Activation Key For Window 7 Media Center

I have a Sony Media Center PC, equipped with a cable card tuner for digtal/premium TV viewing and recording.  The cable card is recognized in Vista, but to activate it I need a Media Center Activation Key that is included with my PC.  When I try to activate the cable card in Windows 7, I am prompted for a MC Activation Key but I wasn't given one by Microsoft.  I tried the Win7 Key, but no luck.

Any ideas where I can get a Media Center Activation Key?

Media Center Pauses When I Restore / Maximize The Program Window
When I use Windows Media Center to play DVD, either restoring or maximizing the Media Center window leads to the pause (no sound, blue MC background color, not stutter to say) of the program for one second or two. Whereas playing the same DVD in Windows Media Player has no such issue. This issue occurs in MC for all my DVDs. Does anyone have a solution, By the way, I use Windows 7 RC build 7100.

Maximizing Media Center On TV Moves Window Back To Monitor
I have an old analog TV and I want to use the Media Center on it in full screen mode. When I move the windowed Media Center to my TV and click on maximize, the window maximizes on my Monitor and not on my TV. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX with the latest Windows 7 beta drivers (from Windows Update). This issue also occurs in Vista with other applications, i.e.

when I use VLC v0.9.8 with its standard skin (note: the problem does not exist with certain other skins).By the way:

Have you fixed the following problem yet?

If you maximize the Media Center on TV, you cannot move the mouse to your monitor, it's stuck on the TV!?

It's an old known problem, see here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929524

Using a windowed mode is no option for me.

Window Media Center Won't Read Movie Folder
My movies folder will now longer show in the Movie library in WMC. I am not sure what happened. I have tried everything I can think of to make the database reset everything else is working great, pics, videos and music all working good but for some reason.

it will not see any of the movies in the folder. I added my movies folder to the videos library but all I got was the folders when I tried to open them. If I double click on the file itself in windows explorer..the file opens in WMC so what is wrong with the Media Library that it won't recognize them as movies all of a sudden. These are all digital copies from the store bought DVDs and Blurays.

Setting Up A Home Media Network Using Media Center And Media Extenders
I am trying to setup a media network for my new home that's being built.  What I want to accomplish is a network that can feed my 5 TVs live feeds or be able to record up to 4 or so TV shows at once.  But I wanted it all to come from one centeralized location.  I know that I can do this with Windows Home Server and Windows 7 Media Center and then I know that I need a media extender for each TV.  Other than that what else do I need?

Can I just have one cable box plugged into the Server and have that feed all the TVs or do I need one cable box for each TV and do I need a Tuner Card in the Server for each TV?

How many TV Cards can Windows 7 support at one time?  How many Media Extenders can support one TV Card?

I want to store my movies and music and pictures in this same server that I'm using for the live TV and DVR so what specs on the server do you recommend?

Media Center Freezes On Change Media File With Waiting To Finish Network I/O
I upgraded my Media Center computer to Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) some months ago and ever since the Media Center Application occasionally freezes. It seems to happen when there is a rapid change of what is played for example when a track is skipped.

Looking in resource monitor I can see that the in the wait chain for the service "svchost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation)" that it is waiting to finish network I/O and other processes seems to be waiting for this process.

I use DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev C)

Driver version: 2.1.6.0

The computer is part of homegroup.

Any suggestions on how to continue analyzing and resolving this problem? I thought I would try with a different network adapter but I would like to know if there is any config changes I might try first.

Media Center DVD Play Stutters, Media Player Doesn't
Playing a DVD via Media Center sees it pause (freeze) for a second or two every 10 minutes or so. No other apps are open at the time.

Closing WMC and playing the DVD in Media Player doesn't show this behaviour.

Booting into Vista 32 and then playing the DVD gives no pauses on either WMC or WMP.

Dual-boot Dell E520, ATI X1300 card, 2GB RAM, loads of HD space.  No other codecs than the Win7-supplied ones have been installed. The Paging file is set to a fixed 4 GB on a separate partition.

Media Player 12 / Media Center - Multiple Cds Albums Sorting In Library
I have some problems to sort the music files in the library.

If there is an album with more than one disc, the sorting is like that:

1 - track 1 CD1
1 - track 1 CD2
2 - track 2 CD1
2 - track 2 CD2
etc...

I would like more logical sorting like this:

1 - track 1 CD1
2 - track 2 CD1
etc...
1 - track 1 CD2
2 - track 2 CD2
etc...

Do you see what I mean ? It seems that WMP/WMC doesn't sort using the "disc number" tag of the file (as it should be).

Is there any way to sort it fine without creating 2 different albums for a 2 disc album ?

Problem With Default H.264 Codec In Media Player / Media Center
There is a problem with the new default H264 codec in Windows 7

I have around 380 DVDs ripped to H264 by using Xillisoft DVD Ripper (apple tv h264 profile) bit rate max 800, frame rate 25

Now in Vista media center all of these movies played just fine (using the Community Codec Pack)

Windows 7 default codec pack and only about 10 of the ripped films actually work, the rest of them are just a black screen, some play with sound, some dont play at all.

