Cannot Get Rid Of Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64x. Previously, I had 32-bit Vista Ultimate.

I have a Dell Precision M90, with 4 gigs of ram, a 2.00 GHz core duo processor, and a Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M video card.

In the device manager, my display adapter shows as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I'm decent with computers, so I've upgraded video card drivers before. However, for some reason it is not allowing me to upgrade this driver. I have tried with both a 2500M driver as well as a 7900GTX driver (which worked for me in Vista).

I have also tried uninstalling the driver first, but it won't let me install another one before restarting and when I restart it just reinstalls the Standard VGA Graphics adapter.

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
I put Windows 7 on my friends computer since he wanted me to, so I installed it. But there was one problem. His resolution is stuck at 640x480. It said he is running from a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. His computer is fairly old, but all of the hardware is pretty good except for the video card. I brought him my old 7700 GTS for him to use for the time being, but I cannot install the drivers for it, and the computer still says he is running Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Video DRIVER - Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
I am really, really stressing over the fact that my video driver is not working.  I just upgraded this BETA from Vista, my video driver supported Aero and everything, now I come, I look in Device Manager, it says "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and I tried installing drivers, nothing worked!

Standard VGA Adapter
I just installed Windows 7 RC1 32-bit OS onto my laptop. Without thinking i needed any drivers, i went to play World of Warcraft. It told me that it could not locate a display device and wouldn't work. I figured i needed to install my grpahics card drivers for my Nvidia 9 series card. When i went to install the drivers, an error message appeared saying that it could not locate drivers compatible with my device.

I went to dxdiag and under display it shows that i have a standard vga adapter and won't recognize my actual graphics card. I'm not sure if i'm missing drivers, i haven't installed anything else except for this attempt at installing the nvidia driver.

Generic Non-PnP Monitor On Standard VGA Graphic Adapter
OK as Ive been looking around the site Ive noticed that there are many issues like this one, and Im sure there are plenty of people out there that have this problem.

My "Windows Experience Index" is at a 1.0 only because my Graphics, and Gaming Graphics rating are at 1.0. Everything else is at 5.9 which I can live with.

When I look at my adavanced settings for my monitor it Shows my Nvidia GPU but only running with 14 MB total avail mem. And I know that NOT right. Unfortunatly when I went to Nvidia's site and ran the auto detect it said that I didnt even have their product and that I had the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I can't seem to find the right drivers for this to fix it all, and I would love to be able to "Experience" Windows 7 at its fullest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully the attached photos will give you an idea as to what Im working with. Also When i toubleshoot Aero Ive received this message:

"The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."

And when I try to change my screensaver to a 3D one it states that I either need a newer graphics card or one that is compatible with Direct3D.

Get Rid Of Standard Hot Keys
Microsoft, Your "standard" Windows hot keys drive me crazy. *YOU* think they are convenient, *I* think they are annoying. Please, give me a choice; please, give me a way to disable them.
I am talking about all these WndLogo+1, WndLogo+2, WndLogo+M, Shift+WndLogo+M, etc

HINT: Using NoWinKeys is not an option. I do not want to disable ALL of them.

1280x1024 32 Bit With Standard VGA Driver
Is there any way to force the Standard VGA Driver to display in 1280x1024 32bit? If I look at the modes available, then I find 1280x1024, but only in 16bit.

I have an old Nvidia GeForce2 MX/400, and after installing the XP drivers I was able to run at 1280x1024 in 32bit, but I was getting some crashes in nv4_mini.sys when trying to install DVDFab. "The Internet" tells me that this is due to the XP drivers, so I uninstalled them again and rolled back to the Standard VGA Driver and was able to install the software. But now I am limited to 16bit again.

So, is there any way to force this?

Updated Resolutions For Standard VGA Driver
It's been what... 10+ years of the same "Standard VGA Driver" which used to serve a more useful role when screens were smaller, but these days in the age of laptops, the resolutions it supports are just not working.

