Bluetooth In A Win 7 Multi-boot Environment

I have a multi-boot environment with a bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth mouse.Windows 7 does not allow you to pair the keyboard and the mouse in multiple environments with the same pairing code.I used to be able to do this with Windows XP and Windows Vista. The only solution that I can identify is to either:Re-pair the mouse and keyboard every time you change your bootup session choice. or Use multiple keyboards and mice... one keyboard and mouse for each boot environment...

seperately paired. You used to be able to disable the pairing code requirement for a deviceor Manually specify the pairing code used on both sides of the pairingYou cannot do this in Windows 7... or if you can I have not found out how to do it.Do you know of a way to use a single bluetooth keyboard and mouse in a multi-boot environment? orDo you know when Microsoft will correct their bluetooth drivers to allow this (like they used to)?

Logically Insists It Is On The C Drive In Triple Boot Environment
Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) was installed on Disk 0 Partition 2 and became the E Drive. The set up looked like this from either operating system (i did not manually allocate any drive letters).

Disk 0 Part 1 C Drive (Windows XP) (Primary Partition)

Disk 0 Part 2 E Drive (Windows Vista) (Logical Partition)

Disk 0 Part 3 F Drive (Spare) (Logical Partition)

Disk 1 Part 1 D Drive (Spare) (Primary Partition)

Disk 1 Part 2 G Drive (Spare) (Primary Partition)

Disk 1 Part 3 H Drive (Acronis Secure Zone) (Primary Partition)

I have tried to install Windows 7 (64 bit) to both Disk 1 Part 1 and Disk 1 Part 2. In each case it has installed successfully on the specified partition. When I boot into Windows 7 it appears as Drive C. It works quite happily like this. If I boot into XP or Vista the Drive layout remains as above with the Windows 7 files appearing in either Drive D or Drive G depending on where I installed it to. When I boot into Windows 7 the Drive layout appears as below:

Windows 7 installed to Disk 1 Part 1:

Disk 0 Part 1 not allocated a letter (Windows XP)

Disk 0 Part 2 D Drive (Windows Vista)

Disk 0 Part 3 E Drive (Spare)

Disk 1 Part 1 C Drive (Windows 7)

Disk 1 Part 2 F Drive (Spare)

Disk 1 Part 3 G Drive (Acronis Secure Zone)

Windows 7 installed to Disk 1 Part 2:

Disk 0 Part 1 not allocated a letter (Windows XP)

Disk 0 Part 2 D Drive (Windows Vista)

Disk 0 Part 3 E Drive (Spare)

Disk 1 Part 1 F Drive (Spare 7)

Disk 1 Part 2 C Drive (Windows 7)

Disk 1 Part 3 G Drive (Acronis Secure Zone)

(The drive letters may have been 'E' - D0 P2, 'F' - D0 P3 and 'D' - D1 P1 but I forgot to write them down and can't stand the thought of reinstalling Windows 7 yet again)

In each case Windows 7 has decided that it is logically on Drive C, the Windows XP partition is ignored and all other drive letters are then assigned in ascending sequence. As it has decided that it is on Drive C and the registry entries reflect the same it works quite normally.

From within Windows 7, the Windows XP partition can be allocated a Drive letter in the 'Disc Management (Local)' window and can the be accessed quite normally.

I could probably get around this by taking disc images of the XP and Vista installations, play around with various combinations until I get it to install as Drive D and then restore the previous images. However, thats a lot of time so I'll keep it as it is for the time being.

Anybody got any other ideas?

Dual Boot Win Vista And Win7 Bluetooth Problem
when I go from one OS to the other I loose my Microsoft Elite bluetooth keyboard. The mouse always works but not the keyboard. Its there in the bluetooth devices, the drivers and software but can't be used. I can set it up after the 2nd or 3rd attempt but its a real problem if you want to dual boot. when I did it with win xp and vista i could use my own key and set them up the same in both OS's but win 7 dosn't give me that option, it just wants you to use its own code to setup bluetooth keyboards.

Cannot Boot Win7RC In Multi Boot System
I had a dual boot system with XP Pro and Vista Ultimate 32bit everything was great.I decided to try the Win7 RC but I needed a new drive due to lack of space. My original drive is IDE, I bought a SATA drive and moved the OS's to the new drive.I wanted to keep the old drive in system for storage so I formatted it and changed BIOS boot priority. After fixing some minor issues with drive letter assignments due to the fact the bios reads the first and second IDE channels first then SATA.

I was all ready to install Win7 RC on an unallocated 100gb section of my new drive.Note: that the old drive has a single partition formatted NTFS but is currently blank. And I did follow the "Golden Rule" of installing the oldest OS first when I set up the computer in the first place. The Install went fine. Now for the problem.Win7 did not add an entry into Vista's boot manager so no option to boot into Win7 without the install disk in the drive.

