Base System Device Drivers Not Installed After Win 7 Pro 64 Bit Clean Installation

I've just clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (original OS was Vista Ultimate). All appears to have gone well but on checking Device Manager there's a Base System Device entry in Other Devices group which is showing an exclamation mark. On opening this entry it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" Clicking Update Driver and searching the Internet fails to locate a driver.

I didn't install an Intel chipset after the Win 7 install (this computer is almost 3 years old and Dell haven't provided a chipset for Win 7 so I'm assuming chipset support is included in Win 7 out of the box).Could anyone advise if the above is likely to cause any significant problems?

Base System Device - Drivers Not Installed
I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium and I have the Base System Device error on 3 devices. I am having a problem attaching multiple USB drives simultaneously so I want to make sure that these driver problems are not contributing to the problem.

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed
In Device Manger under "Other Devices" there is an entry titled "Base System Device." The message is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." Also "pci bus 9, device 3, function 2" appears. Needless to say, the "Update Driver Software" nor the Sony Support Website seem to list any drivers.

However, everything seems to work but perhaps I haven't used whatever function this driver runs. I'm running a Sony laptop, Model VGN-FW351J. 2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded.Any suggestions to update (or install) the driver will be greatly appreciated.

HP Pavilion Dv9000 Laptop Driver For Base System Device
I just installed Windows 7 Beta on my HP Pavilion Dv9000 laptop and everything is working really well, but in device manager I have 2 items listed under Other Devices that say Base Sytem Device.  I am assuming I need some kind of driver for them, but I am not sure how to tell what they are or what driver they will need.  How do I figure this out?

If I get the properties of these devices under the general tab I see Device type: Other device, Manufacturer: Unknown, and Location: PCI bus 9, device 9, function 3.

Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers
We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers.

We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf.

We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64.  Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager.

As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

Upgrade Win 7 Pro 32 Bit To Win7 Pro 64bit
I upgraded from Win XP to Win7 Pro, but used the 32bit disk. What do I need to do to upgrade using the 64bit version of Win7 pro, (both 32bit and 64bit upgrade disks were sent in my upgrade purchase). Works great but want to try the 64bit version.

Do I need to reinstall WinXP to do a clean install, or can I just use the upgrade version 64 of Win7 without the XP?

Will Student Win 7 Pro 32-bit Key Work For 64-bit Later ?
My niece, who's in college ordered and downloaded Windows 7 Professional (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) from win741.com (Microsoft/Digital River deal for students only).  I'm going to be installing this on her laptop (currently on Vista 32-bit going to ---> 7 Pro 32-bit), and her desktop (currently on Vista 32-bit going to ---> 7 Pro 64-bit via a clean custom install) this weekend.

I'm also upgrading her desktop to 8GB of RAM since she uses this for Photoshop 64-bit and needs the extra memory for the times when she has several RAW D-SLR files and files with multiple layers open.  Hence, the reason why we're using 64-bit on that desktop.  We stayed with 32-bit on the laptop because they have old printers at her college that don't have 64-bit drivers, so to save her the hassle of incompatible drivers, we stayed with 32-bit on her laptop since it only has 2 GB of RAM.

My Question is: If she decides to upgrade her RAM on her laptop later to 6GB, can she then use the 64-bit Windows 7 Pro installation (clean install of course) files she downloaded for her Desktop PC, but still continue to use the key she was given when she ordered & downloaded the 32-bit version?   I know this is possible with the Family Pack which provides 32-bit and 64-bit install CDs and just one key.  Is the same possible for the student $30 download deal she got?

System Freeze During Games / Drivers Installed
Windows stops responding when i install something. Anything.

After i installed Windows 7 i started with mobo drivers, the latest from Nvidia for nforce 750 chipset. 64bit.

Then i tried to install the display drivers(latest) from nvidia. It took  FOUR tries! system would freeze somewhere during the installation.

Ok no biggie maybe a bug with latest drivers, i could have used olders i told myself.

