Guide Program Names With Wrong Language

I have been testing the win7 RC and media center now for two days. I did run into the problem with guide language. I am testing in Finland with language and keyboard set to Finland.

Problem is that some/most of the program names (and descriptions) are in Swedish language that is the second official language here in Finland. Programs are right ones so the ones broadcasted here in Finland :-)

Settings guide about says to me that

Quide End date is 29.5.2008

TV signal: Digital Antenna (DVB-T)/Digital Antenna (DVB-T)
Language: Finnish
End date 29.5.2009 10:30:00

I did down load mywin7 source 11.5.2009

Digitalriver Student Promotion: Wrong Language Upgrade
I recently purchased Win7 x64 upgrade through the Canadian student promotion I got through e-mail.  Download worked fine, everything worked fine until I started installing the upgrade...
I got the promotional e-mail in English, my Vista version is French...  Nothing in the e-mail and the purchasing process mentionned that there were multiple language versions...

So now I can't upgrade since we can't upgrade fr-CA to en-CA...  Anyway to get an fr-CA upgrade download in replacement?  I sent 2 messages to digitalriver with my order number and never got any reply (that was a month ago).And a suggestion: the language issues should be clearly indicated on the website, I didn't even know I had an english-only version before I started installing it.

Program Guide Not Updating
I've searched on various forums and have had mixed results from years of this similar problem arising on XP and Vista as well. My Media Center no longer updates the program guide, making media center essentially useless. I've tried re-setting it like others suggested, but now it gets stuck at "Downloading TV Setup Data".

Everytime I try to access the program guide, it pops up a message saying my list is expired and needs to be updated, but it never actually updates. My internet connection is fine, the system is fine. Nothing has changed to potentially cause this conflict to arise. Is this a problem Microsoft has addressed or? Any help on fixing this would be appreciated, as I rely on MC to act as a DVR.

Guide Program Not Responding
If a certain program is not responding then you normally click on close button without "Waiting for the program to respond"

This will affect your Windows 7 Reliability Score:-

http://i41.tinypic.com/5y5jjr.png

This morning my opera web browser was not responding for some reason instead of closing the non responding opera from the task bar i have opened my task manager and from there i flushed Opera

My Reliability Score is not affected by this so whenever your program is not responding just open the task manger and close it from there and your reliability score will be like this forever :

Can't See TV Program Guide In Media Center
I recently purchased a Leadtek DTV2000 H Plus TV tuner card. The card has many cool features, and is supplied with software from Leadtek.

I have managed to configure Media Center for the new card, however whilst I am using Media Center with my new card I am not able to access any program guides, to see what other channels are showing, determine what I want to watch next, etc.

Program guide information is displayed when I use the Leadtek software, just not when I am using Media Center.

If anybody has any suggestions on how to enable program guide information in Media Center it will be greatly appreciated.

Troubles With The Program Guide In Media Center
I've been BETA-testing Windows 7 from the first version, and I've never had any problems with the program guide in the media center. I have been able to mark the programs to be recorded, and it was done OK.

After having installed Windows 7 RC, the there is a difference between the time in the guide and the time of the broadcast of the programs, so it's impossible for me to schedule recording from my TV-card.

Has anybody had a similar problem?

Incorrect Program Guide Schedule Data
I have noticed that when programming changes are made by the broadcast networks, that the EPG does not get corrected listing for some time. Cable networks do sometimes change their schedules on short notice. For example Adult Swim tonight. Their schedule changed on Monday (it's now Thurday), but the EPG is not getting the schedule changes from Zap2it even after manually initiating the guide listing download.

This makes no sense seeing how Zap2it has the correct schedule on their website. It sounds like Media Center is not updating the entire file, just downloading future listings that haven't been previously downloaded. So it begs the question: How do I force the Program Guide to download the ENTIRE guide from Zap2it?

My two cents? The EPG should download the entire guide if one manually initiates it from the Settings module of Media Center. That would allow the user to decide if there has been a major programming change by one of the networks that affects their own individual recording schedule and immediately obtain the correct schedule.

My TIVO does not have this problem, and would like to drop that box, but cannot unless this Media Center flaw is addressed.

Media Center Guide Program Information Is Incorrect
I'm having a problem obtaining the correct program information from the Windows 7 Media Center guide.  Setup properly identifies my tuner (Hauppauge 2250) and my cable provider (Comcast).  After it downloads the latest guide listings, the channels are all there and labeled correctly.  However, the particular program information is almost entirely incorrect.

For example, a particular program may be identified in the guide as Man vs Wild in Siberia, but the actual show playing is Man vs Wild in Mexico.  Or if I set a program to record, the show I end up recording is something different than what was listed.  I've tried re-installing the guide several times, using both Comcast Digital and Comcast analog, but no luck.

Media Center Won't Download The Program Guide
The ehome tray icon appears and when I right click it says " get latest guide listings". The "Enable Guide listing downloads" is checked: however, it stays in a "downloading state and never downloads. When i go to the guide it says "program info will expire in 3 days'. I have tried clicking download and nothing happens. When I open the guide download log it only says started.

I have also tired to go into settings but it says that the download has already started. I have even tried to setup the tuner again and it still fails to update. Any solutions?

I thought it might be my router so I restored the factory defaults on it to. And still no luck.