I used EasyBCD 1.7.2 from within Vista to add an entry for Win7. But when initially added easyBCD assigns the drive partition a drive letter that I don't have. Therefore the entry does not show up on reboot. I changed the path to the correct drive and then the entry does show up on reboot. But when I select Win7 the boot manager refuses to load Win7 saying that "cannot verify the digital signature of the file winload.exe"I have tried wiping and re-installing the Win7 partition 3 times I've tried using the Win7 install disk to repair startup problems.

None of these has worked I'm at a loss as to what is happening. If Win7 created a hidden partition for recovery and boot files I'm unable to find it, I thought of trying and Linux Live CD to look for the hidden partition but have not done it yet. My thought was to delete this hidden partition and wipe the Win7 partition and format it before re-installing either from within Vista or during the Win7 install process via a command prompt in an attempt to keep Win7 from creating this hidden partition.

The problem is that I don't believe this will solve the problem due to the digital signature error reported by Vista's boot manager. Can anybody help me with this or at least bring a perspective that I may be over-looking?

Unexpected Error On Multi-boot System
I'm attempting to do an upgrade/update install of Windows 7 Professional over Vista Business. Everything checks out with the update advisor, the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs have been turned off (I have, however, left the Windows home-grown firewall on), but shortly after the temporary files have been copied and the setup begins, I received a dialog box saying that an unexpected error has occurred and that I should retry the installation.

My system is multi-boot with the first partition for Windows XP Professional, the second with Vista Business, and the third and fourth with OpenSuse Linux. I'm trying to upgrade/update the Vista partition. SP1 has been installed for Vista, and all of the updates contained in SP2 have also been installed.

Multi Boot Default (XP, Vista, 7, Ubuntu)
I was originally running just XP Pro (and still use as my main OS) on C:. Installed Vista (didn't activate it yet and it's past 30 days) on Drive G:. Installed Ubuntu on D:. Installed Windows 7 RC1 son S: (in that order). When I start my computer, Windows 7 is the Default OS. I can't change the default OS to XP in Windows 7 (it only gives me the option for Vista).

When I start in XP it shows Windows 7 (7 and xp only options) as default and when I try to select XP as default it jumps right back to 7. I'm thinking I may have to activate my Vista and do it through Vista. [all OS run perfectly no issues at all] Thoughts? Ideas?

One-click Minimize / Restore Missing For Multi-window Or Multi-tab Programs
The new taskbar is fabulous, but it has lost one really valuable feature: the ability to minimise and restore multi-tab programs like IE8 with one click on the taskbar icon.

Restoring from the taskbar
----------------------------
Programs with one window work perfectly.  Click the taskbar icon, and the program minimises/restores perfectly well.  But programs with multiple windows or tabs - such as IE8 - force you to use the Preview feature, and then select a window/tab to open.

The preview feature is wonderful, but it shouldn't be FORCED upon you.  If you just want to restore IE8 back to as it was before you minimised it, you should be able to just click on the icon.

Minimising to the taskbar
---------------------------
I can no longer minimise a multi-window/tab program (such as IE8 again) by clicking on its taskbar icon.  This is often much more convenient than navigating to the little minimise button in IE8's title bar.

In fact, when IE8 is open, clicking on its icon in the taskbar has exactly the same effect as hovering over it.  So really its behaviour is inconsistent and puzzling.  (IE8 is just my example; all multi-window/tab programs suffer this).

Summary
----------
The new taskbar is fabulous, but it really does need these two little glitches sorting out.  For multi-window/tab programs, if the user chooses not to use the Preview feature, then simply clicking on the taskbar icon should do the minimise/restore action, just as it does for single window/tab programs, and just as it did in Vista, XP, et al.

How To Create A USB Multi Boot Repair Disc ?
Is there a way (or tutorial) to create a repair disc for a multi boot Windows 7/Vista on a USB flash drive? In other words would like to be able to use a USB flash drive in an emergency to boot into a multi boot computer using Windows 7/Vista.

I see where there is a way to create a Vista/XP multi boot USB repair disc but not one for Windows 7/Vista multi boot. Evidently the boot files for Vista/XP are different from the boot files for Windows 7/Vista. I have a 4GB flash drive that I would like to use.

Wrong Drive Letters In Multi Boot XP,Vista, Win7
FIX (with SavePart, tried other partition utilities and editing MountedDevices to no avail)

Hope this helps someone else with Wrong Drive Letter Problems

Installed Windows 7 RC and all was well with XP Dual Boot.

After some experimenting(BSD,LINUX,etc), Windows 7 would not boot, so popped in the DVD and let Windows 7 repair the boot.

