All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start

My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device."

I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones.

I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway.

The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

CD Drive Won't Display
Recently I've been installing/uninstalling DVD burner programs because the DVD maker that came with Windows 7 didn't seem to work for me. Of course, I had to uninstall many of the programs that I installed because it wasn't compatible with Windows 7. I think it was after I uninstalled the program Imgburn that I was no longer able to view my CD (F:) drive under my computer.

I found out that one of the drivers was disabled (code 32), so I tried repairing it following the solutions online. I mostly found that I could fix it by enabling the drive, but that wouldn't work. I tried disabling the drive and reenabling it, and even trying to edit it from regedit. Can someone help me? I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. The operating system is 64-bit and the processor is Pentium(R) dual core T4200. The driver that's having problems is TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L633B ATA Device.

Computer Won't Start
My problem is the system goes through regular BIOS Startup, and shows everything as working, then when it gets to the windows startup screen (where the 4 colored dots turn into the windows symbol), it does one of two things:

1. it just keeps waving there (you know how the colors kind of come out and in etc.)

2. it goes to a black screen, and none of my inputs work (ie. no keyboard mouse, ctrl+alt+del, anything)

The only way to get out of these two situations is to reset directly on the case.

Sometimes it will not go to the startup screen, and will give me the option of "launch startup repair" or "start windows normally". If I choose start windows normally, it goes to one of the top two problems, if i choose startup repair, it begins loading windows files, then the bar stops halfway (and doesnt move for over 8 hours).

The last thing i tried was starting from my windows 7 dvd, and that also begins loading files, then stops halfway.

Backup Won't Start
I have a Windows 7 Professional x64 (7600), which I got from MSDN-AA. I have two hdd installed on this computer, both are SATA-II. Since the second one is empty, I decided to use it as a backup disk. So, I started "Windows Backup" (aka "Backup and Restore"). There I found: "Windows Backup has not been set up." and a link to "set up backup". I clicked. That was 1 hour ago and Windows Backup didn't start until now. Well, on some testing version of Windows 7 I started Windows backup, but now I can't. I don't have any idea of what's happening, it just won't start at all.

Ah, and I won't cancel the starting process. I can click there, but it keeps on the same screen, trying to stop the starting (this makes any sense?). I don't know if this is related, but I've found this on my eventvwr: Error | VDS Basic Provider Unexpected failure. Error code:

490@01010004 This error happens when I try to start Windows Backup. Yes, I know this can be related to SPTD driver. I tried to remove it, but it didn't solve the problem, so I reinstalled. I can remove if someone ask me to do that.

Terminal Services Windows Won't Support A Second Display
Using build 7000, I've had the same result using the Citrix Web Interface to access a Server 2003 and the TS Web Access interface to access a Server 2008 box (no Citrix). In both scenarios, the session windows will only operate in the primary display.

They will not maximize to fill both displays and they cannot be dragged between displays (the edge disappears as though the app were being pulled off-screen). I have an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M adapter, and have had the same results with driver prerelease - WDDM 1.1 and the one before that.

If it's relevant, I'm using a Dell Latitude D630 with 4 GB RAM.On XP and Vista I didn't have this problem.I've tried a variety of settings in the nView Desktop Manager - including turning it off; no change. This is not a serious problem, but it would be nice to run my apps in my secondary display, which is much larger than the notebook's.

Error Code: 0x80070017, Now Windows Won't Start
I downloaded the 32 Bit Version of Windows 7 RC today and burned the ISO to a DVD using ImgBurn, but when I booted from the disc to install Windows 7 using the custom option, it got to 81% and then I got an error message. The error message reads as follows:Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for instatallation are available, and restart the installation.Error code: 0x80070017

After I click OK, my laptop restarts. It shows the Acer Logo and the Microsoft Corporation loading screen as usual, but then it shows a light blue screen (which looks something like the Windows Vista login screen but with no text and no login options) and restarts. It keeps restarting and showing the same things until I turn it off by the power button.Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? I can't get onto Windows Vista and am stumped and rather annoyed.

