ASUS DRW-1814BLT Optical Drive Not Recognized While Installing

I currently have an ASUS DRW-1814BLT and when I try to install Windows 7, it ask me for drivers.  As far as I know, it doesn't exist. I tried installing it from Windows, doesn't work.  I tried from boot, doesn't work.  Is it hidden somewhere on the DVD or how can I resolve this ?  The drive can read, write and etc in Vista 64 without problem. E8400, P5K Deluxe, 2x2 ram.

ASUS DRW-1814BLT DVD-RW Drive Not Recognized
I'm trying to install either the 32bit and 64bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium via DVD onto my system. I am booting from the DVD and setup automicatically runs. The Windows 7 setup GUI loads and it allows me to choose the language settings and then I get a prompt for,

LOAD DRIVER

"A Required CD/DVD device driver is missing...."

My System is

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard

AMD Athlon 64FX-55

3GB RAM

ASUS DRW-1814BLT DVD-RW drive (SATA)

2 x Hitachi Deskstar 250GB HDD in Serial ATA RAID 0

I have tried multiple drivers but there is nothing on the ASUS website for the DRW-1814BLT only a firmware upgrade which I have done.

This is extremely frustrating as both the motherboard and DVD-RW driver are from ASUS but there doesn't seem to be any support for Windows 7 on the download site.

My system passes the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor Report

ASUS DRW-1608P2S DVD Writer Problem
I have installed Windows Home Premium. Device Manager sees my ASUS DRW-1608P2S DVD-RW, but it does not appear in My Computer and is therefore not accessible. Everything was OK before in Windows 7 RC. The ASUS now appears in Device Manager with a small exclamation mark with yellow background next to it.

When I click on 'driver', I get he message 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)." The only driver listed is cdrom.sys in system32drivers. I have uninstalled the device, and Windows has found it again, but says it could not find drivers for the device. This is strange, because no special drivers were needed for this DVD RW in Windows 7 RC.

When I try to upgrade the firmware, (as administrator, in XP compatibility mode etc etc) I get the message "available target is not found". Yet the DVD RW DOES appear in Device Manager, so Windows 7 at least knows of its existence. Any help would be appreciated, as everything else here is fine on this upgraded system.

PS The closest I got to a solution on looking around was advice to make some registry changes, but this was for Vista and XP only. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Optical Drive Problems
I recently installed windows 7 professional on my system and now my optical drive is acting weird.  The drive will run CDs just fine (I can install and rip. haven't tested burning), but it will have nothing to do with DVDs.  When I put a DVD in it, it doesn't do anything.  After a while, if I go to my computer and double click on the disk drive, the optical drive will eject the disk and say "Please insert disk".  I have looked in the device manager and it says the driver is working properly.  I have tried looking into the "regedit" and the upper and lower filters aren't there.

I have tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting so that windows installs them (no luck). I have also tried starting with the driver signature enforcement disabled but nothing happens. My ODD is a (SATA) Samsung Sh-S223Q in case you wanted to know. One thing that i noticed that I thought was odd was that my device manager had 2 drivers for my Optical Drive. They are HCB JGPYF*X SCSI CdRom Device and TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223Q ATA Device. I have a virtual drive (daemon tools lite) installed but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Optical Drive Issues
It seems as though my two optical dvd-rom & dvd-ram drives are working only intermittently, since loading windows 7 64 ultimate from vista 64 ultimate.

While there are many drivers that I have saved as downloads plus those that can be found online there are drivers that are only available via disk, so having the optical drives consistently function properly is of the utmost importance.

Anyone with any suggestions are solutions please let us all know your thoughts.

Thumbnails And Optical Drive Problem
I know how to disable thumbnails system wide and this is not what I want to do.

The problem my system is having is when I place a disc such as an SVCD in the drive and want to copy one of the files. When I go into the folder with the videos, Windows tries to make thumbnails of all the files or at least it tries to gather information on them. The problem is that since it's an optical disc, there is only one laser, so there is a very long explorer.exe freeze while it tries to do so. I guess it is reading a little of each file at a time and trying for all of them at once.

Is there a tweak or a setting I can change without affecting videos stored on the HDDs?

Optical Drive Disappears When Rebooting
Rebooting disappears the optical drive when attempting to view it by clicking on "Computer."  It also disappears from "devices."  However, shutting down and starting does not affect the system in any way.

