Cannot Delete File Because It Is Used By Another Program

Aug 12, 2009

is anyone else having those issues? When i start an installer with UAC on and try to delete the installer after the installation is finished, it always displays me this message.

But not only installers. I had to delete my foobar2000 (audio player) installation manually and found out the exe is locked. i then tested a couple of other exe files with the same result - after i start them once, no matter if they need admin priveleges or not, they will be locked until i restart my pc.

I didn't have this issue on previous builds and i'm always doing a clean install when i try the new build out.

One thing though, i installed the Professional editon instead of ultimate cause i will get a legit key for it when it reaches our university's msdnaa and i didn't want to have to re-install anymore.

I can't test if it's a bug only present in my installation or only in the pro edition of win7 or if it's UAC that causes this, because i have no access to the only pc i have RTM running on...

Add / Remove Program File Only Contains Program Java

Dec 12, 2011

I don't know where this error hs_err_pid came from.I closed down explorer and there were all this notepad messages on my desktop and I can't get rid of them. Researching, I know this is a Java thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. My windows update is fully updated.I've run 3 virus programs.I notice this was addressed for someone using XP but what of Windows 7? My add/remove program file only contines the program Java (TM) update 29. Nothing else is listed as far as Java is concerned.I've run cleaner programs and these did not take care of the problem. Every time I restart my machine these errors immediate pop up at start up.

Trying To Delete Program Files / Access Denied

Dec 22, 2011

I've been attempting to delete files from Norton Internet Security, which has been inactive for a long time (we are not going to renew our account) and has been bugging us constantly. I assumed it would be an easy task, and I couldn't have been farther from the truth.I went into the C:Program Files (x86)Norton Internet Security where the data for the program is found, and I couldn't delete the files. A dialogue saying "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder".I thought it weird, since I am one of the computer's administrators. Next, I logged on to my dad's profile (at his insistence, though there shouldn't be any difference in the administrator powers of our profiles). The same result followed.Next, I looked online in a Google search and found this site, which told me to use the command prompt to first give me the ownership of the files, then give me complete permissions to the files, and then delete them. All three of these actions failed. The command prompt said "Access denied".

Windows 7 Cannot Delete A File?

Oct 21, 2011

I had some RAR files, which I extracted into a single 8GB 1080p movie file. Throughout the movie playback my PC lagged like it was 50 years old and the movie kept getting stuck at times. Now when I attempt to delete the movie file, it says recycling but it never goes any further on the green progress bar. I have gone into safe mode and tried deleting it, same issue, it gets stuck there. I have played other 1080p files bigger than 8GB and they have run with no issues at all, so this file is just weird and corrupted. And now it won't get deleted I tried using file shredder and THAT also got stuck and went nowhere. I tried cut/paste the file into another external HDD and that also got stuck. How the heck do I get rid of it? PC starts lagging a lot if I touch it. Will system restore remove it?I have: Windows 7 Ultimate Core2Duo 3.0ghz 4GB RAM Nvidia GTS 250

Delete Bootsqm.dat File

Jul 26, 2009

Can I put bootsqm in a folder somewhere? And 2, if anyone doesn't mind explaining, what exactly IS bootsqm?

Hey, I'm wondering if someone could tell me what bootsqm.dat is? I mean considering it has boot in the name I'm assuming it boots something, and it's coming up as clean so I really don't care, but I'm a little curious about if this is something normal. The reaon I'm wondering is because I figure if it was an adobe file or a system file, it would be in a folder wouldnt it?

It's just sitting there on my local drive (c:) without even being in a folder... Kinda bugs me. I think it may be on my xp as well... not sure.

Oh, and sorry if this is a waste of a thread, but I just want to be safe considering I'm using a beta AV right now (it's nice but idk how reliable it is, it passed my tests though), and I want to be sure I don't get an infection for another month or so when I get Eset smart security 4 (building this computer robbed me =(

EDIT: does nobody know about this? Should I just delete it to be safe?

To make this more... on topic, is it recomended to get ESET smart security 4, or wait until they come out with a Windows 7 specific AV? Because buying eset in august and then having a Windows 7 AV come out 2 months later would suck...

How To Delete An Undeletable File Folder

Aug 11, 2012

Here is some of my system information:

OS Name, Microsoft Windows & Home Premium
Version, 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer, Microsoft Corp.
System Manufacturer, HP
System Model, HP G61 Notebook PC
System Type, x64-based PC
Processor, AMD Athlon II Dual-Core M300, 2000 MHz, 2 Cores, 2 Logical Processors
BIOS Version/Date, HP F.13/25 Jan 2010
SMBIOS Version, 2,6
Hardware Abstraction Layer, Version = "6.1.7601.17514"

My computer came with Internet Explore already installed, but I use only Firefox and Safari. So, I wanted to uninstall IE. But after I did that, I was looking through my program files, and the IE file folder was still in there. So, I tried to delete it but it said I needed permission from "TrustedInstaller". So, I gave full permission to myself but it still didn't work. Then I downloaded LockHunter and it said that the file folder was unlocked but when I went to it, it said that I still didn't have permission to delete. Then I thought that if I opened the IE file folder, I could delete the stuff in it one-by-one but I only got to delete 13 out of 27 items. I closed the file folder and tried to delete all again in the hope that I deleted something that would unlock this option for the IE file folder but it didn't. I then downloaded Unlocker but when I clicked on it to start it up, it wouldn't open. Finally, I added "Take Ownership" to my Explorer right-click menu, and that worked. But now it says, "Folder In Use: The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program." So I opened Task Manager and looked but no .exe or .dll or anything else pertaining to the IE file folder was running. Sometimes when I get this message I can restart my computer and it will work but it didn't do anything this time. I'm running out of ways that I know how to fix this. I usually don't need to ask questions, especially ones so long-winded, about computers but I'm feeling kind of lost here.
