when i use media center on vista prem and open folders with music and video the center says that the folders are empty, but these folders are not empty and the files can be played with media player 11....anyone know what's up with this????????
View 4 RepliesWhen I try to play video or audio files on Media Center through the TV via HDMI, the video and audio is very laggy. It also sounds sort of static like. When I play CD's or DVD's the problem is resolved. Also, when I unplug the HDMI, the problem is resolved. Also, when I minimize Media Center, the problem is resolved. It only happens when the HDMI is plugged in and Media Center is Maximized. I have searched all over and have not been able to find a solution to this problem. I have tried changing the HDMI cords and changing the HDMI input on the TV. I've also tried to use a different TV and no luck.
View 6 Replies View RelatedLast week I recieved a new Dell Studio Slim 540s Desktop factory equipped with a Hauppauge 1250 TV tuner. The computer is running Vista SP1 Ultimate 64 bit operating system. I went through the set up instructions and found that the Live TV video and audio being feed to my 47" LCD screen TV by Windows Media Center was choppy. BlueRay disc, DVD and music file playback are all fine. I uninstalled the ATI Radeon HD 3450 video card and connected the HDMI cable directly to the HDMI cable outlet on the motherboard and I still had choppy video and audio. While the video card was uninstalled I attached a 20' flat panel LCD monitor to the motherboards VGA port using the monitors VGA cable and still had the problem. Only Live TV through Windows Media Center is problematic.....................
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery part of the Media Center works in regards to Video & Audio. The live tv app works, I can play recorded tv, play CD's DVD's, mp3's through my music, everything works. What does not work but it used to is the XMradio app within media center. I select the app, I log in to my account, I select Listen Now, I see the channel line up, I select a channel and it says "playing" but there is no sound.
I know most of the apps within Media Center use Windows Media Player. Launching WMP on it's own and testing what it does and does not do, everything works here also. However there is no way to play XM radio directly through WMP. I don't use the XM app within media center too often but if I had to guess, it may have stopped working correctly after the install of SP1 but I am not certain.
I have uninstalled & re-installed my sound card drivers as well as found an update. I don't think it is the sound card drivers as all other sound applications work. I think that there may be some association with the XM app and WMP that is missing or corrupt however I can find no information as to how it actually works or what file or reg entry has the configuration.
I have a Sony DSC-W290 digital camera that take HD video in 720P with the extension of "MP4". I can play the files on my computer with QuickTime player, but when I try to play them with Windows Media Center on the same PC, it says "Cannot play video. One or more codecs required to play this content cannot be found." The first time I tried to play these in Media Center, it downloaded a codec first before attempting to play, but it still cannot play them. How can I make Media Center play these video files?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen playing XM radio from within Vista Media Center, I select XM radio from selection screen, I log in, I see the channel lign up, I select my Xm channel, and it says it is playing. However, there is no audio. Everything else that used Video or Audio works correctly within Vista Media Center and Windows Media Player. Live TV, Recorded TV, CD's DVD's, online media all play with sound. It is only XM radio from within Media center that does not have audio. I don't use the application everyday but I know it did work prior to installing SP1. I have a new rig (1 month old), and I installed SP1 about 2 weeks ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my sound card drivers and well as found an update. I believe there is an association between the XM radio app and the Media player that may be missing or corrupt.

My main PC in my office has 6TB of drive space. It stores about 200 DVD's of my 1000 collection. I have 4 XBOX 360's in my home and my home is completely wired in cat6.
The movies are stored as mpegs so the 360 units can stream them. I use Media Center with MyMovies2 for the collection interface. I was never happy with the picture quality and loss of bonus features with the mpegs. So it was time to build a killer streamer. The HTPC I just built , specs below, is to stream from the 6TB PC as well as play any discs I have not ripped yet. MyMovies2 also has the ability to stream Blu-Ray and HD-DVD ISO files when used in conjunction with Power DVD, AnyDVD and Daemon Tools.

