Continuously Disconnecting-connecting USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE (MP3 Player
Jan 21, 2012
I have a big problem with a MP3 Player which I use it as a storage device. It has only 512 MB and I decided to use it as a stick. A long time ago i had encountered the problem shown in the "TITLE". So when i connect the device in ANY usb port it connects and disconnects every 3 seconds continously. Don't forget that this is only a MP3 player and on the box it is mentioned that is driverless. Until this problem the device was working well and i could use it as a little stick. I tried to uninstall the driver in Device Manager and to desable it but every time the same thing. The most important thing is now.....I connected it on a laptop and it works and i saw that the laptop has the same driver...I mean when i connect it it installs a driver. Also i can connect to my PC (where this problem occurs to my MP3 player) other usb devices such as hard disks printers webcams and everything works fine. So this means that the problem is not to the USB or the PM3 Player or driver...
Keyboard and mouse drivers unaffected.USB Mass storage device properties messagewith driver check on:"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device."with driver check off:Tells me drivers are corrupt or missing.Search show diver where it should be:C:\Windows\System32\drivers\usbstor.sys (also usbfilter.sys).Used the HP Recovery Manager to restore factory setting for USBStor.sys, it indicates it is successful but no changeon reboot, still cannot use flash drives, SD cards, external HDs. Units work find on my laptop.Called HP 4 times, after extensive troubleshooting each time, following their instructions, go to hp.com/go/instant, get screen saying request has been received. Each time tech tells me he cannot find my request. After a while, read 2 hours, told they need to talk to supervisor, will call me back, KISS OF DEATH, never hear from them.
Been using the new Windows 7 for a week or so now, everything is great! But i have one big issue. Every time i plug in a USB pen drive or my tomtom device, a window appears with a message saying that the device drivers can not be installed. When i click on the ballon message it just displays the device followed by a red X and 'Failed'
I have tried many usb mass storage devices and i still have the same issue.
On one of my Win 7 Pro computers, I almost always get the error message when trying to *eject* a flash/thumb drive: "Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device. This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device, and then try again." This occurs all the time, even when I close down Adobe Illustrator, the program I usually copy a file from onto the flash drive.
beside mass storage controller in device manager. when right clicked>properties tells me the device is "unknown" and there is no driver installed for it. I've a Toshiba satellite running windows8. can someone suggest a link for an appropriate driver download?
I have a generic mp3 player which charges from my laptop, but the laptop doesn't recognise it as a mass storage device! A local phone shop (Cambodia) told me they use software from (url)... to download music to phones and mp3 players, but I can find it on the net!

I'm having a problem when I connect or disconnect my firewire cable I get a BSOD. I'm not sure what to do. I think I have the latest drivers for firewire.
I recently purchased a OCZ Diesel 8GB USB drive and i plugged it into my computer and at first everything was fine then I tried to transfer some files onto it and kept hearing the "dadum...Dadum" as the drive kept connecting and disconnecting and now when I plug it in it wont stop doing that. Any suggestions on how I can stop this from happening or do I need to return the drive?I tried different usb ports on the front and back of my case and I put in my old USB and it worked fine. I also tried it on another computer and when installing the drivers it got hung up on "searching pre configured driver folders" and the same thing happened.
I have a 1TB external storage drive that uses its own power supply and connects to my laptop via USB 2.0 cable. For months I've had absolutely no problem out of the device, until the computer randomly decided to forget the device was plugged in. Now I'm lucky to get the device to be recognized by the computer at all, and when it is recognized, if I try to move anything to/from the device, the connection is immediately severed from the computer.I use this device for my backup as well as holding on to things I would rather not get rid of. All my drivers are up to date, I've done all the Power Management checking and unchecking that I've read from other threads found via Google search, and still it won't work correctly for me.
