Customizing The Win7 Logon Screen
If anyone is interested in customizing their Windows 7 Logon screen such as moving items or removing items.
Current Edits so far:
Change Wallpaper - Very easy yes we all know
Change button text shading - another easy one everyone knows
Remove Windows 7 Banner
Remove Shutdown buttons - Red button set at bottom right corner
Remove Ease of access button - Blue button bottom left corner ( This one I haven't seen anyone accomplish yet and every site I visited said it isn't possible
as of 2 am this morning I successfully changed the following
Custom Userbox
Custom Enter Button
Custom Shutdown Button set
Custom Ease of Access Button set
If anyone tries these out especially on a x64 machine and has trouble let me know.
I've had report of a blackscreen when locking the computer but it hasn't happened to my machine running x86. Also before doing any of these hacks create a restore point first
goto control panel/system'advanced system settings/system protection and click create
Ok so heres instructions:
If your not comfortable with editing yourself here are the basebrd.dll and the authui.dll files that I customized for my pc. They will work for all versions of Windows 7.

Enable - On Resume, Display Logon Screen For Screen Saver
I'm creating a Windows 7 Image using the AIK. I been using Audit Mode to install my applications. I've created a custom power scheme so that the computer will not hibernatesleep while I'm in Audit Mode. My question is I would like to enable the checkbox to require a password to bring the computer out of a screensaver mode during the OOBE pass or via the SetupComplete.cmd.Â

Customizing Start Menu Via Scripting
I am trying to do this: 1) Write a script to rename the My Music library to something else (e.g. My Menu), remove the existing folders, include my own folder, and choose General Items for "Customize library for". 2) Write a script to show My Music library (now known as My Menu because of step 1 above) as Menu in Start Menu. That is, script has to do what we manually do - Start Menu -> Properties -> Start Men -> Customize -> My Music - Show as Menu. Searching the web, I found that task 1 above may be possible using the IShellLibrary Interface object which requires Visual .NET C++ or C# which I am not familiar. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd391719(VS.85).aspx Is it possible to do task 1 using VBScript or by changing some registry entries? I cannot find anything on task 2 above. Can somebody advise?

Screen Becomes Corrupted And Logon Screen Changed Color
This is so strange. My screen resolution is corrupted and my logon screen changed from Green to Blue. Steps: 1) Using Office Word 2007, Outlook 2007, IE 8 Beta, and Live Messenger on Windows 7 2) Pressed Ctrl + Alt + Delete to lock my computer Observation: 1) Screen is corrupted (resolution becomes 640 x 480 from 1280 x 800 and colors become 16 bits) 2) Logon screen is now Blue instead of Green I was able to change the resolution of the screen. However, still don't know how to switch my logon back to Green color.

Key Customizing [ Esc ] To Close Windows
Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers, apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7. I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows. I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at. If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.

Is There A Logon Screen Screensaver ?
In XP & Vista a Windows screensaver would turn on after a short while if the system was left on the user[s] log-in screen. At least with my installation of Windows 7Â RC1, this does not appear to be the case. if left on that screen, nothing ever happens. Is this WAD? And, if so, is there any way to turn it on?

No Screensaver On Logon Screen
My wife and I each have user accounts and we "Switch User" back and forth all the time, and sometimes leave it at the logon screen with our two icons to click on. In XP, the screensaver would run on the logon screen, but I'm noticing that nothing happens from the logon in 7. We have use the photo screensaver which makes it a digital picture frame of sorts, but if you leave it at the logon, you'll come back an hour later to see our two icons waiting for you. Has the screensaver on logon been removed or is there a configuration I'm missing?

Customize Welcome / Logon Screen
Has anyone found a way to change the "Welcome" screen without downloading a "fix" from the inet? I've tried creating a jpeg (the correct size) in windowssystem32oobeinfoackgrounds (saved as defaultBackground) and making a chage in the registry to: HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Authentication>LogonUI>Background... Key OEMBackground value 1 ... but to no avail. What is interesting is that the original MS background file ((bitmap) in system 32oobe) that is the welcome screen has security permissions on it .... with Adminstrators only having Read/Read and Execute ONLY... O.O TrustedInstaller has full rights to it . Any suggestions?

