Every time I plug in my iPod I get this at the bottom right...When I close out of that I also get this in the middle of my screen...I have restarted my computer and tried different USB ports. Nothing shows up in "Computer" about a removable device.

when I tried to connect to Itunes from my computer the device was not automatically recognized by Itunes. Instead I got Vista's Autoplay menu which gave me the following three options:
- Import pictures using windows
- Open Device Using Windows Explorer
- Take no action
When I go to the device manager and I look at the properties of my Ipod (under Portable Devices) I found that the Device Assembly Description is Digital Still Camera. Consistent with this when I look at the Ipod at My Computer it shows an icon of a camera. This issue has happened now with two different Ipod Touch devices, but does not happen with other Ipod models (nano or Video). how to change the device properties?
I'm troubleshooting a friends computer and can'tseem to get it working.Basically, he's running Vista Home Prem 32bit. He just bought a new Canon MP480 inkjet printer and everytime he plugs it into his laptop he gets the "USB Device Not Recognized". I tested his printer and cable on my laptop (Vista Ultimate 64bit) and it IDs the printer and tries to install just fine. We're both running SP1 and I just did a double check and I we're both fully up-to-date on Windows update.I've tried uninstalling the USB hardware and then doing new install of the Intel chipset drivers.I've tried "forcing" the driver install using "driver update", but Vista just comes back and says "Driver for "unknown device" currently has the best driver confused I've tried draining the laptops power and I've tried a "driver inf cache" delete thing as well.
I have been using a Trust 7 Port USB Hub with Vista SP1, using the built in Vista driver, without issue. However, Vista has suddenly started to report this has 'USB Device Not Recognized'. The hub works with XP and other USB devices work fine when plugged into the same port. I have tried deleting the infcache.1 file as suggested in other threads but no joy.

The wireless keyboard/mouse is in a USB port right next to it and that works. I even unplugged that thinking maybe it was a "power" issue. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a SanDisk 16gb cruzer that is easily recognized in my XP Pro machines and was for a brief while on my 2 Vista Ultimate machines. A few weeks ago, my 2 Vista Machines stop recognizing it. If I go to device manager, I can see it listed as a disk drive. To get it to work I scroll down to USB Mass Storage Device and disable/enable it and it pops up and all is good. If I look in Computer Mgmt /Disk Mgmt, it shows up as unallocated so it does not get assigned a driver letter. If I boot the PC with the usb drive inserted it works fine.
I called Sandisk technial support and they said it was "Vista problem" because the drive works in XP and in a friend's computer also running Vista. Can one delete all USB devices in Vista without doing a complete reload of Vista. Maybe setting all USB paramters back to that after a clean install would help?
A complete computer backup (80 GB hard drive running Vista Ultimate) was done to an external USB (Maxtor 500GB). To do a complete restore, is there a way to have the USB drive recognized as a boot up device or does this type of restore have to be done through DVD?

If I look under 'computer', C is my original drive, D is the recovery drive & E is the DVD/CD drive. No other drives are listed. Device Manager reports the drive is working properly.

Can not get my HP 7400 scanner to work after upgrading to Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Not the hardware - works fine under XP pro using same hardware configuration. Did a clean install, installed motherboard BIOS updates, scanner BIOS updates, Vista updates and the correct driver from HP. The scanner installed and Device Manager says device is working properly. I'm in China where their electrical supply is 220V. I am using my laptop to charge my stepson's IPod. However, he is sometimes at his father's house where he only has access to a desktop which is using the 220V electrical supply. I do not know much about it as it is not mine, but the problem is the audio was cutting out and now there is nothing. The computer is not recognizing any type of audio device installed. I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.

When I connect my iPod to my computer, it brings up a message in iTunes saying, "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
I have tried both of these solutions several times, and keep getting the same message. I called Apple and they told me to try it on a different computer, so I tried it on my work laptop, which has XP and it syncs with the iPod without a problem.
I have seen on the Vista blog about a problem involving ejecting the device corrupting the iPod, but I do not have that issue.

If you ask me, this is grounds for a class action suit against MS for releasing an OS that was not ready and causes damage to one of the most popular hardware peripherals in the world. There should be a warning that comes with all Vista packages and Vista-loaded computers.
I had been running Vista Ultimate x64 for a few months and recently found that I can only use the original USB mouse?! Installation of any USB mouse would show a new "USB Human Interface Device" in Device Manager but it just won't work. Installation of the very same model of my original mouse didn't work neither. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am user of vista 64 bit ultimate until I upgraded to iPod touch. Touch is not recognized by vista (64bit) and says I need a 64 bit iTunes s/we. This has really put me in a dilemma. I use dual boot with WINXP Pro and Vista 64 bit ultimate. I have been using the dual boot to XP occasionally for using my digital camera as there are no 64 bit vista drivers for it. My iPod touch works fine under XP and now I have to use the XP all the time to use iTunes/iPod touch. Anyone has any thoughts/clues on when there will be support for vista 64 bit from apple? Options I can considering are to re-install 32 bit version of vista which will solve the iPod problem; I guess MS will not allow me to dual boot 32 bit and 64 bit on the same machine?