Hence, when I'm instructed to reboot, I now simply shut down and start rather than reboot.  I haven't been able to find out the source of this problem.  You should know that this is a desktop with a very small form factor; i.e., mini ITX with an Atom and the optical drive is a slim laptop optical drive with an adapter for use on a desktop setup.

LG Optical Drive Disappears From Device List
I have a HTPC with dual boot WinXP and Win7 RC7100. I have a problem with my optical drive in Win7, but the problem does not occur in WinXP.

Problem Description:

On booting up the system the optical drive works fine and appears in My Computer and the Device manager. At some point (usually within three minutes of bootup) the drive disappears from My Computer and the Device manager – it just vanishes…

There are no errors or windows explaining why it happens, there are no errors shown in the event logs either around the time it occurs.

Once the drive “disappears” the tray cannot be opened by the button on the drive and it isn’t redetected if you run the search for new devices gizmo.

If you just leave it in that state, periodically the drive light flashes and there is a clicking noise. In the event logs it shows an error “drive not ready”. The error repeatedly appears sometimes every few seconds for a few minutes. It then stops and might not do it again for hours, or might start again in a few minutes.

Whilst all this is going on, the drive still doesn’t show in device manager and you cant eject the tray by the switch…

I would suspect a faulty drive, but as I said above it works completely fine in WinXP.

I have tried stripping the machine of any added software, which didn’t take long as all I have is Kaspersky AV, PowerDVD and software for the LCD on my Antec case.

The drive in question is an LG GGC-H20L (Sata CD/DVD Writter, Blu-Ray Reader).

I have tried searching on the net for others with the same problem as me, but surprisingly mostly I found people saying their same model drive works fine on Win7.

On the other hand the couple of people I did find with similar problems both stated that LG had refused to help them saying they wouldn’t support Win7 until it was released. The closest thread to my problem I could find on here was this one:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/1a40914b-d90d-4d0f-b228-942d8880218e

At the moment I can only see a few options:

1. Buy another drive from a different manufacturer and hope for the best.
2. Wait for Win7 to be released and hope that LG fix the problem with a driver update.

Any advice or ideas on how to solve this without resorting to the two options above would be much appreciated.

It's just a nuisance to forget, double click, get the error(because I have WMP disabled in local security policy) then right click on the drive icon and click Open. Life would be easier if I could just double-click it!! Anyone know the secret?

Upgrade Problems From Vista, No Optical Drive Detected
I am having major problems upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista. I have an HP dv3 with Windows Vista 64-bit. I am using the HP upgrade disc with the upgrade option. I first ran into problems when the Windows 7 disc told me that some components would not be installed properly, namely that I needed to upgrade my keyboard filter driver.

I did what I was told and when I tried to re-start the upgrade process the disc told me that I would need to re-start my computer. I did that and when it re-started, a message from HP popped up saying that my optical drive was no longer connected and that I needed to re-connect it in order for the upgrade to continue. So now my optical drive is not reading anything and I do not know what has happened or how to even fix it.

BSOD Installing 64-bit: Asus M3N78-EM
I'm building a new pc with a Asus M3N78-EM mb and AMD Phenom 9600. I tried installing Windows 7 Ultimate (Bld 7000) 64 bit and was getting the BSOD around the point of expanding files during the install. I tried a couple times, same results. I then updated to the latest bios for the mb and tried installing again. The install goes much further, during the part of "completing install" i get the BSOD.

I tried 3 more times, everytime BSOD around the same part of the install. Can someone tell me if this is a mb bios issue, a bad cpu issue or a windows 7 64-bit issue? I tried installing Windows 7 beta 32-bit, and this installed successfully on the first try. This is nothing fancy with my new system, 4 gb (1066) GSkill memory, all default bios settings, sata hd's (non raid).

Problem Installing On A Asus M4a78 Computer
I have just built a computer and I am trying to install Windows 7. I already installed Windows 7 on another PC (on a partition to be precise) and it works fine. I used the same DVD (so it should be a good one) but when I try to boot from it on the new computer, it is apparently trying to do exactly that, boot from teh DVD and not install it to the hard drive.

It says it is copying windows files, then goes to the "Starting Windows" screen and stays there.I thought I needed to format the drive first so I created a NTFS partition using GParted. No help, it still does the same thing.Any suggestions?

I am even downloading a new copy of the installation file, to try from a fresh copy.