Currently the Asus P5Q-EM is running Vista 64, MyMovies2(client), AnyDVD, Daemon Tools and Power DVD 7.3.
If you open up available HDMI Audio Devices I have 2. One is the Intel that Actually works and the other is a Microsoft that says it works, but even if I set it as default it gives nothing. So the Intel HDMI Audio is Default.
I have it configured to 7.1 speaker set up.
In this Set up Power DVD and Media player work great. I can stream Blu-Ray and play anything at all in 7.1 or 5.1 what ever the source has to offer.
Now in Media Center I go to configure the audio set up and the first question it asks is what type of connector are you using for audio. RCA, SPDIF, Coax ETC but no HDMI.
Whatever I choose give me no audio in media center and the videos will lock up in about 1 minute.
So I start the set up and then cancel. Once you lose the audio it is gone for navigation within Media Center also. Restarting Media center gives you back your navigating audio.
Now if I go back to Audio Devices available and select Intel HDMI and change it to 2CH. I then get full audio and 5.1 from the mpeg movies through Media center. But now Blu-Rays only give 2CH no matter what, whether streamed or from the disc.
Ok, here is the funny thing.After playing with settings and drivers for awhile, I had the Intel HDMI set for 7.1 and then tried Power DVD both from disc and streaming Blu-Ray, worked perfectly, Tried Media Player with the Mpegs, worked perfectly, Opened Media Center then My Movies2 and loaded up a Blu-Ray stream, It worked perfectly. The I loaded up an mpeg movie in my movies and it played perfectly in 5.1. I then tried several mpegs and they all worked.
What I found is when you go into Media Center, If the first thing I play is a Blu-Ray stream it somehow tells media center how to hook up correctly to the HDMI Audio. Once I stop the Blu-Ray stream I can play any movie I have stored on the 6TB server with no problem through Media Center. Once I close Media Center it goes back to wanting 2CH. As long as I play A Blu-Ray first in Media center then everything will work like it is supposed to.
I'm still totally at a loss as to how to fix my media Center. It seems that whenever I watch a video in media center in full screen mode it works fine until the play/pause taskbar at the bottom of the screen auto minimizes then it gets extremely choppy and looks like its having some sort of seizure. Yet if I move the mouse on screen again to bring up the taskbar again it runs smoothly once more.
Alternatively when the screen is not maximised if I dont move the mouse at all it runs smoothly but the second I bring the mouse onto the mediacentre screen the same thing happens and the video goes all black until the taskbar auto hides. This problem occurs while watching a movie or live tv in media center, yet if i watch the exact same video footage in media player the problem does not occur. I've updated all drivers (taking extra care to make sure I have the newest graphics card drviers) and installed a shark codec set in the hopes that might offer some assistance.
I recently discovered the AOL Radio with XM Radio area in the "more music" section of Vista's Media Center. For a few days, I was able to successfully listen to the XM Radio component of the AOL Radio system. Then after a few days, when I attempted to play any of the XM channels, it would come up with an error that said "An unknown audio error has occured. C00D11BB".
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this strange problem with my media center. Whenever I try to use the 'burn Video DVD' in the media center, nothing really happens. When I select a recorded program to burn on DVD, the program starts. After a perhaps 1 hour or burning, my DVD writer opens with the new written DVD.
However, when I try to play this new dvd I notice that nothing is written on the DVD? I even takes vista a very long time to recognise the DVD.
I run Vista 64 on a AMD Athlon 64 (3200) on a MSI K8T Neo motherboard with 2 GB Ram. My DVD writer is a Samsung WriteMaster. I can be a lack of space, because I have 500GB free on my HD.
I've just installed Vista Home Premium SP1 and the DVD playback picture is all garbled in Media Center - lots of mainly green, pink and purple blocks with an occasional flicker of a proper image. The audio is fine and playback with PowerDVD is fine too (dont want to use this as I cant get 5.1ch sound without buying it), I have uninstalled PowerDVD but to no avail.

