Black Screen After Install Reboot, No VGA Port, No CRT
Seems everyone has alternative video choices but me. I don't have a spare vid card, CRT, and my 8800GT has dual DVI, no VGA. Guess I could try a DVI-VGA converted but I don't see how that would work. I tried the low res option (F8) and I still got a black screen. I can't believe this installed beautifully in VMWare but I can't complete a native install.

Black Screen On Install Reboot
While trying to get Windows 7 Pro 64bit installed on my computer, I get a black/blank screen near the end of the install after one of the reboots. The computer posts, shows the Windows 7 logo and then just goes black. The hard drive keeps running and is being accessed (for awhile), so I know the computer has not locked, but I cannot get the screen to come on.  I am installing from the $30 student download of Windows 7 Professional Upgrade. I downloaded the ISO from Microsoft and used the Microsoft tool to burn it to a DVD. I have an AMD Athlon X2 4200+ CPU with 4GB of RAM in an ABIT KN8-SLI motherboard; no overclocking or anything like that. I have a single 1TB hard drive that I am doing a clean/custom install to (no other partitions on the drive). My video card is an NVidia 7600GS; it has both VGA and DVI out. My monitor is a ViewSonic VP920b (I have no other monitors). I normally have both the VGA and DVI connections plugged into the monitor, but I usually have the monitor and windows set to use DVI.  The Windows 7 upgrade advisor reports that my hardware is compatible with Windows 7 64bit.  I’ve tried installing with just the DVI cable connected.  I’ve tried installing with just the VGA cable connected. I've tried redownloading the disk image, burning a new disk and reinstalling from the new disk. I’ve tried hitting F8 at boot and starting in low resolution mode.  I’ve tried switching from one output to the other and back while I see the black screen.  I’ve tried installing with all other devices (printer, Bluetooth, scanner, etc.) disconnected.  I’ve tried booting to safe mode: it looks like it is going to work, but then I get an error that setup cannot be completed in safe mode. I’ve made sure my BIOS is up to date.  This computer runs Vista Ultimate 32bit perfectly. I’ve left it running for a month, while doing tons of gaming, etc., and I never get any errors, lockups or reboots, so I am pretty sure the hardware is solid. The most common reason I have to reboot is the monthly Microsoft patch releases.  In all, I've tried installing from scratch about 15 times, using the above permutations, with exactly the same result.Does anyone have any suggestions?

Boot Problem When Connected To VGA (D-Sub) Port, Not DVI Port
I am having a strange problem with Windows 7 beta. I installed it but when it came time to boot for the first time I can't get it to finish booting. If it is connected to a monitor through the DVI port it will pause at loading classpnp.sys (I found this out through safe mode) then just reboot. This doesn't happen with a VGA connection using the D-Sub 15 pin connector.Searching the Internet reveals a couple of illuminating posts but no solution really. Does anyone know what is going on?I have the following motherboard:Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2HChipset: nVidia geForce 7100/nForce 630i Did anyone else have this problem and overcome it?

Black Screen During Install Question
Doing custom clean 64 bit install on seperate new 160 gig hard drive in my existing XP box (which is 32bit). Boots to DVD ok.Goes through the two black screens with white loading files status bar ok.Select partition to install ok.Goes to blue screen with light rays coming down and successfully expands files.Successfully completes the next two options and then get the system needs to reboot. Reboot fine back to the light ray screen.Get Starting Services ok. The status bar is in part 2 now and about 3/4 across the screen on the bottom of my monitor. My G15 keyboard and razor diamondback mouse both power off randomly and then back on a couple times as if they are being configured or recognized by the install. At this point my screen loses signal but the computer does not lock up. I can push the cap lock and num lock keys and each time the light will turn off and on. The HD light will blink every so often but not in the same interval. I am on my 3rd try to install this. The first time I let it sit in this state for 15 min and then rebooted the computer. I got my dual boot option but when I chose windows 7 I made it to "starting services" and then the "windows did not finish installing, push ok to restart so windows can finish installing" window. The message repeats if I reboot. The 2nd time I let the computer sit for an hour before rebooting it and then getting the same problem as before.I am now going to let it sit at this black screen for 5 hours (while I am at work) and see what happens. I did hook up a CRT monitor but still no video. Any other ideas?Does the versions need to be the same in a dual boot? Can I install Windows 7 64 bit dual boot in an XP 32 bit system?edit - have tried booting into safe mode but ran into windows cant install in safe mode and I ran the memory test which passed. If the system still isnt up when I get home I will try the boot to 640x480 option.

Black Screen During Finishing Install
Ok, heres the deal, I have been trying to install windows 7 on this pc for awhile now, I cannot figure this problem out no matter how hard I try. The installation goes fine up until 'finishing installation' when which the screen just goes black and never does anything, ever overnight. After restarting it will goto the logo screen and then just load onto a black screen, again never doing anything further. Finally, when attempting to access safe mode, it loads up to classpnp.sys and then freezes. Now, I have tried many many things to fix this and done lots of Googling but nothing has worked, other versions of Windows install and work fine. Things tried... 1. swapping video cards 2. Switched monitors (I have read there can be an issue relating to this with needing a VGA plugged in however my card does not offer VGA, nor do I have onboard video. 3. Multiple installs of diff win 7 versions 4. Bios tinkering and restoring defaults. 5. many other things... If someone could somehow help figure this out, then well I would be really appreciative...

