Can Only Boot To OS If The Install DVD Is In The Drive?

I instaleld Windows 7 and have an odd issue.  It will only boot to the OS if the installation DVD is in the drive. If I remove the DVD it says "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter."I have tried booting to the DVD and repairing the OS but it does not find anything wrong.I removed partitions and reformatted and reinstalled but still does the same thing.

This only happens on my PC that has 2 physical HDD. Disk0 is split into 2 partitions, Disk1 is 1 parition.I installed from the same installation disk on my laptop (1HDD w/2 partitions) and it does not have this issue.Any idea what is going on or how I can fix it?

Cannot Boot Win7 Without Install DVD Within Drive
The installation of Windows 7 (32 bit) went smoothly without any surprises but if I attempt to reboot without the install DVD within the drive I have a boot failure. I can restart my computer time and time again and it will boot as expected as long as the installation CD remains within the drive. I verified that my boot sequence is CD then Harddisk and never had this problem on XP.

Just in case, I thought I may have had a corrupted iso file, or something didn't install correctly so I've downloaded the 64bit flavor. The install again went smoothly but identical to the last time, I must keep the install dvd within the drive for a successful launch to the OS.

Can You Install 7 Upgrade From A Dvd Boot Disk?
I am trying to install windows 7 upgrade from a bootable dvd. I get the prompt to install and then it thinks for a while and comes back with the message:"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

I looked around the web and noticed this was a common issue with Vista, but I cannot seem to get it past this point. I have tried pointing it to any and all possible drivers I can think of for the IDE, SATA, motherboard, etc.

Then I decided to just try it from within windows xp, and it worked. I was able to install everything fine. So my question is if it can be installed from the disk like it appears everyone is saying, or if certain hardware requires it to be done from within windows.

I tried copying the driver folder from the system32 folder after 7 had been installed hoping the needed drivers would be in there, but when I browsed to it, it said no device drivers found.

Any suggestions around this? Is it even necessary? I am wanting a system that would be equivalent to formatting the hdd and then installing. Do I get that by installing within XP and then deleting the windows.old folder?

This is a relatively older Dell XPS 400, although everything worked fine once 7 was installed from within xp.

Unable To Boot To DVD After Initial Install
Used Window 7 Install DVD created from .iso to create initial install.  I have a SSD and was unsatisfied wtih the placing the default program file and profiles on the SSD, so I created a small Autounattend.xml file with the AIK and would like to do a fresh install using these modified settings, but now the Install DVD behaves as if unbootable.

BIOS is configured to boot from DVD drive only and that still doesn't help.  Can I use the current DVD to wipe the original install so I can start fresh?  I can burn another DVD from the .iso, but it already worked once so I don't think that is the problem. Any suggestions?

Cant Boot From Flash Or DVD Drive
So I'm trying to format my PC.

I can't boot from my USB flash drive or my DVD.

I've tried using my:

Original Installation Disc which the PC is currently running (Vista x64 OEM) Windows 7 Technet Disc Fresh Ubuntu 9.1 (for testing purposes, also failed to boot)

I've tried:
multiple discs each with a fresh download and burned .iso changing boot priority going through the Boot Menu to select the USB-FDD or CD-ROM options

But the computer boots right through each of the medias.

I can see that my USB and DVD-rom drive are both lighting up.. during before the screen launches to the big Windows Vista logo screen.

Can anybody suggest what I should do?

Install System Hangs At Press Any Key To Boot From Dvd/cd
System checked out as ok for Windows 7  and installs fine until the first reboot. Then the system hangs at that damn prompt, and before anyone asks I didn't press any button. :-). I'm using Asus M2N32-SLI deluxe mobo, 2gb ram, twin Maxtor 200gb drives in Raid 0 setup (tried those in single setup) and twin Geforce 8600gt cards in an SLI setup.

(tried those singly as well), all of which works fine for XP, but this is exactly the same problem I had trying to instal Vista, which I had to give up on. I thought it might have been Vista being a bit picky and i hoped for a solution with 7.  I assume it must be something in the bios, which is latest version, but I 'm blowed if I know what it is.