What I would like to do is make home movies (no editing) and drag and drop thes video files to Vista pc and then be able to watch the video on my media extenders. I am going to buy a new video camera, a hd model with a hard drive. My question is can I do this without converting the video to another format? Does anyone make a camcorder that records in a format that is supported by media center or does anyone make a plugin for media center that will allow AVCHD playback? Now i've been looking a lot into how to play AVI files through the media center, and it seems everyone uses the FFDShow program. So, after installing vista64, drivers, and all updates (except SP1), and configuring the media center I then installed:

I've had Vista Home Premium installed on my desktop PC for over a year now, but I never used Windows Media Center until recently and noticed this problem when I purchased a Media Center Extender. After choosing the folders (music, video and image) that I wanted in my WMC library (on BOTH my desktop PC AND Media Center Extender), only my image files do not appear in the libraries. Under "Picture Library" (again, on both units), all folders and sub-folders which I selected are shown but contain no "items". The files which I desire to view are .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, and .bmp formats and I have converted some back and forth between formats to see if that changed anything. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on this?

After selecting my folder it pops up on the bottom right that it is adding media, it says it is searching for files and it just keeps doing that. It has been running for a few hours now and is still going. SHould it take this long? I have about 15 cd's worth of media in the folder.

Now I need to:
1- know how configure him to open in the "Only Media Mode".
2- do something to block everything, but some games and 3 sites! gmail, yahoo and hattrick.com
To make it clear, i want to configure a user that may only use the media center, some games and access does 3 sites and nothing else!
Media center keeps popping up, I have not been able to find a way to disable it, so that I can use the program only when I want. It is very tiresome to keep have it. open when ever I pop a cd or dvd in to my drive. I would like some control over which program I use to view/listen to the media I have, and not have one pop up automatically.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the computer HDMI hooked to the receiver HDMI and the receiver HDMI output hooked to the LCD HDMI input. I see Vista DESKTOP on the TV but do not have sound. When I go into the Realtek HD Audio Manager I do not see an option to Choose Digital Output device HDMI. Bios does not have an HDMI choice. I tried driver updates did not work. I have another Media Center PC. which I connected the same way the HP is connected I do get Video and Sound.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I transfer video clips from my camera, video works in windows movie maker but there's no audio. The clips are avi and I have vista Home Premium. I installed k-lite codec pack and now have audio in media player but there is still no audio in movie maker. When this problem first arose I couldn't get sound from the clips on anything but quick time. By installing the k-lite pack it enabled sound in photosmart essential, wmp and media center but still not in photo gallery or wmm. I really like the features I see in wmm and would like to experiment.
When I import audio tracks from other places they play just fine in wmm just not the audio from my video clips. And these play fine elsewhere! Also my daughter has avi video clips from her camera that do play in wmm. I downloaded gspot and it says audio was rendered with mulaw - video mjpg. In solutions to make it work were: Src-A-Avi splitter -B - ffdshow video decoder - C - video renderer Src - A - Avi splitter-B-ffdshow Audio Decoder - C Default Direct Sound Device Mute is not checked. I would think it was a camera problem but the clips play fine elsewhere.
I have vista home premium 64 with media center. don't have any desire to hook up the computer to a tV or surround sound system, so is there really any reason to open up and install media center service? I burn cds, do some computer studio recording, sometimes plug a phonograph (remember those?) or a cassette into the computer to record. is there anything in media center that makes those experiences better? when i record off of vinyl i have to set the recording level down to practically zero to record or otherwise the signal is too hot using my usb turntable. it's really almost zero plus a tick or nothing at all. will media center do anything for this?

All media files play normally on other players. I have to state that sometimes I get the message: "The file.... The parameter is incorrect".
I was using Media Center to watch video that was recorded through media center. Everything was fine for a few months then a couple of months ago the sound went away in media center for those videos. The media center still plays music and DVD's fine it just does not play viedo recorded off of the capture card in my computer anymore.
I am able to play those same video's through window's media player however.
Is anyone familiar with this?
My hard drive crashed and I had to install a new one, reinstalled Windows Vista, but Media Centre is nowhere to be found.
Searched for %SystemRoot%ehomeehshell.exe as barman58 suggested.
However, the following error message pops up "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. Contact your system administrator."
Media center is freezing up when I try to scroll search through the movies or music videos. It says it needs to update something at the beginning, but when I click the OK button the little circle just sits and spins and never does anything.