Did I Install The Wrong Virtualization Program
I'm running the RC of Win7, and I thought that it was supposed to integrate seemlessly with Microsoft Virtual PC, ie, once I install XP on the Virtual Machine, the folders on my Win7 PC should be visible through my XP machine.  The Win 7 page says "To install applications in Windows XP Mode, you start by selecting Virtual Windows XP from the Windows 7 Start menu", but I don't have 'Virtual Windows XP' on my Win 7 Start Menu--just Microsoft Virtual PC?What did I do wrong?

Will I be able to print to my Canon Color Laser Printer that only has a 32-bit driver if I've got the 64-bit version of Windows 7 installed?  I'm trying to understand how the Virtualization works, ie, does it go through 2 layers when communicating with a device (eg, 32-bit driver then 64-bit driver when communicating with a Printer).

Program Files In Local Language Versions
Switching over from a Swedish language XP system I'm utterly frustrated with Windows 7 (Ultimate + Sedish language pack).

The localized version of both sytems replaces the "Program Files" folder with a "Program" folder.

In XP that causes no trouble, 95% of all applications happily install themselves into "Program" and run ok there, the few exeptions insist on creating a "Program files" folder but then run happily there.

Not so in Win 7. On the system disk there is a "Program" folder and at least some programs install themselves there, and run ok there. But, if you create a shortcut to a program the shortcut is pointing at C:Program files and changing it to C:Program.. causes an error message when trying to activate the program. This becomes rather confusing when you yourself have to create shortcut addresses.

Some programs have exactly the opposite problem, for example WinZip is on one hand unable to extract a zip file to C:Program files as it cannot find the folder (altough explorer clearly sees such a folder) and on the other hand creates a new, extra, C:Program folder if told to extract to that folder. So then there are two "Program" folders, one pointed at by %ProgramFiles% and another one not pointed at!

Some other programs have the same kind of problems.

What is going on here? Have I missed some step in the language pack installation or has MS managed to break a system that worked perfectly well in XP for years?

Has anyone had similiar problems with other language packs?

WMC: Guide Download Error, The Guide Could Not Be Downloaded
Windows Media Center hasn't updated the guide nearly two weeks.  It just ran out of listings today.  I try to update manually, but I get an error message saying that the Guide could not be downloaded.

If I mouse over the Windows Media Center Update icon in the system tray, I see a bunch of errors flash past, all having to do with "could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel".  The last successful update appears to be October 26th.  I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit retail.

Lineups And Channel Names
I currently try to sort my lineups (Edit Favorite Lineups). The channel names are displayed but run out to the right (gradient). But if i sort them by name, I am not able to read the names anymore. The gradient will move to the first letter, so that even the first letter is only half displayed.

Does anyone can confirm this or may have a solution?

Font Names And Chinese Programs
In Windows 7 Ultimate, Font names in MS Word display in English with "DF" in front of them. Is there any way to make them display Chinese? The system is English with Chinese (Trad.) MUI, and Office 2003 Cht.

Also, a lot of Chinese programs display gibberish (*&!@^%#$) when launched, such as the install for Office and Xunlei. Is there a way to fix this?

Hard To Read User Names In Welcome Screen
In the Windows 7 WELCOME SCREEN where you would choose which USER ID to log in with - Windows 7 uses a blue color screen with white text. However, the area where the user names area listed (under the picture for it's user) the coloring of the screen is so white that it is extremely difficult to read the USER NAME. Is there any way to change the color or design for this screen so the USER ID under each User Picture would be a lot easier to read?

Missing Partition /drive Names In Explorer
I dont' know if it's a bug or I messed something up but the fixed drive names do not show up in Explorer - anywhere. Edit properties it still says C: D: etc. Open Disk Manager and all partitions appear to have proper names I have given them. I do remember names being shown when I first installed 7, now they're gone. If it's a bug well it's a bug but if someone knows something, I'd appreciate an tip.

How does one change the names of external drives in windows 7?

I renamed the drives in computer management, and they appear with the new names whenever I bring up computer management. But elsewhere, such as Computer in the start menu they appear with the default "pendrive".

I made the changes (in computer management) logged in with administrator privileges.

Show File Names On Wallpaper And Screensaver
Can anyone tell me how to display the filenames along with the photos I've included in my customized wallpaper and screensaver?

It would come in useful if I particularly liked a photo currently being displayed and wanted to locate it so that I could maybe print it out. I was able to do this with my screensaver in XP.

Broken Network Paths (UNC Names - Server)
Love 7 so far! But today I needed to access a share (\servernameshare) but when I went to type it, it came up cannot connect. We're on a domain with AD, and noticed in eventvwr that GP not processing:

The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \internal.domainSysVolinternal.domainPolicies{5682A7A2-6BAE-4655-8DB6-7CAF8ECC6042}gpt.ini

from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.

b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).

c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.

Also would not map network drives. Anyways, ended up doing a system restore to a known working point in time, and that seemed to work, until I rejoined the computer to domain (since it had lost the trust relationship because of the system restore), but after a few group policies processed, and a couple critical updates were installed, it broke again. So now I unplug from the network at bootup, login, then plug network back in, and it seems to be a workaround for now, but hopefully it's only a temporary one. Any Ideas?

Guide DirectX 10
Here's how to do that:

1. Go to the directory --> C:\Users\[Your user Name]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config a. Find the file WillowEngine.ini (make a copy and rename it as a backup)
2. Find the section [SystemSettings]

Change the following settings to True, you will see if you are currently in DX9 as well.

AllowD3D10=True (this is the key one to enable the DX10 render engine)
Also change the following

MotionBlur=True
DepthOfField=True
Bloom=True
UseHighQualityBloom=True
FogVolumes=True

For other Games the procedure is similar.
