HP Laptop Built In Microphone Problem

The built in microphone with Win 7 RC (64 bit) installed works but is  very faint (using Skype).  It does not matter what the volume is set at.  The same HW on Vista works just fine.

Generic Drivers For Built In For Laptop Card Readers
If you have a laptop and have a problem getting the built in SD / MMC card reader to work then I've found the "generic" one from the Twinhead german site does OK. For X-64 use the Vista driver. Expanding the zip file will give you the 32 and 64 bit drivers.

The most "Generic" drivers seem to come from the F11Y laptop series but choose from other models if this doesn't work.

Most of these drivers are pretty "Generic" so should work with a huge amount of hardware irrespective of your actual model.

HP/DELL/COMPAQ owners are usually pretty lucky as the manufacturers sites are pretty OK. It's when you buy essentially an unknown brand of laptop where you can't find the "manufacturers" site as the laptop is badged under a different name. From the link just click on the Notebook model and get the drivers.

No stupid registration or "Let's scan your computer to see what driver you need" -- and then you are re-directed to a PAY service or more adware nonsense -- I HATE those sites --what if I'm using a different computer to get the driver than the one I install it on.

64-bit Drivers For A Built-in Camera On A Sony Laptop
I am looking for a 64-bit driver for the built-in Camera on a VGN-FZ145E Sony Laptop. When windows 7 64-bit Ultimate was done installing on the computer the driver that it installed was a Microsoft driver and the device is called usb camera or something to that effect. I am aware that Sony does not have 64-bit drivers on their site for the laptop for Vista. Does anyone know of a third party driver that might work.

Dell E6400 Laptop USB (Built-In) Webcam Problem
After searching the web and this forum for some answers I realized there are many many problems with USB Webcams from different manufacturers. (please see the link below). My PC is fairly new Dell E6400 Laptop (Duo II with 4GB of RAM and nVidia video card with 256MB) with integrated Creative Webcam and despite all my efforts, installing different drivers in different compatiibility modes including the one released by Dell/Creative only few weeks ago - my webcam does not work.

The driver is installed and the device is being reported by Device Manager as working properly yet none of the applications such as Windows Live Messenger not Skype can utilize the video stream, reporting inability to connect to webcam and that a "different application is utilizing camera".

Since I found threads regarding many different webcam vendors (including MS), PC configurations and drivers involved I suspect that this is an issue with Windows 7 itself and not the webcams nor their drivers.

BTW. My webcam was properly working under Vista 64 i.e. before the upgrade to Win7 RC (7100). I am frsustrated that there is no release regarding this issue anb no available solution / fix to the problem. What is going on?

HP Pavillion Microphone Problem
Suddenly my microphone stopped working for both messenger and skype applications. I have an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC. Lots of other folks have the same complaint but no solutions can be found. Using Vista and Explorer 8 for a long time now and everything worked fine. In addition when using skype and messenger there is no sound so now i cant hear the other person. Otherwise the sound works good for youtube, etc. Don't recall making any changes to my settings that may have caused this.

Microphone / Sound / Driver Issue
Where can I find a reliable Sound Driver for Windows 7? Currently I have a microphone that doesn't work but I do have sound. It shows no recognition that a microphone exists and I suspect this is due to my Sound Driver.

I am not sure how I can correct this or whatever but I would really like some help to get this working at 100% instead of 50% (Just sound)

This is not about Skype or anything the microphone doesn't work what so ever.

HP Pavilion DV9500 Microphone Problem
Well i recently installed Windows 7 RC my microphone doesn't seem to be working.

I use a HP Pavilion DV9500 laptop. (When trying to detect version on the HP's website i get DV9690en)

The Realtek HD Audio seems to work good, but the microphone doesn't seem to work at all.
(I actually tried different versions of Realtek driver already) I tried settings microphone boost or disabling it.

Muting and unmuting different things. Changing the default device to Sound Mixer and backwards. Settings random sound combinations, trying to make it work. But all that didn't give any results.
Im trying to record sound thought Sound recorder.