My configuration:MoBo Asus M4a78 PlusAMD 42004G DDR2 800MhzATI Radeon HD4550HD Western Digital 320GThanks

Installing Win7 On Asus K8V SE Deluxe
I have been working on this for about 5 hours now, searching many forums, downloading drivers, changing Bios settings, etc... but nothing is working. I realize there is a compatibility issue with KV8 and Win7 but a guy at Asus said it might be able to be fixed with certain drivers. I have been fooling around with VIA and Fasttrak 378.

My hard drive is working fine as I am using it right now, but when I get to the Win7 installation to choose where to save it, it does not detect a hard drive. This happened when I tried to install XP pro 64 a while ago as well. How can I make it appear? My system is:

ABS built
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
2gb G.Skill Ram
160gb Maxtor SATA hd

I guess I'm confused as to why my hard drive is even RAID configured being that there is only 1.

Installing Win 7 On RAID 0 Asus P6T SE
I have an Asus P6T SE Motherboard with 6gb RAM, Core I7 etc and 3 x Samsung 1.5tb disks. Purchased specifically for RAID config. I wish to RAID 0 2 of the disks and then use the third to back up data.

I initially set up the rig with RAID 5, it was a disaster for me (using the built in Intel sotrage manager) as I had a slight error and it was still rebuilding the array some 3 days later so I decided to cut my losses and go to RAID 0.

The problem I now have is that despite Windows 7 seeming to install correctly, when it comes to the reboot section (just before 'completing installation) the machine cannot find a bootable device!!! I am removing the USB key at this stage to stop it from starting all over again.

it reports 'reboot and select proper device, or select boot media etc'

I have already tried

- Destroying and rebuilding the array with different sizes in case Windows 7 struggles with large boot partitions

- Resetting BIOS to defaults

Even reverting to an IDE set up and this still wont boot!

Can you help guys, I cant see how the PC could have been corrupted at a pre OS level that would stop the disks from working as I have configured. But nothing would surprise me.

CD Drive Not Recognized After Reboot
I'm using a Dell laptop Studio XPS 1640. Ok, I was about to upgrade to Windows 7 and it listed a couple of programs that needed to be deleted, so I uninstalled them. The 2nd or 3rd time I was required to restart my computer, it froze at the "Shutting Down..." screen for about 20 minutes. I waited and waited and decided to power down. I turned it back on, and it didnt say Windows was not shut down properly, so i figured it was ok.

However when I booted back up, I was going to eject and re-insert the upgrade CD. I hit eject, nothing happens. Hit eject again, nothing happens. I go to Computer to try and view the CD thats in my CD Drive....NOTHING SHOWS UP! MY CD drive is now UNRECOGNIZED by my computer! Now I cant complete the upgrade. Not to mention, the upgrade made me uninstall itunes and my virus protection, saying a new version will be installed automatically after the upgrade.

The only way I got to install 7 was empty a partition on my ide drive. This OS does not look ready for prime time, not even a little.

Can't Get NEW Hard Drive To Be Recognized
I have THREE Hard Drives.

1) XP. Old PATA hard drive

2) Windows 7 SATA

3) New Hard Drive (E; with program files, back up, images, music.

Sorry, I had to edit this message as every time I went to type E colon, slash, it gave a smiley face. so the E; = E colon, slash to indicate E assigned hard drive letter, the new hard drive.

When I boot to XP with the new hard drive (E; shows up fine.

When I disconnect XP and boot to Windows 7, the new hard drive (E; shows that it installs fine (lower right in windows, shows that the OS see's it and says it installed fine), yet I cannot see it.

The configuration that does not work is two (2) SATA drives, one with Windows 7, the other, the new hard drive.

To be sure, I disconnected the Windows 7, connected XP (PATA) and booted again, sure enough, the new hard drive (E; is fine and shows up.

I then disconnect and attach the Windows 7 hard drive with the new hard drive, (I even tried moving the SATA cable around) and Windows 7 boots fine, shows me that it installs the newly found hard drive (E; but does not show up on my computer.

Now, here is what may, or may not be a bug.

The new hard drive was formatted NTFS in WINDOWS XP, the drive letter assigned was E:, when I boot to Windows 7, I have a Virtual Clone Drive which also has the letter E: assigned to it. Could it be possible that Windows 7 does not know what to do since the Virtual Hard Drive was there first and therefore, doesn't show the new hard drive when running Windows 7?

I have tried everything I can to get it to be seen in Win 7 to no avail. Again, it works fine in XP, but does not show up in Windows 7.

Has anyone heard of this problem before? Do I need to rename, or assigned a different hard drive letter to E:? If so, how do I do that?