USB Device Detected Won't Start (code 10)
I've done a fresh install of Windows 7 yesterday on my desktop PC and I want to use the virtual PC for some USB hardware that doesn't have any x64 drivers.

I can choose the USB devices fine in the virtual machine, they are detected and XP starts the usual hardware install wizard.

However one of my devices gets the yellow exclamation mark in the device manager with a code 10 (device cannot start).

The virtual machine runs XP SP3, my laptop runs XP SP3 as well and there is no problem on there with this hardware. This leads me to believe that it might be a windows 7 Vmachine issue that is causing this.

I've tried removing the hardware and installing it again, but that didn't solve the problem.

Any ideas for a possible solution?

Matrox Win 7(x64) Display Driver Won't Install
I'm having problems installing my Matrox driver on windows 7(x64) version.

I've been using the 32bit version of windows 7, and i managed to get the matrox driver installed no problem. (i used the windows compatibility mode)

I've tried the same method again (Windows compatibility mode) and downloaded the Vista(x64) version of the driver. It suggests the right diver to install but then says i have an incompatible version of windows.

I have read up on the problem, and i have seen suggestions to check that the device ID is listed in the display drivers .inf file.

I've checked that and my device ID does exsist in the driver .inf file. So now i'm stumped, is there another way to install my driver?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my driver won't install.

Programs Won't Open Properly
OS: Win 7 HomeP 64bit

Recently Installed programs: Dragon Agerigins/DX update

I installed those both last night and played with no issues. Now today I turn on my PC and some programs won't open properly. My browser(Chrome) works(more on this later) and a few others do as well, but things like GameSpy Comrade, and Dragon Age, and Crysis 32/64bit will not open properly. When I click to open it loads for a bit than the program freezes, or it loads than does nothing. In both cases the program shows up in the task manager processes. If the program freezes it shows up in the task manager as running.

Solutions I've tried:

Restarting the computer
Virus scan(No results)

Can anyone give me some ideas?

Also chrome opens 3 times in the processes but I only have one window and one tab open. Is this normal?

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues).

But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work.

64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit.

I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.

Running Programs Won't Show Up On Taskbar
I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all.

The external is set to my main display.

Any ideas on what's going on?

Win7 Won't Start Up, Blue Screens And No Option To Enter SAFE MODE
I recently installed Window's 7 RC to temporarily replace Vista. Everything has been fine for couple months, then I used a tried and true program I used to use on Vista called "Auslogics" to help improve system speed. I used Auslogics Degrag, memory optimizer, but ran into problems after running "Registry Defrag". The program restarted the computer, began to defrag the registry, and then crashed to blue screen, dumped memory, and promptly restarted itself.

Problems:1. There is no option for safemode. Only "Automatically repair" (which doesn't work) , or start normally (which goes straight to blue screen after splash)

2. It will NOT: recover disk.

3. System Restore is apparently not enabled on hard drive, and I wouldn't know how to enable without getting to desktop.

4. Image Recovery also does not work. Please, if anyone has any suggestions, I need advice on where to go from here!

Some Programs Won't Run/install, Explorer Slow, Ect.
It was all fine until yesterday. I copied over a game from my laptop the night before (I just installed 7 on this computer recently, was copying over stuff from my laptop) and also finished installing World of Warcraft and not long after I turned off the computer.

The next day I switched it on and didn't notice anything at first but some programs wouldn't run (Winamp would have a blank space where the music list normally is).

I tried installing some virtual drive programs such as magic disc and power iso which I usually use for isos I rip onto the computer (I lost some discs before so I've been doing that recently) but the magic disc programs wouldn't run properly and power iso wouldn't progress during its installation.

I tried installing some anti spyware like AVG and Avast (Spyware doctor detected 300 odd tracking cookies that appeared in the past week I installed, way more than it did with my vista laptop) but they would just either not respond (and then pop up with a message saying it took a while and wouldn't respond) or just not even progress when it was installing (on the part where it begins putting down files)

Explorer itself is slow and takes a while to load when on "My computer" and usually wouldn't display USB drives. Once it did but it didn't actually open it up when I clicked on it and prevented the window from responding.

