View 5 RepliesA recent TV guide update appears to have resulted in a loss of all channels from 32 to 71. I have COMCAST (Portland, OR) and for over 1.5 years my guide updates have always shown Ch's 1 - 71. For the last 48 hours the upper channels are not even listed. My TV can still access those channels, so they haven't been dropped. I've rebooted & downloaded the most recent guide.
I've re-ran TV Setup & elected "No Guide" then rebooted & tried again, electing to use the guide, but still same results. I've been searching/reading 100's post trying to get an idea why this is suddenly happening and how to resolve. So, the guide is downloading & displaying channels, but not channels 32-71. Oh, I can manually add and access the missing channels, which will work in a pinch, but of course the channel lineup shows "no data available."
I recently got a Dell computer running Vista. I have a Hauppauge 1250 internal tuner card installed and digital signal running through coax from a spliter into my PC. I know that I am getting a signal because when I run WinTV (the application that comes with the Hauppauge tuner) I am able to watch all the digital channels. However, when I try to watch live tv on the media center, all I get is static. I tried consulting with customer support at Hauppauge up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedNew to the forum but just installed vista 64 the other night so im sure i'll be here a lot! Now i've been looking a lot into how to play AVI files through the media center, and it seems everyone uses the FFDShow program. So, after installing vista64, drivers, and all updates (except SP1), and configuring the media center I then installed:
-Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package x64 SP1
-FFDShow
-MediaControl 5.4.4x64.......
Is there a way to find and play music from itunes (i.e. m4a & m4p) in media center?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been using Media Center for XP and then Vista for a few months. Due to a random pause issue that I can't track down, I've built another MCE-HTPC and installed Vista x64. The install of Vista and hardware went about as smooth as it can get. BUT... now that I've installed my codecs and such, MCE won't play any videos. These are videos that 32-bit XP MCE and Vista MCE had no issues playing before. In fact I can even load Windows Media Player and it will play the same videos with out a problem. But once I load MCE, I get the "can not locate codec" and it refuses to play. Since I've not had problems in the past... I is there a cache or database of some kind that Vista32 might have left that now Vista64 is trying to read and it's now unable to load the videos?... also, I did update my codecs to newer versions as well... is it possible that Vista32 had "named" codecs list and now Vista64 is trying to find the same codec name... only it's changed?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to play video or audio files on Media Center through the TV via HDMI, the video and audio is very laggy. It also sounds sort of static like. When I play CD's or DVD's the problem is resolved. Also, when I unplug the HDMI, the problem is resolved. Also, when I minimize Media Center, the problem is resolved. It only happens when the HDMI is plugged in and Media Center is Maximized. I have searched all over and have not been able to find a solution to this problem. I have tried changing the HDMI cords and changing the HDMI input on the TV. I've also tried to use a different TV and no luck.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was thinking about creating a user that only has access to the Media Center. First thing i did it, configure the media center to boot with windows!
Now I need to:
1- know how configure him to open in the "Only Media Mode".
2- do something to block everything, but some games and 3 sites! gmail, yahoo and hattrick.com
To make it clear, i want to configure a user that may only use the media center, some games and access does 3 sites and nothing else!
Media center keeps popping up, I have not been able to find a way to disable it, so that I can use the program only when I want. It is very tiresome to keep have it. open when ever I pop a cd or dvd in to my drive. I would like some control over which program I use to view/listen to the media I have, and not have one pop up automatically.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have vista home premium 64 with media center. don't have any desire to hook up the computer to a tV or surround sound system, so is there really any reason to open up and install media center service? I burn cds, do some computer studio recording, sometimes plug a phonograph (remember those?) or a cassette into the computer to record. is there anything in media center that makes those experiences better? when i record off of vinyl i have to set the recording level down to practically zero to record or otherwise the signal is too hot using my usb turntable. it's really almost zero plus a tick or nothing at all. will media center do anything for this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got the following message when playing DVDs on Vista home premium with Windows Media Player. The same problem happens to media center. Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. I can play those DVDs on PowerDVD or VLC player. I installed K-Lite codec. It still doesn't work. It looks like it is not codec problem.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi can't get media player to play dvd's it tells me to ''lower my resolution'' which is set at 1680 x 1050. i do this and nothing i take the resolution all the way to 800x600 and nothing gives me the same message so i surmized that their was another problem. I recently just upgraded my motherboard and ram and ended up having to rebuy vista as my computer was previously factory built.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was using Media Center to watch video that was recorded through media center. Everything was fine for a few months then a couple of months ago the sound went away in media center for those videos. The media center still plays music and DVD's fine it just does not play viedo recorded off of the capture card in my computer anymore.
I am able to play those same video's through window's media player however.
Is anyone familiar with this?
My hard drive crashed and I had to install a new one, reinstalled Windows Vista, but Media Centre is nowhere to be found.
Searched for %SystemRoot%ehomeehshell.exe as barman58 suggested.
However, the following error message pops up "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. Contact your system administrator."
Media center is freezing up when I try to scroll search through the movies or music videos. It says it needs to update something at the beginning, but when I click the OK button the little circle just sits and spins and never does anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't have Vista installed yet, but I want to set it up with an internal dual-tuner card, probably this one and use it as an ATSC DVR for OTA shows.