This is when I try and play them in Win7 Media Player or Media Center.

Now if I use Quicktime or another media player (VLC for instance) using the CCCP codec pack, they work perfectly fine in windows 7 (but still dont work in Win 7 Media Player or Media Center).

Some something is seriously screwed in the Microsoft codecs

Activation Key Will Not Work
I was installing the Windows 7 RC yesterday and skipped the activation key section, knowing that I could enter it again afterward and activate. That was a mistake; I woke up this morning and the computer had set its date to the year 7990 and was quite upset because it's pre-release version had expired. I changed the date back, of course. I tried entering in my product key using the "Activate Windows" section, and it just jumped straight to "This pre-release version of windows has expired."

So, I tried doing an upgrade install over it again so that I could enter the new product key. I entered it in this time during installation, and it still is whining that the copy of windows is not genuine, even if I try using the "Change Product Key" section or the console command that someone suggested here. Help? Is this going to require a fresh install?

Media Player And Media Center Cannot Play DVD
I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mapped Network Media Not Present In Media Center
Music stored on a mapped network drive does not appear on Media Center or Media Player.
The folder can be seen clearly in "libraries" and tracks in the mapped drive can be selected and play perfectly through Media Center but only one at a time. Also whilst playing, the backdrop is a grid of images of all of the albums in the "invisible" folder.

If I copy albums from the networked folder to c:users...My Music then add this folder to the libraries, then these albums show and play clearly in Media Center.

Help With Activation Code : Invalid Key
i recently installed the RC of windows 7 ultimate. the version is like 7600 er sumthin i dunno. im pretty computer savvy but everytime i generate a key from microsoft it says it is an invalid key and refuses to activate. any help with this would be great.

also, i installed the rc about a month after the downloads stopped, so i dont know if that would have caused the issue...and i installed the it via an iso image mounted onto a virtual drive, so it dont know if that would have also contributed to this.

Windows 7 Activation - Only 10 Times Per Key?
Will Windows 7 have the same activation protection as Vista? Only 10 activations per key? If the answer is yes, how many petition signatures would be needed to change this limit to a higher number like 20 or once a month? Some of us format our hard drives and switch back and fourth between OSs a lot.

Hide / Remove Activation Key - It Could Be Done - How ?
Recently on a site that explained how to install Windows 7 upgrade there was info on how to remove your Windows 7 Activation Key after activation.

The reason I want to do this is so that someone can't run Magic Jelly Bean and reveal my key. This happened before so that fix explaining hiding or removing it sounds great.

I've searched high and low and can't find this info anymore. Has anyone heard of how to do this?

Activation Error - Put The Product Key
I already had Windows Vista on my PC and Windows XP on my Laptop and bought Windows 7 Ultimate from my Students software supplier, assuming that I could install the software on the two computers. I installed the software on my Laptop first and it seemed to install OK and then later I installed it on my main PC but two weeks later I am getting a message on my Laptop saying that 'there is a problem with my Windows 7 Ultimate activation, please put the Product key in or buy another copy of the software' ?

I tried putting the software key in but to no avail and when I tried writing to Microsoft using my main PC, Microsoft's automated system could not recognise the product key I was putting in. Maybe the Students Edition of Windows 7 does not qualify for help from Microsoft, or something.

To say I am frustrated it to put it lighly, I had a valid version of Windows XP provided with my laptop and I bought a legal version of Windows Vista for my main PC but as an impecunious student I just cannot afford to spend too much on software and now it looks as though I will have to go back to Windows XP on my Laptop because I'm sure that Microsoft will not let me transfer my legal copy of Windows Vista to my laptop.

It is quite confusing to have two such different operating systems between my laptop, used at University and my home PC, which has a printer and various other goodies attached plus it is time consuming to install the new software or to uninstall it plus it is getting very expensive. Please tell me that I can use Windows 7 on my two PC's, laptop and PC or that I can transfer my copy of Windows Vista to my laptop.

Incidentally, my copy of Windows 7 was very late arriving and the Students software company who supplied it said that this was because many hundreds of copies of the software, including one with my name on it had been stolen and they had to cancel all of the old product keys and it took them more than 2 weeks to do this and send out new ones.

Upgrade Media And Previous OS Activation
When Upgrading windows (not asking about in place v.s. clean upgrade process) with the Upgrade Media does the qualifying OS have to be activated?  I have been seeing a lot of moderators stating that a requirement of the upgrade is that Windows XP must be installed and activated and setup must be run from within the OS.  however there are several scenarios that seem to contradict this.

Is this just speculation/rumor being stated as fact?  Of note, said moderators always steer clear of addressing windows 2000 which has no activation, the same for a Volume license copy of windows XP.  Is this a requirement for XP and newer, and has a totally different behavior for windows 2000?
