Blue Screen, Frequent Crashes

The crashes started almost immeditately after I got this computer, in January 2009. They have steadily got worse, until the last few weeks it has been several times a day. My dad is into computers, and has worked with me the last few weeks, even taking it to his house for a day or so. We thought a clogged heatsink might have been the problem, but I don;t think it is.

5-6 errors usually follow within a couple minutes, they are:

Event Log Event ID 1000--Previous shutdown was unexpected.

Critical Error: Kernel-Power--41--The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.

Atikmdag--52236---CPLIB--General--Invalid Parameter

Atikmdag--43029--Display not active

Service Control Manager--7009--A timeout was reached (30000 miliseconds) while waiting for lxdnCATScustConnectService service to connect

Service Control Manager--7000--The lxdnCATScustConnectService failed to start due to the floowing error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

This is the order the errors come in. We have ran diagnostics, dad has checked hardware, I am completely loss on this. Kernel-Power is the only critical error I get.

Frequent Crashes / Blue Screen Errors
I have been using Windows 7 for the past 10 days. As a part of the testing, i have installed multiple softwares in the system. Most of them are Microsoft recommended. None of them are heavy one's. But off late i have been seeing that windows crashes every few minutes. Every time its some blue screen error message.

The first few days, it was very stable, but now, these frequent crashes are very annoying. I hope there is some solution.

**  My windows is completely updated. The AVG antivirus running is also updated.

Frequent Crashes, BSoD
I recently built a pc for my nephew but had to leave installing windows to him because of a hardware issue (video card was doa, had to ship it back to newegg). Well, we've had problems with it since installing and have even gotten a couple blue screens in the process (error codes below).

The first couple of times he tried to install it he had issues where it would freeze mid install (he eventually got through the install by switching to a ps/2 mouse and keyboard instead of usb, for whatever reason this worked). After installing though he said he has had problems with seemingly random crashes. I had him make sure all drivers were installed, but I suspect we are still having some sort of hardware issue (possibly the mobo?). Can anyone help with the blue screen error reports below:

Win 7 X64 Frequent Crashes / Reboots
I recently built a new PC and installed Win 7 Ultimate RC on it.  It constantly crashes/reboots itself when using the Windows UI.  It seems to be fine in Safe Mode.  When I say using the Windows UI I mean using a browser (tried IE and Chrome) as well as just browsing through control panel or typing a search into a browser search box.

Frequently the display driver crashes or the UI gets slight distorted again like the display driver is having issues.  I tried to stress test it by running Fallout 3 for an hour and had no problems.

Crashes With Blue Screen Of Death
I'm using an HP Pavilion DV7 Entertainment notebook. I've installed 7 Beta and had NO issues. I installed 7RC and it crashes daily. I have the .dmp files for analysis. HP has nothing to do with 7 yet because its not a GA release. How can I go about diagnosing where the problem is so that i can see if it can even be fixed?

I've looked in the event logs, temp folder under my user name, .dmp file, looked at installed apps, the antivirus (Kaspersky), +++. I use predominantly MS apps. there are a few non native Microsoft apps such as Nero 9, Kaspersky, Blackberry Desktop, etc. any suggestions?

Win 7 RC 64 Bit Installation Crashes With Blue Screen
i tried to install the Windows 7 RC 64 Bit installation on my system.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ 2,3 GHz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
ASRock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 R3.0 MBoard.
250GB Sata HardDisk

I have at first installed Windows XP on one partition and then i tried to install Windows 7 on another partition.

Every time i tried to install Windows 7 the installation wants to complete the installation.
The system wants to start but then the system restarts with a bluescreen.

I cant say whats on the display during the bluescreen because the system restarts too fast.

The Windows 7 RC 32 Bit installation completed without a problem.

Has someone an idea?

The ATI drivers for WINDOWS 7 (Engineering sample WDDM v1.1) version 8.560 1.0 crash on a daily basis on a couple of machines, one running a 9550 quad core processor and one running the i940.

Generally the screen will flicker, sometimes windows recovers, oven it shuts down.

The error message is: Description:

A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
OS Version: 6.1.7000.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

I know of no newer drivers from ATI.

IS NVIDIA having similar problems are are the video hardware driver issues peculiar to ATI?

Frequent Blue Screens
My computer worked fine at 6 this morning, then I shut it down and turned it back on a few hours later and it ran disk check (I assume it actually crashed while shutting down the first time, I didn't watch it). After the disk check it started fine, then I opened Firefox and I got a blank blue screen and it restarted. This time I ran the start up tools, and it crashed again during those.

I booted into XP for a bit, then decided to try again, skipped the start up tools, and it worked fine for a while before crashing again. I rebooted, started it normally, then copied some files to an external hard drive (figured if I wanted to get anything done I'd need to use XP as it doesn't seem to be having problems), and when I unplugged the drive it happened again.

I haven't changed anything since it was working fine, all I did during the last working boot was a little programming and web surfing, I haven't changed anything, no new hardware/software, etc. so I have no idea what's causing it.

Using a Toshiba Satellite L35-S2161, 2 GB RAM, Intel Celeron M CPU, Dual boot XP/Windows 7

Blue Screens And Game Crashes
I just built a new machine and did a clean install of Windows 7 RC last week. For the most part it runs like a dream, very much up to par.

However, there are occasional Blue Screens and game crashes that happen while putting little strain on the PC, in my opinion.

I am typically running Firefox, Ventrilo and World of Warcraft when the issue occurs. Occasionally I get dips in my frame rate from around 60fps to 15-25fps. I received a notification that it was in relation to my video card and that I should update the driver, however I installed the 185.85 nvidia driver when I assembled it all.

