. Briefly, I want to pose my notebook as a hypothetical attacker, trying to bump one of my other wireless devices off the router by assuming its MAC address. I don't really know what would happen if I did this, because, like I said, Intel artificially crippled the Centrino N 130 through its Windows 7 drivers. Rather paternalistic of them.Another benefit of the proposed experiment: showing the futility of MAC filtering in keeping out the "bad guys." I have been convinced of this for some time, but been simultaneously unable to demonstrate it to my own satisfaction. There is no substitute for actually trying something, rather than just reading about it.
I am also a little annoyed at the Centrino N's (lack of) performance. I have yet to have it connect at greater than 72 Mbit/s, even while sitting less than 10 feet from the router with a clear line of sight.FWIW, my router is a NetGear WNR3500v2. N wireless is enabled. As far as I know, this router is capable of supporting a full 300 Mbit or so 802.11n wireless connection, as long as the wireless NIC on the other end is doing its part (which mine doesn't).With all that in mind, can someone suggest an N-capable wireless NIC that is not purposely crippled by its manufacturer? I would prefer an internal mini-PCIe card, but Intel seem to be the only ones making those. Even a G-capable or USB device would probably serve the purpose, if that's all that's available.
I Windows 7 Home Premium. My windows is getting the updates but when it says configuring windows it doesn't do it and says it failure to config and is reverting back.I also cannot turn on Windows Security Center.I appears something happened 8/15. I tried microsoft's fixes and system restore which hasn't fixed the problems.[CODE]
My printer keeps giving me the error message "A printer error has occurred, turn off the printer, then press on button to turn on. See your documentation" I have unistalled it held down the on button and cancel button at the same time to print a test paper, but still can't get anything to print.
I am new to Windows 7, I have home premium 64bit. I would just like to know if there are any simple tips (or not so simple) that I should use to make the system more secure than it is by default. Currently I just use a limited account and sanboxie, sometimes with firefox and no script. I keep away from obvious danger zones but I still like to keep secure.
Have removed it with add/ repair in Cont Pan and Revo but it will not go anyone got any "final" solutions for this wretched thing before I go completely potty/er?
I'm setting up a new pc and trying to connect to the internet. I already have a wireless modem that I use the internet through on my lap top. To set up the internet from the pc it asks me to select wireless or Broadband (PPPoE)
I just bought a new laptop and need to connect to the internet. It is asking me for a security code which I have forgotten. Is there a way to find this key
i am new to the forum and was wondering if someone could tell the best way to hide my ip for security reasons? if this type of question is not allowed on this site please delete and forgive me ahead of time.
I purchased a Windows 7 laptop that was already running Microsoft Security Essentials. Since I had a Norton 360 Premier subscription, I tried to download and install it.It won't work without uninstalling MSE, which I did. But it still doesn't work. MSE won't reinstall because it can find bits of the Norton install. I've run the Norton utilities for removal, I've spent 4 hours on the phone with Norton, and I've been going back and forth via email with the MS support guys to do a full removal of MSE and after going through registry edits, and turning off all microsoft products and hours of troubleshooting this - I *still* can't get it to work.
I want to remove Microsoft Security Essentials from my notebook. I went to Control Panel > Programs and Features > right clicked on Microsft Security Essentials and poped-up said Uninstall. I clicked on Uninstall and it said, "An error has prevented Microsoft Security Essentials Startup Wizard from completing successfully." What should I do to uninstall MS Security Essentials?
It came with McAfee security trial. I want to update with Security Essentials but the download on Microsoft only offers XP or Vista? Now I'm thinking I should just go with AVAST. I'm also wondering if I should download Firefox......
