Dell Lap Top, XPS with Windows 7 Ultimate. When I click Start, Devices and Printers, the panel opens as it should in Control Panel ^ Hardware and Sound ^ Devices and Printers but it just sits there and does nothing with the little circle spinning that shows that it is busy. It will just sit there all day doing nothing.
I have installed the following printers: Epson LX-300+II, HP Laserjet 1010, HP Colour Lasterjet 1515, Canon IP5200.
The printers work and are all displayed from Word, IE, etc, but only one printer shows up in Windows 7 Devices & Printers - usually whichever is selected as default printer. If I remove the displayed printer, it shows me another one. When I first installed, it showed me all the printers, but problems started after I had to remove and reinstall my printers.
In this tutorial, we demonstrate the new Devices and Printers section of the control panel. This new feature of Windows 7 aims to make it easier to work with and troubleshoot peripheral devices, such as printers, monitors, external storage devices and game controllers. Instead of trying to find your device in a big long list, Devices and Printers tries to assign an icon to it which represents the actual device more clearly.
every time I clicked on my devices and printers section, it will never fully load. The green loading bar will only get so far then it would just sit there and not load anything. Also it won't load no matter which path I take. I have tried to research solutions for this matter such as I have tried putting my bluetooth on enabled, turning off my printer spooler and removing ccleaner but nothing has helped.
I've got a brand new Asus G53jw-A1. I took some settings from my old Asus m50vm-B1 when I bought it. Now when I try to print, the G53 is using the settings of the m50vm and gives me an error saying it can't find a computer named m50vm-B1.
I'm hooking up the G53 to a HP Deskjet 6988 via USB and it won't print or even let me go to Devices and Printers so I can delete all the printers and let Windows recognize them fresh.
I tried searching my registry for all keys "m50vm-B1" and deleted them, then restarted.

I mentioned this feature in my Windows 7 Beta review, but I'd like to point out again that it's not just Device Manager for Dummies: This new Windows 7 feature can actually find and fix problems with your PC. And it really works. I've used this feature to find missing drivers on two different PCs now, and in both cases a similar search via Device Manager netted no lover at all.
Here's how it works. Launch Devices and Printers (use Start Menu search) and locate any devices with a yellow bang graphic on its icon. Right-click and choose Troubleshoot to launch one of Windows 7's stealthy new features: A troubleshooting infrastructure that links back to Microsoft's data center to always provide the most up-to-date help. The troubleshooter will detect the problem and look for solutions.
And while I can't claim a 100 percent success rate quite yet, it's certainly worked better than device manager: I found a biometric driver and fixed a Bluetooth problem on my laptop, and found a system management bus driver on my desktop using this tool. Nice! http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7_beta_notes.asp
I am having an issue with accessing the Devices and Printers page in Control Panel. Each time I click on it-it never loads (look at the screenie to see my point). This may be due to an issue with my Bluetooth drivers. They install successfully but they can never find a device nor can I open any settings page for the Bluetooth. If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful. This is what is keeping my Windows 7 experience from being perfect.
Are the icons in the Devices and Printers window (Device Stage) replaced immediately upon any system update, or do they just show up and get replaced at random whenever Windows 7 feels like doing it?
I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 on two different machines (Ultimate x64 on one machine and Enterprise x64 on another) and the devices listed show the stock icons even though the drivers for those peripheral units are installed. All "Update" settings are set to recommended and automatic on both machines.
Weird thing is before I re-installed Ultimate on the first machine, the true icons showed up in Devices and Printers for my monitor, keyboard (MS keyboard), Canon scanner, Brother printer... I didn't quite pay attention how/when that happened, but I was pleasantly surprised with the extra access I had by just clicking that life-like icon.
Now, since the re-install, all I get are the stock icons.
Funny thing is when I hit "Properties", say - for the keyboard, which is a Microsoft 3000 kbd, the info simply reads: "Unknown Manufacturer", "HID keyboard Device". The MS drivers are installed though.