Win7 Won't Boot After Install Without DVD Using 2 HDD
So, I have an interesting problem with installing Win 7 from XP. I'm doing a full install over the old XP drive.

I have an unusual hardware configuration. I have 2 HDD's, one is SATA, and the other is on a legacy IDE. The SATA drive is a WD Raptor which I use for the OS and the IDE is a slower, larger drive I use for storing data. Additionally, the IDE drive is the Slave on the IDE chain. In XP, this worked great, because the system would boot to the SATA drive and I could use both drives.

When I went to install 7, both drives appear in the list, but their letter names were reversed: the OS drive was listed as "D" and the data drive was listed as "C". I didn't think much of it until later. I installed on "D" which was the SATA drive. After install, I noticed that my IDE drive wasn't listed in file explorer.

So I opened the Disk Manager and found that both drives were listed, but only the install disk was active. However, the IDE drive was Disk 0, and the SATA drive was Disk 1 and labeled "C:". I activated the IDE drive and it became "E:" (the DVD-ROM was already "D:"). I attempted to reboot and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing". If I put in the Win 7 install DVD it will boot to the SATA drive.

I read some of the other threads here and attempted fixes using "bootrec.exe" to no avail. I finally decided to reinstall again on the SATA drive. Again, 7 listed the SATA drive as Disk 1/"C:", and the IDE drive as Disk 0/(no letter). This time, I didn't activate the IDE drive and tried to reboot. New message "No system disk...". Put in the Win 7 DVD and it boots to the SATA drive.

My current theory is that Windows 7 is getting confused about the drive ordering when creating the boot sector on the drives. I ran out of time last night, but I thought I would unplug the IDE drive and do a fresh install on the SATA drive, then plug in the IDE drive after things were booting normally.

I did check the BIOS settings, and the SATA drive is listed first in the boot order.

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe

AMD 4200+ CPU

OCZ 4GB RAM

(IDE) Hitachi 320GB

(SATA) WD Raptor 120GB

nVidia 7600GT

Can someone offer some advice on how to solve this so I don't need the Win 7 DVD in all the time?

Invalid System Disk After Dual Boot Install For DVD
Win 7 install from DVD went OK, however on reboot it always shows 'invalid system disk" press any key. It then boot to Win 7 OK if Win 7 DVD is in a drive. My setup includes XP OS and a Vista OS.

This message comes before the boot screen. Win 7 was installed on a new parition and gave it a drive letter. Prior to Win 7 install, it booted from Vista OK. Even tried the Win 7 System Repair disc but it found nothing wrong. I hate to have to leave the disk in the drive just to boot. Any ideas?

Dual Boot Issue And XP With DVD In Drive
I installed windows 7 on my desktop where XP was already installed. Now, unless I have the RC1 DVD in the drive, the computer automatically boots to XP with no option. If I leave the DVD in the drive it gives me the ''press any key to boot from CD or DVD" then automatically goes to Windows 7 if I dont press anything. I used BCD while in 7 and it didn't seem to have an effect.

Refusing To Boot After Adding A DVD Drive
I've been running Windows 7 x64 now for a couple of weeks without issue. This afternoon I decided to install my DVD drive via an IDE to SATA adaptor, having installed the OS via a borrowed external USB one.Everything seemed to be working okay, the BIOS detected it etc. However when it came to the Windows logo it just hung there and did nothing.

I rebooted and tried again, same thing. I then removed the SATA cable going to the DVD drive and it still refused to boot. I booted in to Safe Mode and everything seemed to be fine. I couldn't see anything specific in the event logs so rebooted and it still wouldn't load.In a fit of pique I backed up what I wanted to an eSATA drive and decided to re-install. Everything seems to be working okay, including the first reboot.

However when it reloads and tries to complete the installation I end up on a black or blank screen with a flashing cursor at the top left of the screen and that's where it stays no matter how long I leave it.I removed my sound card and moved the graphics card, an Nvidia 9800 GX2, to another slot and tried the install again. Same thing.I can't think what the ____ has gone wrong here.