Install Hangs With Black Screen And Watermark Only

When it should be time to enter the key, the screen is completely black *except* for the Windows 7 watermark. Are there any known issues with this board and the on-board graphics chip? Can anybody recommend a HDMI card to drive my Plasma Display that has good 7 support?

BSOD During Install Process - Screen Goes Black
I keep getting a BSOD and a failed install trying to install Windows 7. In the past, similar problems have also occurred with all versions of Windows Vista beyond Beta 2, and every recent Linux distro I've ever tried. It occurs in both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and I never have found a way around it. It does not occur with Windows XP install. The problem occurs in Windows 7 install shortly after the install adjusts the resolution to match that of my monitor. This is during the final listed stage of the install process, after the first reboot. The screen goes black, a BSOD quickly pops up (and then disappears too fast for me to read the stop code), and the computer restarts then reports that the install has failed and needs to be restarted. I have tried running the diagnostic in the repair option during the setup process, which reports that there are no problems and that Windows booted successfully. I already eliminated a bad burn as the cause. And the fact that this has happened across several OSes and several discs seems to rule out it simply being a bad ISO. I have flashed the BIOS on my motherboard. I have tried removing all but 1GB of RAM (one stick). I have tried disconnecting all but the essential hardware. I have tried changing between which of my two video cards I use. I have reset the BIOS to default settings both before and after the flashing. I fiddled with all sorts of BIOS controls as per suggestions on various forums (disable Cool & Quiet, etc). I even tried connecting a CRT monitor via VGA instead of my flat panel via DVI (seems like it wouldn't matter, but two separate posts I found on the matter said that solved it for them). I still get the exact same BSOD at the exact same part of the install process every single time. I'm completely stumped. Anyone have any ideas? System components: DFI LanParty nForce4 SLI-DR eVGA GeForce 7800GT 512MB (have two, only have 1 connected for the install) 4GB Corsair XMS DDR-400 Seagate 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s (this is the drive I'm using for the install. All other HDs are disconnected). Dell 2005FPW screen

Blank/Black Screen Problem During Clean Install
After few seconds start screen disappears and is repalced by a Black/Blank screen with only mouse pointer. Mouser is working but there is nothing on screen to click on. Keyboard is working fine too. (checked with NumLock and Caps Lock keys) Nothing happends beyond this point even after rebooting and repeating above process. Searched internet for above problem symptoms. Looks like Windows 7 decides default monitor on its own. There is no way to decide it yourself duing installation. My motherboard has two ports. 1 DVI and 1 analog. I have only 1 Analog monitor and do not plan on buying/having another monitor. DVI to analog convertor is not available in market to test display from DVI port. Could somebody please help?

Black Screen Arrow After Win7 64bit Install
I upgraded from Vista64 to Windows7 64bit final (not a clean install) on an HP M9300T desktop. Everything worked fine, until the final restart. System will start, I get the colored thingees, I get the Welcome screen, when it should go to my desktop, I get only a black screen with the arrow in the middle. Even if I boot into safe mode, I still only get the black screen... I've tried reinstalling x4. I can hit CRTL+ALT+DEL and get to the task manager, and I can run task, programs go on-line etc. Ran the Nvidia control applet, the monitor is set to native resolution @ 59hz. Don't know if that is causing a problem, I've changed it but it doesn't seem to stay set. Other than the DVI output I've tried VGA and HDMI outputs to several different screens from the GS 9800 video card, no change. I even browsed to the Nvidia site and installed their latest Windows 7 64bit WHQL drivers. I've disconnected everything except the keyboard, monitor and mouse, I've pulled every card out of it except the video card, no change?

Setup Clean Install, Restart, Black Screen, Freeze
I have the exact same problem. I was fine with Beta on a separate drive partition of 80GB. I formatted it completely, install RC on it. After all is said and done and rebooted twice, it boots with a black screen (with Windows 7 Evaluation copy. Build 7100 on bottom right corner of screen) and nothing else happens even for 20 minutes. It seems stuck. Due to GTX 260 nvidia card perhaps? I have an Asus P5K-E Intel based motherboard. I installed the x64 Windows 7 RC... Another thing that I don't understand is that it never asked me for a Product ID during the installation. I imagine that would be at first bootup?.

