Dvd Player Not Working Properly

I installed Windows 7 yesterday, and for some reason, my dvd player isn't working correctly.

I checked the drivers, and it says they are up to date. Not that I can find any for download anywhere though. I have a Sony Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7203S, if that helps.

This is what it says on the device manager, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". I don't think this is the doing of a virus, since I've scanned my computer twice and not found anything.

Is this something I can fix or do I need to install Vista again?

But it doesn't seem to stop the issue.

CD/DVD Drive Not Working Properly
Windows 7 seems to freeze and crash when I input a CD or a DVD in my Dual-Layer CD/DVD RW-drive. I've checked the drivers, which windows update says is up to date, and tried with lots of different CDs and DVDs, just to check if the disc in question was broken.

This is really problematic as I dont have a spare DVD drive anywhere. Anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it/did you fix it?

I have upgraded my sytem from Vista to Windows 7. My DVD player / burner will not install. The device manager recognizes the installation but shows it in yellow and not working. I have tried the troubleshooting fix in the Control Panel under Hardware & Sound, it sees the problem but cannot fix it. I have also tried to plug in a USB external DVD unit and I have the exact same problem. The system says it is a driver problem. Help!! Any Ideas?

AMD X2 Not Reporting Or Working Properly
Ok, this is going to seem odd. Installed 7.7000 32 and have had no problems, until last night when I realized something was amiss. In the task manager, (and performance monitor) the system is only reporting one core. I installed amd's cpuinfo and it too says that there is only one processor (0) on the system.

To make matters more confusing, the Device Manager says there are indeed two instances of the AMD X2 5000+ Processors installed and working properly. I tried to do a quick "upgrade drivers online" but it just reported that everything was fine. AMD's website doesnt seem to have any drivers (other than for XP/2003 x64).

I thought 7 was supposed to handle mutlicore better, but am i missing something?

Brightness Tuning Not Working Properly On HP 6735s
Fresh install of Windows 7 64 bits on a HP 6735s computer with AMD X2 and ATI  Radeon HD 3200.

No problem for installation.

Tuning of the screen brightness is hazardous. It does not work much of time, every time I try to put the brightness to the maximum it returns to the low value.

But after a while ( a few minutes, about 15 ...) it seems to work: brightness comes up to maximum !

Any idea ?

Start Search Programs And Files Not Working Properly
Its been happening ever since I installed Windows 7.

For example, When I click Start, type "CC" in the search box, the Start menu displays what I intend to start (CCleaner) but when I press enter I get this:

Its acting completely wierd!

On top of that, when I right click the entry, I get a menu which is expanded towards the left awkwardly.

I also recall that I have unchecked "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties." in the properties of my Windows 7 boot drive.

And since the programs are installed there, I think the problem might be related.

I have checked it again but it dosen't have any effect!

Dell USB Card Reader Not Working Properly
I have a Dell XPS Studio 435T that was running Vista Home Prem. 64 bit.

My card readers were labeled G:, H:, I:, and J: and were there when I got the machine. C: and D: are the Dell Vista Home Prem. 64 bit OS and the Dell Restore partition, E: and F: are my DVD drives. These drives always appear.

The system was built early May and was the A07 BIOS.

When I needed to read an SD card, I plugged the card into the proper slot, nothing happened? Discovered the drive was NOT on Explorer nor COMPUTER desktop icon when double clicked. I have a Canon printer with card slots, put the card in the printer after I turned it on and I can read the card, so it isn't the card (unless the 435T's slot can't read 8GB SD cards).

I don't get any errors when starting the system and nothing apparent in the Event Viewer.

I called Dell figuring they'd be aware of this problem and have a suggestion. Wrong, they claim it isn't a common problem and is either a h/w problem or I 'did something' to the system that caused this. Suggested fix was to restore the system to the shipped state and I was not too happy about that.

The Rep. then agreed to get on my system and look at it. I showed him the drives and the Device Manager that had an 'Unknown Device' and that it had no driver. I showed him that when I tried to update the drive it said I had the correct driver. I deleted that device and then had Device Manager search for changes and it found the same 'Unknown Device'.

Now the Rep. thought I had a driver problem and proceeded to re-load the Intel Chipset drivers. I think I did replace those with more recent ones, but I let him. It installed INSTANTLY and the rep. said it meant I had the drivers installed... Checked the drives again, not there.

Next step as for me to shut-off the system and restart into the BIOS screen and RESET the BIOS to the factory default. OK, but when the system booted, didn't do anything for the problem.

Now the Rep. asked if I could open the case and check the cables to the reader bar. This was after he came back on-line after checking what to do next. By this time I decided I wanted to try something, I have a USB single card reader. I put the SD card into it and inserted it into the card readers USB connector. It found the device, although it didn't assign a drive? Put that same device into the USB connectors behind it and it had the same results but the Rep. was now convinced I had power to the card reader and wouldn't need to open the case.

I then used a real USB Flash drive, put that in the card bar and it worked and could be read (and the Rep. wanted to connect and open the flash drive to be sure, which I allowed).

So, the Rep. wants to REPLACE the h/w. From the reports I've seen, this is a waste of time. His response was he's never seen other reports of this failure and my only other choice is to restore Vista to the shipped state. So I OK'ed the h/w replacement.

