Base System Device Drivers Not Installed
In Device Manger under "Other Devices" there is an entry titled "Base System Device." The message is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." Also "pci bus 9, device 3, function 2" appears. Needless to say, the "Update Driver Software" nor the Sony Support Website seem to list any drivers.
However, everything seems to work but perhaps I haven't used whatever function this driver runs. I'm running a Sony laptop, Model VGN-FW351J. 2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded.Any suggestions to update (or install) the driver will be greatly appreciated.

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed After Win 7 Pro 64 Bit Clean Installation
I've just clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (original OS was Vista Ultimate). All appears to have gone well but on checking Device Manager there's a Base System Device entry in Other Devices group which is showing an exclamation mark. On opening this entry it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" Clicking Update Driver and searching the Internet fails to locate a driver. I didn't install an Intel chipset after the Win 7 install (this computer is almost 3 years old and Dell haven't provided a chipset for Win 7 so I'm assuming chipset support is included in Win 7 out of the box).Could anyone advise if the above is likely to cause any significant problems?

HP Pavilion Dv9000 Laptop Driver For Base System Device
I just installed Windows 7 Beta on my HP Pavilion Dv9000 laptop and everything is working really well, but in device manager I have 2 items listed under Other Devices that say Base Sytem Device. I am assuming I need some kind of driver for them, but I am not sure how to tell what they are or what driver they will need. How do I figure this out? If I get the properties of these devices under the general tab I see Device type: Other device, Manufacturer: Unknown, and Location: PCI bus 9, device 9, function 3.

System Freeze During Games / Drivers Installed
Windows stops responding when i install something. Anything. After i installed Windows 7 i started with mobo drivers, the latest from Nvidia for nforce 750 chipset. 64bit. Then i tried to install the display drivers(latest) from nvidia. It took FOUR tries! system would freeze somewhere during the installation. Ok no biggie maybe a bug with latest drivers, i could have used olders i told myself. Now i try to install games. Nope. The system freeze and there's nothing i can do. Maybe it's GTA 4 that's hard on the system whatever so i try to install Civ4 ..same problem so anything i try to install the system freeze. It was fine for small programs like firefox or flash tho. Any idea? I suspect something wrong with mobo drivers but i have no idea how to remove them.

Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers
We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers. We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf. We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64. Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager. As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

Transfering Installed System To New Hard Drive
Here's the deal: I've bought a new 1.5TB hard drive for my PC to replace the 320GB one in there at the moment (turning it into a HTPC). Problem is, it's one of those mini-tower PCs and it only has the one hard drive slot. This means it's re-installation time! So the question is, what do you lot think would be the best way of setting up Windows 7 on this new drive, hopefully keeping as much as possible of my current setup? As far as I can work out, my options are as follows:Use the Windows Backup thing to do a complete PC backup, installing Windows on the new hard drive, then restoring the system from the backup. Use a Linux live CD and use Partimage to create an image of the system partition which I can then put on the new hard drive and hope it boots (obviously once the MBR is sorted, etc). Just install Windows on the new hard drive and set everything up again from scratch. The hard drive arrives in 2 days, so what do you reckon?

Installed Win7, System Will Not Boot From Proper Drive
I recently isntalled windows 7 professional and I have three sata drives, one is the system drive where windows 7 is installed (C, my primary partition, the other is a storage drive (F and a drive to replace the partition (Z. My boot priority for the moment is the F: drive then the C:. This is because for some reason my C: drive, even though the system is installed on it, will not boot. I tried several things like copying the hidden system folder in F:Boot to the C drive but that did not work. I recently did a repair install but that did not restore the boot manager. Is there a way to manually set my C: drive as my primary boot drive, without jumping through hoops, I bought the Z drive to replace the F drive and need to be able to boot without it.

Win 7 Install: No Files Installed In The System Folder
For the last two weeks I have been trying to install windows 7 either as a fresh install or as a upgrade from windows Vista X64I have been installing O/S's for at least 20 years and this is the first time I just can not get it to work. My configuration is as follows motherboard Super micro C2SBX cpu Q6700 video card ATI 4550 HDA adaptec 48300 but I also has a 4800 I can use and a leadtek 3200tv tuner card and 4Gb ram. I have two O/S 's installed on other drives XP X64 and Vista Business X64 I have both SAS drives and SATA drives.I have tried to install on both SAS and SATA BTW Windows Vista and XP X64 seem to work .So what happens I install Windows 7 everything works ok until it reboots then you get as far the windows picture comes together in the middle of the screen and then for about 250ms you get the BSOD now that is the first problem in 250ms I can not read the error message it is also not possible to pause it either. The other thing I noticed that their are no files installed in the system folder I thought that is strange.Question, Why does Windows XP X64 and Vista work ok but not Windows 7 this is not logical. I have tried to install on both SAS and SATA drives. This makes no difference.

So I tried older driver versions (8.383.0.0) and yet the same message pops up. I tried to donload the catalyst driver centre for vista 32bit for my card and run the installer package in compatibility mode and as administrator. Installation process ends and looks as if the control centre was installed correctly but it did not. When I go to Ati folder on computer it is empty.

No Sound, No Sound Device Detected, Drives Installed
I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel. Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

Only 1 CPU Showing In Device Mgr. On Dual Socket System
Performed a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on a Dual Socket PIII system with 2 Intel PIII 1ghz processors on Asus motherboard that has a VIA chipset. In the Device Mgr., under the Processors heading, it only lists one Intel Processor. At the least, it should list 2 Intel Processors to reflect the 2 physical processors mounted in the 2 physical CPU sockets. When WinXP Pro SP3 was installed on this same computer, it did show 2 processors in the Device Mgr., and I believe Win 7 should as well. I have several other Dual socket workstations with Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate installed on them, and they show 4 processors in Device Mgr, for the 2 physical and 2 virtual Hyper Threading processors. Does anyone have any idea why only one processor is being detected and/or reflected in the Device Mgr.? Do I need to install some Chipset drivers? Or should Windows 7 have installed drivers for the chipset?