Is there anyone that has experienced similar issues? if so what was your fix?

BSOD: Pc Crashes Once In A While , With Blue Screens And Reboot
The pc crashes once in a while , with blue screens and reboot. I had the same prob with winxp so i installed Windows 7 supposing that restarts would stop...But nothing.. So far i have done these:

remove the tick on "automatically restart" -> (so i could see the blue screen..

update drivers, with device manager and driver genius -> nothing

update bios from asus website -> nothing

do check disk -> nothing

defrag -> nothing

usb legacy support disabled from bios (smwhere read that)->nothing

sptd.sys fixed -> nothing

Rc task disabled (read that too) -> nothing

sleep and hibernation set to never - >nothing

run memtest (3.5) but i have difficulties because when it starts testing (single cpu or multiple) at test 2 and 45% reboots. when i choose to run memtest previous version (3.4) it recognizes cpu as pentium 3 and completes the test with 10 errors at test 5.

I noticed that asus set to my memories timings 5-5-5-12 and voltage 1,8 , so i put timings 4-4-4-12 and voltage 2.2 (manufacture had these timings although gives voltage 2.0)

Video Games Black Screen That Crashes While In Full Screen
All the games I had when I used Windows Vista were playable. Now with Windows 7, whenever any of my games starts in full screen mode, my monitor turns black and does nothing else. The monitor still detects my computer because the monitor gave me no error of a missing input. I cannot alt+tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del or even WindowsLogo+Tab and I am forced to cut the power and restart.

After long tiring research giving me such suspects like DirectX 11, disabling Aero, to the all popular lacking computer requirements to play the game I could play before I installed Windows 7. My conclusion was I could play games as long as there are not in full screen mode or in other words Windowed Mode.

Why must I play all my games in Windowed Mode to play them on Windows 7? Is there a way to fix this problem?

I have already tried to play a few games in compatibility mode and it does not change anything.

Random Black Screen Crashes
I just recently built a new computer and installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (specs below). I'm having these very random full black screen crashes. The screen goes completely black, no mouse or taskbar. But the system stays on. I can open the dvd drive as well. No odd noises come from the computer either.

I checked my Event Logs and there are alot of Error's, Critical's and some Warning. The most common ones are "Service Control Manager", "PNRPSvc", and "Kernel-Power" & "Kernel-General."

Blue Screen - Blue Screens
I have been using the Windows 7 beta (build 7000) since the day it came out publicly without any problems. I downloaded both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the RC.  Whenever I try to install either version I get a BSOD during the install.  The DVD boots, it goes through the first Grey Progress bar, shows the new windows boot splash animation, then goes tot he BSOD with both versions.

The message says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the bottom displays *** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000008, 0 x0000000000000000) I have tried systematically disconnecting ever component I could one at a time.  I have 3 SATA Hard Drives connected, which I disconnected one at a time, and tried only one plugged at a time. 1 SATA DVDROM disconnected and connected 1 PATA DVDROM Disconnected and connected 6 GB Memory DDR2 PC6400, 2x 1GB sticks 2x 2GB sticks Tried disconnecting each, reseating, and installing with only one inserted at a time I took out my Belkin Wireless Card I disabled the SATA, PATA, Network, and integrated sound one at a time in BIOS Reset BIOS to "Fail Safe Options" None of these things worked.

I am really enjoying Windows 7, and I hope there is a solution to this.  I would like to upgrade to the RC, and I hope it is definitely fixed before RTM. The last thing I could think it would be related to is the Motherboard itself, which I dont know any way to get around.

External Boot Screen Crashes My Computer
i have been using Tuneup Utilities for years to keep my computer running well. I installed it on Windows 7 and loaded an external boot screen and now whenever i try to boot Win 7 it just shows black screen. i waited for 5 minutes and it still didn't do ____. and since i cant get past boot i cant disable the boot screen and Windows 7 is useless.

can anyone shed some light on this problem and maybe offer some solutions? or in the very least drop me a link to a good blog website?

PS i have Windows XP on the same machine so a solution that don't involve reformatting would a be a blessing.

Frequent System Freezes
If there's already a thread concerning this issue I apologize for reposting but there's just too many questions to look through.

Since I installed Windows 7 RC I've been experienceing total systemfreezes frequently. My laptop won't win any awards for it's hardwarepreformance so maybe it's a CPU or RAM -related problem, but I thought I should ask to see if anyone else has experienced this.

The problem occurs when I work with two windows (or more) open, one of them has often been Mozilla Firefox 3. The computer freezes after a link is clicked or when I scroll through a site, but also from just enlarging a window from the taskbar.

This results in me having to force shut-down and reboot. I don't know how accurate the RAM/CPU preformance -gadget is, but according to it my computer runs smoothly, hence my suspicion of the RC being the cause.

Frequent / Infrequent Locking Up Of The Computer
My computer seems to lock up after it starts accessing the hard drive for sometime. Right now i think the problem is with the hard drive as the HDD light from my case is on whenever it locks up.

So Far: I have updated all the driversThe computer has locked up so far on the game TF2, Windows Media Center when playing back recorded media and once in Firefox 3.0I have already turned off sleep on my hard drive which was only a temporary fix...

I have a Seagate ST31500341AS which i heard that it may have firmware problems, but checking the seagate support site, it doesn't seem so that the problem relies with the firmware problem...

Finally i happened to encounter a BSOD for a physical dump, but seems to not have registered with the windows event logger...So is there anything else that can be done or is this just hopeless?
