Black Screen Of Death On Logon
you guys wouldn't know a fix for a Windows 7 RTM Ultimate every time they logon its a black screen but they can see the logon screen until it goes to the desktop. I'm pretty sure its the video card driver or the video card itself.
Computer Type: Desktop
Video Card Type: ATI Radeon 4870
Works in safe mode with internet
Alt Ctrl Del works but doesn't show taskmanager Cannot logout only shutdown.
Fresh install (today)
Tried reinstalling the vista driver and then the windows 7 driver.
I heard something about BIOS could be a factor but i don't think so.

Black Screen Of Death
The full details of my system before anyone can help. The computer is an Intel core 2 duo 6600 2.40 Ghz with 2 meg ram. Nvidia Gforce 8600 GT graphics card. I have no onboard VGA graphics just the Gforce, and I am not sure if I have DVI display the monitor just connects with the normal socket. The hard drive I am installing to is a 80Gig SATA and I formatted it before starting with the windows 7 RC boot dvd so it is a clean install. I downloaded the installation file and burn the image with Nero on a slow speed. When I boot from the DVD all works ok and the computer restarts a few times, and then just a black screen. After several attempts i did manage to get as far as inputting the serial number and windows 7 started up it then connected to the internet and downloaded some updates and then restarted and i was back to the black sreen, i could at that time boot into safe mode but i was not able to connect to the internet and download new video drivers. Then after foollowing some advice i did another install, I tried a reinstall and now I can’t get as far as the serial number. I can’t understand this as I did have it running just the once even if it was in safe mode. I have run the Windows 7 RC upgrade advisor and that says my computer is ok to run Windows 7 including the Gforce card.

Windows 7 Black Screen Of Death
My computer has recently started to get the Black Screen of death every time I try to log in. It boots up and goes through the bios and the Windows 7 logo but after that, rather than loading the 'log-in screen' it simply stays as blank, black screen. There is no cursor, mouse, error message, etc. and Ctrl, Alt, Del does not work here either. It will however allow me to log in via 'safe mode'. I have tried the following fixes: I have restored the computer to a known working date; I have tried repairing the MBR, as well as the Boot sector; I have run a 'Check Disk' with no errors coming back; I have tried the 'Prevx Black Screen Fix'; I have run a 'Memory diagnostics test' via Windows 7 live cd, which returned no errors; and I have also tried the 'Repair' option in the menu on the Windows 7 live cd. Now, every once in a while, it will actually make it to the log-in screen and let me log into Windows like normal, which then proceeds to work just fine. But, if I restart the computer, it will again get stuck at the Black Screen right before the log-in screen and just sit there. And all the fans are working, the green light comes on on the motherboard, and everything seems to be in working order as far as hardware goes. What could be the problem?? I am out of ideas at this point.

Microsoft Patches Cause Black Screen Of Death
Microsoft’s latest round of security patches appears to be causing some PCs to seize up and display a black screen, rendering the computer useless. The problem affects Microsoft products including Windows 7, Vista, and XP operating systems, said the CEO and CTO for the U.K. security company Prevx. Prevx was alerted to the problem by users of its security software last week, the CEO said. Microsoft apparently made changes to the Access Control List (ACL), a list of permissions for a logged-on user. The ACL interacts with registry keys, creating visible desktop features such as a sidebar. However, the latest patches appear to make some changes to those registry keys. The effect is that some installed applications are not aware of the changes and do not run properly, causing a black screen. Security applications seem to be particularly affected. The CEO said users of other security products have also complained about the issue, even going so far as trying to reinstall the operating system to fix it. Prevx has released software that fixes the registry to match the ACL settings, which should resolve the problem, the CEO said. Users could do this on their own by modifying their registry settings, but making alterations to those settings is risky since it can severely affect how the operating system runs. The CEO said Microsoft was likely just trying to fortify the security of the operating systems when it inadvertently made the error in its patches. Black Screen Before Logon / Cannot Boot
I've had this issue multiple times -- usually startup repair restores to an earlier point, but it appears that the system did not create a new restore point in between the past two times this occurred, so currently I can't boot to 7.After the "Starting Windows" screen with the glowing logo, I simply get a black screen with the mouse on it (which I can control). An interesting thing I noticed is that when it gets to the black screen, the backlight on my screen dims. I can't bring up task manager, anything. End up just having to hard restart the laptop.

