Difference Between Map Network Drive And Add A Network Location
In "Computer" what is the difference between "Map Network Drive" and "Add a Network Location"? In Windows XP you just mapped a drive and entered your credentials, what is this new feature?

Mapping Network Drive
I have windows 7 and was able to map my network drive originally. Now it says my password isn't correct. I checked with our tech and he said it's correct and it's my computer messing with me. What could have changed in my settings for it not to be accepted anymore?

Network Drive Mapping Before Logon
I have a mapped Network drive on my win 7 system. I purposely choosed not to tick "reconnect at logon" cause I don't want the drive to be automatically reconnected.

Problem : at startup, Win 7 logins and all programs relying on the mapped folders are lost.

What I'd want : at startup, have win7 display a credentials input windows and wait until I input them or cancel before proceeding.

Mapping A Network Drive Problem / Issue
This makes no sense. I have always had 2 cpu's on a network. My main rig, and a "server". (Basically a storage and backup cpu). Well I just built a new rig, and installed Win 7 RC. Re formatted my old "main" rig to become my new "server". I still had the old "server" (Win XP) connected to the network, and had no problems mapping the drive to my Win 7 machine, and the new server with Win XP.

Now, I took the 320GB Storage drive out of the thrid CPU and installed it in the new "server" and tried to map the drive to my Win 7 Machine. I can not for the life of me get it to work. Both machines have the same user and p/w for login. WHAT GIVES?

Mapping A Network Drive Error 0x80070035
I'm currently trying to map a drive on my laptop as a network drive on my desktop.Â For some reason though whenever i try select my laptop on the network it give me error 0x80070035 The network path was not found. My firewalls are not up, i have file sharing turned on, and there is no other firewall.Â

I'm using Symantec Endpoint Protection but the network protection part is turned off, and I've even tried disabling Endpoint all together. I can ping my desktop from my laptop and my laptop from my desktop.Â I've looked through all my programs, there seems to be nothing that could be blocking file sharing.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Mapping A Drive To A Network Share - Password Problem
related errorÂ : logon failed when starting remote desktop

I have 2 PC's with W7. Both share a drive. Both have the same username. The useraccounts have an empty password,
and I changed a policy to allow local logon with blank passwords.

Remote desktop works fromÂ desktop to the laptop. The desktop can access the share on the laptop, but the laptop cannot make any connection the desktop.

I also tried making a connection as administrator, but to no avail.

Problem Mapping Network Drive For Printer Memory Card
I've had this issue already when I installed XP SP2 way back and this is a link to a hotfix that resolved this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930618), but I was wondering has any one worked around this problem in W7b2.

Basically I connect to my HP C6180 printer through an ad-hoc connection, but I also have an external drive connected to the printer that I was able to map. However any card I enter does not seem to work. I have network discovery, etc. turned on, but to no avail. I know it's not a very pressing issue, but any help would be appreciated.

Drive Mapping
I want to map drives on a Win 2k server box from the Win 7 box.

1) I cant see a way to match the workgroup name with the other machines on the network.

2) It sees the Win XP laptop but not the 2K server.

3) Suggest the help files be updated

Mapping Home Drive
Has anyone else had problems mapping the home drive through active directory in Windows7 ? we are running windows server 2003 for our domain controllers. This works flawlessly in windows xp stations, but i can't get it to work on windows 7 stations. I'm hoping i don't have to map the home drive through the login scripts.

I just installed windows 7 on my laptop and attached it to the domain. I then rebooted and logged in to the domain but unable to see all my drive mappings that I see on my XP or Vista systems. I am able to hard map my drives. Can anyone help?

Mapping From Xp To Win 7 Drive Problems
Trying to map a windows 7 drive to xp via network switch and Ethernet. I've given the 7 machine a static IP of 10.10.10.10 and the xp machine 10.10.10.11.

From the xp machine: type 10.10.10.10 and get credentials box. Insert user name and password and it connects immediately and shows "users" folder...no problem. However, if I try 10.10.10.10C$ or any other drive and enter the same user name and password it changes the user name to "computer name""user name" and nothing happens. I CAN'T GET THIS TO WORK AFTER 6 DAYS!

from the 7 machine: type 10.10.10.11 and connects without credentials needed. type 10.10.10.11c$ and get credentials box. put user name and password and immediately have access to that drive with no problems.

No matter what I try I cannot get to any drives on the windows 7 machine from the xp machine and its driving me crazy. It also will not work if I'm logged in with the same user name and password on each machine at the same time.

Easy Transfer Drive Mapping
I am having issuse with an XP-win 7 upgrade.

When I use WET utility it tries to install all my files onto my small C:drive. The original .mig file comes from a computer with C: J: K: drives... the new comp just has C: and D:.

