Can't Delete Program Files (x86) Folder
I deleted the windows.old folder but cannot delete program files (x86) folder after installing build 7068 x86 over build 7057 x64. Can someone help me please?

I have Windows 7 Home basic 64 Bit OS.I have lots of applications installed, out of which every applications folders are stored on both Program files and Program files (X86) Folder.I am not going to use 32 bit OS in future.So can I delete folders from Program files (x86) Folder directly ? (Its shows in Add/Remove Programs too..)(Because It shows in All Programs menu @ start up and it consuming space on Hard disk and All programs )

Program Files X86 Folder
I've noticed that I have two program files. One just states Program Files and the other Program Files (X86). I believe that the one with (x86) pertains to the Win7 64 Bit however, is the other program file necessary? Since I have Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit don't you think that all files and folders should go to it?

i was recently running windows 7 64 bit on my computer and just decided to switch to 32 bit 7. however i still have 2 program files. when i try to delete program files (x86) it tells me i need trusted installer permission. anyone have any ideas how i can delete the other program files?

Program Files (x86) Folder Is Corrupt And Unreadable
I have a dual boot machine, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Kubuntu 9.10. Everybody was getting along just fine. Today I booted from Windows, no problem; booted Kubuntu, no problem; then later rebooted to Windows. I now get a message that my Program Files (x86) folder is corrupt and unreadable. [While in Kubuntu I did nothing other than look at the list of files using Kubuntu. No file was opened or modified.] - I tried dropping to a command prompt to run chkdsk (as recommended by the error screen) but cmd is corrupted - So I booted off the Windows 7 disk and was able to run chkdsk - no problems found (with the /f and later the /r switches) When Windows 7 opens, all my 32-bit programs are unusable, and I can't explore the Program Files (x86) folder. Properties lists it as 0 bytes. However, when I browse the folder from a Kubuntu boot, everything seems normal and is accessible. I (gently) used some Kubuntu ntfs tools (such as ntfsfix to flag the volume as dirty so Windows would check/repair the volume on boot) but got nowhere. [I have no idea if this is useful, but I included the ntfsinfo output from both my Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders.]

I'm new to the forum, just signed up.I have a few questions about installing software on 64-bit.I am running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and noticed some thing.Some of the software are installed in the program file (x86) folder, some of them in the program files folder by default.I made sure that i found and install 64-bit compliant software. 1. Why are 64-bit apps being installed in the (x86) program files folder when they are in fact 32/64-bit versions? 2. When i get prompted to choose the destination folder, can i manually select the program files folder and will it change or compromise windows?

Can't Copy Files From (x86) Folder
Im using Windows 7 64 ultimate . A program I use installed in tne (x86) folder runs OK and I can save and delete files from within the program but I cannot see these files from Windows Explorer to make a backup . The files display the infamous yellow lock icon (from within the x86 program) and I cant change this no matter how far I go into the owner/permissions rigmarole .

I have a program installed under "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWName". When the program runs it's supposed to copy some files, say FROM "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.abc TO "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.xyz The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens. It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameNewName". why this particular Windows 7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?

Why Can't Delete Game Files From Program Files X 86
I have 64 bit windows 7. I deleted dungeon siege 2 using the control panel, remove program. It was removed except for one file in Program files x86/microsoftgames/dungeonSiege2. I tried manually deleting it but get this "the action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program. Close folder or file or retry" There is nothing open. I clicked properties of the file and security and clicked administrator and get the same message. Never had this problem removing remnants of programs in xp.

