After selecting add a new printer, then selecting the 2605dn, I didn't see this model in the HP printer list. But if I clicked the Windows update button then it showed up and installed fine. However, to get duplex printing to work I had to right click the printer and select Printer Properties, then Device settings and installable options, then select duplex unit installed.
We have an HP 2605dn printer connected to a Windows XP machine and networked to our office. We recently purchased two new PCs and have Windows 7 x64 on them. In trying to set up connection on the new machines to the networked HP printer, we can see the printer referenced in the 'Add a Printer' dialog box, but it will not connect. It says that it is "looking for .INF on <UNKNOWN>" and requires us to find this file before proceeding.
Is it because the host PC for the printer is on XP?
The software on the CD which came with my HP 2605dn runs fine under WinXP. It includes both the PCL6 driver for the printer as well as a Java-based utility named "HP Toolbox" that allows for communication with the printer when attached via USB.However since the printer itself is supported "native" by Windows 7, the drivers for the printer get installed properly when Windows 7 is installed (printer should be ON at install, rather than OFF as is usually the case when installing drivers for a USB device after-the-fact, e.g. from the software CD under WinXP).But the software CD actually is not usable under Windows 7, which means the HP Toolbox utility that would normally also be installed cannot be installed! This is a problem.
When the printer is attached via network, it can be communicated with directly (e.g. 102.168.1.102) from a browser. This is good enough to get lots of device status information. However the browser interface does not include some functions provided by HP Toolbox, such as "Troubleshooting" which includes running the "cleaning page" function to try and get rid of toner from the paper/ribbon path. The black cartridge has a built-in "toner cleaner" that should normally be used when changing the black cartridge, but there's also a separate process to clean the ribbon... and this comes from HP Toolbox.So... I've tried to find an acceptable place to find a Windows 7-installable version of HP toolbox. Unsuccessful. HP site seems to be a never-ending series of dead-ends, wrong printer, etcWorthless.
I've also tried to reach HP by phone all day today, but I've been in the hold queue forever (perhaps they're closed for MLK Day, so I'll try them tomorrow). But does anybody out there already have a solution to this? Is there some way I can manually install HP Toolbox from my existing software CD... or is that just impossible? If not, is there some web location where HP has made a downloadable version of a Windows 7-compatible installer file?
I have been trying to install Windows 7 Professional x86 several times, and always encounter the same problem.
I downloaded Windows 7 via the MSDN Academic Alliance and then copied all files to a recently reformatted 4Gb USB stick.
Then I changed the BIOS settings on my computer to boot from the USB drive, and it boots and then starts. When i press on the Install button however, it says its starting the install but then quickly and the following message appears;
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." The message also allows me to browse for said missing drivers, but i cant find any drivers anywhere.
I have an AMD athlon 64 x2 dual-core TK-53 processor but i can't find an driver for the coprocessor not even on the offical site. Windows say's in the device manager that it isn't working properly because there are no drivers installed.
I am getting this message... The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
This is resulting in my laptop in crashing regularly and windows tries to recover the display driver.

I have a Windows 7 PRO 32 Bit OS License and DVD media.I am building a completely new PC - AMD Processor;Gigabyte Motherboard; SATA hard drives; a pair of SATA DVD Recorder/Player drives; memory, etc.The configuration is able to boot the Windows 7 Pro installation. The installation apparently progresses until the following message appears."A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver on a floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB Flash Driver, please insert it now." I am unable to locate the CD/DVD device driver I need to allow the installation to proceed.
I have a windows 7 enterprise 64 bit OS. I am trying to install a HP 1022 Laserjet and it will not let me. It says that the printer is not connected with the computer.
i have the same problem with "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."i have a dell mini 10 (1012) & it doesn't have a dvd drive. i have Windows 7 home premium (upgraded from starter). i made a bootable usb stick (downloaded iso file from mintywhite & then made the bootable stick). that process worked fine.when i try to do the re-install, however, get the message noted above. i read on another post to 'disable the raid function in bios'. i also tried downloading ALL my dell drivers & tried the re-install with them on another flash drive stuck in the machine.
When I try to install Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, I get to step number 4, but when I click install I get an error saying that a required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. I know that I have the most current drivers and that my DVD drive/driver is supposed to be supported by Windows 7.Is it possible that my installation DVD is messed up?

I am trying to install Win 7 Home Premium on a different HD, I have the original install disks, I boot from the DVD drive and the files load as usual but after selecting language I get the message: A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. How do I resolve this? And also is there any advantage to installing 64 bit, my processor does support it.
I have just finished building a new desktop, here is the config:
Intel Core i5-2500K ASUS P8P67 Pro, Intel P67 CORSAIR Dominator CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 2x 4GB OCZ Vertex II Series SATA II 2.5" SSD, 60GB SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1.0TB SAPPHIRE HD 6950 2GB Fractal Design Define R3 CORSAIR HX750 SONY OPTIARC AD-7260S SATA, DVD-RW
Using access to MSDN-AA, I got an ISO and key for Windows 7 Pro x64 (DVD - English). I then burnt the ISO to a DVD using my current computer, a WinXP 6 year old ACER laptop. When trying to do the clean install of Win 7 Pro on the new desktop, the installer starts up fine, but after choosing my language and regional settings, I get the famous "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing" error.
Here are the things I have tried, in vain: 1) Installing the various available SATA drivers from the ASUS motherboard DVD. This doesn't work and gives a "No new devices could be found" error. 2) Reburning the ISO with ImgBurn at 2.4x speed with verify on. 3) Redownloading the ISO from MSDN-AA and reburning the new ISO at 2.4x speed.
Note that I would have tried to make a bootable flashdrive of the ISO (using this guide: Install Windows 7 From USB Drive/Pen Drive ) but since I'm on Win XP on my current computer, DiskPart doesn't work in the same way. I therefore cannot do this, at least not in the manner described in that guide. Talking of DiskPart, I called up the command window in the Win 7 installer, and it shows NO drives at all. In the ASUS EFI BIOS, I have chosen boot priority for the DVD drive, and the two hard drives can be seen from there (although the SSD cannot be chosen as a priority for booting, which is weird, and possibly linked to this problem?).
I have a Dell XPS , bought it 2 weeks ago , all good , but when I tried to re-install the nvidia graphics driver the windows crashed, and the boot system was down.Tried to fix it , couldnt , and I didnt make a backup either so I went for the format. At the moment the HDD is clean and when I try to install windows7 i get the following error:"Load Driver:a required dvd drive device is missing". I tried everything that I found on this forum/google related to this problem but with no success.

I tried to install Windows 7 x64 on a machine that I already had Windows 7 32 bit successfully installed. But the 64 bit install failed with message "A required cd/dvd driver is needed...." . Removed everything from the motherboard except one hdd/sata and tried installing from usb image too and the same dreadful cd/dvd driver needed message stops the install.... any clue ?
I just got done with a new build.. brand new SSD harddrive and when my windows 7 is loading the setup I get stuck when i'm choosing the drive to partition. It gives me a few menu pop ups that begins with the "required cd/dvd drive device driver missing".. then it doesn't show any of my drives to format on.