Why isn't it giving me an option to map the drives when I upgrade?

It tries to install on C drive then gives up when it runs out of space.

When I look at the map drive tab in WET it says 'no drives are available for mapping.'

Drive Mapping To Non Windows Systems
Unable to map network drives from Windows 7 to systems that are not Windows based. Windows is sending 'computernameusername' and shared resource does not understand that. XP systems I have, work to the shared drives, but not the Windows 7.

Have tried changing Security Policy for Lan Manager auth level to "Send LM & NTLM - use...", but still cannot authenticate to my older systems. Keeps asking me for new computernameusername with password. Not on domain, using the same workgroup.

W7 sees all computers in workgroup, but cannot connect to shares on non-windows computers. W7 to XP, W7 to Server 2003, XP to W7 ALL work, but not to my non-windows computers. XP to these computers works.

Mapping A Drive Via DFS Does Not Work
I am experiencing a problem mapping drives via DFS in Windows 7.Â I can UNC to the DFS root (domain.local) and access the share I need ("shared") with no issues.Â I can also UNC the full path (domain.localshared) with no issues. DFS config is fine, as both UNC and mapped drive work in WinXP and Vista.

However if I try to map the link to a drive letter in Windows 7, I get prompted for a username and password.Â Once I enter the credentials, I am prompted again with an "Access Denied" error at the bottom (see screenshot below; domain and ID blanked out for security purposes).

Short description = I can UNC a DFS link but cannot map the link to a drive letter.Â Any ideas or input?

Mapping Network Drives And Novell
I'veÂ looked through the posts here and searched the net and Novell's siteÂ but haven't found anything to lead me to the answer yet.Â

I work in a school and we use Novell on our servers.Â The Novell client (for Vista) appears to work fine under Windows 7 but perhaps 7 looks at mapped drives differently than XP.Â The mappings were done in Windows and not by script as we normally do in XP.

Every time I start the computer I have to double click a mapped drive and then type my password into the Novell client to get in.Â Once done I can get into any of my mapped drives for that windows session.Â However, it appears that the applicationsÂ I have that look at the server for files aren't seeing those drives.Â

The drives areÂ mapped to the correct letters the programs are looking for but I'm getting errors indicating it's not finding the files.Â

I've tried the UNC path for the drive and the applications shortcut. I'veÂ tried setting up the mappings to connect using different credentials.Â I've also tried setting the the LMCompatibilityLevel key to 1 and 0, nothing working yet.Â

Of course I can get at the programs by re-booting my computer and booting into my XP drive, but that takes time and with kids standing at your desk, faster is better.Â If I could get just a couple of those programs to run then I wouldn't have to bounce in and out, giving me the time to get a better feel for this version of windows.Â

I have two computers connected by a router. I have attempted to map my new computer with windows 7 as N: as i had with a previous computer. Now, when I try to get the other computer on windows 2000 Pro to see the new computer in any way, the old computer gives me the error "Login failure: user account restriction". How do I lift that restriction?

Mapping Libraries To Network Drives Possible ?
I'm using XBMC on an HTPC, that connects to a server hosting all the media files.

Both machines run 7 and I'd love to use Libraries to aggregate movies, TV shows, music, pictures, etc. coming from different folders. Unfortunately, from within XBMC libraries are unreachable.

I thought about mapping them to a network drive, but the actual libraries seem to be a *file* and not a *place* (you can check them by creating a shortcut to a library and looking at its properties).

Anything I've missed?

Mapping A FTP Server As A Local Drive
I have a big problem, I was using NetDrive to map my FTP Server to my computer for some time now. I was using Windows Vista 32-Bit, I just installed Windows 7 64-Bit. Now to a surprise I found out that NetDrive doesn't support 64-Bit Operating Systems as of this time. I have been searching no-stop for about 2 hours and haven't found much.

I found some posts that recommended another FREE program to use that is like NetDrive but they still doesn't support 64-Bit. I don't want to buy a $50.00 program like WebDrive for example. I have also tried to use windows explorer to connect to the FTP Server and doesn't seem to work well (mostly not at all). I don't know why?

So at this point I am asking everyone if someone knows of a FREE program or method that I can use to connect my FTP Server to a local drive on my computer?

Mapping Volumes To A Local Hard Drive
I am interested in continuing my experience with Windows Azure Cloud Services particularly utilizing "Blobs" and Storing SQL data in the Cloud, however, it has been my experience that working with such technologies is better served when access to the resource is mappable locally. Is there any way to map the cloud drive resource to a local computer, so that storage of "blobs" and databases is made easier?

Are there Advanced Firewall issues that would have to be addressed with this matter as well?