I have used task manager to close all these down when they wouldn't.

When I tried switching off my computer it just stayed on the logging off/shutting down screen. I tried leaving it overnight, expecting it to finally switch off but it only ende up going into sleep mode (and popped up with the log in screen when I waked it up)

I have switched the computer off and on a few times but its still the same.

I also got the disc I used to install and tried to repair it but it wouldn't boot from the disc when I switched on the PC and when I opened it up and ran the setup file, it came up with the usual "are you sure you want to run this" dialog and didn't do anything.

DivX 6 Encode AVI's Won't Play In Media Center
I am having a very odd problem. I have a bunch of files on another computer that I used to stream to this computer when it was Vista Ultimate running in Media Center. Now, with 7 RC Ultimate, when I try to stream the very same files within Media Center, Media Center itself crashes and has to be restarted.

This seems to be on ANY AVI that I have that is DivX 6 or XviD encoded (I think XviD anyway, I have definitely narrowed it down to being a DivX problem). I can go out to Windows Explorer and choose the very same file and play it perfectly fine in the regular Media Player application. I am not understanding why it plays in Media Player, but not in the much more desireable Media Center.

Computer Won't Stay Off
I am about at wits end when it comes to this computer. I just built it like last week, and everything runs beautifully about it; that is, except that the dang thing won't stay turned off! I tell it to shutdown, and it turns itself back on after about two or three seconds. Let me clarify: the computer itself does NOT randomly shutdown, nor am I having problems with sleep or hibernate (haven't used them yet).

Ok, so I have tried about everything on every help forum I've read from here to knittingforums.com. I have disable all wake events, including the ones in regards to network adapters. I have disabled automatic restart, and even fooled around in the BIOS, disabling all wake events. I've even flipped around between BIOS commanded and OS commanded event wakes in the BIOS. About the only thing I can do is log off of my user account, and then do a hard shutdown. Even did the thing where you specifically set what the power button does.

So... please help! I will be most gracious, and will give any more information if necessary. The only thing I have NOT done is flash the BIOS; it won't recognize the USB device I have the updated drivers on.

Installation Won't Reboot
I've been trying to install Windows 7 on a brand new computer. It's running RAID 0, and I'm using the latest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer.

Starting up the installation seems to work fine. It goes through the first phase of installation where I choose which partition I want to use, and it starts to copy files from the dvd, yada yada yada. After the "installing updates" section, a window pops up with the following message:

"Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation."

It then kicks me back to the start of installation. If I start the install again, it does the same thing. If I reboot and restart installation, also the same.

If I try a startup repair, I get a message saying that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

I've tried this on two builds--7000 and 7077. Both have the same result.

Laptop Won't Shut Down
running win7/64 here, problem is when shutting down Windows, the OS seems to perfectly shut down, but the laptop keeps being powered on, fan is working, power button is on, must press it a few seconds to turn off the system completely. It doesn't happen all the time. I use to dual-boot with Linux (not the case anymore, so the issue is not there), and it never happened when shutting down from Linux, but often from Windows, which makes me think that it's not a hardware issue. I chose this section to post because i can't think of any other one.

I got this problem too of being very often temporarily logged in to a temporary profile, may be the two issues are related. And no, my profile is not corrupted, creating a new one, as I already posted here in another thread, leads to the issue coming back soon or later. May be the profile is not properly unloaded, and may be this causes the issue too when shutting down the system, any clue?

ps: no problem when rebooting.

Won't Boot Without The DVD
OK, this feels a bit stupid but I can't seem to get Windows 7 to boot without the DVD in the drive. Without it I get NTLDR is missing etc etc. I have 2 Sata drives, one with XP on it and the other clean apart from an install of Windows 7.

I've arranged the boot order so that it tries to boot the Windows 7 drive first but to no avail. Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

When I give up and finally boot with the DVD in start up takes roughly 7 minutes. It all seems pretty strange. Once it's running all is fine, haven't had one issue or error yet.