Windows 7 now booted, but when booting XP on E: , it was now assigned the wrong Drive letter D: and would boot to just before the Logon Prompt and hang(same in safe mode.)

After much research and trial (including editing the HKLM/SYSTEM/MountedDevices hive of the XP install from within Windows 7 to change the drive letter) this was the fix.

This particular XP boots from Partition/Drive E: in Windows.0 directory (yeah, i know, been this way for years)

FIX: (FREE!)

downloaded SavePart "AKA Partition Saving " Partition Saving

Boot from a FreeDOS Floppy or USB stick and run SavePart.exe

within SavePart (navigate with TAB key, Selected items turn BLACK)

Choose:

Update Windows 2000/XP/Vista Registry

then
Choose element where boot configuration are stored (Disk number 0, in this case)

then
Choose element where boot configuration DATA are stored (Partition) where the XP(2000 or Vista) is located

then
Select the Directory where the XP (2000 or Vista) is located (Windows.0 on D Drive, in this case)

You then have access/ability to the change Drive Letters for that particular Windows Installation:

In this case:

Drive D (which needed to be E) and Drive E(which needed to be D)

Running A 4/6 Screen Environment
Basically my question is, what's the best way of running a 4/6 screen windows 7 environment?

The detailed question is:-

I've just got a Dell XPS 8000 with a Nvidia GT 220 in it.

I'd like to run at least 4 19 inch screens. On my previous system (XP Pro 64 bit) I added a second PCI graphics card, which allowed me to run the 4 screens.

It's not for gaming, it's for developing, so I just need a lot of desktop real estate, more than 3D rendering power.

(Btw, I went for win 7 pro, due to the XP Pro Virtual machine, allowing me to run the 32bit cisco VPN client I need, in a 64 bit environment).

I installed the old PCI card I had a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, but this seems to cause an issue with the GT220 card and the device manager reports it's stopped working (error code 43. I've googled it, seems a pretty generic error code, from what I can tell I think it's installing xddm drivers, which is the problem with wddm driver needed). I remove the card it BSOD's windows is unable to repair it, and I have to go back to a system restore point.

I see I have 2 spare PCIe x1 slots and a PCI slot on my motherboard.

Any suggestions?

Ideas I've toyed with are

1. Buy a PCIe x1 graphics card, possibly a quad card(but which one, nvidia or non nvidia)

2. Buy another PCI Graphics card, possibly a quad card( again which one? )

3. Can I spilt the HDMI and DVI outputs to give me 4 screens of 1280x1024. (or even 3 screens)

4. Scrap the GT 220, buy a PCI x16 card, then get another dual PCIe x1 card.(going to be very expensive I think).

Multi Language Support In Win 7
I'm planning to buy a new PC with Windows 7 (English) and not sure what version I should buy. I need to be able to switch into Japanese language mode for writing Word documents and composing/reading email sometimes. I do not need the desktop, menus etc. to be displayed in Japanese, however. I've found some info on the Internet and MS web site but still confused:

1) I have read that LIPs can be installed on any version of Win 7 but looks like Japanese must be installed as a full install (no parent language). If this is the case, can I setup 2 user accounts and configure one for English and the other for Japanese?

2) Do I need to have Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise edition to do what I want to do?

Win 7 Multi Monitor Problem
As a partner, I installed 7Ultimate on my personal machine.  I have a problem and I'm puzzled by the lack of any forum corresponding to 7 on the community website.  These responses from Microsoft engineers have been very valuable in the past.

If there is an appropriate forum, please route this question to it.

I have four monitors installed in a 1,2 top and 3,4 bottom configuration. Monitor 1 is the primary and had the master toolbar at one time, (quicklaunch etc).  It is still primary but the master toolbar has moved to monitor three which is left bottom and is not primary.  Why did this happen and what can I do to fix it?

Bluetooth Headphones Under Win 7
I'm considering the purchase of a Windows 7 Laptop to use for studying  while away from home. I would like to know whether or not it is possible to redirect the sound output through Bluetooth Headphones. Although the laptop has a headphone jack, I would prefer to have cordless headphones.

Additionally, do Bluetooth Headphones all use the same drivers, or does each make/model require it's own specific driver? Could anyone recommend me some Windows 7 Compatible Headphones?

Bluetooth Works, But Not Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000
Thinkpad X200s (most recent model) RC x64 installed. The Microsoft BT Mouse 5000 connects but does not move. It previously worked under Vista. My Blackberry 8330 does connect and work via Bluetooth (but there are two Bluetooth Peripheral Devices under other devices that are not found).

