the search function in vista no longer works - whenever i type anything into a search box it just sits there - it's not that it cant find a file, it doesnt do a search at all. ive tried: sfc, system restore, turned indexing, windows search on/ off also tried this: Index - Windows Search Service but nothing works
Apparently the Windows Search Indexing thing stopped working sometime this morning and now I can't seem to fix it. Symptoms: systems slows down and takes its sweet time while deleting files/folders and creating files/folders, Windows Search service doesn't want to start and keeps giving me the "Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified". I already tried the Tutorial but that didn't work. I created the Config folder in the proper place and copied the 2 necessary files but still no solution. So short of re-installing windows is there anything I can do to fix this?
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything. Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.
Thus far I've experienced: "Internet Explorer has stopped working" "Windows Explorer has stopped working" "Word has stopped working" "Sherlock Holmes Nemesis (Adventure Company) has stopped working" "Outlook has stopped working" "Acid 4.0 (Sony) has stopped working" "Acid 6.0 (Sony) has stopped working" "Sound Forge (Sony) has stopped working"
Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
For quite a while I have been getting the message "Windows explorer has stopped working".whenever I try to right click a file in a file listing. I have been working around this problem but I'm getting fed up with it.
I got this problem in vista home premiun since I installed service pack 2. It happens when I click the right button of the mouse, I was told that it could be because I installed some application but I didn't find the culprit. Anyway, I want to execute command prompt as administrator and since I can not do it from the all start menu with a right click button, is there another way from a command line??. Actually I need to make some changes to HOSTS file and in order to do that I need to edit it as administrator.
For four days every time I click on Windows Mail I get an immediate message: "The application has requested Runtime termination" followed by "Windows Mail has stopped working and will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I get no solution.ironically, I can access my email on Comcast website, so my POP settings are OK. Never ever had this problem.
I had problems with the "windows sidebar stopped working" messages appearing on a regular basis. I have only windows stock gadgets in the sidebar. A while ago I even removed one gadget at the time to see if it would stop crashing but it didn't. Yesterday I reformatted my computer because of another problem I had and one of the first things that happened was "windows sidebar stopped working". It happened again today. I still have almost only drivers and windows updates installed so what can be causing this problem?
After Update from Windows Update 090115, my IE7 has stopped working and responding. The IEUser.exe process is active but no window. Tried to run the IE in secure mode and reset IE7 but nothing happens. I've installed Security update for Vista KB958687 Windows tool remove of ... january 2009 kb960714 I don't know if it is these updates that crashes IE7.But I think it was after these it happened. Installed Firefox to be able to surf, but I want IE7 to be fixed. How can I fix IE7? /Vista Ultimate swedish 32 bit
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Quicktime was working perfectly until yesterday when I tried to install the newest version of iTunes but the installation failed (I received "Cannot Open Key:"error) When the iTunes installation failed, it took Quicktime with it. I navigated to the key in question and found 3 iterations of it. I set the permissions to full and tried again but every time as the program installation neared completion, I would see an icon for Data Execution Prevention appear in my system tray. I have tried to set the Quicktime installer to be ignored by DEP but no luck. I also get the "Windows Installer Stopped Working" Box some of the time and when I click on more details it seems to point to MSIEXEC.EXE. I have visited Apple's forums, COMPLETELY uninstalled Quicktime, iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Software Update and Apple Applicaton Support several times per their instructions in these articles I would like to have both Quicktime and iTunes on my PC but if that is not possible, I need to get Quicktime back by itself as a program I use often (Starry Night Pro 6) and paid $150.00 for won't run without Quicktime 7.0 + (I was able to install Quicktime 6.5 successfully but Starry Night won't run with it). Please help as I have already spent about 10 hours working on this! I am unable to use System Restore to roll back to before I tried to install iTunes-there are about 20 restore points but they are all after I tried to install iTunes.