Now i try to install games. Nope. The system freeze and there's nothing i can do. Maybe it's GTA 4 that's hard on the system whatever so i try to install Civ4 ..same problem so anything i try to install the system freeze. It was fine for small programs like firefox or flash tho.

Any idea?

I suspect something wrong with mobo drivers but i have no idea how to remove them.

W7 Installation: Device Drivers Not Found
I bought a W7 Home Premium, the discounted version for students, and I'm trying to install it on my Acer 6930G (500GB, ram 4GB, ...right stuff for W7).

I'm actually running W Vista x86, and I know that in order to run W7 x64 (the one I bought) I must do a custom installation from the boot. And I'm doing so, well trying to...

After the window asking for my location and keyboard input, I continue but then I get stuck.

A new window pops up asking me for a device driver...it stated "device driver not found"...

I read a lot on the internet, but that's driving me mad...

how can I solve the problem and having that OS running?!

I'm going to sue Microsoft if that OS is not gonna run... xD

Will Win 7 Professional Upgrade Allow A Wipe / Clean Installation ?
I'd like to know whether Windows 7 Professional UPGRADE will allow a user to upgrade an existing system by installing clean on a fresh drive attached to a system with an upgrade-qualified previous OS such as Vista Ultimate Edition.  For our environment, it's important to preserve the ability to revert to the previous system for a while until confidence in the released Win 7 product is established.  So the preferred upgrade path would be, install clean and migrate user state.

Win 7 Install: No Files Installed In The System Folder
For the last two weeks I have been trying to install windows 7 either as a fresh install or as a upgrade from windows Vista X64I have been installing O/S's for at least 20 years and this is the first time I just can not get it to work.

My configuration is as follows motherboard Super micro C2SBX cpu Q6700 video card ATI 4550 HDA adaptec 48300 but I also has a 4800 I can use and a leadtek 3200tv tuner card and 4Gb ram.

I have two O/S 's installed on other drives XP X64 and Vista Business X64 I have both SAS drives and SATA drives.I have tried to install on both SAS and SATA BTW Windows Vista and XP X64 seem to work .So what happens I install Windows 7 everything works ok until it reboots then you get as far the windows picture comes together in the middle of the screen and then for about 250ms you get the BSOD now that is the first problem in 250ms I can not read the error message it is also not possible to pause it either.

The other thing I noticed that their are no files installed in the system folder I thought that is strange.Question, Why does Windows XP X64 and Vista work ok but not Windows 7 this is not logical. I have tried to install on both SAS and SATA drives. This makes no difference.

Win 7 64 Bit Upgrade Different From Clean Install ?
i like fresh installs on a Zeroed hard drive. i got win7 64bit but its an upgrade disk only. i have legit xp64bit right now. my question is this. the option that says " all information will be lost" or something like that is that a fresh install where it formats the drive and then installs a fresh windows 7 install? or does it just convert the old files and like a normal install?

Win 7 Wont Boot From Hard Disk After Clean Installation
I tried to do a clean install on an XP machine set up to dual boot. At the first reboot it failed with an error message (I think it was "bootmgr missing"). Tried again with similar result so contacted Microsoft UK. After several attempts over 5 days with them (formatting the hard drive, doing clean installs etc) I eventually got what I thought was a full installation, but could only get to this point with the CD set as the primary drive in the boot setup. After rebooting I got the error message "boot disk failure, insert system disk and press any key".

Doing that just got me back to the same error message. I eventually found that if I ignored that message, after a short wait I got a bootmanager screen with a Windows 7 entry highlit and I could either leave it alone or press enter and boot into Windows 7. Obviously some boot files have not been written the the hard disk. What files are missing and how can I rectify this problem.

Microsoft UK seem unable to help at the moment. I did try to format the disk from the Win 7 disk, and install, then at the first reboot set the bios to boot from the hard drive first, but that did not work and setup failed. I must have done at least 10 installs to get to the current state, so do not really want to repeat the process. Can any one please help?