I know I've seen the drives as recently as 2 weeks ago. I was surprised one day when I opened Explorer and saw additional drives and then determined they were the card slots. As suddenly as they appeared, a few days later they were gone.

Dell eventually replaced the device, cable from motherboard to it, and even the motherboard. In all cases, replacing that component had the card slots reappear on boot, only to disappear sometime later.

This had been ongoing since July when I first discovered the problem.

Only after I installed Win7 was the true problem discovered.

I had a random BSOD under Vista with DVD Flick. Not often, but it happened. All I had to do was re-boot and it worked fine. Assumed it was a memory problem.

After installing Win7 and booting after a BSOD from DVD Flick Win7 reported a USB device was not working properly and showed a list of USB devices. The suggestion, unplug and re-plug the device and if it didn't fix it, replace the device. Well, looking in Explorer, the card slots were gone. Unplugged the cable and put them back in (case had to be opened to do this) and booted, problem was gone.

I've since removed DVD Flick and the problem has not come back.

So, the question is why wasn't the USB port working properly? I assume an initialization problem, and I see a HOTFIX was just released for Nvidia systems with 4GB's of memory and USB devices stop working so I wonder if the USB drivers could be at fault here?

ATI Mobility Xpress 200M Drivers Not Working Properly
I have an Acer Aspire 3650 laptop with an ATI Mobility Xpress 200M integrated video card. When Windows 7 automatically update the video drivers and reboot the system, I don't get video signal. I can connect my laptop to a LCD screen and get video, but at a very high resolution (something about 1440x???)

so I guess the drivers set my screen resolution too high to get any image on my screen. I tried changing the resoltion using that LCD screen but even setting it to 800x600 doesn't make my laptop screen to work. BTW, ATI beta drivers package doesn't seem to work...
Any ideas?

DVD Drive Not Properly Recognized In Explorer
I installed Windows 7, 64 bit last week as a dual boot on a system with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ @ 2800 MHz processor, 2048 MB of RAM, and an nVidia nForce 560 chipset. I have two internal hard drives and two USB ones attached. XP Pro is on the other partition. The DVD drive type is ATAPI, model HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H62N

After installing I thought the DVD drive flamed out. It spins when I put a disk in, and the title shows in Explorer, but clicking on the drive link in the left column leads to disaster. A green bar moves like a snail across  the address field. It never completes.

Contents of the drive never appear. When I try to close the window, it hangs. Task Manager is never able to end that task. Sometimes the option to log off on the preliminary screen for Task Manager works, but more often I end up forcing the system off and doing a hard reboot. Explore seems to remain stuck on whatever drive it was in when I activated the G: link.

I thought the drive had died and was on the verge of ordering  a new one when my friendly repairman suggested that I purchase a laser lens cleaner and run that before ordering. When I got the cleaner, it did not run as I'd been led to believe. Using the G:Winclean in Run hung the computer. While I was rebooting, I popped into XP. To my astonishment, the utility autobooted and ran. Then I stuck a program disk in and the drive ran flawlessly.

When I booted back to 7, nothing had changed. The drive did not work. I went to Device Manager and uninstalled the drive, then rebooted and let it reinstall. No change. I clicked on the Update Driver button, and learned that it has the latest drivers.

I just put in a data disk that works in XP. After I let it spin a couple of minutes, I clicked to open the drive G. On the first try, Drive H opened. When I clicked on G again, the contents panel shows desktop.ini (found in C:Users|MeAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsBurnBurn)   as being ready to burn. How that file got there baffles me. I sure didn't put it there! Ejecting the disk avoided the need to do a hard reboot.

Inserting another data disk has the same results. A commercial music disk is not recognized at all, and is ejected.

Now what?

DVD Player No Longer Listed Anywhere In Pc
Sometime between Saturday night and Sunday my DVD player disappeared from anywhere on my pc-device manager, my computer, etc. It is listed as "unplugged" by my driver detector. I have searched for solutions and tried tweaking the registry. It seems the most common error for others is no digital signature, but as my device is not detected, I never get that error.

I tried rolling back my pc to no avail, and no updates were installed since this quit.

Media Player 12 - DVD Playback Problem
When I play a dvd in WMP 12 it keeps momentarily 'reversing' visually (by that I mean that for a split second the film seems to be playing backwards or as if I am hitting a rewind button).  The audio keeps going normally.  I can overcome this by playing the film in full screen mode but usually I want to keep a film playing in 'window' mode.

Is this a known glitch with media player in RC1?

Poor DVD Playback With Media Player 12
I have just completed a clean install of Win7 on an SSD and tried to watch a DVD in Media Player 12; the picture quality was very poor, "jagged" and pixelated, not just on my DVD, but also in the example video file included with the player.

I loaded the CCCP codecs and there was no difference.

I installed Media Player Classic and the DVD plays perfectly.

When I go back to my Win XP HD and play the DVD in Media Player 11, it plays perfectly.

I like Media Player 12 and would like to continue using it... does anyone have any ideas what's going on?

System Details...

Mobo: MSI P43-Neo3-F, Video: Asus 512MB with NVIDEA GeForce 8400 GS chipset, RAM: 4GB Kingston DDR2 800 HyperX, OS: Win7 Ultimate 32 bit, CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz

As I said, this is a clean install, all drivers etc are up-to-date.