1) Can a Vista Ultimate computer running Media Center as a DVR be set to automatically wake up from S3 and start recording, then go back to sleep when it is done? I don't want to leave it running all day when on vacation just to record shows.
2) My Dell Dimension 4700 is a P4 3.0GHz, 3GB RAM, one 250GB SATA II 3.0Gbpsdrive for Vista to be installed and one 500GB SATA II 3.0Gbps for the recordings, with an eVGA NVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB video card with dual LCD displays attached.. I believe that to be a reasonable system. Do you?
3) My network is all Gigabit...or at least it was until I had to pull the PCIe Gigabit NIC from the Dell to make room for the Hauppauge card. There is only one PCIe slot available, so that leaves me with the onboard 10/100 unless I get a PCI Gigabit NIC. For streaming an HDTV recording to an"Extender for Windows Media Center" device for playback onto an HDTV, how much bandwidth does it gobble?
My OS is Vista Home Premium and I have been trying to set up my x box 360 as an extender using a wired connection. I have the code from the TV. I use the Windows Live OneCare Firewall but I cannot get the set up wizard to recognise the extender and I've run out of ideas as to what might be the cause.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy OS is V-home premium 64bit. I've owned this Dell for about 3 weeks and have never been able to open Media Center. When clicked, I get this error message:
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727mscorwks.dll could not be loaded. I had a Dell Tech log into my computer to find "patches," etc. To no avail. His only advice was to restore back to new.
By the way, opening ehshell.exe gives me the exact same message. I thought I had found the correct patch re: framework applications in the Win Knowledge Base. After a complex set of downloads I finally ended up with the same error message. Is there something I can do short of full restore?
I'm still totally at a loss as to how to fix my media Center. It seems that whenever I watch a video in media center in full screen mode it works fine until the play/pause taskbar at the bottom of the screen auto minimizes then it gets extremely choppy and looks like its having some sort of seizure. Yet if I move the mouse on screen again to bring up the taskbar again it runs smoothly once more.
Alternatively when the screen is not maximised if I dont move the mouse at all it runs smoothly but the second I bring the mouse onto the mediacentre screen the same thing happens and the video goes all black until the taskbar auto hides. This problem occurs while watching a movie or live tv in media center, yet if i watch the exact same video footage in media player the problem does not occur. I've updated all drivers (taking extra care to make sure I have the newest graphics card drviers) and installed a shark codec set in the hopes that might offer some assistance.
I have Vista Ultimate 64x bit. And i recently just found out why my files weren't play in it. ( because i didn't have 64x bit codecs). That fixed that problem. I was hoping it would fix the problem i was having with the internet TV beta program, but it didn't. When ever I play files, i get a black screen and nothing plays. I then goto the now playing option, and it says unable to play clip. The MSNBC TV thing works, but not the Internet TV program. I am not sure what the problem is. But i do have codecs installed.

1. By using the upgrade option for Vista Premium, does the hard drive get reformatted?
2. If not, do the recovery files for XP in D: remain?
3. Or do the recovery files for XP in D: get overwritten?
I was told by HP that the files could not be accessed because they are a different file system. As far as I know both operating systems use NTFS.

I can receive four 1080i HDTV signals using amplified HDTV rabbit ears from Radio Shack. I have a Hauppauge WinTV (HVR 1250). WinTV is able to detect and record OTA HDTV signals. On the contrary, Vista Media Center TV Setup is unable to detect an OTA signal. When I specify that I use an antenna, it only knows about analog and not DTV. The guide that is downloaded does not list any DTV channels.