Remote Desktop, After Logon, Black Screen
I am able to Remote Desktop fine from a laptop running Windows 7 into my desktop running Windows 7, the problem is that once I LOGOFF (or disconnect) and go to my desktop, all I see is a black screen with the mouse movement. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing. I can go back to the laptop and RD into my desktop and it lets me login just fine. But I have restart the system again by pressing the POWER BUTTON (soft, not hard 4 sec) and it goes to shut down, with nothing to show on the screen other than black and mouse cursor. anything I'm doing wrong?

Black Logon Screen On Hibernate Only, Resolved By Unplugging Monitor
After running Windows 7 RC since June I have encountered a problem over the last week which I am unable to resolve. If I boot the machine from Hibernate mode the logon screen appears black. The monitor is receiving signal, but it is not displaying anything. If I unplug the monitor from the back of the computer and plug it back in then Windows 7 makes its installing new hardware sound and the logon screen appears. I do not experience this black screen when using Sleep mode or a standard Shutdown, only Hibernate. I have only recently experienced this problem and can only assume it was caused by a recent Windows 7 update, as I have not installed any new hardware etc. I am running an Intel Core 2 duo and Nvidia 8600GTS on a 17" Illyama LCD monitor. It is a single monitor setup. I have tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers and this has not affected the situation. Does anyone have any idea what has broken hibernate mode on my PC?

Black Screen Instead Of Logon Screen
I use the bios selection to boot from either drive A or B.I use Windows dual-boot menu on drive B to select between Vista and 7RC. The black screen problem was first observed with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the Beta distributed at the Installation Festival. I had taken only one monitor to the festival and everything appeared to be working fine then. Once home, I noticed that I had no sound. I downloaded drivers for my SPXFI card and got sound but, got the black screen on reboot. I asumed that the SB driver was the cause. I had configured the Display on DVI 2 as my main display. I then tried the 32-bit version with the same results. I had purchased a brand new 1TB drive for my Win 7 experimentation. I had disabled my main drive (A) throught the BIOS for installation. I hastily concluded that W7 was not quite ready for my system. I installed Vista Home Premium on my B drive using the same method and everything worked fine. When RC was announced, I downloaded the 64-bit version, created a partition on my B drive and installed it there while my A drive was disabled from the BIOS. Installation went fine but I encountered the same black screen problem on the final reboot. However, I observed the odd disk activity and did not want to turn of the computer while this was going on. I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and other things and managed to get some voice from the computer. I had activated the Access functionality from the invisible logon screen. I did another Ctrl+Alt+Delete, typed my password and followed by Enter. The monitor connected to DVI 1 immediately came on. I did not have a menu bar because I had specified the other monitor as my primary one. A right-click on the screen brought up the contextual menu, from which I selected Personalize > Display > Change display settings. Clicking the "Detect" button turned on the second monitor. I plan on altering my connection so that my main display will be on DVI 1 instead of 2. In the mean time, I will blind-type my password and restore the settings.

However, still don't know how to switch my logon back to Green color.

After about 30 minutes or so it crashes and i get the bsod telling me Driver_power_state_failure with the corresponding error code. Microsoft obviously has no clue as their techs had me on the phone 12 hours and knew less than I do.