Running Windows 7 Pro, 64bit.We have a package of scripts and programs that comprise a custom application for OpenOffice 3.2 (do not want to upgrade OO at this point). We must support our package on Win XP, Vista and 7.A bunch of our scripts start up OpenOffice by running the command: C:Program FilesOpenOffice.org 3programsoffice.exe (with arguments).Works fine on XP. Fails on Windows 7 because the OO program installs itself into Program Files (x86). Even if I change properties of the installer file, in the Compatibility tab, to Win XP SP3, AND tell the installer to put it in C:Program Files, Windows 7 still installs it into Program Files (x86). We would LIKE to have the same script work on both flavors of Windows. I know we can modify our scripts to branch on which Windows, and choose two different paths to soffice.exe, but that's messy.I can't solve it by creating a shortcut in Program Files, to the program in Program Files (x86); that's not allowed.Is there some solution in Windows 7 to find the program no matter which place it lives? OK, I was installing some x64 plugs yesterday and the default installer wasn't pointing to the right folder so i manually typed the correct pathc:Program filesSteinbergVST pluginsAll seemed to go well until I looked at my C drive, I now have two identical folders saying Program files.c:Program filesc:Program filesc:Program files (x86)I've changed permissions and taken full control and tried to delete the new one but it i get an error message saying the folder isn't empty.I've tried everything I can think of including safe mode etc but can't for the life of me delete this double folder.If I use the CMD line then it lists both folders with exactly the same name so I've no idea which one is the bogus one to try and delete from there.I tried system restore and still the two folders came back again!!The bogus folder is showing 0 file size and if I open it and try and open a folder inside i get an error message saying the file isn't in that location but I cant get rig of the bloody thin

I am about to install Windows 7 (64bit) on my new 60GB SSD drive. I will keep a separate 1TB drive for all music, etc. and I intend to install most applications on the 1TB drive as well.However, since 64-bit windows by default has both a "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" folder for 32-bit apps I wonder if I could get in trouble by not installing 32-bit apps in the x86 folder?

I have recently installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS. I have noticed it created two folders one "program files" and one "program files (x86). From what I have read so far the x86 folder is for 32 bit apps and the other for 64 bit apps. My question is: I only want my OS and any critical apps on my SSD C drive so I created an E drive that I put all other apps on. On the E drive I have created only one folder "program files" and have been putting all other apps in it. Everything appears to be working OK but should I have also created a folder x86 on the E drive and install all 32 bit apps in it or does the OS just know what to do regardless of the folder it is in?

Why do some programs which I download try to install to Program Files as is the norm, and others try to install to Program Files (x86), if they're all compatible with Win7 x64, and some are even specific to Win7 x64?Is there any harm in deleting the (x86) from the attempted destination folder when I download, so that I don't have two folders for my downloaded programs?

I have a acer aspire 7750G-6634 laptop, 8gb of ram, 2 HDs, i5, windows 7 home (the one that came with the laptop)?Camtasia created a 50+ gb file on my D drive, I struggled to get the file to work but it seems like it was corrupted (couldn't use it) so I deleted it. Since then I started seeing the green ribbon of death when I was browsing folders on my D. It was always getting worse and worse, until one day I couldn't move/copy/delete any files that was on my D. The installer does lead me to another place to download it, but they say for it to work it must be downloaded into program files (x86). Downloads Going To Old Programs Files X86 Folder
I upgraded to 64 bit from a 32 bit machine months ago. Even though I have Tools/Options set to have downloads go directly to Program Files, I've discovered that my downloads are going to the old Program Files (x86) folder, e.g., I just download Secunia PSI and when opened in Program Files, the old version was there but the new version 3.0 is in PF (x86). I tried to cut and paste it to PF but it didn't work. I have a download Firefox extension, Download Status Bar, that I really like; it works great.I know that some programs in 64 bit need the old 32 bit version trom PF (x86) to work but I'd like to delete PF (x86).

Deleting Folders - Windows Program Files (x86)?
I have an old 7 installation that I'm having difficulties exterminating. I want to delete: Windows, Program Files, Program Files (x86). I am aware this is not advisable etc etc, but that advice is inapplicable here because the installation is now on a data disk. I've tried some command line stuff with "takeown" and tried giving full permissions, but it is remarkably stubborn. Everything I did partially worked, but ultimately failed to get the job done.
