Synaptics Woes

Aug 8, 2009

Recently got an Acer Aspire 5535 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium, with a Synaptics Pointing Device mousepad thingy.

But I noticed that everytime I'm in Internet Explorer 8 using thhe snaptic thiing, the browser pages either shrink or grow!

Somehow the act of swiping my finders on the mousepad thing activates the zoom level in IE8. It seems to do it when I have 2 fingers on the pad. (Which I use both hands most times.) When I try to duplicate it... I can't figure out exactly what I'm doing to cause it. And I can sometimes make it happen... sometimes not.

I also noticed that if I swipe around while on my desktop with 2 hands... I can get the icons to grow or shrink!

I went to the website and downloaded new drivers for it, and poked around in it's configurations & settings... but I really don't understand them all.

It's getting really old fast when I try to manuever around a webpage and all of a sudden it's zoom level drops down to 10%!

Activation Woes With MS Support

Mar 23, 2008

So I paid for a retail version of Vista Ultimate Upgrade the day it came out, upgrading from XP PRO. Everything was fine. One day my Vista install starting giving me BSOD constantly and loss of audio so I finally after much advice did a re-install of Vista, clean this time. After hours and hours of work, reinstalling all of my programs and customizing everything again, it came time to re-activate windows. I went ahead and said activate online.....no dice, it says my key is already in use. I read the forums here and everyone said go activate over the phone....again no dice, two phone calls to Indian spekaing reps and they could not get me activated saying I would have to call MS Support. I called MS Support and they rudely said I am out of luck, I didn't re-install XP first before I fixed my Vista install...my key is good but only if I upgraded, which I did on the initial install by the way....I don't even have my XP disk anymore.......

Synaptics Touchpad V 6.2 Quit Working

Apr 23, 2008

I have an Acer Aspire 5100. Mostly it works good with Vista Home Premium w/updates except the new SP1. Sometime ago the touchpad quit working and I just lived with it until today when I had a little time to investigate. In Device Manager it says the device is working properly. It also say its a touchpad on PS/2 port using IRQ12. I downloaded the latest driver suite from syaptics.com (5.2MB for the Vista 32 bit version) and ran it after disabling the device, enabling the device, uninstalling the current driver, restarting and having Vista reinstall the old drivers with no luck.

However, after running the new driver suite (an .exe file) and restarting Vista, the device showed disabled. When I enabled it - the touchpad worked momentarily (about 5 or 6 seconds). Every time I disable or enable it, it responds and works for about 5 or six seconds and then quits. No option to change the port or IRQ setting as they are 'grayed out'.

Synaptics Pointing Device Failure

May 27, 2008

Have an HP9740, just a few months old, with Vista Home Premium. On start-up I sometimes get a message that the SPD has ceased to function and the prog. will close. The pad continues to work, but not the scroll function. Re-starting restores it, but it will often fail again. At other times it works fine. Would be very grateful for any ideas as to what is wrong. It first happened around the time I was installing a codec pack, WinRar, Veoh and the like. Could this have interfered with the Synapics device?I know I can use the arrows to scroll, but I find this failure very annoying. but must point out that I am largely clueless when it comes to the technical aspects of computers.