In device manager under Bluetooth radio is two drivers:

1. Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
2. Thinkpad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate

When I move the mouse, the Bluetooth Icon and bubble comes active "A Bluetooth Device is trying to connect" and asks me for the connection code (there is none and it was already connected) -- since there is no code I try to pass it up but it wants a code.

At any rate, I'm not certain why the Bluetooth Mouse does not move.

Any ideas?

Also, what can I do about the two Bluetooth Peripheral device drivers that are not found? The same thing happened under Vista and did not seem to affect anything.

Boot From Win 7 Option Gone From Boot Menu After Re-installing XP Professional

However since I've "re-installed Windows XP" I can no longer access Windows 7, as it is no longer on my boot menu. Basically I need to know is there a way to get Windows 7 back in my boot menu so I can access it again without having to re-installing Windows 7 hopefully.

Win 7 Cannot Boot - Must Use External Boot Device Like A Bootable CD
I have the problem just mentioned in Windows 7 doesn't boot but unfortunately I cannot delete my partitions. I have a SATA 250HDD and I had an upgraded windows 7 from windows vista which I deleted after some problems with it. I then had problems reinstalling windows 7 from USB which at last was because the installation disk I used for the USB was corrupted. I found some article

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproinstall/thread/2c0b8808-9c13-42de-ac7c-3641a37b1991?prof=required

which helped me to make the boot from the HDD using bootrec /fixBoot but strangely enough when the boot starts a check disk appears scanning C that fixes something in the MFT bitmap then after that windows won't boot any more. When I ignore scan the windows boots normally but when trying to copy anything to drive C it says that it is corrupted ?

I have a bootable disk that had grub4dos installed and have an option to boot into bootmgr for windows which I used to boot into windows. It works for me that way but I cannot keep like that so would anyone HELP please ?

Cannot Boot Win 7 RC From Vista Boot Manager
I had a dual boot system with XP Pro and Vista Ultimate 32bit everything was great.

I decided to try the Windows 7 RC but I needed a new drive due to lack of space.

My original drive is IDE, I bought a SATA drive and moved the OS's to the new drive.

I wanted to keep the old drive in system for storage so I formatted it and changed BIOS boot priority.

After fixing some minor issues with drive letter assignments due to the fact the bios reads the first and second IDE channels first then SATA.

I was all ready to install Windows 7 RC on an unallocated 100gb section of my new drive.

Note: that the old drive has a single partition formatted NTFS but is currently blank.

And I did follow the "Golden Rule" of installing the oldest OS first when I set up the computer in the first place.

The Install went fine.

Now for the problem.

Windows 7 did not add an entry into Vista's boot manager so no option to boot into Windows 7 without the install disk in the drive.

I used EasyBCD 1.7.2 from within Vista to add an entry for Windows 7. But when initially added easyBCD assigns the drive partition a drive letter that I don't have.

Therefore the entry does not show up on reboot. I changed the path to the correct drive and then the entry does show up on reboot.

But when I select Windows 7 the boot manager refuses to load Windows 7 saying that "cannot verify the digital signature of the file winload.exe"

I have tried wiping and re-installing the Windows 7 partition 3 times I've tried using the Windows 7 install disk to repair startup problems.

None of these has worked I'm at a loss as to what is happening.

If Windows 7 created a hidden partition for recovery and boot files I'm unable to find it, I thought of trying and Linux Live CD to look for the hidden partition but have not done it yet. My thought was to delete this hidden partition and wipe the Windows 7 partition and format it before re-installing either from within Vista or during the Windows 7 install process via a command prompt in an attempt to keep Windows 7 from creating this hidden partition. The problem is that I don't believe this will solve the problem due to the digital signature error reported by Vista's boot manager.

Can anybody help me with this or at least bring a perspective that I may be over-looking?

Win 7 Ultimate And Win XP Pro Dual Boot Error
I have Windows 7 Ultimate OEM installed on my Seagate 160GB hard drive. I want to install my Windows XP Pro operating system. (DUAL BOOT of Course)

I followed your instructions to the letter. Once all the files have been copied and it reboots before the installation starts, I get an Error saying to click CTRL ALT and Delete to reboot. I can't get past that point to install Win XP Pro. The only option is to click onto any key to boot to the CD/DVD. I have my cmos set to boot from the CD/DVD.

It won't start the extraction and installation sequence to get Windows XP Installed. I have to do a recovery to get back into Win 7 afterwards and set everything back to the settings before I tried to get Win XP to boot by making a dual partition in Win 7 and install on its own partition.

This is ODD. I even used a brand new Win XP Pro OEM operating disk and two other Win XP operating disks, so I know it's isn't the software.

Are you sure you haven't left out something in your instructions I would need to know to get past this error issue to continue the Win XP Pro operating system install?