I've been having this problem with my Windows Vista Ultimate x64 when waking from sleep mode. I just bought a HP Pavillion laptop a few weeks ago and everything was working fine. But the only problem is, MSN messenger keeps on going: Windows Live messenger has stopped working every time I open it. But I just ignored it. The next day, I couldn't download anything from my computer. It will just pop up and ask me where to save it then after that, it dissapears and my downloads are no where. Then I fixed it by installing IE 8 (I'm not sure how I could've install that...). Now my IE stops working almost everytime. I can only open the one that says: Internet Explorer (64-bit). Can anyone tell me what's the problem with my computer and how to fix it?
After installing 2 updates the USB ports on my docking station stopped working (they still work on the PC). The updates were: 1) Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353) and 2) Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP kit (3.03.0000.2). I have tried system restore but it failed - said it didn't restore. (this always happens - any idea why?) The Cypress update does not show up on Programs & Features, so I am unable to uninstall it.
As near as I can tell, I have WMP version 11.0.6002.18111 installed on my Vista Home Premium system. I haven't used it in a while, so I'm not sure when the problem arose, but whenever I try to play a file or even just open the player, I'm informed it has stopped working with the following information provided:
I can't track down the correct files at the MS site to reinstall, and I'd rather not use System Restore since I'm not sure how far back to go or how many things would be undone.
i open windows media player and putsomething to play, a small windows pops up and says that windows mediaplayer has stopped working and it says its looking for a solution. After a while it says " a problem caused this program to stop working correctly, Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." then it closes the program with my consent. This never happened to me on my xp pc which had WMP 11. This is happening on my new vista pc that's just a few days out of the box and i even have full norton anti-virus protection. So is there any way to fix this problem or do i have to use some other program?
I am running Windows Vista-Home Premium Edition-X64 bit-SP2. I am trying to play a game and I keep getting "Windows Media Projector has stopped working". I just seem to have trouble with this game only. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
I don't know if my Threadtitle fits the exact English message (doubt it) but that's my Problem. Since the start of my PC today my Windows Explorer stopped working, everytime i click on Computer or Control Panel. It always just restarts the Explorer and i got the same again. By searching the Error via Google i found 1000s of Topics about this Issue
I get the following error message when I try to open windows media center: "Windows Media Center has stopped working'' and I can not open it. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I tried doing system restore and it doesn't help. I am able to open Windows Media Player though, and can play DVD's and CD's through there, but can not open media center, to access the tv features.
I am getting the windows explorer stopped working/restarting loop upon computer startup. I followed a suggestion to check "eventvwr" from the task manager and it seems as though the fault is associated with MP4splitter.ax My problem (or at least I think my problem) is that I cannot locate this file to delete it. A simple search of the computer does not bring it up. I already tried the "change from thumbnails to icons" thing in the control panel but can't seem to get to the correct screen it in time.
Windows Media Center worked before, but a few weeks ago after viewing a recorded TV (maybe a hour or so) show it would crash. Now when it opens it crash right away.

The WindowsKey-Tab display the windows to change function has stopped working on my Sony Vaio VGB SZ670N laptop. I only noticed this recently after I installed SP1 for Vista Business.
I have recently been experiencing big problems with my new medion notebook. i'm not sure why, but only 3 weeks after i bought it many programs crash and give me the following error message: Windows media player has stopped working. etc. My wireless internet button wasn't working till i re-boted, system restore won't start when i click it. Some videos wont open or will crash.
The Deal is everytime i got to screensaver, just to try to open the screensaver menu, this pops up. "Window host process (Rundll32) has stopped working." And somehow i think the default screensaver is set because after i leave the computer alone for a while it goes blank...
running Vista Home Premium x32...I turn on my Toshiba Laptop A305D-S6848 and I get the message that BOTH Windows Defender User Interface and Toshiba's Service Station have stopped working and need to close. It says it's checking for solutions (finds none of course)In addition when I go to use the flash cards it says Toshiba Flash CArds has stopped working shuts them down too. I read to go into the control panel and Performance Info & tools to fix that, but doing tells me that "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and it restarts, but won't let me access the Performance.... and I also can't open up any picture files with windows photo gallery because that also causes explorer to restart. I HAD fixed that, but now it's doing it again... and no, the images are not corrupted. I thought maybe I had a virus or something, but norton found nothing, and neither did adaware. I would run Defender, but it won't work... it just gives me the user interface message and crashes.
