I'm trying to set up an external monitor to mirror my laptop monitor, but all i can get it to do is set up the external monitor as a dual monitor. I want to connect the flat screen monitor to my laptop and have it display the same screen that I'm seeing on the laptop. Anyone know how to set this up in Windows 7?

I haven't installed any new drivers/apps. I literally just clean installed the RC (build 7100) over a copy of XP Pro (the usual windows dual boot menu at start) and XP is still fine but when I log into win 7 it's slow as can be. incredibly slow is how I would describe it. Anyway the weird thing is the CPU usage and memory usage are low so I can't figure it out.
maybe it's disk usage but I can't even run any portable diagnostic software because it's so damn slow. Is there anything I can check. it must be something simple. And I'm sure somebody else has tried it on a GX520 business machine.
My background is that I have a Dell Optiplex E8400, 4GB Crucial Ram, 2- SATA CDRW/DVD's, 1.5GB SATA Seagate HD, ATI HD 3650 video card that runs dual 19" monitors.
I primary use my computer for Adobe Photoshop and photography items with the occassional MCE movie.
My question is that on Dells support site they have the 64 bit Vista drivers but no support for Windows 7. I would like to run more RAM to speed up my Photoshop usage and wondering if there would be a dramatic difference between 32bit and 64bit for my usage.
Can anyone assist me on this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Optiplex 745 (160 GB HD and 8 GB RAM) which originally came with Vista 32 bit preinstalled. I received Windows 7 Professional as a gift. i performed a full install on the machine. 7 runs fine on the machine except that the system freezes up after a few hours of operation. I updated all the drivers via reviversoft.com but the issues is still recurring.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWill I gain much in performance by upgrading RAM in my Dell Optiplex GX280 small desktop from 2 GB (2x 1GB DIMMs) to 3 GB (3x 1GB DIMMs)? I understand the 32-bit OS will not recognize >3GB so that's why I'm not shooting for 4GB (the physical maximum of this machine). The machne runs Win7 32-bit Home Premium OS and is rather slow. The alternative is to jump to a new machine, probably a i5 processor laptop (trying to delay that expense, if practical).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI picked up a couple Dell Optiplex 745's that are almost identical. A friend of mine has the same machine that runs Windows 7 flawlessly. I, however, can only install it and run the OS when disabling one core of my Pentium D 2.8GHz (Presler) CPU. When I go into the BIOS and re-enable the 2nd core the system becomes completely unstable.
Some basics:
x86 (32-bit)- Windows Home Premium retail (Came from Dell with XP)
System close to four years old, with format and clean install of Windows 7. Machine does run OK on Windows XP with both cores enabled. Both machines seem to perform exactly the same so bad CPU or memory seems to be a longshot.
My Dad has a vintage Dell Optiplex, just reinstalled Win XP and now the *^%^$ NIC cannot see the webI rechecked and verified that the connecting cable is OKI tried downloading a NIC driver from MS, but the installer cannot see it. The hardware manager (control panel) does not show NIC mfg. details so I have to guess. The NIC is built into the board so I can't disconnect it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 RC Build 7100 32-bit version on 2 brand new right out of the box Dell Optiplex 960. This was a fresh install not an upgrade. The setup ran just fine. Windows boots up and runs but is sluggish and sometimes I have to wait for things to open. Such as running solitaire it is slow to deal the cards and even stops briefly.I also tried the 64-bit version but receive an error during the boot from DVD. Status 0xC00000e9. Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred. The cpu and memory usage are not high at all. I have also noticed that the time on the taskbar is running very slow. It takes about 45-50 seconds for one second of time to pass.I am wondering if maybe there is a driver issue with the machines. I have installed the Windows 7 video driver from the ATI site. I am not sure where to find a chipset driver for this computer. There are no red X's or other problems in the device manager.
Computer specs.

I have a Dell Optiplex 740 that I'm using to test Windows 7 on. I have 3 video cards total. 2 are PCI cards and 1 is integrated. Windows sees the Integrated in the device manager but when I go in to the display control to change resolution I cant choose it to extended my screen to. It doesnt even show up in the selection. Only the 2 other cards. I went into the bios and made sure it wasnt disabled, I made sure the right drivers are installed, the cable is plugged in, and the monitor is on and has power. What else could be wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Dell Optiplex GX260 system. I intalled Windows 7 Ultimate on that. The resolution of screen is fine but it is not supporting 1280 x 1024 resolution and videos are not playing properly. It was not taking audio drivers as well but when I ran the SoundMax drivers for XP in compatibility mode they were installed. But display drivers are not getting installed. I even tried the various driver from Nvidia for XP/Vista/Win 7, but none of them works. Even tried the latets 191 release but no use.