I have an issue where my computer makes the "ba-dum" sound randomly and hangs for a moment, but I haven't connected or disconnected a drive. It seems only to happen when I am moving the mouse. I noticed it for the first time after Norton 360 started telling me I needed to buy more online backup space. I also noticed that the Norton backup drive, which shows up as an "other" folder in my "computer" folder would pop in and out in time with the sound. I called Norton technical support. They were terrible, so I uninstalled Norton. I downloaded a trial of Vipre instead. When I installed Vipre, it said that Norton had not been completely uninstalled. I couldn't find any Norton programs in my program manager, so I installed Vipre anyway. The sound and hangups are happening less frequently, but they still occur. I no longer see a drive popping in and out on my "computer" folder.
If I have lots of files (more than 70) on a DVD-RW. Windows takes ages to read the disk and be ready to access the files. Is there an optimum way of doing this that makes Windows happier?I update the files fairly regularly.I do have DVD buring software. (In any case, if I use Windows to update the disk, it finalises the disk.) I remember with earlier versions of Windows using a UDF reader, and then there was no speed problem.
I've just got a StarTech dock station for the Hard Drive (with Esata and USB 3.0 ports). When I first used it first time. The first thing I use is ESATA port and ran without a problem (run CrystalDiskInfo and CrstalDiskMark to test) and also I format the drive. But when I try USB 3.0 port is won't response well (using express card). For example it found new hardware and open the drive - but then I ran CrystalDiskInfo or CrstalDiskMark it won't open unless I disconnect the USB then the program will open after I disconnect the USB. I've try copy a file across nope crash or stop working. So I've try using USB 2 to see if not the USB 3.0 same problem but gone back to Esata port work fine!So I've try on another laptop to see if not the Dock problem. And USB 2 work!!!! even USB 3.0 work using Express card so it not the dock problem (The laptop is running Win XP 32 bits).I also got WD passport and book (1tb/3tb) and they both work fine on my laptop plus the USB 3.0.
Win 7 pro 32bit Lenovo x201 tablet: previously working USB thumb drives & Seagate 750G usb external drive now NOT recognized by Win 7 work fine c/ other win 7 systems.Tried uninstall /reinstall usb port but get driver error "this operation requires interactive windows station" also tried MS fixit repair but repair fails to complete.
I am installing Windows 7 on my Compaq Presario SR5010NX. SATA hard drives and IDE hard drives both detect and are visible in Setup (BIOS) as well as in my existing Windows 7 which is on a small 37 Gb SATA. When I try to install Windows 7 onto a new SATA hard drive 1.0T it wont show up in the window to select it for installation. The next window says to brows to the device driver to install it in the system. It describes the needed driver as a 'Mass Storage Controller Driver' which I cannot find anywhere. WTF do I do ?
I turned on my computer a couple of days ago and found that my entire hard drive had been erased including the operating system. When I tried to reinstall the OS it asked me to load a mass storage driver.

I have got very lucky and acquired a Microworks Black-Hawk XR-5 gaming laptop. Basic story is that my father's company purchased it to run a very complicated program and the laptop ended up not working with it. So it's been collecting dust for years until I picked it up and began using it. The laptop had XP on it when I got it, but I soon installed Windows 7 and that went rather smoothly, except one thing. The Mass Storage Controller is missing a driver? Windows can't seem to figure out what driver I need either, as going through the automatic updates solves nothing and it keeps telling me that Windows can't find the driver software. I'd simply go to the manufacturer and find what driver I need, however, Microworks seems to no longer have a page. So, I have absolutely no idea what to do.
I have an HP G60 440US notebook, It has vista premium edition.I am trying to upgrade it to windows 7. The issue i am having is when 7 wants to start the install a box pops up and reads some think like Mass storage driver not installed. How is this fixed so i can finish installing 7 on my notebook?
have loaded windows 7 7000 on two test machines, desktop running fine. clean installs in both cases. toshiba satellite a200 runs faster than vista, better shutdown et al, but has a quality index of 2.0 due to driver not loading for mass storage controller, pci memory controller and one unnamed device under other devices.
tried loading the drivers for vista for mass storage controller and chipset under compatibility mode which installed but not recognized by windows 7.
anyone with a toshiba laptop get their msc functioning? any ideas?