Safari 4 Blue Screen Of Death
Just installed fresh brand spanking new official copy of Win 7, followed by just as fresh and spanking copy of Safari 4. Tried to run it - blue screen of death with the customary memory dump. Did a little digging and realised -Apple screwed it up, big time. Well things happen, so I figured I will try Chrome (anything but that slow poke Gomez AKA IE8). And then it hit me - MS screwed-up too. Big time. Win 7 is not supposed to crash because of an application chrash, and it does so on a regular basis. So my question is - while I wait for the Apple to fix their snafoo, what MS is going to do about their own even bigger foobar?

Blue Screen Of Death Update From 4/13
After restarting my computer after the recent update (on 4/13), Windows tried to finish it as it loaded windows again. Before it could finish i got the Blue Screen of Death. I tried it several times with the exact same results. I was able to boot it in safe mode and it appeared be working fine. It reversed the update as it had failed. When booting back into regular mode, windows got as far as to show my desktop before bring up the dreaded Blue Screen again. I again booted into safe mode, did a system restore. It seemed to do no good. Any suggestions to fix my issue? Or has anyone seen this happen to them?

Blue Screen Of Death Issues
I have a problem with Windows 7 and one of my computer. This unit is BSOD four to six times a day! I think that I have gotten a handle on the problem but I need some help from people smarter than me on Windows Debugging.  First of all, this unit ran for half a year using pre-beta, beta and RTM with no trouble at all. This unit was on 24 x 7 and at times I had VS2010 beta and Office 2010 beta plus whatever garbage I could throw on it and it had no trouble at all!! I decided to take this box should be targeted for Windows 7 and SharePoint development. Again using it to test the waters. One of the requirements if I plan to install SharePoint 2010 on this box would be x64 bit OS. Originally I had 4 gigabytes of memory running (x86) and everything was fine. I decided to boost the RAM to 8 gigs and install 64 bit version of Windows 7.  WOW this was a nightmare! Soon after installing Windows and VS I notice that the box had recovered and I asked myself, from what? I realized that the shutdown improperly like when you loose power or something. I paid no attention to this and continue load software. A day later, the box was attempting to recover again!? This time it told me it could not and had to go back a bit before it found a good image to restore from. Finally when it came back, I noticed Visual studio was no longer installed!! For the first time, I go to event viewer and found that the box was shutting down improperly a great many times. While looking at the logs the box showed me a blue screen and shut down. I took memory out, back to 4 gigs and that help a little but it was still unstable. I went to ASUS site (it is an ASUS mo bo) and downloaded all 64 bit drivers I could find and installed them. This seems to stabilize the box so I got confidence to put back the memory. Before I tell you what happened next I like to say that at one point the BSOD where occurring with a degree of frequencies and the drivers cut the incident to less than 25% but they were still there. At this point the machine what having BSOD incidents about two to three times a day.  I got it in to my head that it may be a power related thing. So I scaled back to four gigs of ram and the box seem to be stable now? Okay, I guess you can argue that I found the problem. In the process of doing all of this it became apparent to me how weak I was regarding troubleshooting Windows problem. It was more about magic and guess work than deductive reasoning. I would like to become a little more proficient with windows debugging and was wondering if you guys could point me to good diagnostic tools, perhaps some good books and any other trick and tips.  I found Dumpchk.exe but this tools is going to require some detailed attention before I can master it along with the Windows SDK. I think the problem I am experiencing may require a bigger power supply and some power tweaking at the bios level. Any ideas and suggestion?

Crashes With Blue Screen Of Death
I'm using an HP Pavilion DV7 Entertainment notebook. I've installed 7 Beta and had NO issues. I installed 7RC and it crashes daily. I have the .dmp files for analysis. HP has nothing to do with 7 yet because its not a GA release. How can I go about diagnosing where the problem is so that i can see if it can even be fixed? I've looked in the event logs, temp folder under my user name, .dmp file, looked at installed apps, the antivirus (Kaspersky), +++. I use predominantly MS apps. there are a few non native Microsoft apps such as Nero 9, Kaspersky, Blackberry Desktop, etc. any suggestions?