Same thing for my monitors (Dell 2209WA). Windows downloaded the drivers, but the properties info shows the monitor as "unknown manufacturer". How weird is that?
Something I'm missing? Or is this Device Stage fubared somehow?
Windows 7 v6.1 32 bit. PC on home network, Two PCs on cable and up to five on wireless. Network Printer. The Devices and Printers page of Control Panel will not load. Green bar starts across the top of the screen but does not complete. Printer still works with MS Office programs. Logitech Web Cam also works. The page opens in Safe Mode. The page does not open when all startup items are disabled in MSConfig
I downloaded the latest Windows update just a bit ago. When the comp rebooted I had an Adobe Flash update (which I installed). Rebooted, then opened Word to print out a document and it couldn't locate any printers. Tried to "Add printer" and got the error "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."Perplexed, I decided to check my printers in Devices and Printers--and it is no longer there! Not that I click on Devices and Printers and it is black--the Devices and Printers option is no longer there when I click on the Start menu.
I installed Windows 7 Professional and the devices and printers windows was loading just fine. Then I noticed that it wouldn't load at all, and just get the green status bar thing across the top of the screen. Here is what I have tried:1. Restarted the Bluetooth support service which is the preferred fix, and that didn't work.2. Created new profile, and the windows appeared. However, as soon as I added a network printer, though the printer works and I got no errors installing, the Devices and Printers window is back to the not loading situation.3. I have downloaded Windows 7 specific drivers for the printer and still the problem occurs only when I add a network printer.Edit: I did want to add this was an upgrade from Vista Business that I performed. I have not, and am trying to avoid, reinstalling the entire OS from an image on the server. I did use CC Cleaner when in Vista, but I wouldn't think that was the issue carried over to 7 when the devices and printers screen works until you add a network printer. Just adding more info and glad to be here!I am on a domain, though I don't think that is the issue
Whenever I try to open "Devices and Printers," the green bar at the top of the next window begins moving from left to right slowly and never completes the trip to the end of the bar and the Devices and Printer window never opens. I have to open "Devices and Printers several times over several days with the same result.
Whenever i enter to Devices and Printers on the laptop it enters immediately but when i do the same in PC (which is way more powerful machine) it enters but has a little (i mean little LITTLE, almost a second xD) but still noticeable delay...So my only guess right now to explain that behaviour is because PC has more usb devices attached to it (3 usb devices), 2 monitors, also the default Fax and XPS printing icons..Is that correct, im being too paranoic??PS: Please post if you have many devices and you have the same behaviourPS2: I attached the same devices that were connected in my pc to the laptop and menu still loads almost immediately in laptop and has a delay in PC.But i've found something, whenever i right click the PC name icon in Devices and Printers in my pc it delays to show the right click menu and doing the same in my laptop and right click in PC name icon it loads menu faste
i have have created my custom icon librarys, opened DDores.dll with Anolis.Resourcer 0.8.8 an found the icons i wish to replace but it wont change the icons.
On my Windows 7 my Devices and Printers keep loading. I enabled the Bluetooth support service but problem didn't solved. I don't have a Bluetooth device on my computer..

Ok, i love this feature where Windows 7 recognizes my hardware and adds icons to match ,however not all my products model numbers are available thus rendering the feature useless for external h drives etc.
Question:- is is there any way to give the system this information or to change the default icons manually?
I need to remove the mouse from devices and printers but i click uninstall and it says its removing it, the bar in uninstalling devices box just keeps going and nothing happens. I cant remove it from device manager since it does not show up. How can I remove it?
I have a printer icon in "Printers and Devices" that I can't get rid of and I believe that it is causing conflicts with my being able to use my printer correctly, i.e., I have downloaded drivers for my printer but when troubleshoot the correct printer icon, the results show that there is no printer driver installed for my printer. The offending icon is the "HP Universal Printing PCL 5" icon.(Please see the screenshot in the attachment.) I have tried the "Remove Device" option many times, but the icon reappears. Also, frequently, when I click on the IE icon, the page that comes up is blank and I have to go into Tools/Internet Options to get my home page back. I don't know if these problems are related, but I wanted to mention them both in case they are.
