My wireless connection on dell inspiron 1545 is too slow at 7 or 8 mbps. BT infinity technician checked the line and the speed on his laptop was showing 60mbps with Ethernet cable and 54 with wireless. I tried another laptop it works fine at 50 mbps.
Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on how to get my wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card to enable on my network connections screen? About a month ago I pressed the f2 and fn key together to turn off my wireless and it seems to have done something as when u try to turn it on the same way it doesn't do anything? Also when I highlight the wireless network connection mini card in the network connections screen it says it disabled, I click enable this network device and the screen pops up to say its enabled yet when that screen disappears the connection is still greyed out and says disabled. When I ask Ask my computer to diagnose the problem It says there may be a problem with the drivers. I've uninstalled the drivers and downloaded them from the dell website and installed them Again , still not working !! I'm confused as everyone keeps saying on this forum to just press f2 and fn but it's not working
Where is the switch on the front or side of the computer, or function keys if available, to enable wireless capability on the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop?

I have a standard Dell 1545 Inspiron laptop running vista with Intel duo core processor and 4gb ram. Is it a straightforward process to upgrade to windows seven? If I get the windows seven installation disc can I do a clean install or are there any Dell bits and pieces to stop me doing this? Will I need any other drivers etc after the install?
About a week ago, I was stricken with a BSOD, can't remember the error code. After that, the computer ran like crap. Even in Safe Mode, it ran like crap, constant freezing after about a minute after boot up. I did a little research and found that registry errors can be responsible for this, so I ran a couple different registry cleaners and it seemed to have done the trick. A couple days later, it went back to running like crap.I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7, and still runs like crap.Every time I boot up in normal mode, after about five minutes, the computer freezes up. The mouse pointer still moves, but is unresponsive to function changes. Meaning, the pointer doesn't change from arrow to hand to I-beam, etc., and clicking does nothing. I don't even get the "(Not Responding)" tag in the title bar of the software. Ctrl+Alt+Del does next to nothing. The best result I get from it is a blank, black screen, and I have to shut down manually by holding down the power button, which is the case 100% of the time, black screen or not.The computer runs perfectly fine in Safe Mode with Networking. I'm writing this post on it right now.Someone suggested I remove one RAM stick at a time and test the computer with one RAM stick in, changing it from one slot to the next, then testing the other stick. Did that. No results.
OK so I have tried deleting the touchpad in device manager and removing the driver, and reinstalling the device from scratch. When this didn't work I thought there must be a problem with the touchpad itself and so bought a new one and installed it. Problem is it still doesn't work.If I go into device manager and look for it I have to show hidden devices and then it comes up with the yellow triangle next to it.I show properties on it and it says its the Dell Touchpad, Manufacturer is Alps Electronics, and its plugged into the PS/2 mouse port.In the Device Status box it says:This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)The Driver date is 02/05/2010 and the version is 7.1107.115.102I have also noticed that on the details tab under power data the current power state is D3, which I believe is off.Something else I have noticed which may or may not be related is that the laptop doesn't enter sleep mode when the lid is closed, altho it is set to and will enter sleep if I select it in the shutdown options.

I have just upgraded my Dell Inspiron 1545 from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit home premium. However there is no driver for the built in Creative webcam and it no no longer is seen or works. There is no driver on dell support under windows 7 drivers and there is only a vista driver which does not work when installed on windows 7. Can any one help me to find a suitable driver that works.
I have a dell 1545 inspiron and I am trying to format all the drives and do a clean install of vista until I get windows 7 pretty soon. I am doing a clean install because I found a rootkit (gecko-crash) when I ran a housecall online scan. I was able to format the F drive which was vista recovery drive. But D is a system drive and contains some system files, some of which I don't recognize and one folder is titled 'Boot'. I can copy other files to D(which means viruses can copy themselves to it) and I have to format it because it might be infected as well but can't be formatted.. I keep getting 'can't format D system drive' messages.Btw I have ran spyware doctor scan, online house-call scan and nothing has showed up. But the system was kinda slow and I have to do a clean install now.