Install From DVD Hangs With Black Screen And Arrow Cursor
Trying to do a clean install from DVD boot and not getting very far. I get "windows is loading files ..." and the progress bar which completes in a few seconds, followed by the same "windows is loading files ..." and progress bar, this time completing slowly (about 40-50 seconds). Then I get the "starting windows" and 4 dancing color balls screen which completes in maybe 30 seconds, and after that a black screen with the arrow mouse cursor. I can move the cursor around with the mouse but clicking, or keyboard keys don't seem to do anything. No disk or DVD activity apparent. I checked my monitor setup menu and it says it's in 800x600 mode. I tried booting on 2 different PCs that have totally different hardware (semperon on gigabyte mobo, etc.; pentium 4 on albatron mobo, etc.) and got the same result! I re-downloaded the ISO and burned it with different programs (Nero vs ImgBurn), made no difference. Any ideas? PS: I found by accident, if I hit "enter" just as the boot begins, I can get into the "windows boot manager" screen, but none of the options I tried gets me past the black screen w/ arrow cursor. Â

Post Is Fine Then Black Screen After Windows Start Screen
After a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit everything is great until I shut it down. When I turn it back on the boot is normal until just after the startup screen then the Monitor goes black and into sleep mode while the PC seems to continue on. It doesn't do it all of the time. I have loaded all the latest drivers for Win 7 for all the hardware I have. I post mentioned the CRT Monitor had to be shut down for and hour then he could see the windows screen. He also said the LCD monitor was fine. So, is this the fix? a new Monitor? or is there some setting I can adjust to get past the black/sleep screen issue?

Video Games Black Screen That Crashes While In Full Screen
All the games I had when I used Windows Vista were playable. Now with Windows 7, whenever any of my games starts in full screen mode, my monitor turns black and does nothing else. The monitor still detects my computer because the monitor gave me no error of a missing input. I cannot alt+tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del or even WindowsLogo+Tab and I am forced to cut the power and restart. After long tiring research giving me such suspects like DirectX 11, disabling Aero, to the all popular lacking computer requirements to play the game I could play before I installed Windows 7. My conclusion was I could play games as long as there are not in full screen mode or in other words Windowed Mode. Why must I play all my games in Windowed Mode to play them on Windows 7? Is there a way to fix this problem? I have already tried to play a few games in compatibility mode and it does not change anything.

Upgrade Install: PCI Express Standard Root Port Problem
Upgrade installation on Vista SP1 HP notebook (dv2000; AMD/Nvidia) completed without apparent problem, but wireless adapter doesn't function. In fact, it doesn't even appear in device manager. Built in ethernet adapter functions and machine connects to network,  but oddly enough it also does not appear in device manager. In Device Manager under Network Adapters, the only item is 'NVidia Nforce Networking Controller'. When this machine ran Vista, this heading used to show Broadcom built-in wireless and ethernet adapters. Also noticed that under System Devices, there are two entries for "PCI Express Standard Root Port" both of which show error text  "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)". In 'Devices and Printers', the icon for the computer shows the yellow triangle 'not working properly' state. As far as I can tell, the only functional problem is with the built in wireless adapter-- everything else appeared to migrate successfully (even the wireless USB mouse). I've tried uninstalling the Nforce networking controller (as well as the PCI Express standard root port entries) followed by scan for devices; the Nforce and root port entries get re-installed with the same issues as before.  'Add a Device' fails to find the built in wireless network adapter (and the built in ethernet adapter, as well, though it continues to function). Booting in Safe Mode also shows same problems with PCI Express standard root ports. Anything else I can try to address this problem (which I assume is causing the network adapter issues)?

Black Screen After Coming Out Of Screen Saver
I have a lenovo X61 which I removed all partions of and installed W7U x64. downloaded the lenovo update utility and the combination of lenovo auto download and windows update installed all necessary drivers. Machine was working beautifully for at least 4 weeks. Then once I was working without the power plugged with over 50% of charge left. Went away for a while came back and the machine was I assume in blank screen saver mode. I moved the point tracker, typed some keys but the deep black screen would not go away. tried forcing to go into sleep by shutting the cover. that didn't work. Tried for force it into hibernation by pressing the power button once that didn't work. Hard reset it by pressing the power button until it went off.when rebooted it allowed me to login but Symantec NIS2010 gave me an error that it is was not activated although it was. I restarted the machine and this time it will not boot. Tried safe mode. No luck.I had to reinstall everything again 4 days ago.Yesterday again, I got the black screen when my laptop went into blank screen saver mode with no power connected to it.Hard reset was the only solution. This time I started up in Safe Mode then restarted and it is working fine. However, I do not want to risk going through the same issue again. We are configuring a volume mirror replication at work to recover faster if something happens again. But this is very troubling, time consuming and frustrating. any ideas what the issue might bet?

Win7 Install Fails On Last Reboot
I am attempting to install the Windows 7 beta. I am currently running 32 bit Vista on a Dell XPS 720 with a GEForce 8800.I had a spare disk which I installed and formatted. I attempted to install Windows 7 to it. The installation proceeded without incident, but on the last reboot (I think it's the last), the Starting Windows sceen displays, the startup twirling logo displays, and then it displays a 'Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 For testing only' (or some such) message at the bottom right of the screen. The screen is otherwise black. There is some disk activity through the startup, but it then slows and the disk light seems to blink pretty regularly once a second, with no apparnte change in that pattern. I've waited for hours but nothing happened. The mouse can move around the screen, but the install does not proceed. The dual boot was correctly set up and I can freely boot to either system, but each attempt to start up Windows 7 meets the same end.I tried starting Windows7 in safe mode, but I get a message box saying that the intallation cannot complete in safe mode. I tried starting in 640x480 mode, but that had no effect - the install still stalls...Any idea what's going on?