Now Default View Is Large Icons. I Try to Change Default to Small Icons Like This. But When I Re-Open Devices And Printers Windows. Default View Is Back to Large Icons [It No Remember Small Icons View Follow I'm Settings Before].
How can I rename a game controller in Devices and Printers? I have a saitek p2500 rumble pad controller that the computer is picking up as Cyborg Force Rumble Pad for some reason. I've reinstalled the software for a million times and the programming software for it is also picking it up as Cyborg Force Rumble Pad. Cyborg Force Rumble Pad doesn't exist anywhere on saiteks website. The .INF file nams it saitek p2500 rumble pad. I'm using the latest drivers for the controller. The blue light used to be real bright a few times along with the correct name.
When I plug in my flash drive this shows up in Devices and Printers:
When I Google what's written below it, I only get a few Asian pages.
So what is it and which language is that?
Why would Windows 7 use an Asian driver as its default flash drive driver? Also my flash drive is 8GB. I'm guessing drive capacity doesn't matter for the driver and it just happens to say 4GB.
Really weird, when selecting Devices and Printers (Device Stage) in the menu the progress bar would take forever and never display anything - just blank.
Finally discovered it was actually a bluetooth issue in services. I don't even know why I looked there - -
THE FIX at least for me..
Click Start button, type "services" into the search program and files box. This brings up a list in the menu, select Services. This should open a list of local services on your system.., Find 'Bluetooth Service" and make sure it has started, right click and set to 'automatic' (mine was already set), Select "Bluetooth Support Service" and start, set to automatic (mine was set on manual) --
I have a HP desktop computer running Windows 7 64bit. I just did a factory restore. Everything was re-installed and works fine except one of the printers. There are two printers. A HP Photosmart wireless printer, which works fine. The second one is a Brother HL-2140 USB connected printer. It works fine as well BUT it does not appear in Devices and printers.
I have used Brother's uninstall tool to remove it. I then downloaded, from Brother's website, the correct driver and I re-installed (A/V was disabled during this process). The printer appeared in Devices and Printers but shortly after it disappeared again. The printer is still working but it not viewable from Devices and Printers.
I was wondering if there was any way of changing the icons displayed in the Devices and Printers folder. I was wanting to use life like photos of each of my devices inplace of what windows wants me to see.
Some of my external drive find on the PC... Windows 7 and other external drives don't.. Those shows up in the printer and devices.. How do I get them to work as a letter drive in my computer....I have bought 2 floppy drives and don't work either... everything works on my laptop.... Just so much trouble to hook everything up..
i am having problems with my windows 7 devices and printers screen. I have tried all solutions like stopping the blue tooth support service, uninstalling printer drivers, registry fix for IE 8, stopping printer spooler service and changing display icons all to no avail. I have no idea when the problem started but ive been experiencing this for three months now. i think i dont want to reinstall my OS if it ii am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on 4gb ram and intel core i5 processor. also using ie9 as my browser.
They told me that there were a lot of updates that were recently applied and I'm wondering if one of them was an optional driver update provided from Microsoft for his printer. When you go into Devices and Printers the printer is shown but it isn't considered a printer, with the icon for it falling under "Unspecified" (see attached screenshot).I've seen BSOD's result from drivers for wireless adapters and video cards that were delivered via Windows update before so the first thing I tried was to go to HP's website and download the basic driver from their website, a very small download. Installation appeared to be successful and for a moment appeared to fix the problem because a queued print job started to print. But when we tried to print something else the system said there were no printers installed to use again. Also for a brief moment the printer (as well as a couple of other soft printers like the Fax option and Microsoft's PDF maker knockoff; can't remember what it's called) did appear for a minute with the green check mark over the correct printer icon. It looked like it was fixed for about a minute but then reverted back to what you see in the screenshot without any interaction from us.