We use several medium age laptops (3-5 years), still 64 bit, still multi-core, and certainly not beyond their prime, unfortunately NVIDIA doesn't produce windows 7 drivers for the vid cards in our machines (GForce 440 Go).

The only driver that really works is the Standard VGA Driver, but it only supports standard resolutions from 10 years ago, the largest being 1024x768.  This means we just can't use Windows 7 on any of these machines, which we were hoping to do, simply because the SVD doesn't offer 1280x800.

Couple questions, has anyone produced a customized version of the Standard VGA driver?  Or an Standard WXGA Driver?  Or is it possible to add resolutions ourselves to the standard driver that would solve this seemingly simple problem?  Last, why hasn't Microsoft updated the supported list of resolutions to cover at least the basics for laptops or even the base screen resolutions of any modern LCD screen?

Again, love Windows 7, just wish we could use it on all our machines!

Standard VGA Driver Doesn't Support DVD Playback
My old ATI RADEON Mobility 7500 graphics card is not supported in/under Windows7, so I use the rather fine MS-provided Standard VGA driver.

Unfortunately this approach doesn't support DVD playback in Windows Media Player: Each time I insert a DVD and WMP starts playing I get an error message that analog copyright protection is nott supported by the driver.

Now: Can't the Standard VGA driver be corrected/extended thus that it would allow/support DVD playback? It's entirely up to MS (e.g. to lock the VGA output during DVD playback) from my point of view ..

Graphics Adapter Can't Support Aero On XP Computer
graphics adapter can't support aero on XP computer...i'm a bit confused about graphics adapter vs. video card. i know that this is probably a fairly basic question but i am confused as to what drivers/hardware i might have to upgrade to be able to run aero on an older XP computer. I installed a new graphics card last year on it (nvidia geforce 7300 gs) which windows 7 upgrade advisor says is compatible but on the same report it told me that the graphics adapter is not.

the computer shipped with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200---i guess i'm confused as to what exactly the graphics adapter is and how i go about seeing if i can upgrade it to run aero.

Get Rid Of Floppy Drive A:
I've got a floppy drive A: installed on my computer, but of-course, i don't have no floppy drive, how do i get rid of this problem (im using windows 7 RC).

Answer:-

Go into your BIOS and set it to disable the floppy controller. The BIOS will tell Windows (any version of Windows) that a floppy drive is present, even if none is hooked up, if the floppy controller is enabled.

Right click on my computer and select properties. In the hardware tab select 'Device Manager'. In the device manager there should be an expandable menu labelled 'Floppy disk controllers', expand this and you should see something like 'Standard floppy disk controller' right click on this and click disable. If at some time you do need to use a Floppy Drive you can re-able it.

Getting Rid Of Dual Boot Vista
Probably jumping the gun a little here :) . I currently run a dual boot Win7/Vista setup on my main PC. Currently on RC and since the Beta build I've only booted up Vista once; and although I used to like Vista, I couldn't wait to get back to Win7. So at this stage I'm already decided that Vista is going to go as soon as Win7 is available. So my question is what do I need to do to return my system to a single boot Win7 setup?

Dual Boot - Get Rid Of Vista
I seem to be having a right trauma with this lol. I originally had Vista installed. Then i installed 7 to another HDD and that worked fine. I could choose between the OS. Now, i want to get rid of vista and use 7 solely. Easy i thought. Remove the boot entry and format the partition. Thats where it went horrilby wrong

Upon reboot i got the dreaded BOOTMGR missing file do'h

Anyway long story short i manged to system restore and fixmbr to boot back into 7 (phew)

Now can anyone tell me of a way that i can ditch vista without the headache of this.

ive attached a screen shot of how things are layed out.

Plus can anyone recommend a good imaging program that i could use just in-case my tinkering leads to something i cant repair.