IIRC when I installed Vista and Win 7 before the screen flashed to that black screen briefly twice. I suspect that this is where it is detecting the graphics card. If so why is it now hanging at that point since all I did was plug in a SATA cable?I should point out that the installations I was doing were with the power turned off of course!Any suggestions at this point would be great i.e. is my mobo or gfx card broken!?

then in the hard disk option it shows the raid card as the first priorityWhen i installed windows I used the Raid drivers that i downloaded from the highpoint website for my raid card and for windows 7 64 bit. it then found both raid arrays as hard disks. I did it as a clean install and windows created 2 partitions on the OS hard disk one as the main drive and a seperate 100mbs as some kind system diskWindows works perfectly if i leave the DVD in.

HP 64 Won't Boot Unless Dvd In In Drive
I am having a problem after installing Win 7 HP 64 bit. The installation completes, but when I reboot with out the install dvd in the drive, it says boot disk failure insert system disk and press enter. I am upgrading from Win XP Pro 32bit.

Prior to installing the retail version, I was dual booting XP pro and Win 7 RC on two hdd's. I formatted the Win 7 drive in XP, then did a clean install of Win 7, formatting the drive with the installer. Any ideas as what I need to do? Like I said, my problem is that Win 7 won't boot unless the install dvd is in the drive.

Can't Boot Win 7 Without DVD In Drive
Is there a hotfix for this?  It's related to this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/64f729b6-d796-4030-82d9-3fe5a44b0180If you go to www.google.com and search using the phrase "Windows 7 won't boot without dvd" you'll see that others have this problem too.I have 2 Raptor hard drives in a RAID-0 array.

I have a third internal 1.5 terabyte hard drive. The 1.5 terabyte (C:) HD is for my Win7 OS & my programs. The RAID-0 array (D:) is for my games. (RAID-0 is for fast loading performance)I think it recognized one of the RAID-0 drives as the "first hard drive attached to my motherboard" and somehow Windows 7 put the boot loader info on that hard drive, instead of my 1.5 terabyte C: drive with Windows 7.

As a result, Windows 7 won't boot unless I have the DVD in the drive. I tried the option to boot from the DVD, repair my computer, and from the command prompt do a "bootrec /rebuildbcd" but that failed.

So the only fix I see is to PHYSICALLY disconnect the 2 RAID-0 drives, and then do a full install of Windows 7 again. What a royal pain-in-the-____.  My motherboard is an ASUS P6T. Any hotfix in the works?

Won't Boot Without DVD In Drive
Installed Win 7 RC 64bit as a stand alone OS on my machine. When booting, if the DVD is inserted, it will give me the "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" message, if I wait until that message expires, then the OS boots fine.

If I remove the DVD, then the system does not see either drive as bootable. Drives are: C:  (A0) Intel 64GB X25-E SSD  (OS installed here) D:  (B0) Maxtor 1TB drive E:  (B1) Pioneer CD/DVD burner Motherboard is EVGA nForce 750i SLI Probably doesn't matter, but just in case:

CPU: Q8400 RAM: 8GB Corsair 800 GPU: [2] GTX260 PSU: Cooler Master 1000W I've tried Installing multiple times now, with both drives installed, and also with removing the magnetic drive and installing with only the SSD & DVD in the system. The problem still persists through each installation. I've also tried changing the SATA mode in the BIOS. Any suggestions ?

Win 7 Installs But Will Not Boot Without DVD In Drive
I have installed a new installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my computer. The installation went without any issues and works perfectly - that is until I remove the installation DVD from the drive - the computer will then not load - it just sits there at a blank screen.

I have 3 SATA hard drives installed in my computer - 2 are blank, 1 has music on it but no program files In the installation options - I have deleted all partitions on the 2 empty drives and recreated 2 partitions - Windows then creates a hidden system partition.I have run the Windows 7 repair facility numerous times but to no avail .

Install Without DVD Drive / Installation
I have a Dell laptop that I tried to install Win7 beta on, but the problem is the POS DVD drive has issues reading media. This laptop has multiple partitions with multiple OS installed. I was originally planning on wiping out the XP Pro and using that space for Win 7.

So, could I essentially delete the data, create 2 partitions. One of which I could move all the files from the DVD to, the other for installation. So, the question of course is this. If I run the install from partition 2 in XP, will this work? If not, how could I setup Win 7 on this machine with a bad DVD drive?