BORLAND DATABASE ENGINE XP MODE / Drive Mapping
Our company uses an accounting program called Wisetracks which is built using the Borldand Database Engine.

We have installed this program under 32bit Windows XP as well as Windows 32bit Vista.

It will not install under Windows 7 64bit which we want to move to.

I have installed the program under Windows 7 XP Mode.

The problem is the following:

The Borland Database Engine administrator requires the database files which reside on our server as Drive F: to be mapped .

Under Windows 7 the mapped drive is shown as:

F on Win7PC and the Borland program does not recognize this.

How can I do drive mappings so that this works.

Drive Mapping Manually Via Command Prompt Batch File Issue
Running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and trying to map drives via a simple batch file that can be executed when needed.

Connecting via PPTP VPN to a SBS2003 (SP1) - the Win7 machine is not joined to the domain
I can successfully map drives using NET USE manually typed via a non-elevated command prompt, but when I run the SAME syntax via a batch file it fails.

I had to disable UAC in order to get any drive mapping to work.

Syntax:Â net use w: server IPsharename /USER:DOMAIN.localusername password

I am using a fairly long password with upper/lowercase, numbers and characters such as ! = %
Could these characters be causing the problem?Â The fact I can manually type the command in via a command prompt and it works beautifully suggests there is something else going on.Â I have also tried enclosing the password with "" but that didn't work either.

I have also experimented with the NTLM auth level settings via gpedit.msc. It is currently set to 'send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated'

Also, HKLMSystemCCSControlLsa has 'LmCompatibilityLevel' DWORD set to 1

I'm experimenting with the "HomeGroup" feature; well actually with the "Currently connected network". Is there some location that the currently connected network name/guid is stored? Eg. in the registry, or is this something that all application will get on demand from the "Network List Service"?

I already found the network profiles in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionNetworkListProfiles registry key, but can't find the currently connected network.

Cannot See Other Homegroup On Network
There are three computers. One is a desktop connected through a LAN. The 2 laptops is connected through wireless from the modem from the desktop. Anyways, one of the laptops has the printer. My laptop can only see the desktop. The laptop connected to the printer can see both the my laptop and the desktop. Lastly the desktop cannot see anything. Sorry if this is confusing. Anyone know why it's not detected. I need to print something out.

HomeGroup HP Network Printer
I have a wired desktop and a wireless netbook. Both have 7 Ultimate. I set up HomeGroup on my desktop and my netbook can see & access my shared folders.

I also have a couple of printers. The one I want to be able to access is a wired HP Laserjet 4000. It's old, but built like a tank and has 64MB of RAM and a Jet Direct card. I have it plugged into a Cisco router. When I added the printer I chose "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer". It locates the printer and assigns an IP address. As long as my desktop is on I can print to it from my netbook.

The problem is that I want to be able to print to the printer without having my desktop on like any small network. I should be able to since it has it's own IP address. It is on the correct port and everything in HomeGroup is working except printing while the desktop is off. I hesitate to install the massive Jet Direct software but I will if this will solve the problem.

I am very tired after staying up way too late doing a clean install of Ultimate on my desktop and reinstalling apps & arranging everything. I am thinking it has to be something simple I am overlooking ATM as I am not clear headed on 3 hours of sleep.

Homegroup Very Slow While Network Is OK
When I use home-group to connect and transfer files between my desktop and laptop the transfer is extremely slow (50kb/sec). If I connect by sharing a folder through the network setting the transfer speed is much faster. I have updated all my drivers, and tried the clean boot suggestion I found in another post. Why is home-group so much slower?

I did a cleanÂ reinstall of Win7RC1 and named computer bill. Previously homegroups worked but not now. Everytime I try to connect to homegroup it it shows and asks for password for Will PC.Â How can I remove all traces of Will-PC from this computerÂ ?

Cannot Detect HomeGroup On The Network
I have 2 PC in my home.

- PC1 is wired
- PC2 is wireless
- network switch/Access point/router is a D-Link DSL-G804VÂ
- Both PC1 and PC2 have IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
- Peer Networking Grouping, Peer Networking Identity Manager and PNRP services are all up and running on both PC1 and PC2
- They see each other (shared folders and printers)
- Both PC1 and PC2 can connect normally to internet: apparently there are no connection problems.

I defined a HomeGroup on PC1. WhenÂ I try toÂ join PC2 to the HomeGroup, PC2 tells me that "There is currently no homegroup on the network."

I tried several times to delete and re-create the HomeGroup, with no result. Troubleshooting does not detect any problem.

What am I missing?

Difference Between Homegroup And Mapping A Network Drive

Is it just Libraries and Public and Personal sections? How are those different than mapping a new drive and setting permissions and/or passwords accordingly?