I hope someone can actually help me, cause it is not really nice using a extern Microphone when you have a build in one. (Or even 2 build in ones, cause there's one on the left and one on the right of the camera).

i just recently switched to Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion tx2510us. I installed some drivers the pen and touchscreen are working fine. Even the built in camera is working, but the microphone isn't. I tried just about anything and i looked on HP's driver database and they have no such thing as a microphone driver. Im talking about the built in one. I tried looking in Sounds but it says that my microphone isn't muted. What can i do? Can anyone link a driver if they know it?

I recently installed my Creative SB Live! Value WDM driver, and the sound works fine, but the microphone doesn't. It doesn't show up in the Volume Mixer, although when I go into the sound settings under recording, it is set as the default device. This is not a problem with the microphone itself, because the same driver worked in build 7000. Please help, I really want my mic to work.

Analog Devices Array Microphone Problem
Running Windows 7, build 7100, on HP Compaq tc4200 notebook/tablet pc.  For the most part it works great.  I also use a docking station/port replicator. When undocked, the built-in array microphone on my notebook does not work. However, when I dock my pc, lid closed and viewing external monitor, the microphone does work.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how to either fix this or what to do?  I would really appreciate any help.

I discovered this quirk trying to use the speech recognition. It looks really nice but I need to have the mic work when I useing my notebook away from the dock.

HP PAVILION Built-in Webcam
Who knows how many people complained for following issue BUILT-IN WEBCAM WON'T WORK UNDER WINDOWS 7RC!

All right, I have the same problem, but I just could't find similar thread on any forum.

So, I installed win7 RC over win 7 beta (clean install not an update).

Everything went smoothly, drivers all found and instaled, device manager showing no yellow exclamation triangles.

Every bit of hardware is in place, everything works perfectly according to system diagnostic.

BUT, webcam shows no picture. Driver is properly installed and has no collisions with other system resources.

Interesting thing was, that camera was working excellent under win 7 beta. I don't know what has changed in win 7RC, but camera just won't start.

If anyone has any solution or similar issue, please don't hesitate to post a reply.

Oh yeah, my configuration:

HP PAVILION dv 6670el Entertainment PC
intel core2duo 2.0 GHz
2GB RAM
160GB HDD
NVIDIA 8400gs video card

HP built-in webcam (at least that's what system information says) 1.3Mpix

Built-in H 264 Codec Glitches
I am having troubles with the Win7 built-in H264 codec. It seems to be buggy and produces some blocky artifacts in a few of my videos (I am trying to play a MP4 container with H264/AAC).

This shouldn't be too much of a problem since 3rd party codecs do render the video just fine. But...

I can use these 3rd party codecs in other DirectShow players, but WMP always seems to fall back to the built-in codec, whatever I try!

What can MS do to fix this situation? I don't really care whether the built-in codec gets fixed, or WMP loads 3rd party plug-in, but as it currently stands, I can't watch my video in WMP.

Why No Built-in RAW Image Support ?
There is a RAW image viewer power toy available for XP which doesn't seem to work with 7. It would be nice to not even have to go through the trouble of installing the power toys and just have them built right in to the OS. Another useful one that comes to mind is the Image Resizer.  I think one of my biggest gripes with all versions of Windows is having to go and install applications that are used for common computing tasks such as viewing / editing images.

Win 7 Built In Backup System
Question about Windows 7 Ultimate's built in backup system.

If I create a full system backup of my "C" drive, then do a restore, will it just install the "C" drive partition only, or will it overwrite the entire HD, thus wipping the rest of the partitions? Not looking to have the other partitions wiped!

I did some looking around, but that question/issue doesn't seem to be addressed.

Built-in Support For Bluray Playback / Burning
Confirmed by Mr. Sinofsky himself, there will be no native BluRay support in Windows 7. However, BluRay Drive makers and OEMs will be able to extend Windows Media Center to support playback. What will be supported in Windows 7 though, is the burning of BRD discs.

Here’s the email that was forwarded to me from our loyal reader Theodore. I did make a WHOIS check to make sure that it was Sinofsky himself. Location was indeed from: United States Redmond Microsoft Corp.