Vista/Win7wont Boot Win7 Without DVD In Drive
I have a HP desktop that came with Vista, I partitioned my C drive (which already had a small partition from HP for the recovery stuff labeled D and made a "S" drive for the Windows 7 install.

I installed the copy of Windows 7 i made from the official ISO from MS and it works ok as long as the DVD is still in the drive...it asks to press any key to boot from cd or DVD, I leave it alone then my option screen comes up and I can pick from either vista or Windows 7 just fine. If the DVD is NOT in the drive then the options I have are either vista or "Windows Setup" and in that case I get

File: $WINDOWS..~BTWindowsSystem32winload.exe

Status: 0xc000000f

selected entry couuld not be loaded cuz missing or corrupt

I tried to do the automatic reapair in the Windows 7 installer and sometimes it would come up as finding an error and says it fixed but most of the time it says there is nothing wrong.

CD/DVD Drive Not Detected After Win 7 Install
Soon after installing Windows 7 RC I realized that my CD/DVDs were no longer reading. I went to "my computer" and it was no longer listed. I can't get anything to fix it. I tried device manger with detecting new devices and it found my drive but gave me this message-

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Device manager also told me that I have the best and latest drivers installer, which kind of contradicts it telling me that it's missing or corrupted. My CD drive works perfectly in Ubuntu (no surprise.) It also worked in Vista so this is clearly a windows7 issue, right? How do I fix it?

Pioneer DVR-215 DVD Drive Not Useable On New W7 Install
Hoping someone can help here.... running Beta 7000 on a Quadcore Q9450 with 4GB of RAM. The DVD drive is a Pioneer DVR-215 but Windows 7 will not show it in Explorer and I can't access it at all. Device manager shows the yellow warning and says this:

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

I've tried uninstalling the driver and letting Windows 7 reinstall it but it always installs the same one and says it's running the correct driver – yet it still won't let me use the drive.... anyone got any idea what I need to do to fix this?

I've search for this but not seen anyone with this exact problem (i.e: where Windows 7 reinstalls the same driver but still won't allow use of the device.)

Boot Only With Install CD In Drive
I just installed Windows 7 RC on a Acer Aspire One netbook from a USB DVD-ROM. The installation completes and everything works fine. When I remove the UDB DVD drive Windows 7 does not boot. All that appears is a message "Operating System not found" before any windows messages appear. So I tried to change the boot order in the BIOS, eventually only leaving the HDD, but still the same. If I plug the UDB DVD drive back in, I get a message if I want to boot from DVD (press a key...) and when I let that continue without pressing a key Windows 7 boots up fine.

I unplugged all other USB devices (I had a Razer mouse and a keyboard plugged in via a USB hub), problems persist.I reinstalled after deleting all partitions and reformatting. Still the same problem. So I looked into the disk manager and I have one 10MB partition created by windows installer and a ~140GB windows partition.

I booted into the recovery mode and ran the startup recovery. "windows could not find any problems". But still no boot.So I did the steps described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/ /fixmbr, fixboot, including the bcdedit /rebuild, and still the same error.I think that when the BIOS boots it may have a problem with finding the OS - that's what the error message seems to indicate. How do you find out what the BIOS or the boot manager sees, so I can fix?

Cannot Boot From Drive With Win 7 Install
I recently bought a new hard drive to install windows 7 (C:), I previously had Vista64 installed on another hard drive (D:). Currently when I start up with the D: it will bring me to a boot screen with a choice of OS to use. I had installed windows 7 on the drive with the intention of formatting the Vista64 drive to use it as a storage drive.

It was recently brought to my attention that windows 7 installs the boot file on the first hard drive listed in the bios, in my case the D: I tried booting from the C: with the windows 7 install, and it does not boot.

I have tried booting the windows 7 disc and running the system tools, using the cmd prompt to run: bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /rebuildbcd The first command works, but the second and third commands give me a message of "element not found" when I hit enter.

I also tried running the auto boot fix from the system tools, everything I have tried still doesn't allow me to boot from my C: I was hoping someone could help me solve this problem.