Dual Boot Get Rid Of The XP Partition
I have two questions:

I am running Windows 7 dualbooted with WinXP, everything works fine. I want to get rid of the XP partition, and keep the Windows 7 one only, but there is a problem. THe partition on which XP is installed is set as system and active. I've googled around but I've found no easy solutions to this. Any ideas on how to do this without reinstalling the OS?

My second question would be about the Windows 7 update: I installed the 7100 build, when it got released, but as I saw now, the latest builds are like 7200+. Are the changes updated on my build somehow, or I would have to reinstall to have the new build?

How Do I Get Rid Of The Could Not Enable Integration Features Error?
I'm working with Windows Virtual PC. My host OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x86, and my guest OS is Windows XP Home Edition SP3. Also, I installed all of the updates (on Windows Update) for XP. Ever since I installed integration components, I get an error when loading the VM that says:"Could not enable integration features.

Ensure that the remote access and Group Policy settings in the virtual machine operating system allow remote connections. Please contact your administrator for more details."It allows me to continue, and when I do, the integration components work fine. Anyone know how to get rid of this annoying error?

Getting Rid Of Win 7 Beta But Keep Data On Same Drive
I have looked through the board but I couldn't really find any help for my problem. I have quite a complicated problem. The Situation is that I have two harddrives

Drive 1: (320gigs)
  Partition C: - Windows Vista
  Partition D: - data

Drive 2: (1000gigs)
  Partition G: - Windows 7 beta + a lot of data

Now, I got Windows 7 RC1, and I installed it on partition D after I moved all the stuff from there to G. What I would like to do is removing Win 7 beta from G: without formatting it since there is a shitload of data that i cant back up anywhere. At the moment its like this:

Drive 1: (320gigs)
  Partition C: - Windows Vista
  Partition D: - Windows 7 RC1
Drive 2: (1000gigs)
  Partition G: - Windows 7 beta + a lot of data

I would like this:

Drive 1: (320gigs)
  Partition C: - Windows Vista
  Partition D: - Windows 7 RC1
Drive 2: (1000gigs)
  Partition G: - a lot of data

Is there a way to do it? At the moment I have three entries in the boot screen: two Win7s and Vista I can't just delete the win7 folder on G can I?

Windows 7 Wont Boot - Get Rid Of Vista
Right, whilst I realise there have been many posts on this subject my situation is slightly different. My computer originally came installed with Windows Vista 32-bit and when Widows 7 Ultimate 64-bit was released I wanted to upgrade. Obviously I had to do a custom installation as you can't simply upgrade from a 32-bit to a 64-bit system. To get around this I just installed windows 7 on my other (empty) hard drive. For a while everything worked fine and I had the option to either boot Windows Vista or Windows 7 on startup. I found that I was satisfied with Windows 7 and wanted to get rid of Vista to free up some hard drive space.

I used Paragon Partition Manager and Formatted the old Vista drive. I presumed that the system would have no trouble booting Windows 7 as the option had been there when the dual boot was available...how foolish of me. When I restarted the computer text appeared saying "no items to display". Initially I thought that the computer was just trying to boot from the clean harddrive so at the next startup I went into boot options and selected the other drive. I was then informed that "BOOT MGR" was missing and thus it couldn't load. Having misplaced the Windows 7 installation CD I ended up just reinstalling the old Vista OS. Is there any way I can get Windows 7 to boot properly again without doing a full reinstall?

P.S. After going to Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced Tab -> Startup and Recovery Settings and clicking on the Default Operating System drop down menu only Windows Vista was present.

Get Rid Of White Circle That Appears At Cursor On Mouse Press
When I press and hold a mouse button over basically anything, a white circle draws around the cursor. Is there a setting I can change (can't find one under personalization) or a reg hack I can use to banish it from my installation?

Also, the I beam cursor seems to freeze for a moment when I attempt to select a character, then jumps. It may be that these issues are related, perhaps not.

If anybody is able to assist, that'd be brilliant.