Black Screen Instead Of Logon Screen
I use the bios selection to boot from either drive A or B.I use Windows dual-boot menu on drive B to select between Vista and 7RC. The black screen problem was first observed with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the Beta distributed at the Installation Festival. I had taken only one monitor to the festival and everything appeared to be working fine then. Once home, I noticed that I had no sound. I downloaded drivers for my SPXFI card and got sound but, got the black screen on reboot. I asumed that the SB driver was the cause. I had configured the Display on DVI 2 as my main display. I then tried the 32-bit version with the same results. I had purchased a brand new 1TB drive for my Win 7 experimentation. I had disabled my main drive (A) throught the BIOS for installation. I hastily concluded that W7 was not quite ready for my system. I installed Vista Home Premium on my B drive using the same method and everything worked fine. When RC was announced, I downloaded the 64-bit version, created a partition on my B drive and installed it there while my A drive was disabled from the BIOS. Installation went fine but I encountered the same black screen problem on the final reboot. However, I observed the odd disk activity and did not want to turn of the computer while this was going on. I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and other things and managed to get some voice from the computer. I had activated the Access functionality from the invisible logon screen. I did another Ctrl+Alt+Delete, typed my password and followed by Enter. The monitor connected to DVI 1 immediately came on. I did not have a menu bar because I had specified the other monitor as my primary one. A right-click on the screen brought up the contextual menu, from which I selected Personalize > Display > Change display settings. Clicking the "Detect" button turned on the second monitor. I plan on altering my connection so that my main display will be on DVI 1 instead of 2. In the mean time, I will blind-type my password and restore the settings.

Group Policy Interactive Logon Message Does Not Display In Win7
Our organization deploys a "privacy notice" using the interactive logon message in group policy (computer-windows-security settings-local policy-security). This works fine on the XP machines. The user has to acknowledge the message before being presented with the logon screen. On windows 7 machines, even though RSOP says the policy is applied and the information HAS been entered in the registry, the message window never appears during logon. Is there something extra that needs to be set to make this work for Windows 7 machines?

I'm pretty sure its the video card driver or the video card itself. Computer Type: Desktop Video Card Type: ATI Radeon 4870 Works in safe mode with internet Alt Ctrl Del works but doesn't show taskmanager Cannot logout only shutdown. Fresh install (today) Tried reinstalling the vista driver and then the windows 7 driver. I heard something about BIOS could be a factor but i don't think so.

Replacement Bitmaps For Logon Screen
Nothing special just give the Bitmaps a Black hue instead of the standard colors. Screenshots of my Laptop screen I apologize apparently my digital camera sucks, they don't really show the effect of the change as well as actually looking at the screen. Also I have uploaded a copy of my own edited Authui.dll with the excess crap removed from the file to get filesize down. Instructions to download are included with the zip file, along with a copy of the original Bitmaps Note: If your looking at screenshot of my laptop, you'll notice buttons still look blue, that is only from the transparency effect coming from the wallpaper. The buttons will take on the hue of the wallpaper.

Slow Logon, Welcome Screen Hangs
I have a slow login problem on two computers with Windows 7 RTM. The peculiar thing about my problem is that it always takes 30 seconds for the Welcome screen to disappear regardless of the computer. Also, on the laptop, I have the Pandora gadget installed and it will start playing music about 12-15 seconds after I have entered the password but it still takes the full 30 seconds before the Welcome screen goes away. It is as if the Welcome screen is waiting for something to happen before it shows the desktop and it times out after 30 seconds. On the desktop, it has happened under the following installation sequences (I've started from scratch reinstalling Windows 7 several times): Fresh install of Windows 7, join to domain, setup domain account as a local admin, install Office 2007 Pro from domain account. Fresh install of Windows 7, install Office 2007 Pro as local admin, join to domain, setup domain account as a local admin, restore settings from Windows 7 RC using Windows Easy Transfer In both of the above scenarios, it was after the last action that the slow login problem started. It is also worth pointing out that this problem only affects my domain account and not other domain accounts or the local admin account. I have tried my domain account on a coworker's laptop running Windows 7 RTM and I did not have any problems, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with my domain account. I don't have a login script and I am not using roaming profiles. Also, this problem did not happen on Windows 7 Beta or Windows 7 RC. If I logout and log back in with my domain account it takes the full 30 seconds again before the Welcome screen disappears.

Multiple User Logon Screen
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on 10/17. When I finished, I added the various family members userid's & set up each account. For 1 week, anytime we logged off of a userid, all 4 other userid's were displayed. On 10/24 (1 week later), they disappeared & I can't get them back. I called tech support & allowed the person to remote & he could not get them to reappear either. The only thing that appears now is the last person that was logged on & a window that shows "Other User" which requires you to type in a user name & password. Previously, all the user names were displayed, you clicked on the one you wanted, & typed in the password. How do I get this to go back to that display?
